Photoshop 12 Resized Image

I recently bought Photoshop 12, having previously had Photoshop 9.  With Photoshop 9 I could resize a photograph to 60mm by 40mm (say) and insert it into a text in Windows 7 at exactly that size and textwrap it.  When I try to do this using Photoshop 12, the image fills the A4 page, even though it confirms that the resized photograph is 60mm by 40mm.  What am I doing wrong?

I think what you have is Photoshop Elements 12 rather than Photoshop.  Try this forum http://forums.adobe.com/community/photoshop_elements

  • New to Photoshop - resizing images

I am trying to resize some images to 700x525. I have changed it in the fixed ratio boxes, cropped it, but when I go to change it in the image size box it will not allow me to have the exact measurements I want. For example, it automatically changes to 700x522. How do I get it to the exact size I want?
    Thanks

Ok, say you were to convert an image that was 1000x800 to 700x525 you would go to image size change the width ONLY to 700 then ok that.
Then go to your crop tool and add in your fixed ratio of 700x525 then hit return twice and it will crop the image to that specific size.
If you want to do this an a fairly small number of images it may be worth setting up an action (Recording Actions | Learn Photoshop CC | Adobe TV) to speed things up, but if you are performing this on a lot of images you may want to look at batch processing  (Batch Processing | Understanding Adobe Photoshop CS6 | Adobe TV). these two options only work if you are working on images with the same proportions.
I hope this all helps. Thanks.

  • Why can't Photoshop resize images correctly?

This seems like a pretty basic function, but my copy of Photoshop can't do it right. Specifically, I'm using CS4, but I have a feeling that doesn't matter. I'd appreciate it if someone else would check to see if their copy of Photoshop works correctly either. Here's some quick step-by-step instructions to try it out:
Step 1 - Create a new file that is 4 pixels wide by 4 pixels tall. (Use basic options: 72 pixels/inch, RGB Color, Square Pixels, etc.)
Step 2 - Using the pencil tool, draw a red dot (1 pixel wide/tall) in each corner. So that the image looks like this:
Step 3 - In the menu, go to "Image" > "Image Size..." and increase the width and height of the image to 400 pixels using "Nearest Neighbor".
Now here's the image I end up with:
So we started with a 4x4 image, and now we have a 400x400 image. The math here isn't too difficult: 4 x 100 = 400. So each of our red dots in the corners should now be 100x100 pixels each. Simple enough, right?
Unfortunately, this was not the case for me. The red dot in the upper-left corner is now 97x97 pixels. The red dot in the upper-right corner is now 103x97 pixels. The red dot in the lower-left corner is now 97x103 pixels. And the red dot in the lower-right corner is now 103x103 pixels.
I guess Photoshop seems to think that both of the following statements are simultaneously true:
    1 x 100 = 97
    1 x 100 = 103
Am I alone in experiencing this buggy behavior? Or does everyone else get the same result? Is there some way to fix it?
Thanks for giving it a try!

I can confirm the problem here on Photoshop CS6 Extended x64 using Windows 7.
Adobe has never placed too much emphasis on getting things pixel-perfect in Photoshop - it is more fuzzy and touchy-feely philosophically.  This is not only illustrated by the problem noted above, but also by things like a selection made by a selection tool is often off by a pixel this way or that, paths snapped to things still don't *quite* overlap, etc.
They seem unwilling to change things that have been in the product a while, because apparently when they do so they inadvertently break other things.  And I can't say I blame them...  Given the apparent size of the code base and the extreme age of the software, I wonder what the development cost would be In order to fix something like this across the board, so that every operation really is pixel-perfect.  It might be the kind of thing that a complete redesign from the ground up is needed to fix.  Even then I guarantee you there would be problems.
To Adobe's defense, having been through the development of graphics software myself, I can authoritatively state that actually getting everything pixel-perfect is quite challenging in a world where computing can be done with integers or floating point numbers of various precisions, where no one can quite agree whether a pixel's coordinate identifies its center or one of the corners, where coordinate systems change depending on what subsystem you're using, and where OpenGL documentation recommends you offset your pixels by (0.375, 0.375) in order to ensure they align properly (no kidding).

  • CS3(AS) Open selected image in photoshop/resize/relink

    Hello,
I'm working on a layout with hundreds of placed images. I only need to resize a select few to so they are placed at 100%, I want to do this by running a script on just the image selected in layout, open it in photoshop, resize to match the scaling in Indesign and then relink. I've started a script that I hope is getting close. The image opens in photoshop but then wont resize(maybe I should post this in the photoshop scripting forum as well). And then I need it to relink back in InDesign.
Here is what I have started:
    tell application "Adobe InDesign CS3"
set theSelection to item 1 of selection
set theClass to class of theSelection
if theClass is in {image, PDF} then
set theSelection to parent of theSelection
    end if
set myHoriz to absolute horizontal scale of theSelection
set myVert to absolute vertical scale of theSelection
set theFilePathOfImage to file path of item link of graphic 1 of theSelection
    tell application "Adobe Photoshop CS3"
    activate
    open alias theFilePathOfImage
    set docRef to current document
resize image docRef width (myHoriz as percent) height (myVert as percent) resample method bicubic sharper
    end tell
    set theSelection to update theSelection
    end tell

    Richard,
What I did when faced with a similar situation was to go to Control Panel, and select Add or Remove Programs, then select Uninstall or Change for Adobe Photoshop CS2, then when prompted whether to Uninstall or Repair, choose Repair. This will fixup all the registry entries that appare to be missing from your system.
    Works for me at least.

  • Does Photoshop CS6 autosharpen resized images?

    Hi all,
I've been using Photoshop for my Photography for quite a long time and I have recently upgraded to Photoshop CS6. Whenever I resize my images in CS6, I get the feel (from looking at the images) that the application has autosharpened my images! I am quite sure about that effect because my resizing principles have remained the same since using CS5. And in CS5, whenever I resized to that same size I am resizing in CS6, I used to run the Unsharp Mask Filter to get my images look at their best! So there must be something going under the hood in CS6, or am I missing something obvious? Basically, I want to be in total control as to how much sharpness I want to apply to my resized images!!
    regards,
    Ali

In fact Adobe added the new interpolation method Bicubic Automatic new in CS6  and Adobe change Adobe's default Photoshop's Interpolation preference setting to the new method.  However Adobe did not do a good job adding the new feature.  If you leave Photoshop Preference set to Bicubic Automatic you may run into problems if you use scripts that transform things. For if the script tries to retrieve,  change and restore your Photoshop Interpolation method Photoshop will wind up with an internal error.    There are many bugs in CS6 this is one Adobe has not address yet.
Bicubic Sharper may work well on large un-sharpened soft images.  It does not work well on images that have been sharpened.
Adobe scripts like the Fit Image Plug-in always uses Bicubic interpolation.   Layer Transforms prior to CS6 always used Photoshop Preference Interpolation method.  That is why the script I write retrieve this setting change it to Bicubic ,  transform then restore the Preference.   CS6 now let the user set the interpolation method for some forms of layer transforms not all.

  • Resize images - Photoshop Elements 4

Is it possible to automatically resize "multiple" photos in Photoshop Elements 4 to 720 x 480 pixels, so that when the resized images are transferred to Premier Elements 2 and then burned onto a DVD the whole image(s) are seen on a TV screen?
Quite often I have found that I must manually resize the images so they fit into the safe margins but this can be a tedious process if there are a lot of photos.
    Thank you.

  • Photoshop resize my images

I just got a new laptop and installed Photoshop. I am used to using it so I know how the right size of my images should be. But now when I upload an image in expamle 1080p it looks two sizes smaller than it actually is. Now when I want to change the image size I will type in 500p, but it will only look like 250p. How can this be? I never had this problem on my other laptop? (and also I have checked that it is in 100% when it does this). Please can someone help me quick, I need it for a really important thing for work.

1080p is a HDTV thing  images are 1920px by 1080px.  There is also 720p where images are 1280px by 720px.  Both have a 16:9 aspect ratio.  1080p images will be scaled to 1280x720 on 720P HDTV and 720p video will be scaled to 1920x1080 on 1080p HDTV sets.    Photoshop video rendering has both 1080p and 720p presets.   Photoshop Images size does not.  Also when you resize image using Image Size you want to constrain the resize aspect ratio if you do not the image will distort.
What are you actually trying to do? I think you may have a new laptop with a high resolution display.  High resolution displays have a high DPI resolution and display many more pixels then low resolution displays the same display size.   Displays use their DPI (PPI) resolution not the image print DPI resolution.   Images with the same number of pixels look smaller on high dpi resolution display then on low dpi resolution displays because of the difference in the displays pixel size.
Most Desktop displays have a low PPI in the area of 100DPI.   There was a 204PPI 22.2" display IBM made it displayed 3840x2400 pixels back in 2001 no longer available. Even new Desktops 4K displays have a low resolution like 180DPI because of their large size 30"+.   New laptops and tablets can have high resolution some over 300PPI and will display 2560x1600 pixels or more on a small screen like 10.1".

  • Resizing Images with Photoshop programatically (SDK) ?

    Hello,
We have more 100,000+ master images that must be resized down programatically (over a nightly batch job).  We are losing photoquality when resizing these images (JPEGs).  However, when I resize these images in Photoshop, it produces very high quality images.
This needs to be done programatically, is there an option to buy an SDK from Adobe where we can programatically resize these images on the fly?
Basically, we need to use the same mechanism that photoshop uses to resize images, because it does a wonderful job of preserving the image quality, but we need programatic  access to it.
    Thanks,
    Raman

The SDK is free, and downloadable by anyone.
But it sounds like all you need is an action and the batch command, or a javascript -- which don't require the SDK.
But these are not libraries - they use the Photoshop application.
There are no libraries to do what Photoshop does.

  • Photoshop will not resize images

As of today, PSE will not resize images for me.  I typically use PSE for this function and am familiar with it.
I thought it might have been the windows update that occurred last night, so I restored my system earlier, but it does not help.  I still can't resize images.  Any thoughts?  Thanks.

    Operating system?
    PSE version?
What are the exact steps you're doing?
What are the details of what's happening when you try?

  • AppleScript PhotoShop Resize Times Out?

    Hi all,
I've found what seems to be a pretty decent image resize applescript to use with photoshop cs3, but every time I try to use it, it just hangs on the sizing image dialog box. Anybody have any suggestions?
    tell application "Adobe Photoshop CS3"
    activate
    -- set parameters
set my_files to choose file with prompt "Choose some files" default location (path to desktop) with multiple selections allowed
set destination_folder to choose folder with prompt "Choose destination folder" default location (path to desktop)
set destination_path to destination_folder as string
set sizeofthumbnail to text returned of (display dialog "Set size of thumbnail" default answer "100")
set sizeofthumbnail to sizeofthumbnail as integer
set output_quality to text returned of (display dialog "Set quality of final output" default answer "60")
set output_quality to output_quality as integer
    -- for each file
    repeat with my_file in my_files
set original_extension to name extension of (info for my_file)
    open my_file showing dialogs never
set my_doc to the current document
set original_name to the name of my_doc
set doc_width to width of my_doc
set doc_height to height of my_doc
    if doc_width > doc_height then
    set new_width to sizeofthumbnail
    set new_height to round (doc_height * (new_width / doc_width))
    else
    set new_height to sizeofthumbnail
    set new_width to round (doc_width * (new_height / doc_height))
    end if
resize image my_doc width new_width height new_height resample method bicubic sharper
    tell current document
    export in live_folder as save for web with options {class:save for web export options, web format:JPEG, quality:target_quality}
    close saving no
    end tell
    end repeat
    end tell
    -- finishing touches
    tell application "Finder"
    activate
    open folder destination_folder
    beep
    end tell

I commented out the export line (I don't have CS3, only an old version of CS) and it seems to work fine. the problem, then, is with the export line, and (at a guess) the issue might be the odd way you've specified the document. instead of using the export command in a document tell block, try 'export current document in live_folder as...' and see if that helps.

  • Convert image file names to labels and resizing images according to frame. Possible??

    Hi all,
I have posted this question hastily in the main mac forum but then i realized it is a scripting question so I repost here.
Q1: I have a client with 700+ images who has named the images with numbers and the caption:
eg: 1.II.34. Walking down the road towards the building.tiff
This is the name of the image file itself
Is there a way to import the name of the file (possibly without the extension) and place it as a caption under the image without copying and pasting? A script maybe?
I tried the labelgraphics script. Unfortunately it returned the extension as well. I was given a solution but did not work for me since it deleted everything after the first dot on the name. This was:
in labelgraphics on line 105, change
    myLabel = myLink.name
    to
    myLabel = myLink.name.split('.')[0]
So how can we tackle this so it deletes everything after the LAST dot?
Q2: The image files I am given are all huge tiff files. I use the full 100% of the images but in my document they have to be much smaller . They are usually scaled down to 25-35% of the original file. So I end up with huge, unneeded documents.
Is there a script that would work together with photoshop maybe?
It would need to read the frames dimensions the image is in, open the linked file inside photoshop, resize it with a specified interpolation to maybe 110% of the frame's dimensions, set the resolution (if not set) to 300 dpi save the image as a copy (or with a suffix or prefix), leave photoshop open (for the next image to be processed), relink to the new image and go to the next image
I know it sounds a lot but I was amazed by the issues people handle in this forum and thought I would give it a try
    Thank you in advance
    Michael

Peter thank you so much. It works like a charm.
As for Q2, I spent some time doing research and came up with a couple of scripts that sound like they could do the trick.
    a) Image Transform or Rasterize
    http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/exchange/index.cfm?event=extensionDetail&loc=en_us&extid=1509 022#
    b) Resample Project Images to 100%
    http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/exchange/index.cfm?event=extensionDetail&loc=en_us&extid=1612 518#
Still, since I am such an ignorant I do not know which one would be the proper one.
Any suggestions would be highly appreciated.
    Thank you once more
    Michael

  • Resizing images

I am using Photoshop CS (older version).
I am having a problem with resizing images. Prior to sending this, everything was working okay and now nothing will resize. my file path was file menu > automate > batch > and then I would choose my source and destination for the resized images. In the end, all the newly resized images would stay the same size as before. Can someone please help me with this???

    Neil,
Have you selected the "resizing" action in the Batch dialog?

  • Still Frame altered in Photoshop resizes in iMovie

    Hello,
When I export a still frame as a pict file from iMovie and then edit that still frame in photoshop (resaved as a pict file), the file imports back into iMovie resized. It enlarges a bit more than the previous still frame. Does anyone know how to avoid this resize issue?
    Thanks for any help

I am not at home now to verify or play with it first hand, but if I was to take a guess it would probably be because of the 640 vs. 720 conversion iMovie does behind the scenes with the horizontal pixels. See TVs use rectangular pixels while computers use square pixels. TV pixels are slightly taller than wide or put another way, the pixels are thinner than on a computer. So 720 thin TV pixels equal about 640 square computer pixels. What iMovie does is it will show you everything on your screen as 640 horizontal pixels so everything looks correct (height to width ratio looks right and nothing is stretched or squished), but really everything in iMovie is 720 pixels wide because that is the format needed for standard TV sets.
So because of this, and since Apple wants everything very simple for this application, when you import still images, it expects 640x480 (for North American TV; PAL has a different vertical size), which it then will (behind the scenes) convert to 720 thin/TV pixels. If you import something other than that, iMovie will resize accordingly.
OK so here is what I am not sure of but am speculating might be going on but can not check at the moment. When you select a frame and export that frame as a still image, I am guessing you really are getting a 720x480 image. This would be noticeable when opened in your image editor in that the image should now look a bit stretched out horizontally (yes, the camera really does add 10 lbs!). Now you do your edits, save the image which is still 720x480. When you import this image back to iMovie, it sees 720, is expecting 640 and resizes accordingly, so your image ends up pinched in (gets thinner). So on the screen it will tend to look like it got taller, when in fact it instead got pinched from the sides. Is that what you are seeing?
Again I am only guessing here and maybe saving a still out of iMovie gives you a 640x480, in which case none of what I said above applies.
However if it all sounds correct above, then the solution is after you open the file in Photoshop, resize it and this is one of those rare times where you actually want to UNCHECK the box that keeps the ratio of the photo the same. So now you tell it to resize from 720 to 640 but not to change the 480 dimension. Your photo should now look normal (not stretched out) and after editing, saving, and re-importing to iMovie should look correct.

  • Does anyone resize images to fit InDesign Rectangle Frame tool?

My question is based on some booklets that we have created in the past. We have some very large images all 300 ppi, but when shrunk down they tend to have an effective ppi of 500 or greater. Part of me feels that when the effective dpi is large, that I should go back into photoshop and resize those images, hopefully saving the size of the PDF file after exporting. So, my questions are one, does anyone even resize images anymore to fit the rectangle frame to keep ppi around 300 or two, do they not do this anymore and let InDesign handle this process when exporting to PDF?
    Thanks Everyone,
    Mike

Better quality is to resize in Photoshop and sharpen there, because InDesign has no choice of the method of sharpening. But to be honest, in the majority o cases I do resampling in InDesign when exporting to PDF.

  • A way to resize images so that all are the same size??

I've got a minor complaint about InDesign going all the way back to version 1.0. I have a bunch of square images that I want to drop into a layout and then resize so that they're all the same size, e.g 2 inches wide (constrained height) or something. However, all the tools I've tried to make this work only resize all the images by percent, so the ones that started out larger are still too large. Its frankly a huge source of stress, since there's no easy "Actions" palette as in Photoshop and I don't want to resort to real scripting. Can anyone tell me if there's a way to resize images absolutely in the layout?
    Thanks in advance!

Change your first frame using the control panel's H and W fields. Then
select the rest of the frames and use the object>transform
    again>transform sequence again individually command.
But you'd really be better off creating one and then using step and
repeat to get them all correct. Use the frame fitting options before
placing any graphics and you'll be good to go.
