Photos won't import

Connected my iphone to sycnronize with itunes.
itunes/iphone did not recongnize device
Opened up image capture. Unplugged phone and re-plugged it and then device showed up in image capture.
Attemped to go through the process to pull photos off phone and import into iphoto.
iphoto pulled all photos successfully - I clicked "delete photos" from device after import. Photos sucessfuly deleted from phone.
Closed image capture
When back into iPhoto. When I clicked on "import photos" it would bounce to the "last import" screen and then an error message popped up that said jpg file is unrecgonizable.  I tried several times. Even tried deleting photos that it highlighted as unrecognizable to no avail.  Finally go frustrated and disconnected device and now the photos are gone. :-(
Are they gone gone?  It looks like icloud did a back-up last night.  If I restore my phone to the back-up on icloud will the pictures come back to camera roll?
How do I get them to import correctly?
I'm sick over this!  Thanks!

Can you drag them to the Clips Pane? Sometimes the Timeline is fussy and won't import, but the Clips Pane should.
Are they accessible from the Media Pane in iMovie?
Do the photos function correctly inside iPhoto? Specifically, can you view them at full size, and will they open for editing?

  • Certain photos won't import into iPhoto?

Today I tried to import all of my photos from the past few months into iPhoto from my iPhone 5s. But what I discovered is that all of my pictures from February 21st until May 9th won't import or won't appear in my iPhoto library, but they are obviously still on my phone. All of my pictures from May 9th until now imported, but it's just within that specific time frame that none of those pictures will import and I have absolutely no idea why. I tried rebooting my computer and phone, force quitting iPhoto, selecting only the photos that won't import and trying to import those individually, but nothing is working. Please help, I'm really upset and frustrated.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then try the action that you're having trouble with again. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.

  • Certain photos won't import into catalog...

When I attempted to import about 650 photos from an 8GB CF card, the last 100 photos failed to import. I received a catalog error and LR was forced to restart. However, even after the catalog was fixed and I resumed the importing process, the same 100-photo segment failed to import without a catalog error.
I then decided to create a new catalog and import the photos here (while copying the RAWs to my computer). This worked. I tested the new catalog for integrity and usability, and it was fine. However, when I tried to merge the new catalog with my main catalog, I received the same catalog error.
I'm not sure what the issue it. I'm guessing that it might have something to do with an issue with copying the RAWs to directory in my main catalog, but I'm not sure. This still makes no sense to me. At the moment, I'm working on those 100 photos separately with no problems, but would really like to incorporate them into my main catalog for archival purposes.

Is your catalog 2GB and on a FAT32 volume, where 2GB is the maximum file-size?
Can you import anything else into this catalog, such as JPGs or other new test RAWs?

  • New Photos Won't import from iPhone into iPhoto

i have photos i can see on my iPhone 4
but when I plug into USB on my MacBook Pro it
    is not importing
    please help

I am experiencing exactly the same problem, my iPhoto used to detect my iPhone and proceed to the automatic transfer of new photos, and now it doesn't anymore.
I've done quite a bit of research on this issue, but I can't seem to have any luck in fixing it...
Here's some fixes that I found on other sites that you could try:
    1. Reset the iPhone and your Mac.
    2. Check (from memory) if you have any pictures in your camera roll that weren't taken with your iPhone camera (this includes screenshots, photos downloaded from the web, email, etc.), this may be the cause of the problem and it's what makes iPhoto not recognize the phone as a camera anymore.
As for my problem, I've tried everything: resetting the phone, resetting my MacBook Pro, first deleting all photos that might be causing the problem, now I've deleted ALL my photos, and my Mac still won't detect my iPhone as a camera.
iTunes can see it just fine, and I can sync with it perfectly, but I can't sync it with iPhoto for the life of me...
If anyone could help, that would be perfect...

  • LR4.4 photos won't import nikon d7100

I have updated LR 4.4.1 and cannot import my photos from my Nikon d7100.  They are in .NEF format.  I am using the new iMAC 2.7ghz.  I am the "managed user" and my wife is the admin user.  Neither of us can import the photos, therefore, it is not a permission issue.  I have called mac and they have done all they can do.  It now seems like it is an adobe issue.  I am trying to import from the sd card.  I can see the images, up to about 50 images, but when I say import, it runs through the process to finally tell me that the import was unsuccessful.
    HELP!!!!!

Have the files or SD card ever been used in Nikon Transfer or other Nikon software? There is a known issue where the files from the D7100 are used in older versions of Nikon Transfer that shipped with an earlier camera model.
I have no problem importing into LR4.4 (see image below) but I first copied the file to a folder on my hard drive and in LR used Import >> Add
You could try shooting a fresh NEF and copying straight to the hard drive to see if that makes any difference.

  • Iphone photos won't import to iphoto

When I try to import photos from my iPhone I click "import selected photos" and then iPhoto goes to the events menu and my iPhone disappears from the left side. The iPhone still appears in iTunes, so even though it doesn't appear in iPhoto, it is still there in iTunes.
I have tried selecting all photos to import, and a select few, but neither method works. I have also tried Image Capture, but my iPhone doesn't appear in the device list.
I've tried rebooting, and have tried disconnecting my iPhone and then reconnecting it many times. Each time it appears in iPhoto, but disappears as soon as I begin to import.

    Try resetting the Phone.

  • Photos won't import in to iPhoto 9.6 (Yosemite) from iPhone

Anybody seeing issues with importing photos in to the latest version of iPhoto 9.6 (910.29) from an iPhone (iOS 8.0.2)? Seems to get stuck on "Preparing to import".

The iPhoto Library is a disk image located in a shared folder on the HD to provide access even to another user account. The disk image has a size of 21 Gb ... maybe the problem is right there! Only 30 Mb available.
That is your problem. Sharing an iPhoto Library in a Shared folder between users is not supported. If you open the library from a different account the ownership of items inside the library will change and you will have to repair permissions after each write access from a different user account.
The only supported way to share a library is on an external disk or a partition with the "Ignore Ownership" flag set.  See this Apple Support document:   iPhoto: Sharing libraries among multiple users
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1198
Sorry I missed the "disk image when I read your answer,    but the size of the disk image is too small with only 30 MB available.  Copy your library to a larger disk partition or a  disk image with more storage space.

  • Photoshop "import failed" error. Photos won't import from camera. Anyone else with this error?

    Hi,
I am using photshop elements 9 with windows 7. I have been successful in importing photos in the past.  Recently I have received the error message "import failed"  "95% nothing was imported the files or folder selected did not contain any supported file types or the files are already in catalog".  The files are not  in the catalog.  I have uninstalled and reinstalled the program, I have repaired the catalog as suggested on another thread with the same issue.  Nothing is working.  On the catalog repair it said there were errors and I did the repair on those, I then tried to import again and got the same error message.  I then tried to tag a photo that was already in organizer and received an error message that the files are corrupt.'m beyond frustrated now. Thanks
    Annette

    Annette,
    Welcome to the forum.
As Curt points out, this is not the Photoshop Elements Forum. I will Move your post to that forum, where you will get great support. Your links and any e-mail subscriptions will follow perfectly.

  • Iphone photos won't import

this has been a problem with two differenent iphones i've owned - i have about 4,400 photos on my iphone, but only about 1,600 will import to my iMac through BOTH iphoto and image capture. all i want is every single photo on my iphone to be backed up as a usable .jpg in it's original file size on my iMac - why does this seem to be impossible for me? i've scoured forums for a similar problem, but have not found myself a fix. in iphoto - the import stalls out at around 2,800 count and just sits there - so alas i only get about 1/3 of my photos.
in image capture, it goes through all the photos and imports "what it wants" i guess, skipping huge chunks of photos, about the same amount as iphoto. i'm beginning to think something is corrupted, or perhaps there is a specific photo or vid that is crashing both applications - if i only get a similar count of photos from two different imports. HELP!!!!

Try transferring them wirelessly with an app like PhotoSync.  I haven't noticed any reduction in image size with photos taken on the 4S.

  • My photos won't import from my camera into iPhoto

Just recently my photos are not able to upload from my Canon camera into iPhoto, but it was working before.
When I plug the USB camera into my Mac the device shows up on the sidebar column in iphoto, it will say "Loading Photos" with the little circular waiting symbol and then it will just go to a blank grey screen.
If I try to click on any of the options under "File" or "Edit" they are all greyed out.
I'm not sure what the problem is since the camera is clearly connecting and being ready by iphoto and starting the import, but then it just stops. There are definitely pictures on the camera to import because I can view them on the camera.
Has anyone else had this problem or know how they might be able to help? Everything seems to be working except for the last step.

Can you access the imges on the card with Image Capture (in your Applications Folder) ?
I would try reformat the card with your camera.

  • HT204655 My photos won't import into Word for Mac after OS X upgrade

After upgrading to the new OS X Yosemite does anyone know how to import photos into Word or Excel for Mac? That library is now grayed out for me and I am in mid-project on Word. I used to be able to copy and paste right into my document, now it seems I must exclusively work within the Photos program.

I actually found that the issue started for me after the MS Office update last week. It was originally working fine with the new Photos for Mac App until the MS Office update. Now Word can't find the photo browser, it only shows Photo Booth. I also can't drag drop photos from the Mac App into Word, like I used to be able to. At the moment I export the photos to a directory then I can input from file in Word. That works, but it's a bit untidy.
I'm thinking off trying the Office 2016 for Mac, which are available now as demos. Unfortunately Microsoft don't reply to questions that are raised, so I'm not sure what the underlying issue is with photo's not working.

  • Desktop Photos Won't Import...!!

Photo on desktop is not importing. iPhoto thinks it's in the iPhoto Library. Error message -
"Cannot import files, unreadable or no data" Dragging them into iPhoto doesn't work either.
I have saved the images to another drive with the same result.
Repaired permissions and rebuilt the iPhoto Librbary.
    Any help here? TIA

    A couple of thoughts:
Log into another user account on the computer and see if you can import from that desktop into iPhoto. If so, then it's a conflict with your first account only. You can use Preferential Treatment, http://homepage.mac.com/jonn8/as/html/pt.html, to see if there's any obvious damaged preference files in your primary account. There's also a method to check for conflicting preference files. It was developed by another poster to the Apple Discussions.
Go to the HD/Users/Your_name/Library. Move the Preferences folder (in its entirety) to the desktop. Start iPhoto. Determine if problem is fixed.
If the problem IS fixed, then go to the new Preferences folder that the OS will have created and open it up. Except for those items that are obviously not related, move the contents to the old Preferences folder on the desktop, replacing what had been there. When in doubt, move the item. The worst thing that can happen is a harmless "alert" message. Then, trash what remains of the new folder. Finally, move the old (but modified) Preferences folder back to the library.
If the problem is NOT fixed, trash the new Preferences folder and move the old one back to its original location
I'm not sure if you're familiar with the File System Check (fsck) but it wouldn't hurt to run it. You can do so two ways: 1 - boot into your system install disk and launch it from the Apple menu - if not under the Apple it's in one of the menus in the menu bar; 2 - boot into single user mode. Here's how:
    FSCK - File System Check
To start up in single-user mode
    1. Restart the computer.
    2. Immediately after the startup sound, press and hold both the Command (Apple) and "s" keys on your keyboard. The computer will display a series of text messages, at which time you may release these keys.
When the computer has started up, it will display a command line prompt (#). The computer is now in single-user mode.
How to Run the File System Check from the Command Line
Once you have reached a command line, follow these steps to use fsck:
    1. At the prompt, type: fsck -fy (NOTE, there is a space between the k and the “-”)
The fsck utility will go through five "phases" and then return information about the disk's utilization and fragmentation. Once the check is finished, if no issue is found, you should see "** The volume <name of volume> appears to be OK."
If fsck alters, repairs, or fixes anything, it will display the message:
**** FILE SYSTEM WAS MODIFIED ***
IMPORTANT: If this message appears, repeat the "fsck -fy" command until this message no longer appears. It is not unusual for your computer to require several "passes" of fsck, because first-pass repairs may uncover additional errors. Run it until you get two consecutive times with an "OK" result.
    3. When fsck reports that no problems were found, type: reboot
    4. Press Return.
The fsck is something I do first thing after getting a kernel panic or when the system starts misbehaving.
    Good luck.

  • Photos won't import a jpeg

I stored a picture from an iMessage on my MacBook, then tried to drag it into Photos.  It told me that it was unreadable, that it may be an unrecognized file type or not contain valid data.  It also said
"file "(a bunch of numbers, with a date)" couldn't be saved in the folder "10""  .  The file name is actually "Photo.jpg".
    So what's going on?

That message usually indicates that you do not have permission to write to the destination folder. You need to check your read/write permissions for the hard drive and for the folder you are trying to write to.

  • Old photos won't import

I am still working on bringing all my archived images into Aperture as referenced files. Today I ran into another problem. One folder of images, after importing, are really not there. The folder structure is there. But, Aperture shows "0" images in the folders. Yet, on import, the program says "22 images imported". These are very old, probably Photoshop version 4. They open fine in bridge and PS and show up fine in iView. Any ideas? Thanks...gary
    mac book, G5   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

In the finder go to the folder that contains the library. Select the library, right click on it and "show package contents".
In the new window opened, in the searching box, type the name of one of the files you tried to import and it will show you if they are duplicated.
