Photos vanishing from my E71-2 (US)

My photos are disappearing from my E71-2. The entire gallery has vanished.
Does anyone think there’s a way to save those photos somehow – that they might be lost in some hidden directory? I’d like to see if I can do that before I give up and reformat the phone.
FWIW, the gallery disappeared after I linked the phone to Ovi Suite and saved all the photos. But I left on vacation right afterwards and I’d like to retrieve the shots I took on vacation if at all possible.
More background:
The entire phone has been glitchy for the last 2 weeks or so – it went through a period of arbitrarily shutting itself off for a while, which seemed to end when I removed the Nokia e-mail program, which appeared to be part of the shutdown loop. (I was not using it.)
Since the initial vanishing, I’ve experimented by taking other photos. If I try and open the newly taken photo by accessing the gallery directly, it does not appear. But if I use the file manager, I can find it. But even then, it will disappear after a couple days.
Also FWIW, the recently re-downloaded Nokia Maps and nav functions appear to be completely f@#*ed up.

The memory card might be corrupted. Remove the card ( powerbutton-> remove card) and check with an external reader. If the card is corrupted, reformat the card in the E71-2. This could also solve your Maps issue.
‡Thank you for hitting the Blue/Green Star button‡

Why my Flagged photos vanished from photo library?

There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on 9 different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary depending on the version of iPhoto and the version of the OS. So to get help you need to give as much information as you can. Include things like:
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For example, if you have a problem with exporting, then explain by describing how you are trying to export, and so on.
    - History: Is this going on long? Has anything been installed or deleted? - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
    - Anything unusual about your set up? Or how you use iPhoto?
Anything else you can think of that might help someone understand the problem you have.

  • My photos vanished from iPhoto. How do I get them back?

I was transferring a few new photos from my iPhone into iPhoto, and suddenly the photos already on iPhoto just vanished while I was transferring them into albums. Not all of them went, just a lot of my older ones. The photos that are still there are all filed under 'August 2011 Photostream' or whatever, instead of the albums I put them in. All the photos are still on my phone, so is there a way of transferring everything from my phone to my MacBook? I have a Time Machine backup that I could use, but I haven't backed up for ages so I'd rather not restore from that unless I absolutely have to.

Albums do not store photos; they just group and organize photos contained in your events. Have you ever imported the missing photos into iPhoto events?
The photos that are still there are all filed under 'August 2011 Photostream' or whatever, instead of the albums I put them in.
The monthly events "'August 2011 Photostream'" etc. are created automatically, when you have Photo Stream enabled. Then iPhoto will automatically download all photos from your PhotoStream and save them in events on your Mac.
If you deleted photos from events, after adding them to albums, you have deleted them completely from your iPhoto library. Never delete a photo from an event, that you want to keep and to use in an album. The version in the album is no duplicate. It is just a reference to the photo in the event.  You can have add a photo to many different albums without needing extra space.

  • Set of iPhone photos vanishing from iPhoto

I'm having a problem importing a particular set of photos from my iPhone to iPhoto. The import seems to go fine, I transfer and even edit the photos, put them in a sub folder. But a few minutes later, I discover they have disappeared. The "last import" folder and my subfolder are blank, and there is no trace of them on the "Event" screen. I have repeated this process five or six times and the same thing happens every time. However, the photos stayed long enough for me to upload one to Facebook and put copies in the "Pictures" folder on my Mac, all of which I still have. But why don't they stay in iPhoto? The rest of the library seems unaffected, and I have never had this problem before.

    Judith
    As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import these pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

  • Help! Photos vanishing from library....

I began to comb through my iPhoto library to compile a best of 2005 slideshow, and noticed that random groups of photos are gone. I've checked the trash (which has never been emptied), I've gone and looked through the entire library, and I've navigated through finder to the iPhoto library folder within the home directory to see if there are any trace of them there. Nothing. This, of course, is very irritating. It seems to be entire imports that are gone. I have about 10,000 images in the library...and have been backing it up by copying the library folder to an external drive. Unfortunately my last backup reflects what I am seeing on my library as well.
I'm assuming there is no magic fix (but if there is, please let me know). I was hoping someone might know why this has happened and how to prevent it from occuring in the future. I know that I've had to force quit iPhoto at times...but photos I'm missing had been well after a force quit occurred.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks, Alan

I just discovered a similer problem. I'm running a g4 powerbook with the lateset version of tiger and iphoto. I just opened my iphoto and discovered that a huge amount of my photos have disapeared from my library. They are still on my hard drive but don't show up in iphoto. All of my albums are still there but they all show up as empty.
Right before this happened all I did was open the program.
    Please help.

  • Over 2500 photos vanished just from iPhoto - panic and tears HELP

Today I tried downloading 392 photos from a 4GB SanDisk to iPhoto using its own card reader (photos taken on a Lumix LX2). This is the first time I have tried doing this. The import was very very slow and in the end the process led to quitting, restarting, force quitting etc. Having failed to import I now find on restarting the PowerBook G4 that out of 3000 or so treasured photos only 551 are left. The rest have simply vanished from iPhoto. This is beyond tragic. Are they gone for good? How could this happen? I'll be grateful for any help, advice and tips. Many thanks

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. First, your image files are safe but the library has been damaged. Run the three fixes below in order as needed:
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library. Select all options.
2 - rebuild the library using iPhoto Library Manager as follows:
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 -Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 -Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your User/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File->Rebuild Library menu option
4 - In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: It may take some time to create the new library if you have a lot of photos.
3 - start over with a new library and import the Originals folder from your original library as follows:
Creating a new library while preserving the Events from the original library.
Move the existing library folder to the desktop.
Open the library package like this.
Launch iPhoto and, when asked, select the option to create a new library.
Drag the Originals folder from the iPhoto Library on the desktop into the open Photo window
This will create a new library with the same Events as the original library if you have the Finder checkbox unchecked in the Events preference pane.
In the future I suggest you upload to a folder on the desktop first to get the photos onto the HD. Then you can import from the folder into iPhoto. This will also give you the opportunity to name the folder so that the event that is created during import will have the name you give the folder. Also, if so desired you can batch, sequentially rename the files for better identification. I use R-Name to add the date taken plus a brief description like this: 2008-08-02-Dinner at Dereks-001.jpg. This will avoid problems later on if you try to export multiple photos to the same folder, particularly if your camera starts over renaming the files with 001.jpg each time.
The tip at the end of my signature below has a tip that could help make the recovery from the type of library damage you just encountered easier and quicker.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There's now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • Saved Digital ID to desktop, all desktop files and folders immediately vanished from computer

I was signing a document in Abobe Reader, and instructed to create a new digital ID in order to do so.
when I did this, I chose to save the digital ID to the desktop, replacing whatever its original destination to be saved to was.
when I hit finish, every single file and folder on my desktop vanished from my laptop (Macbook air running OSX Yosemite) completely. I have searched everyone and gone through a live chat with an Apple specialist who has had access to my screen and cannot find anything. All files and folders, music and photos that were not on my desktop are still here. I have tried re-starting.
Does anyone have any idea what has happened and how to fix it? I am a graduate student and part of my dissertation was on my desktop. I am an idiot for not having backed it up properly, and will be buying an external hard drive and using Time Machine immediately.

    Hello Elizabeth,
Thank you for contacting Adobe via this forum and other correspondence.
I see that Adobe Support has contacted you directly and is working with you on this issue.

  • Just updated WD Drive Utilities - now all my WD external disks have vanished from desktop

I have just been using one of my 4TB My Book external disks on a MacBook AIR running 10.10.4All well and good. Only 1 installed at a time using the USB port. But the system told me there is a WD update so I installed it. Immediately after installing WD Drive Utilities and trying it out the WD disk on the desktop greyed out, then vanished completely. I pulled out the USB cable and put it back into the MacBook. The desktop icon for the WD drive reappeared, but greyed out, then vanished. So I thought it must be the new update so I uninstalled it using the WD Uninstall program. Same problem. I have an older (2014) WD Drive Utilities install-software on a MyPassport drive so I plugged in the USB for that drive, same problem, that is also greyed out and then vanishes from the desktop. So I tried the My Book again, using Disk Utilities in the MacBook. It sees the drive at first, but then it vanishes within 5 seconds. Disk Utilities says "Error: A disk with a mount point is required". I am very loathe to plug in my other 2 MyBook 3TB drives in case these also vanish or become unuseable for this same reason. I have a huge amount of data backed up on all of these disks. I think the disks are okay and maybe if I can get hold of older WD software from 2014 then I can backtrack and put it back the way it was. As a first step does anyone know where I can get hold of older WD software such as Drive Utilities (I think that was the one which did it). Or is there some files it has installed on the MacBook hidden away somewhere which I can delete?

July 2015 Solution for Multiple Problems with a New ‘My Passport for Mac’ (Note: I am posting this same message in response to several topics in this Forum, since the symptoms sounded similar to mine and I suspect WD software is causing them.) Like many other Users here, I recently bought a new external WD drive. The irony here is that I already own 3 other WD external drives, and they have been running fine for several years on our two Mac computers for photo and backup uses. Not so with this new drive. Following the WD installation steps, I first installed their software WD Drive Utilities and WD Security. And then my confusion started, because I now got the message ‘Error in RAID configuration’, even though I don’t use RAID and had done nothing except plug in the new drive. I ran the WD Drive Utility, Status Check, and my laptop actually crashed! I also saw the new drive mount at first, then spontaneously dismount after a minute or so. I even dismounted the new disk, mounted one of my older disks I have used for several years, and now it reported ‘Error in RAID configuration’, something it had never done before, and when I ran the WD Drive Utility, Status Check, on my older Passport drive my laptop again crashed. Like others here, I wasted a lot of time trying to resolve this, but let me skip all that and get right to what I did to get this new disk (and my old ones) to work correctly again. Solution which worked for me: I uninstalled the WD Drive Utilities software (the entire folder) completely. So far I have not uninstalled the WD Security software, although I have not dared to use it yet and likely never will. To uninstall WD Drive utilities, I used the free app AppCleaner from freemacsoft.net (NOT the app in the Mac App store similarly named App Cleaner; it may work just as well, but I have never used it.) Now that the WD Drive Utility is off my computer, I can use the new WD Passport and all my older Passport drives. I have run Apple’s Disk Utility, Verify, numerous times on the new drive, and using Carbon Copy Cloner I have cloned up to 340 GB to the new Passport drive, followed by Verifying it, without errors or any of the symptoms listed above. WD versions for me were:  WD Drive Utilities 2.0.2.18, which folder contained WDDriveUtilityHelper 1.0.0.16. I hope this helps others on this Forum.

  • Import photo's from camera has destroyed iPhoto library

I upgraded to iPhoto '08 a couple of days ago, and everything worked fine. But, after importing a few photo's from a Nikon point and shoot just now, it appears that I've lost all the other photo's in the library. The photo's that I just imported are now the only ones in the library. Thousands of images have just vanished.
I've checked in the iPhoto Library package and it looks ilke the files are still on disk. I've also tried rebuilding the library and fixing permissions. No luck.
I don't have a recent backup of the iPhoto Library, and I'm not willing to lose several months worth of photo's to go back to an old backup. So what are my options?
I've copied the iPhoto Library to another location and I can create a new library and import everything from the old Originals folder, but what happens to all of the edits I made to these photo's. As far as I can tell they're stored in the Modified folder. Does this mean that I either have to import Orignials and lose the edits, or import the Modified folder and lose the ability to go back to the originals?
This really *****. You would think something as simple as this would have been caught in QA. How did this software ever get to market with a bug like this in it? I'll be able to get my photo's back, although not without a considerable amount of hassle, but what about the thousands of folks out there with their family albums in iPhoto who are about to lose everything as soon as they connect a camera to their Mac. I doubt they'll be thinkging very highly of Apple, that's for sure.

I just did a bit of investigating and things are getting very weird.
iPhoto '08 didn't crash when I did the import, howere I did notice something odd. I store my photographs on an external hard drive and alias to the iPhoto Library from the Pictures folder. After I imported the recent photo's I noticed that my external hard drive was mounted twice in the finder. I unmounted it thinking that it was just an anomoly.
The external drive is called Galaxy1TB. To check to see whether there were multiple libraries on my Mac I did a search in Spotlight for "iPhoto Library." Two showed up, the backup I just made and one located in /Volumes/Galaxy1TB 1/Pictures. Note the fact that it's called "Galaxy1TB 1" and not "Galaxy1TB" even though it shows up in Finder as Galaxy1TB.
Using Terminal I did a cd of /Volumes and it contains Galaxy1TB and Galaxy1TB 1. Galaxy1TB 1 is the volume that is visible through Finder, and it has the iPhoto Library containing all of my old photo's. But, I checked this library, by looking through the package in Finder, and it does not contain the most recent photo import I did from the Nikon point and shoot camera. When I cd into /Volumes/Galaxy1TB there is a single directory called Pictures and it contains another directory called iPhoto Library. Navigating through the various directories in this version of the iPhoto Library I came across the recent Nikon imports.
It seems to me that, when I did the import from the Nikon, iPhoto, which was not started at the time, mounted a new Volume called Galaxy1TB (somehow the existing Volume was renamed Galaxy1TB 1) and it created a new iPhoto Library on the volume and imported the images into it. Now, when I start iPhoto, it is using this doppelganger iPhoto Library rather than the original one.
I suspect that if I restart the Mac, Galaxy1TB will revert to its original state and iPhoto will pick up the correct library. But I don't know what will happen to the library on the currently mounted Galaxy1TB. If it vanishes I will lose the photo's I just imported. I guess there is a possibility that the doppelganger Galaxy1TB will be mounted and I'll lose everything on my external hard drive! I wonder whether it's safe to rm /Volumes/Galaxy11TB through Terminal before restarting the Mac?
Anyway, any thoughts would be appreciated. This thing has got me very confused. I'm going to export the photo's I recently imported, so that I'll have copies when (if?) the library goes away after a restart. But if anyone can give me some assurance that I'm not going to lose the contents of my external drive after I restart, I'd appreciate it.

  • Using Nokia Photos... E71... Not Synchronising SMS...

    Good Evening All!
I've recently upgraded my N95 to an E71, and made the change from LifeBlog to Nokia Photos - as the E71 doesn't support LifeBlog...
After several attempts of letting Nokia Photos convert the LifeBlog database (of over 64,000 itmes), I gave up and decided to start it from scratch.
I've got Nokia Photos synching photos from my E71, but not SMSs, MMSs or Sound Clips - which is the main reason I'm using it...
If anyone can suggest where I may be going wrong, I'd be extremely grateful...
    Other information:
It's not a connection issue, as the phone is connected and Nokia Photos recognises it.
I've got the latest version of Nokia Photos, and tried reinstalling it.
The firmware version on the E71 is: 100.07.76
There is no profile set in the Sync folder on the phone as there as for LifeBlog on the N95, not sure whether that makes any difference.
    Nokia History: 3110, 5110, 7110, 7110, 3510i, 6210, 6310i, 5210, 6100, 6610, 7250, 7250i, 6650, 6230, 6230i, 6260, N70, N70, 5300, N95, N95, E71, E72
Android History: HTC Desire, SE Xperia Arc, HTC Sensation, Sensation XE, One X+, Google Nexus 5

Nokia Photos can handle only the videos and images. All other stuff is handled by PC Suite for backup and viewing purposes - except the sound clips which can be synced by Nokia Music. Unfortunately, there is no Nokia solution for all-in-one for SMS, clips and images.
    Ericsson T10i -> Nokia 7110 -> Siemens C45, C55, M55, M65 -> Nokia 6131, N73, N82 -> HTC Wildfire, Desire HD -> Nokia Lumia 800 -> HTC Desire X -> Lumia 820 -> Sony Xperia SP -> Lumia 925 + Sennheiser CX 500

  • Photos disappear from book project

Producing a photo book in iphoto.
The project looks complete i.e. there is a photo on all pages with no blanks.
After quiting iphoto and reopening iphoto some photos and text are missing in the project.
Does iPhoto auto save or must I save the project before quiting iPhoto?
I uploaded what appeared to be a full project for a book but upon checking with apple there were some blanks.  Apple cancelled the charges.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks
    Arthur

After quiting iphoto and reopening iphoto some photos and text are missing in the project.
no error messages and accessed from macbook
Are the missing photos only gone from the book album or also gone from the library?
The only other way I know of, that photos can vanish from your iPhoto library, if you do not access the library from outside iPhoto, would be syncing with an online service, like Facebook - that could remove photos from your synced albums,  or using cleaning apps, like "clean my mac 2".

  • Pictures Randomly Vanish from Lightroom on my iMAC

I’m moving pictures from my old HP LIGHTROOM to my new iMAC LIGHTROOM and have discovered that my pictures tend of vanish from both, so that I’m left completely  unsure if any picture I move to or import into LIGHTROOM on my
iMAC will be there permanently. I’ve experienced this software instability in LIGHTROOM on my PC and was hoping if I moved to the iMAC the problem would
be resolved, but I see it is an inherent  and significant bug in the LIGHTROOM software. I’ve had the entire contents of the catalogs on both my PC and iMAC disappear requiring me to re-import the pictures (resulting in even random duplications} and to reenter and re-annotate metadata for thousands of pictures.  I have searched in vain for any satisfactory explanation, most of all from Adobe, what might be going on here and how to prevent or alleviate the problem. I welcome any suggestions or advice on this frustrating and highly irritating feature of LIGHTROOM.

There was no prompt to relink anything.  What happened in the most recent
"disappearance"  was I imported some additional photos (959 pictures) and
suddenly that was all that was in Lightroom.  All other 31K photos had
disappeared -- no thumbnails, no folders, nothing.  The originals are stored
on the IMac.  And all the work that had been done (in LR)  on them was gone.
When I tried to reload them into Lightroom the 959 photos disappeared AND I
got some 62 k photos duplicates of every single picture even though the
    avoid duplication box was checked.

  • How can I see My Photo Stream from two Macs associated with the same Apple ID?

I have a MacBook Pro (my personal machine) and an iMac (our family computer).
The iPhoto library housing all of our family photos lives on the iMac.
The iPhoto library on my MacBook Pro is currently empty.
I have an account on both machines.  I have associated the same Apple ID with both machines.
When I launch iPhoto on my MacBook Pro and attempt to turn on photo sharing (so that I can see My Photo Stream, as well as other shared streams), iPhoto informs me that "iCloud Photos for xxx@xxx is being used with another library named 'iPhoto Library'."
My iPhone, which is also affiliated with the same Apple ID, shows the streams just fine.
What can I do to remedy this situation?  I'd like to be able to view my shared streams on my MacBook Pro, while leaving the actual massive photo library on the iMac.

I found out about this issue when I created a new library with some photo's I wanted to sync to my iCloud account.  I found the following on the Fat Cat Software page and thought it might be helpful to others:
Using Photo Stream with multiple libraries
Starting in iPhoto 9.2, Apple introduced a new feature called Photo Stream, which lets you automatically transfer photos via their iCloud service between your iPhoto library and your other devices such as an iPhone, iPad, or another Mac. This feature works when you have multiple iPhoto libraries set up, but there are a couple things to be aware of.
First, iPhoto will only allow Photo Stream to be active in one iPhoto library at any given time. If you've already enabled Photo Stream in one library, but then open a second library and enable Photo Stream there, this will cause Photo Stream to be turned off in the first library.
Any photos downloaded by Photo Stream are actually stored in an entirely separate location from any of your iPhoto libraries. This means that, even if you do switch Photo Stream from one library to another, you will not need to go through redownloading all the photos you already have in Photo Stream back from the iCloud servers. So, switching Photo Stream from one library to another is a relatively inexpensive operation, so you can do it as often as needed without it being much of a hassle.

  • How can I subscribe to a Shared Photo Stream from iPhoto 9.4 on OSX 10.7.5 ?

I just updated to iPhoto 9.4 on both my (just updated) OSX 10.8.2 MacBook Pro and my OSX 10.7.5 Mac mini.
For some mysterious reason Apple specifies that I can not subscribe to the new "Shared Photo Streams" from my OSX 10.7.5 Mac mini.
    How could that be ?
How can I get around this ?
How can it be that Apple claims that 'Shared Photo Streams' can be shared to all my other devices, but it turns out that my major photo-database can't, even though it has a brand new version of last year's OSX running... ???!!!
This can't be a software issue...
because if that were the case Apple would be deliberately cutting off users of last year's operating system... (...I even think there is a law prohibiting that...)
so... can anyone tell me what the exact piece of hardware is that I am missing ?
or has anyone found a solution for this yet ?
    Thanks !

The only hardware that's preventing me from upgrading to 10.8 "Mountain Lion" would be the fact that a Mid-2007 Mac mini doesn't have a separate graphics card...
...as all other hardware-components ar similar to the iMac Mid 2007... :
    - at least 2GB of PC2-5300 (667MHz) DDR2 SO-DIMM RAM
    - a 64-bit Intel Core 2 Duo "Merom" processor
    - a WiFi-N compatible AirPort-card (I've upgraded the one in my Mac mini to an Atheros AR-9280...)
    - OSX 10.6.8 or later installed (I have OSX 10.7.5)
    - iPhoto 9.4
...so the only spec I not meeting hardware-wise is the fact that my Mac mini has a GMA950 shared graphics card...
but surely... that can not be the reason I can't subscribe to a Photo Stream...
why would that have anything to do with eachother ???!!!
[ I've even seen claims of tricked OSX 10.8 installers for the Mid-2007 Mac mini, so if that's my only option... ]
