Photos uploaded by iPhoto not visible to Finder

I took a bunch of photos at a friend's party on new year's eve. I had my powerbook with me because I only had two 256 SD cards for my HP camera. Each time I filled up a card I'd go upload into iPhoto with a Jumpdrive Trio card reader. Because the photos were taken within the same few hours and I just kept swapping out cards, etc., I have several pics that ended up with the same filenames. iPhoto has no problem with this, however Finder is unable to see all of the files. In each case of two files sharing a name, Finder can only see one. This causes a bit of a problem as I'd like to upload some of the photos to a website, but since the Finder can't see them, I can't navigate to them with the upload applet. Obviously, since I can't navigate to these pics in Finder, I can't rename them either. What can I do?

Glad you posted back. The problem as described would have had a lot of people scratching their heads.

  • Photo upload to iphoto failing

I have always been able to upload my pictures to iphoto until my last attempt. I watched the photos upload, but at the end of the run the message read, "iphoto has quit unexpectantly". Even though I watched them upload on the screen when I opened iphoto the pictures were not there?!?!! HELP!!!!

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
It would help if you can verify the version of iPhoto that you are using, because different versions use a different library structure. If you aren't sure, Quit iPhoto. In the Finder, locate iPhoto in your Applications folder. Click +only once+ to select it, then do File > Get Info. In the window that opens, you should see the version number near the top.
You can also find out which version of Tiger you are running. Click on the Apple menu at the top left corner of your screen, select "About this Mac" and a window opens with the Mac OS number.
When you launch iPhoto, is there a new Album listed in the left column that says "Recovered Photos"?
If not, you can check the iPhoto Library folder for those photos. Quit iPhoto. In the Finder, navigate to your Pictures folder, then the iPhoto Library folder inside it. Look just inside the iPhoto Library folder. If there is a folder called "Import" or "Importing" you can drag it out to your Desktop. *Make no other changes* inside the library folder, or you could damage your iPhoto Library. Check inside the Import folder and see if your new photos are there. If they are, launch iPhoto and import the photos.
    Regards.

  • Photos uploaded from iPhoto '11 to facebook keep removing themselves at random.

    Hi Guys and Girls,
My Photos uploaded from iPhoto '11 to facebook keep removing themselves at random. Who else is having this annoying issue?
    Cheers,
    Keegan

Do not use the iPhoto - Facebook link - as advertised changes on either side are automatically synced to the other - that is the way it works
If you do not want the features that iPhoto offers then upload directly form a web browser or other method

  • Yosemite: Thumbnails not visible in Finder

I ran into a strange problem immediately after updating to Yosemite.
    I have a 2014 mbp dual-video, 16 gb ram.
In any folder on my drive icons are not visible. They are there, I can drag and copy-paste folders and files, but the finder only shows a blank white window. Everything looks normal in List, Columns or Cover Flow modes.
I did a safe mode boot and restarted normally and everything went back to normal, including visible icons. But now I have the problem with an external ExFat drive. Anyone know how to solve this or what's going on?

Here's my problem, that continues with newly created folders. You can see that this folder has 5 items in it, with one selected. But they are not visible when Finder is set to icon mode.
Also, when I drag a corner of the Finder window to make it bigger, i get some "dragging" visual artifacts that are not visible in the screenshots but appear on my screen.

  • Applications not visible in finder

I loaded Mountian Lion on to my Macbook Pro and now my applications subfolder is not visible in Finder?  I can't seem to find it anywhere?  Any ideas where it went to?
    Thanks!

Your Applications folder should be in Macintosh HD/Applications.
Not sure what you mean by a sub-folder?
Can you launch your apps from the Dock?

  • Photos in Drop Zones not visible

    Hi,
I recently purchased a refurbished iMac and have used iDVD previously, but am having trouble with it now. It's my first attempt at iDVD since I bought the computer. I'm using a 6.0 theme, Reflection Black. When I drop photos into one of the eight drop zones, the zones go black. I can see in the drop zone editor area that the photo is loaded, just not visible. The twist is that the first time I use the photo it works. But if I try to drop it in the second time, or close the saved draft and then reopen, I get a black image where the photo should be. I've searched on the help topics, and can't figure it out.
    Thank you!

You're right. There's not alot of info available on this particular issue regarding invisible slideshow photos. So let's try the following.
You say the photos are showing in the drop zone editor nevertheless ..... correct?
What happens when you add a transition (simple 3 second dissolve for example)?
If that fails to help then add music as well and then set the slideshow to "fit to audio". Post back with your results.

  • Viewing photos uploaded to iPhoto

I have uploaded photos to an  iPhoto event today.  They cannot be seen by Pixelmator or by WordPress.  They are definitely in my iLibrary, and on my harddrive.  Neither softwares can see the event, although it is visible in the recent list, but no photos are visible.  I can not access these photos.

Pixelmator should be set as an external editor:
You can set Photoshop (or any image editor) as an external editor in iPhoto. (Preferences -> General -> Edit Photo: Choose from the Drop Down Menu.) This way, when you double click a pic to edit in iPhoto it will open automatically in Photoshop or your Image Editor, and when you save it it's sent back to iPhoto automatically. This is the only way that edits made in another application will be displayed in iPhoto.
Wordpress is a website system: The first of these is what you want:
There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:   You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Command-Click for selecting multiple pics.
(Note the above illustration is not a Finder Window. It's the dialogue you get when you go File -> Open)
You can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
There's a similar option in Outlook and many, many other apps.  If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
If you want to access the files with iPhoto not running:
For users of 10.6 and later:  You can download a free Services component from MacOSXAutomation  which will give you access to the iPhoto Library from your Services Menu.
Using the Services Preference Pane you can even create a keyboard shortcut for it.
For Users of 10.4 and 10.5 Create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use this free utility Karelia iMedia Browser
    Other options include:
Drag and Drop: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
File -> Export: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
Show File:  a. On iPhoto 09 and earlier:  Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.    3.b.
b: On iPhoto 11 and later: Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Reveal in Finder -> Original. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.

  • Camera not visible in Finder

Just installed 10.5.1 and iPhoto update.
When I connect my camera to my iMac, iPhoto opens....but the camera is not visible in the Finder !
Any suggestions ? Or is this a new bug?
    Best regards,
    Roeland

You are asking about iPhoto on your Mac, right? And not about iPhoto on your IOS device? This is the iPhoto on IOS forum. I have asked the community hosts to relocate your post to the iLife iPhoto forum - you will get more help there.
What is your iPhoto version? Assuming you are having iPhoto '11, you'd should see the photos in the iPhoto Library package using the Finder, if they are there; but dont move them, only browse them, if you can  find them.
Reveal your iPhoto Library and in the Finder; it is probably in your "Pictures" folder, ctrl-click it, select "Reveal Package Contents". In the Finder window that will pop up, select the "Masters" folder. This scores the original images, organized by the date of the "Import Session" o f the event.
If your images are still there, I'd copy - not move! - them to a folder on your Desktop and then try to rebuild the iPhoto library. Make a backup of the iPhoto library, then hold down the key combionation option-command and select "rebuild database" from the dialog that pops up.

  • Help: can't access certain photo files from iPhoto without going via Finder

I have posted a number of files containing jpg photos and whilst I can see them in Finder they are not visible in iPhoto or indeed any other applications making it impossible to import photos into other applications (such as iWeb). I can of course do it manually (copy and paste) but cannot integrate photos as part of web page. Any ideas?

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
What do you see when you open try to open the files in iPhoto?
    Do you see a !
    IF so:
Try these in order - from best option on down...
    1. Do you have an up-to-date back up? If so, try copy the library6.iphoto file from the back up to the iPhoto Library allowing it to overwrite the damaged file.
    2. Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
    3. If neither of these work then you'll need to create and populate a new library.
To create and populate a new *iPhoto 6* library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same Rolls and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Roll Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.

  • External hard drive not visible in Finder or Disk Utility

    Hi everyone,
My Wester Digital 2TB external hard drive has disappeared, so to speak, with all my photos. I work as a freelance photographer. Mostly on Lightroom 5.6
When I plug it in, with firewire, I can feel the disk rotating normally however it does not appear in finder or disk utility.
I've tried using a USB cable, restarting my mac, forced restart, changing firewire ports (HD has 2 ports), plugging the HD into a different laptop and nothing.
Ive also searched Finder prefrences and visibility is enabled.
I have no idea what could have caused this as I was using the HD the night before. I didnt pullout without properly ejecting. Maybe the HD is full or almost, but I dont think that would the cause of these troubles.
    I'm using a late 2011 Macbook Pro OS X 10.9.4
    Any suggestions??
    Thanx

An update for anyone who can help me:
I have tried the external hard drive in other computers (mac and windows), each time I get the same problem above.
I have removed the HD from the enclosure and purchased a docking station for it (3.5" SATA). When I plug it in to the laptop it disconnects itself straight away before it is visible. With the windows computers it installs the drivers and says that the device is ready to use, then disconnects before it shows up.
As the HD is not visible there is no option to re-format or anything.
This is very frustrating as I was using the HD with no issues and it randomly disconnected and I have not been able to access since.
Thanks in advance for any help.

  • Calender feature in Journals picks up the day photo uploaded to ipad, not when it was taken.

So, I was playing around with iPhoto on my iPad, I made a photo journal,  and I put a calender beside a photo, but suprisinly, the calender showed the date the photo was UPLOADED onto my ipad, not when it was taken, which was around october in 2011.
So, did this happen to you? if it did, please comment and say it did, knowing that it's something wrong with iPhoto, not my device.
and for an answer, I'd be happy with apple's email for iPhoto, or a link taking me to a thread that talks about the problem.
    Thanks!

oh my god I am so dumb, I checked the picture closest to the calender which was taken in august, but the calender took the other pics, which was JPEG format, that's weird, wonder when it got turned into JPEG, oh well, IGNORE THIS QUESTION, can't belive I'm so dumb....

  • Internal Hard Drive is not visible in Finder or Desktop or anywhere

The problem first and then the details.
I cannot see my systems hard drive, No icon shows up on the desktop, and it is not visible in the Finder.
It does however show up in Disk Utility.
I have repaired permissions and repaired the disk, both from within the OS and also from the install disc during a reboot.
Not here are some details. This is both a fresh install of the OS AND a brand new drive. I just had it installed today and then reinstalled the OS.
While going thru the process of reinstalling all my software, something froze for no good reason, and I eventually had to force quit the finder and when the system wouldn't shut down, I had to physically power it off.
Upon rebooting, my systems HD is no longer visible.
I suppose I can try and reinstall again, but I feel like there has to be a smarter way to deal with this.
    Any suggestions?

Have you confirmed that in Finder > Finder menu > Preferences > General and Sidebar tabs that the boxes to show hard disks are checked?
Assuming they are checked, you may a victim of the 'invisible drive' problem. See Francine's helpful tutorial for the fix:

  • External hard drive not visible in Finder, but is operating

iMac, 2 Gb RAM, Snow Leopard 10.6.4.
It has 4 external USB drives attached through a powered hub. All of a sudden, after about a year, one of them no longer shows up in ‘Finder’. However, all four drives have an icon on the desktop. The drive is visible and verifiable in ‘Disk Utility’. Double clicking the desktop icon opens the drive and I can copy a file from it. iTunes can see it. From a Macbook’s ‘Finder’, over WiFi, I can see and copy files to and from the drive. Finder Preferences shows nothing amiss. I’ve shut down and restarted the iMac several times with no change. The drive just does not show up in Finder on the host iMac.
Searching this forum has not helped. Any suggestions?
    Max

Well, this is embarrassing. A suggestion from an older thread on Macrumors.com called "Hard Drive does not appear in Finder / Desktop", solved this problem. Simply drag the missing drive icon from the desktop to Finder! Perseverance and different search wording AND reading a lot of stuff pays off.
If other's problem is not solved with this fix, you might benefit from this 10.5-based thread. They also mention an Apple 10.5 fix. Both URL's below.
The op's problem was that the drive did not appear in Finder OR the desktop but was operational. There was a lot of in-depth information with this fix embedded.
Thanks for the interest and suggestions.
