Photos won't show up in camera role & forever backups.

This has been going on for 3 months now and its really becoming a pain. The problem in itself is now a giant conundrum where I can't find a possible fix so here it goes!
It all started when I noticed that when I took a photo with the built in camera it would save it to the thumbnail but when you go to view it, it would not be in the camera role, though they all show up in iPhoto just fine . I understand that this is a problem had by many and its nothing new, and there are ways of fixing it but below is where the problem gets tricky.
As soon as I connect my iphone to the computer to sync the phone in order to find the BAD CACHE or whatever, The device goes into "backing up iPhone" mode (even after I've checked the manually manage music & video's box") This would be no problem if it would actually back something up but it dosen't. One time I actually left it alone to backup *over night* after it had already taken 4 hours of of my time sitting there watching the endless loading lines pass (it didn't even get to the part with the solid bar that shows progress) I checked it the next morning and it was still loading. After *13 hours for a single backup* I called it quits and gave up. I've tried many times after hoping that it might fix itself, but each time it gets stuck in the "backing up" phase.
I know you can just restore it to factory settings for problems like this, but I can't, without losing all the stuff I've purchased that I can't sync to the computer because of the backup problem.
Can someone please walk me through a fix (where to look for the bad info caches or something) that dosen't include losing everything via a reset. I'm at my wits end with this problem and would really love if someone could help.
FYI, I have NOT updated, mostly because I can't from the 3.0- 3.1 (I'm not sure which, but its the same software version that came with the phone back in Augest 09).

FYI, My phone is a 3GS and I have NOT updated, mostly because I can't. The software I believe is from the 3.0- 3.0-1 (I'm not sure which) It was the software that came with the phone that purchased back in August 09.
    3GS

    1) Turn off auto sync: go to itunes, Edit, Preferences, Devices, "Prevent syncing of...."
    2) At the same place, youll see a list of all the backups. You can highlight and delete the ones you think are bad.
For the camera roll photos, you need to upload them from the iphone camera roll with iphoto (not a sync) as you would a digital camera, but turn off autossync first.
Once you have everything organized, you can try a restore and sync (in that order). But all your content must be on the itunes-equipped computer first.

  • Photos won't show up in my Camera Roll

I've had the 16GB 3G camera or a little over a year now (I think lol whenever it came out was when I bought it) and now whenever I take a photo, or edit one in an app, it saves the photo to the camera roll, but won't show up. It will take a photo, and when I look for it in the camera roll, it isn't there. BUT when I sync it to my computer, and import them, they show up there. I have tried restarting, and shutting down, and even backed up my iPhone today which took over an hour. I have lots of room left on my iPhone, so idk why it's not working. Anyone have any ideas?

Here is some info that might help.
(you can also use an App caleed 'FileAid')
If you have a finder-app on your phone you may navigate to the folder that stores the images(DCIM). Inside this folder there is a hidden folder called .MISC and inside this folder there’s a file called info.plist. This is the file that determines the filenames given to the photos and by deleting the whole .MISC folder you may solve your problem.
The system will generate a new folder upon next image taken and name this IMG_0001.JPG
I tried several ways and they did not work, but erasing everything in DCIM sub folders (MISC and 100apple) like Harry D said above helped me solve the problem.
Simple fix for those withOUT jailbreak.
    1. Buy Phoneview - useful for a LOT of things actually, like backing up SMS, etc.
    2. Open iphone,
    3. Click on Settings
    4. Select “Open Entire Disk”
    5. Find MISC folder on file tree
    6. Highlight and delete
    7. Done!

  • Photos won't show in Finder

I have a late 2013 13" MacBook Pro Retina using Yosemite.
In Finder, under pictures, my iPhoto library won't show pictures. It says there's 12GB of photos, but it won't show the photos. When I click on the iPhoto Library, it will open the iPhoto app and the photos will show, but again, it won't show pictures in Finder. I use to be able to see my photos in Finder.
It all started when I went to System Preferences and started clicking things under the Sharing tab.
After this, I noticed I wasn't able to see my photos in Finder. I followed another thread that said to: press control and click on iPhoto library, then click on Show Package Contents, then click on Original folder; however, when I did went through this process, I didn't have a folder that said Original, so I don't know what to do. Please Help me!!

What Finder window? Are these images in iPhoto?
There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:   You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Command-Click for selecting multiple pics.
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
(Note the above illustration is not a Finder Window. It's the dialogue you get when you go File -> Open)
You can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
There's a similar option in Outlook and many, many other apps.  If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
If you want to access the files with iPhoto not running:
For users of 10.6 and later:  You can download a free Services component from MacOSXAutomation  which will give you access to the iPhoto Library from your Services Menu.
Using the Services Preference Pane you can even create a keyboard shortcut for it.
For Users of 10.4 and 10.5 Create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use this free utility Karelia iMedia Browser
    Other options include:
Drag and Drop: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
File -> Export: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
Show File:  a. On iPhoto 09 and earlier:  Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.    3.b.
b: On iPhoto 11 and later: Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Reveal in Finder -> Original. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.

  • Photo from iMessage saved to my camera role, how come the saved photo is not available to edit with iPhoto on my iPhone?

When I save a photo from iMessage to my camera role, how come the saved photo is not available to edit with iPhoto on my iPhone?

I tapped a photo in Messages to vie it full screen.
Tapped the Share icon and saved it to my camera roll.
Opened iPhoto for iOS and my image library updated. After the update I could see the image in my camera roll. I selected the amera roll, then tapped the image I had copied from Messages. I was able to edit the photo with no problem.
Did you follow this same procedure or ry to copy the little thumbnail photo from Messages?

  • Photo won't show on cover of Iphoto Calendar after dragging and dropping

Every year I create a calendar on Iphoto and I have always been able to troubleshoot everything myself.
This time, I am stumped. The whole calendar is ready to go but for some reason, the photo I added to the cover will not show up. I am using the same photo later in the calendar without a problem. In fact, when I hover over the picture it tells me that is being used on the cover and on page 11...but I can't see it!
The title underneath the photo will only show when I click on the text box. Once I click away from it, it will disappear.
Anybody? Christmas is approaching fast and I need to get this into production ASAP to mail to Europe.

    Hi HeyBayLondon!
It sounds like you may want to try restoring your phone and then re-syncing the content from your computer to see if the information will show up after that procedure. Information on doing that can be found right here:

  • Photos won't show in movie....

    Hello,
    Hope somebody can help....
I am creating a new movie. As part of it I want to use some photos/jpegs at certain places. I have inserted them into the project browser no problem, and they show there as expected. I can edit them etc with Inspector no problem also.
However, when I play/view the project, some of the photos do not appear. Instead the screen holds an image of the last clip in the sequence, and then switches to the next once the playhead (red line) has passed over the photo. The transitions on either side of the photo also seem to be 'not seen'.
This doesnt happen for all the images I have used, but I cant find any difference  in the properties etc of the ones that do work and the ones that don't, although I could easily be missing something!
The images being used are in iPhoto and they are definitely there (i.e. the media isnt missing).
Can anybody suggest what the problem may be??
I am using iMovie 11 (9.0.4) and my OS is Lion.
    Many Thanks in advance....
    Ian

The background is a combination of items: Slice Lower Third; Eccentric; Conglobe; and Seriset. It also includes an introduction of text. I'm still having trouble rendering it and coming up with "An error occurred while trying to add a frame to the new movie (-1309)" and it won't render.
I "Save"d photo as livetype without any extension listed. The "export movie" option is grayed out. I'm thinking this is the problem.
Any ideas or thoughts on fixing?

  • Photos won't show up on viewing screen

What version of iPhoto? Version 11 9.4.2  What version of the Operating System? 10.7.5.  What were you doing when the problem arose? Trying to view a photo on the viewing page so that I could edit it Did it ever work properly? Yes, in the past I have done the same thing and the photo shows up to edit.  Step-by-step descriptions of how you got to this issue. I installed new photos and wanted to do some editing. The photos never show up on the page where I usually edit. I see them in my Photos library, but then they won't transfer to a single image.  If something doesn't work, are there error messages? No error messages What happens when you try to do this thing? As I said, the photo image does not appear. The label is there, but no image. And what steps have you tried already to solve the issue. I've looked in the iPhoto help file and also online, but have found no information.

Apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Since only one option can be run at a time start with Option #3, followed by #4 and then #1 as needed.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments.  However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • My photos won't import from my camera into iPhoto

Just recently my photos are not able to upload from my Canon camera into iPhoto, but it was working before.
When I plug the USB camera into my Mac the device shows up on the sidebar column in iphoto, it will say "Loading Photos" with the little circular waiting symbol and then it will just go to a blank grey screen.
If I try to click on any of the options under "File" or "Edit" they are all greyed out.
I'm not sure what the problem is since the camera is clearly connecting and being ready by iphoto and starting the import, but then it just stops. There are definitely pictures on the camera to import because I can view them on the camera.
Has anyone else had this problem or know how they might be able to help? Everything seems to be working except for the last step.

Can you access the imges on the card with Image Capture (in your Applications Folder) ?
I would try reformat the card with your camera.

  • Two issues on Aperture: single photo won't show in viewer, emptied trash won't indicate as empty

Using Version 3.5.1. Several after-market edit plug-ins attached. Two new problems:
Very recently, when editing, the single photo viewer mode will start showing only black (blank), or shows the photo very briefly then goes black, or shows another different photo, or a damaged-looking photo. Multiple photo viewer modes still work ok. Problem goes away upon quitting and restarting Aperture, but then shortly soonafter recurs while editing.
Also, trash continually indicates 477 undeleted photos even after emptying. Additional photos added to trash get added to this count (i.e. it then indicates, say, 492 photos in trash, while showing only the actual 15 legitimate files in the trash folder), and then can successfully deleted the actual trashed files back to the mysterious 477, although with no photos actually left in the trash folder and the Empty Trash function still active for these 477 ghost files. This problem persists despite restarting.
    Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Problem goes away upon quitting and restarting Aperture, but then shortly soonafter recurs while editing.
First of all, make sure you have a current, working backup of your Aperture library.
Is your Aperture library on your system drive or on an external drive? If external drive, how is the library connected? And is the library referenced or managed?
    Several after-market edit plug-ins attached.
Have you checked, if your plug-ins are the latest versions, and compatible with MacOS X Mavericks?
What trouble-shooting measures have you already tried? If you have not already done so, use the Aperture Library First Aid tools and repair the permissions and the database, see this page of the Aperture User Manual:  Repairing and Rebuilding Your Aperture Library: Aperture 3 User Manual
    Post back, with more information.

  • Photos won't show up in iPhoto

My hard drive recently failed and needed to be replaced. After having Apple replace my hard drive, I updated to the new operating system Lion as well as iLife 11. Though I lost everything on my hard drive all of my photos had been backed up onto an external drive. When i retrieved the back up the photos came and were back in iPhoto but with one catch... I can't completely see them. All I get is a black screen with a triangle. Though I thought the photos were completely gone, you can see in on of the photos that the photos are there because they are in the scroll bar at the bottom. Why can't I get to them??? Please help.

The ! turns up when iPhoto loses the connection between the thumbnail in the iPhoto Window and the file it represents.
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

  • My photos won't show up.

My photos are listed, but the thumbnails and images don't show up.  Attached is a screenshot.
I have used Lighroom many times before with no problems on this machine.  I have 12 GB of RAM, running Windows 7 and have updated to Lightroom 4.2.  I thought it might be taking a while to load the images, but they never appear even after an hour.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Paul

    Hi Keith,
Thanks for your response.  I tried the following, but had no success:
I set my Dell monitor to sRGB
I reset my Dell monitor to factory settings
I tinkered with the Nvidia settings
I removed the Dell monitor and replaced it with a Samsung monitor
I opened the Lightroom preferences and tinkered with some settings in there
    uggghhh!
Thanks in advance for any advice on this.

  • Why are not all photos in the "Photos" app not showing on the camera roll?

On my iPad 2 (using iOS 7.1.2) there are 1,279 photos in the Photos application. The camera roll contains 77 photos. The About section in the Settings indicate I have 1,421 photos. Why is there this discrepancy in numbers? How can I move all 1,279 photos from the Photos application to a USB flash drive?

    You cannot.
You have sync'd 1202 photos (1279-77)  from your computer using iTunes to your iPhone.
You have 77 photos on you iPhone you have taken with the iPhone and have not sync'd to your computer and deleted from the Camera Roll.
You should regularly sync all photos in the Camera Roll to your computer and delete them from the Camera Roll on the iPhone.
-> iOS: Import personal photos and videos from iOS devices to your computer
After you do this, you can sync whatever photos you want, back to your iPhone using iTunes. (These are the photos NOT in the Camera Roll).
    -> iTunes: Syncing photos
After all this, you can copy photos from your computer to a USB flash drive.

  • Vertical photos won't show

I imported all my pictures into iPhoto and when I watch them in full screen size or any other way, the vertical photos don't appear, just a gray screen and a question mark..
Does anyone know this problem or can anyone tell me what can fix this because it took me half a day to organize all off my vacation photos so yeah, it ***** that they don't show

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
The ! or ? turns up when iPhoto loses the connection between the thumbnail in the iPhoto Window and the file it represents.
The most common cause of this is User Activity in the iPhoto Library Folder in the Finder.
Have you altered, moved or renamed anything in the iPhoto Library Folder?
If you haven't, then try rebuilding the database. Hold down the apple and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Be sure and include the option to check and repair permissions in the Library.

  • My photos are not working, any recently taken photos won't show, they're just like blank grey pictures & all my photos cannot be uploaded or loaded into an editing tap, it says error, cannot find photo, and the last photo I take ends up being repeated!

someone please help me! I just traveled to hong long and the minute I arrived something wrong was happening with my photos, I can't take any new photos because if I did they either get repeated or just be shown as grey pictures and when I try to upload one to a photo editing app it says "error cannot Load photo" and the same happens in twitter and Facebook! this has been found on for Like more than a week now, even when I want to set a picture as my profile picture in man it ends up zooming the picture way more than how I chose it in the border,, I would like to be able to take good photos again, any help?

    1. You did not get an error message telling you that your iPhoto library was getting full. You got a message telling you that your HD was getting full, right?
OS X needs about 10 gigs of hard drive space for normal OS operations - things like virtual memory, temporary files and so on.
Without this space your Mac will slow down as the OS hunts for space on the disk, files will be fragmented, also slowing things down, apps will crash and the risk of data corruption - that is damage to your files, photos, music - increases exponentially.
Your first priority is to make more space on that HD. Nothing else can be done until you do.
Purchase an external HD and move your Photos and Music to it. Both iPhoto and iTunes can run perfectly well with the Library on an external disk.
Your Library has been damaged from being run on an overfull disk.
How much free space on it now?
