Photos tweaked but what size do I save them?

I have been using PE7 for a few weeks now and am very pleased but realising that I can't keep on saving pictures at full size every time.  So what should I do when re-sizing to keep at a sensible file size but retaining a lot of the goodness.
Is is the maximum number of pixels across one side, is it the resolution pixels per inch, or saving with a lower quality setting when saving as a jpg. I use a small programme called jpegresizer6 which gives me the option of batch processing but I really could do with some help on how?
Thanks.

Really? Why not?

Most people I know keep the photo at full size, and save at something less than full quality (for example, quality 8 or 9).
Batch resizing is something I would not recommend. I consider it to be an atrocious practice, because you are taking your original photo (or an edited version) and deliberately removing detail and resolution from the photo.

  • What size should i save my pictures to make a good high def. DVD?

Ok, I am using Elements 10 with Premere 10 to create a DVD high definition movie of our trip to Rome to display on our hi def tv. What I want to know is what size should I save my pictures after fixing them. The JPEGS are usually saved to around 2 mb while the NEF's are saved around 6-11 mb's.  I am afraid that the 2 mb files will not retain enough data to show well on the high def TV and maybe the 11 mb pictures may be overkill resulting in long rendering times and larger movie sizes. Anyone have any information on this. Both the Elements 10 and Premere 10 manuals don't address this. The only thing I could find was that they support up to 4086 x 4086 size pictures. Thanks in advance

    Hi,
I am not an expert on this subject but since nobody has replied yet, I thought I would give you my current thoughts on the subject so then someone can either confirm it or shoot me down in flames.
If we are talking about a HD TV, they have a screen resolution of about 1920 x 1080 or 1360 x 768 so if your images are greater than that, something has to do some down sizing.
I think that a normal DVD can has a limitation on size of 720 x 480 (NTSC) or 720 x 576 (PAL). To get a greater resolution than that you need to talk about Blu-ray.
The important thing to think about is the aspect ratio. The widescreen TVs are 16:9 and your photos are probably 4:3. If you want a full screen picture without black margins each side then I suggest that you do some cropping first.
I tend to crop to 16:9 aspect ratio (using crop tool) and then resize the image to 1920 x 1080 (using image resize). I use a larger size if I know I want to use pan & zoom effects. I use that size, even though some pixels will be lost, just in case I switch to Blu-ray in the future and it might save a bit of work then.
Hope that helps (and is correct)

That's corrected, they save to your camera roll.

  • I want to open file attachments, but Firefox forces me to save them to a file

Firefox forces me to save email attachments that I get, rather than just opening them up. I found the tools menu item that allows me to decide where to save them but it does not seem to give me the option to just open them.

This is a ridiculously complex solution to something that the Mozilla Foxfire browser used to do automatically. I do not understand why the handling of attachments has to be made this complicated. Previously, I could click download, the download window dialog box would open and I could choose to open, save, delete the file regardless of what type file it is. Now, for no good reason, I click to download, the same window comes up, indicates the file downloads then the file disappears from that window and I have to go to a designated file where it has been saved to open it. Then, I have to remember to delete it from that file if it's not something (most things are not) something I want to keep!
I've changed the options as provided in the settings for downloads several times but the result is always the same. Why did this change occur? It's enough to make me seriously consider dumping Firefox completely.

  • I have an older version of imovie.  After I change the photos using the Ken Burns effect and save them, the next time I open the file and click 'show photo settings' to change the zoom, the picture appears black and I can't change the zoom?

I have a five year old version of imovie that generally works fine.  However, when I add a photo using the 'Ken Burns' effect then save the movie, the next time I open the file and click 'show photo settings' the picture appears black and I cannot change the zoom.  Any suggestions?

Have you rendered both iOS 7 and iOS 8 (both of which will work on your iPhone 5) out of the question entirely without trying every possible configuration? The animations can be disabled entirely, if that's the problem. And if the whiter-brighter user interface is the problem, there's reverse-contrast modes that darken everything. You can expose accessibility controls to gain immediate access to these functions to toggle them on and off. I guess my point is you may have decided against upgrading the OS based on an early experience with iOS 7 when Apple has since made changes in later revisions to address some of the usability complaints.
Now, Apple's instructions for downloading older versions of apps is to do so from the Purchased list, not from the app's product page.
    See here:
Install the latest compatible version of an app on an earlier version of iOS or OS X - Apple Support

  • Photos looking out of focus after I save them.

My photos look great after my layers and saving, but when I try to upload them online, email, or print they don't look the same.Kind of out of focus/blurry.  I've tried for hours and can't seem to figure out why this is happening. Please, if you know, help is needed!!

I just realized they are also not as clear looking
Is the profile embedded and do the programs you use to display the uploaded images use color management?
As for the blurriness: That sounds like some (automatic) resampling may have taken place.

  • Reclaimed photo thumbs but what do I do next?

Lost some sideshows but was able to retreive all but one. The one not found, I found by Spotlight, but when clicked it appeared in iCal---nothing I can do with it there!
Tried searching on Thumbs.  "VBA picks up computer" came up and this msg was also put on iCal!
Found photos in Thumbs which included the photos I was looking for. Now I have a desktop screen filled with these thumb photos. My objective was to get them back into iPhoto album and create a new slideshow...but have absolutely no idea how to save each photo to iPhoto.
Any and all help would be appreciated for me to get my great-granddaughter's birthday party back into iPhoto before I die.
    Thanks

No reply yet. Perhaps I was not clear, but not skilled in iPhoto with no manual--yet!
No longer have original photos downloaded from digital camera. But see in "caches"> HP Photo Library>Thumbs folder with the thumbs of all the photos I am looking for. So opened all these thumbs onto my desktop, but they are very fuzzy (pixel problem?). One photo came up on desktop with long photo number followed with "mb.jpg 200x150".
My question is: Is there any way I can use these thumbs to make into a new slide show? Understand, I am a novice and do not have the "missing" iPhoto 09 manual--yet! It's been ordered.

  • Ver 3.6.3 won't save passwords, but box is checked to save them

  • How can I transfer a video between iPads? I can see the video in a photo stream but it won't save to the new iPad.

I shot a video with the camera on an iPad and want to transfer a copy to a new iPad Mini to take advantage of the retina display.  I can see it in a photo stream, but it won't let save it to the new iPad.  The old iPad didn't have enough memory to work on an iMovie, so I need to get the video in the new iPad mini to put it in an iMovie project.

Okay, I figured out that Windows has "AutoPlay" settings which can automatically download photos and videos from a newly connected device, such as an iPad Mini.  I think I could open it in Windows Explorer too that way but the auto download solved my problem.

  • What size file is needed to print A1 size posters?

I want to create a poster that can be printed in A1 size. I know I need to use a good size digital photo to print this big but what size file do I create in Photoshop Elements 8 so that I can have someone print the image? Or do I need to use a different program to create the poster itself? Thanks.

    Hi,
You can create a file of dimensions: 23/33 inches. This is the approx size of a A1 paper. You can very well create it in PSE.
    Cheers.

  • Recovery Media for Tecra R840 - What size USB or DVD?

What size USB (or DVD media) is needed to create the basic recovery media?  I saw the post for the user who also had MS Office 2010, but what size USB (or DVDs) would be needed to create the basic recovery media (ie, without the Office suite) - a search of the manual failed to provide the answer?
    Thanks - FB

I believe the Recovery Media Creator should specify if you continue to go through it.

  • Why are photos showing on my iPad and iPhone photo streams but not my mac's photo stream

I've taken a load of photos on my phone and have placed them in an album within my photo stream, they are now showing up on my iPad but not on my mac which is where i really want them. I've tried turning the wifi on and off again, I've tried turn the devices off and on again. nothing is working! all i want is my work backed up! can anyone help me please?!

    Hello BeccaBatte,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
Please follow the troubleshooting steps in the article below to help resolve this issue with Photo Stream.
I don't see any photos in the My Photo Stream view of iPhoto or Aperture.
Make sure your Mac has an active Wi-Fi or Ethernet connection. If you can't connect to the Internet, updates to My Photo Stream won't appear in iPhoto or Aperture. You can use these steps to troubleshoot your Internet connection on your Mac.
From your Mac, choose System Preferences > iCloud.
Make sure that the Photo Stream checkbox is selected and you're signed in to the same iCloud account that you're using on your other supported devices.
Open iPhoto or Aperture, then choose Preferences > iCloud (or Photo Stream).
If you're using iPhoto 9.4 or later or Aperture 3.4 or later, make sure that My Photo Stream is selected. If you want all new photos that you upload to your iPhoto or Aperture library to upload to My Photo Stream, select Automatic Upload.
If you're using iPhoto 9.2.2 through 9.3.2, or Aperture 3.2.3 through 3.3.2, select Enable Photo Stream and Automatic Import.
I see different photos in My Photo Stream on each of my devices.
Your device will keep up to 1000 photos, even if they're older than 30 days. Photos older than 30 days are removed from the iCloud server, so your devices might not have the same photos, depending on when you enabled My Photo Stream. Due to storage limitations, your Apple TV might display only your most recent photos. If you want to have the most current photos in My Photo Stream on each of your devices and delete the older photos:
If there are any photos in My Photo Stream that you want to keep, save them to your Camera Roll, then back up your Camera Roll and other data using iCloud or iTunes.
Turn My Photo Stream off in Settings > iCloud > Photos (or Photo Stream in iOS 6).
Confirm that you wish to Delete Photos.
Turn My Photo Stream back on. iCloud will automatically push your stored photos to your device.
Repeat these steps for each device.

  • HT4890 I have transferred 127 photo's set in chronological order from my PC to my iPad using Photo Stream but they appear all jumbled up. How do I prevent this happening?

How do I rearrange the photo's in an album on my iPad?

Photo stream is just a sync service and you have no control over the ordering of photos.  But, what you should be doing is moving the photos out of photo stream into a different, permanent album where you can order as you wish.  Remember, if you ever turn off photo stream for whatever reason, the photos in that special album will be deleted.  When you later turn the service back on, you'll only get those photos still in the stream server, which are limited to a max of 1000 and no older then 30 days.

This is a Mac question not a Photoshop question, and I am a Windows users, but I can Google and this might be what you need to do:

It's says that file does not exist. How come? And why does it still show the image info.?
Where can i find those files (i have a daily backup)
The original image files are missing form your iPhoto library or iPhoto cannot find them, because the link to the originals has been broken. The image info is stored in the internal libraries, independent of the original files. That is, why you are still seeing them.
I restored the whole library from my backup.
Try restoring from an older backup, from before you first noticed the problem.
How large is the library, that you restored? Is the file size large enough to hold all your photos, or has the size been reduced?  If the library is still large, the photos may still be inside, even if iPhoto cannot find them.
It's says that file does not exist. How come?
What happened, before your iPhoto library got deleted? Which applications have you been running, or which new software have installed or upgraded?  Have you moved the library to a different disk or tried to use it from different user account or access it over the network?
