Photos within video footage go crazy

I have some video footage from a recent trip and I included pictures from the trip in between video clips. Within iMovie the movie plays fine, but when I export it the pictures play very strangely. One picture will come on-screen briefly, then flash back to a previous picture from the movie. This happens 3 or 4 times when the picture is supposed to be on-screen.
I wonder if how I imported the pictures is a problem? I would import within iMovie from an iPhoto album, which put the picture at the end of my movie. Then I would "cut" the picture, move the timeline to where I wanted to insert the picture and paste it there. Doesn't sound too difficult, does it?
As a test I created a brand new movie and dragged the entire iPhoto album folder into the timeline. I added a Ken Burns effect to one picture and a cross dissolve between two pictures,* then exported it. In the resulting movie, the first picture does the Ken Burns thing, cross disolves to the second picture (which is very blurry) and the third picture cycles between it and the second picture, just like in my problem movie. But the remaining pictures play fine.
The movies (AVI: M-JPEG, DVI ADPCM) and pictures (JPEG) are from my digital camera.
Anyone know what's going on?
(* In my original movie there are no dissolves or effects from pictures to footage or vice versa.)

Another update (since it seems like I'm the only one in the world to experience this problem):
I tried two other iMacs, one running 10.4.11 like me and another running Leopard. Using iMovie HD I created a new movie, imported some pictures and exported the movie. Everything worked fine.
I went back to my machine and deleted the iMovie .plist file. I tried the same test with pictures on my old test movie. It didn't work. I created a brand new movie, which worked. I went back to my original movie and pulled out some pictures, insert other, etc. Nothing worked.
So maybe the movie gets into a strange state and won't export image-to-DV clips correctly. I think I can solve this two ways:
- create a brand new movie and copy all the old movie's clips over
- export the pictures I'm interested in as an iPhoto slideshow and import that into iMovie, then chop it up picture by picture.

  • How to get a photo from video footage

  • Adding transitions changes picture/video footage times

    Hi there,
When i have photos or video footage in my project, and i insert transitions it auto changes/shortens the length of the pic/footage either side of the transition. I have to manually retype the timeframes in to change each back, but that even sometimes doesnt even work...
    Please help!

This is expected behavior, however frustrating it might be. You might want to become familiar with preference settings. Some apply just to your current "project", where you can set things like how long photos play, the length and type of transition and so on.
I find it useful to have the automatic preferences set while I put a project together, so that whatever transition and slide timing I prefer is applied to everything, and then turn off the automatic feature so I can change the individual details of just those pics or transitions that need it. This way, I don't have to change nearly as many once everything is in line.

  • I need to know how to download all photos AND videos from 2 "libraries" within Adobe Revel. Please help.

I was quite angered last night when I posted the first time, so lets try this again:
Here is my setup:  I have adobe Revel on my Mac and iOS devices and it has worked quite well to be honest until I recently realized my photos and videos are basically trapped within the software. There is no way (that I am aware) to export all photos/videos or any kind of tool to pull the raw data out of the app and put it into say iPhoto or Lightroom.
Since I am not a fan of this sort of lock-in, (something I despise and encourage companies never to do), I am sadly going to cancel my Revel account once I get this sorted and store my photos elsewhere. This is a huge missed opportunity for Adobe, as the money is not an issue - its simply that the quality of service I need just doesn't seem to be there for this product.
So here is what I am trying to achieve:  I simply want every one of my photos and videos to store on my hard drive like the old days.  I don't care about folders or hirarcy or any kind of organization - I can do that with the metadata later. I simply want all of my things.
My hang up is in that I have already tried methods like "Show package contents" in the photos/adobe revel route and that works to an extent, but is incredibly cumbersome as I have to sift through all of the many folders.  If that were the worst of it, I might be ok.  But what is truly alarming and making this difficult is that I don't know where on earth the videos in Revel are actually stored.  They show up in the application and I could export them one by one but I literally have hundreds.  I can't find the actual files on my Mac anywhere.
Is there anyone at all who can help with this?  The goal is to make this transition fairly easy and I feel that Adobe has very intentionally made it very difficult to consider leaving. I spend >$50/month on Adobe services and I am a little in shock this application seems so poorly designed for anything other than just dropping your photos into it.  Please, please help if you can.  I would be so grateful as Adobe customer service doesn't seem to know or care much about supporting this product.

    Hi KDT
Yeah. I agree, if you are used to a situation where "it's on the cloud AND synced down to your hard disk where you can get it" Revel is not exactly that. There were legacy decisions behind that - most not as sinister as you might think but I won't bore you with those details.  AND yes you are correct. We currently don't have any way for you to wholesale download everything at once. So you aren't missing anything. Until we provide that mechanism I can provide some guidance.
I'm going to assume you have the current version of Revel on your Mac which is 2.0.
The easiest thing for you to do will be to export your files manually. You can actually select a range of files and export. So it's not a one by one thing.
You'll have to decide how best to perform the selection based on your photography habits. If you tend to take batches of files surrounding specific dates. You could do it by date. In the date view (In the applications upper right "Showing: Dates"). If you look at the end of a date row you'll see a small grid. If you click that grid you are taking into a grid view of just that date. If you select all and file>export you'll export the contents of that date.
The other option is remaining in Grid view (In the applications upper right "Showing:Grid") and perform a shift+selection where you select your first file, move down the desired range and while holding shift you select a second file (standard multi-select stuff).
One thing to keep in mind as you do this. You'll notice when you export you can export original or 'current version'. Export original does just that. Exports unedited original versions of your images as they were uploaded to us. When you export the current version of an image we'll export a rendition of the edited image. This "current version" image is not the original and in most cases will be a rendition that is not the same size as the original. So keep that in mind as you proceed.
Not ideal, I fully realize, but I do hope it gets you closer to having your images back on your hard disk as you desire.
As for your subscription. Assure you have checked your iOS Appstore subscription settings and set Revel to not auto-renew. Unfortunately for a pro-rated refund on the subscription balance you no longer desire you'll need to work with Apple as they hold the purse strings for Appstore purchases. Refunds haven't been a problem in the past so you should have no issue.
    Hope this helps.

  • Access historical photos and videos stored within iMessages

Is there a way to access all photos and videos stored within iMessages without having to go through each conversation hitting 'load more' again and again?
For some of my long conversations the messages app crashes after a while returning me to the home screen so I can't view any older messages, videos or photos. It's too cumbersome having to do that anyway. I hope there's a simpler way as my messages storage size has ballooned and needs to be reduced.

Has no one else got the same problem?!
Whatsapp allows a detail view for any contact or group where it's possible to view all media exchanged between that contact/group. iMessage should have the same.
iMessage seems to balloon in size quicker too.
Whatsapp/Viber reduce media size/quality so take less space but iMessage doesn't. Each picture is sent full size for example 3-4mb for one taken with the phone! It should give size option like is given when emailing....should be quick implementation too since that already have that functionality.

  • How do I capture a still photo from my video footage??

Probably easy I know, but just wondering how to capture a still photo from my video footage. I pulled a particular clip into my viewer window and have found the still shot I want, what next??
Thanks in advance for any help.
    Cheers,
    Bill

Put the playhead over the frame in the timeline and choose Modify>Make Freeze Frame. It will appear in the Viewer window. Drag it into the timeline.
If you want a photo for iPhoto etc. put the playhead over the frame and select File>Export>Using QuickTime Conversion.
In the window that opens change the "Format" setting to Still Image from the dropdown menu.

  • Showing Photos While Video Clips Continue to Play

I am trying to fade in photos while a video clip and its sound continue playing. (Although the video clip continues to play, it's obscured by the photo.)
Currently when I place a photo into the storyboard the video clips stop playing, the photo shows, and then the video starts again.
Does anyone know how photos can appear in my movie without interrupting the playing of the video and its audio?
    Thanks!

    Hi bcas and welcome!
You want to superimpose a still photo on a moving video? No problem!
But you need to buy Quicktime Pro. Here is how to do it (don't worry about the references to video within video, it works the same for stills - you will soon get the hang of it!
Organise the video clips and/or stills that you want to superimpose on to your main video clip, by having these in separate, individual iMovie projects (no matter how small). It helps if these are in the exact length/time you want later.
Now start with the clip in your iMovie project on to which you want to superimpose one of more smaller video clips or stills. Lets call it Main Clip. Export this (share) to Quicktime Pro in DV (full quality). make sure it has the same aspect as before (Quicktime tends to default to 4:3. If you want 16:9, read on).
In Quicktime, with this project open, select File ~ Open File. Select the iMovie file (in your movies folder) of the first clip/still you want superimposed. This will open in its own QT window. Select Edit ~ copy. If it is a movie clip then select all ~ copy (or you will only get one frame!). Switch back to the Main Clip window, and click in the scroll bar where you want the extra clip/still to appear. Choose Edit ~ Add to Movie.
You can repeat this as many times as you like, if you want to build a 'Video Wall', i.e. have several superimposed clips/stills on the same Main Clip.
Do not worry that the new clip overlaps or covers up the Main Clip, at this stage.
Choose Window ~ Show Movie Properties. The Properties Dialogue appears.
You will see a list of video (and audio) tracks. Track one will be the Main Clip, track 2 your new added (superimposed) clip. Click track 2, then click visual settings. From the Scaled Size pop-op menu, choose percent. Then type 50 into the first box. If Preserve Aspect Ratio is turned on you won't need to type 50 into the second box. You have made the pasted footage appear at one quarter its original size. The inset is now hugging the top-left corner of the Main Clip. If you want, you can type numbers into the Offset Boxes to shove it away from that corner (there are 72 pixels to the inch).
If your original Main Clip was required in 16:9, unclick (de-select) Preserve Aspect Ratio, and type in 1920 in the first box, and 1080 in the second, in Video Track 1. This will not affect video track 2, but if that is also wanred in 16:9 repeat for that track.
You can superimpose, 3, 4, or more such 'overlaps' on the same clip, and spend a happy afternoon tapping away for each track in the Offset Boxes until you have got them all in the right place! You can even overlap them, if you can remember (or note down - hire a secretary to take notes) which track you want on top etc.
Save the completed QT file. Import the completed file into a new iMovie project. Import this into the original iMovie project, substituting the old clip you copied to QT as Main Clip for the new fancy clip you have made.
    Have fun!

  • Burned video footage, but no video when playback

    Hi,
I would like to backup high-def video footage on disc.  My first attempt succeeded in creating a dvd that played back with the dvd player but could not be imported back into FCE.  (There were no .mov files on the disc, just separate audio and video folders).
Next I compressed the footage H.264 as an export file from FCE and then there was a .mov file on the disc.  But when I attempted to import it back into FCE the audio played but no video.
The third attempt I exported Quicktime files from FCE but did not check the box "Make Movie Self-contained".  I burned the disc using IDVD onto a DVD-R.  It played back fine but only when the external hard drive with the original .mov was plugged in.  After disconnecting the hard drive, the disc just played back audio.  No screen for video.  When I attempted to import the file back into FCE I got the error message - "Movie clip #39 cannot be found."  (The file wasn't named clip #39.)
    I'm using FCE 4.01 on a OS X 10.4.11.
    Suggestions?
    Thanks.

    Hi
I think that You may be not know that one can make two kinds of DVDs (burnings)
Video-DVD to be played on DVD-player (a very standardized way)
Data-DVD that can hold video too - but will NEVER play on a DVD-player/TV
Video-DVD has to be created via a Video encoding program as iDVD, DVD-Studio Pro or Roxio Toast™ and MUST contain at least two folders Video_TS and Audio_TS and the Audio_TS folder is empty BUT has to be here anyway. Video is encoded in a special sort of .mpeg2 code that suits DVD-player.
You can add to the Video-DVD an extra folder with a H.264 version of Your movie too if You like but then You also has to do some calculation so that the space on the DVD will be enough.
HD-DVD - No there are near to Zero (an historical type existed for a very short time and coud only be played on a few Toshiba HD-DVD players)
DVD - is as standard max. SD-Video (as on old CRT-TVs)
But here is some notes I've made reg. FCE/P to iDVD work.
    FCE/P to iDVD
    Several things
    • How to go from FCE/P to iDVD
    • Free space on Start-up hard disk
    • Encoding
    • Brand and type of DVDs used
    • Burn speed set
    • iDVD BUG
    • Chapters
How to go from FCE/P to iDVD I do
    • Disable Screen and Energy saver
    • IMPORTANT --> FIRST in FinalCut - Mix Down Audio under Sequence Menu / Render Only / Mixdown
    • Export out as a QuickTime .mov file
    • Select with Mark - Chapter Mark
    • Not as Self-Contained (not important but saves time and space)
    • NO QUICKTIME CONVERSION (IMPORTANT)
This QT.mov file I import into iDVD from within iDVD.
Free space on Start-up hard disk
I set a minimum of 25GB (for Mac OS and iDVDs temp files)
    Encoding
    • I use Pro Quality encoding
Brand and type of DVDs used
    • I use Verbatim
    • I use DVD-R
    Burn speed set
    • I set down this to x4 (or x1)
    iDVD BUG
    • One can not go back to movie-project for any alterations and then go back to
the iDVD project. It will notice and ask You to either Up-date or Cancel. Neither
    of them will work.
Medicine - Start a brand new iDVD project.
    Use of Chapters
    • I only use a to z and 0 to 9 in naming them. NO other symbol/letter !
    • NO Chapter-mark at very beginning - iDVD NEEDS TO set this by it self
    • No Chapter marks in or within two seconds from a transition
(Way around this last one - Export movie as QT full quality and NO Chapter marks
Import this into a new Movie-project and now You are free to set C-Ms where You want
them except at very beginning - still)
    Material used to build movie
    • video - I use streamingDV (or convert all other to this eg .mp4, .avi, .wmv etc)
    • audio - I use .aiff 16-bit 48kHz or from Audio-CD (44.1kHz) - no .mp3 or direct from iTunes
    • photos - I use .jpg - no .bmp etc
Trash iDVD pref file and run Repair Permissions - and have a re-try.
    from post ??
May not be relevant, but I had the same problem with iDVD, where burned DVDs showed a green screen. It was cured by quitting Quicksilver and Quickeys as well as disabling sleep and screensaving

  • Photo and video consolidation / management

I have photo and video files in multiple locations and applications (desktop, Documents, iPhoto, external hard drive). I'm looking for a program or app that will search, find, and consolidate all my media files (hopefully getting rid of duplicates along the way). Any suggestions?  Plex has been suggested but I don't know much about it.

Photo Shack Pro is one that does work right out of your iPad's Photos Library.  It allows you to organize your photos into albums within libraries without duplicating any photos or creating a separate photo storage.  You can sort, search, title, comment, view detailed photo metadata, rotate photos, and zoom into full resolution up to 16 Mp.  Works with both photos and videos in your iPad's Photos Library, including those you've taken with the built-in cameras, or synced with the Camera Connection Kit.  It does all this without actually changing anything in your iPad's Photos Library.  It just provides a photo management interface into that library.

The first step in troubleshooting and electronic device is a restart.  Have you tried this?
Power it off/on, or hold the power button and center buttons together for about 15 seconds or more until you see the HP logo.  Release the button.

  • Exporting a JPEG in 4:3 from video footage in Final Cut pro is impossible

I'm trying to export a screen grab from final cut pro as a jpg. It's easy to export a jpg image, but as far as I can tell, it is completely impossible to export it as a 4:3 aspect ratio image. My video footage is all 4:3 but all of the jpg images I try to export come out squished into 16:9. This is driving me crazy!
    Here is what I'm doing . . .
Export >Using Quicktime Conversion >Format (Still Image)
From their I've tried every setting you can imagine and FCP still obstinately refused to allow me to export a jpg image in it's true proportions.
    Please prove me wrong.

Awesome! You rock moblie! Thanks a lot for the info. I was wondering why the image proportions were correct in photoshop (ie. 720x480, I thought those were 4:3 dimensions, but I guess it's just resolution?). I adjusted the image in photoshop to be 720x534 pixels and it looks fine now.
I realize this isn't the smartest question in the world, but why isn't 720x480 a 4:3 aspect ratio? I don't really understand aspect ratio all that well (as you can tell).
    Thanks again!

  • Importing and organizing raw video footage - options

    greetings-
Looking for a better solution, if available, for importing & organizing raw video. I am using imovie for now. Soon to switch to FC express. After much exploring & learning on my new machine (recent convert), I’m a bit frustrated on how it video is handled.
Please correct any of these that I’ve got wrong, but it appears that:
Importing video (from DV camera) with programs provided on my machine can only be done through imovie and idvd.
Importing video through these programs requires creating a project, and importing the video to that project.
Then that imported video is associated with that project.
So I want to take the imported clips (say from imovie), and organize them archiving, use on other projects, backup, etc. I know that I can find the actually video files by control clicking on the project in finder, hit show package, and get to "clip 1, clip 2...clip 55". This represents the raw footage, but now I’ve got say 55 separate clips, for just one import.
I’d like to effectively organize my various raw videos by year/event etc. So that when working a project, a can pull in the different footage that I want to use. For instance, I previously imported and organzied video footage with my PC editing software, and now, thankfully, I can just bring that various footage from the external drive into Imovie and edit. If I want to do a project and grab some footage from 04, 05, 06, it's all right there.
Is there a better solution for import & organizing my raw video clips more efficiently with imovie or idvd?? Or perhaps another program. Such that I’ve got the 1/2 hr of video "Christmas 05", one file (not 40 seperate clips), saved, and can pull it into projects as needed in the future... Ideally maintaining the clip breaks. Am I asking to much from apple? How do you all import/manage/save your imported video?
    Much thanks for any feedback!

    Ciao Rubbersoul,
unfortunately iMovie doesn't allow you to rename the clips (other than within the project), so if you want to label them for future reference, you'll have to do that outside iMovie.
I personally save the best shots from each project to an external hard drive using the following method:
    • simply drag the desired clips from the iMovie project to the desktop
    • organize the clips by creating the appropriate folders (e.g. by subject, time, etc.), so you'll find your footage faster
    • rename the clips within the folders. If you don't need to give each clip a separate name, you can use tools like Renamer4Mac (http://www.power4mac.com) to batch-rename the clips.
    • transfer and organize your folders/clips on the external (Firewire) hard disk. You can do that manually or by using media browsers like iDive to organize and view your clips. iDive is a digital hub that can help you to keep not only your video but also music and pic collections under control, and it integrates with iMovie and FCE/FCP. Check it out here:
    http://www.aquafadas.com/idive-digital-video/index.php
Always remember that DV eats up a lot of disk space and don't forget to back up your footage to tape.
    spero che ti sia d'aiuto

  • Why are photos and videos taken with my iPhone 6 not recognized in iPhoto?

My Mac and my iPhone 6 are both up to date but I still can't upload photos and videos to iPhoto from my iPhone 6. It gives me the message that they are in an unrecognizable format. I have restarted my Mac and tried selecting a few photos at a time to see if there were a couple that stalled the whole process but I get the error message every time. What can I do?

Does it happen with all pictures, or just those taken in low light? If its just low light what you are seeing is "noise" in the image, and there isn't much you can do about it. The resolution of the back camera is much higher than the resolution of the screen, so you should not see grain anywhere within the zoom range of the viewing screen - unless you took the picture using zoom. As the camera does not have optical zoom, when you zoom before snapping all you are doing is using less of the sensor, and that can result in a grainier image.
