Photoshop 2014 painfully slow?
So I've searched around and seen solutions such as 'update to most recent version', 'disabling smart guides' and ways on getting back the previous CC version of Photoshop.
Updated to most recent version today, and began using for the first time. Slow as molasses. I've disabled smart guides but it's no help. I'm using the older version for the time being but I'd rather be able to use the most updated version with it's added features. Are people still having problems with this or am I on my own?
Thanks in advance.

Photoshop 2014 very slow?
When updating to photoshop cc 2014, it's been extremely slow. I'm on a mac tower, running os x mavericks with 2 x 2.4 quad-core intel zeon processors, 12 gb of ram and a 1024 ati radeon hd graphics card. I've never had an issue before. The efficiency on photoshop says it's 33%. I turned off smart guides, increased the ram allocation and nothing seems to work. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Photoshop running painfully slow!
need some help, I just built a brand new computer, and it should be cap[able of running all the adobe apps. However when it comes to photoshop, it basically dies.
I am trying to render out a raw video but won't open the menu settings to get it going. The loading bar just keeps spinning and loads what i needed after about 10-20 minutes.
The build is: i7-5820k 3.3ghz
8gb Ram
650gb hd currently (its about 4 years old)
msi x99s-sli motherboard
gtx-560ti graphics card
I have set the preferences to use 7gb of the ram. Surely it shouldn't be a problem?
Please help!Your graphics card driver was just update on 23-DEC-2014 to 347.09

Photoshop CS5.5 extended and XP sp3 PAINFULLY SLOW
I've reinstalled Photoshop to clear up the errors.
Windows XP is fully updated.
Disk is regularly cleaned and defragged
But working in Photoshop is PAINFULLY slow with lots of processes just hanging for several minutes. Mini-bridge will sometimes completely fail.
Running on a 1.73 GHz Intel Pentium(r) processor with 2.00 gb RAM and 40g free working space.
is this box just too old and powerless for PS to function well on it?
thanks for any suggestions.
eAs Noel mentions, the 2GB RAM is not going to be able to handle all that much, and with only 40GB of HDD space left, you have a bottleneck there too. First, PS's Scratch Disks will be limited, and also your Windows Virtual Memory (Page File) will need free, defragmented space to take up the slack, from the lack of RAM. My guess would be that you left the Page File on the default, and that it is being dynamically managed, so it grows and shrinks, as is needed.
When a HDD gets neare 70% capacity, it begins to slow down. The closer to capacity it gets, the slower it gets, and the closer to a failure it gets.
From a BftB (Bang for the Buck) standpoint, more RAM would be a good first step, and an additional HDD would be the next. Both RAM and HDD's are quite cheap nowadays, and in cases like this, their impact can be great. For the HDD, you would probably want to clean up C:\, storing some "stuff" onto your new D:\ (or whichever drive letter is assigned), and then locate your PS Scratch Disks there too.
Good luck,

After Photoshop CC 2014 update - Photoshop is very slow (Windows 7)
After updating today to the latest photoshop cc2014 Version, Photoshop starts very slow and is not useable.
I updated from V. 2014.1.0 to 2014.2.1 20141014.r.257.
Starting Photoshop Needs 6 minutes (before 1.5 minutes). The menue and button reactiontime is more than slow, you cant work with this Setup.
Is there a Problem with the new release?
And please Adobe, dont tell me, my System has a problem. Did only an update on the CC2014 Suite via creative cloud. Old PS Version (2014.1.0)runs great.
After testing a few time, I recovered my System back to Version 2014.1.0 with Windows recovery and Photoshop works good again.
So whats wrong with the new release?
My PC config:
Adobe Photoshop Version: 2014.2.1 20141014.r.257 2014/10/14:23:59:59 CL 987299 x64

WernerThe CC 2014 update 2014.2.1 is a month old and ACR 8.7 is two days old. Something strange is happening to you. First try resetting your Photoshop Preferences. This is a Adobe Photoshop User forum your not dealing with Adobe here. You seem to think you are and your attitude seems like you not open to to possibility that your system may have a problem. I think you may have one..

CS5 Flash and Photoshop painfully slow
I recently moved from CS4 Master Suite to CS5 Master Suite. I work with all files on a home based network drive. The CS4 handled most all tasks easily. The CS5 is painfully slow.
Publish Previewing a very small Flash file with no action script and 3 button rollovers takes 3-6 minutes to view. Opening a 1100x730px jpg in Photoshop takes 1-2 minutes and saving it is almost as slow. Ironically, Fireworks opens the same jpg in half the time.
About my set up: the network drive and a desktop PC are plugged into a Linksys G wireless router. The desktop has the same problems as both laptops in really slow Adobe tasks. None of my other programs struggle with network tasks and the CS4 Master Suite handled it fine.
Any clue why CS5 Master Collection would perform basic tasks so much slower than CS4 Master Collection using the same network?I guess your project is quite complex (filesize for starters, maybe complex vector artwork, lots of keyframes etc.). When you save your project, Flash has to process all the objects and do the actual writing to the disc. What you can do, is break the document into smaller, separate *.fla files. You can export them as *.swf and load them at runtime or export them as *.swc libraries and include them at compile time.

Photoshop performance very slow using keyboard move + nudge
I have a small file (24mb), that has a lot of layers. All of a sudden, moving a simple element (vector shape line layer, for example) takes 3-4 seconds to move 10px from the time of the keyboard press. This is very laggy, and frustratingly slow. New PS docs seem to be fine. My history and cache is set to tall and thin.
This feels exactly like a very old problem Photoshop had back in CS6. My last version of PS 2014 seemed fine.
I have a late 2013 Retina MacBook Pro, 16gb of ram, SSD drive with 80% free space.
Any ideas?Hi Chris. So no suggestions? The file is 35mb. Photoshop says it is running at 100% efficiency. Moving any element is via command + arrow keys is painfully slow. 3-5 seconds to complete before you can move again. Layer previews are turned off. Impossible to work like this.

PAINFULLY slow- can take 4 min to infinity to change tabs!
I have a late 2008 MacBook Pro (original unibody MBP) that's running PAINFULLY slow! I used to be able to run 2 browsers with 15 tabs each, Photoshop, and word all at once. Over the last couple months, I can have as little as a browser with a few tabs and it grinds to a halt. I can simply click on a tab, or on a drop down menu, and I'll get the spinning beach ball for 4 or 5 minutes. Even cmd-opt-esc is unresponsive. Then, minutes later, it'll instantly execute anything I commanded over the last several minutes. Firefox seems to be the worst offender, but it can happen no matter what's running. It can happen immediately after rebooting, too (I used to only have to reboot every few weeks, now it's several times per day)
CPU load is 98% idle after it catches up, but once it catches up and the graph refreshes and I can see it was about 60% user load and 15% system while it was choking on the monumental task of opening the "File" drop-down menu
There are 482 threads and 129 processes.
This is the original unibody Mac with 2.4 ghz core 2 duo. It's been upgraded with 4GB of ram (2.7 used) and a 1TB hard drive. I did those upgrades 2 years ago and they've worked fine until recently. Clicking "get info" on the HD says 333 GB are free, but under "about this mac" it says 121 GB are free and 211 are used for "backup". I'm running OS-X 10.9.2 and it says there are no updates to install.
I've reset system manager
I've reset PRAM
I've fixed disk permissions.
No effect
I know I don't have the speediest machine, but even a mid-80's mac could smoothly handle a drop-down menu, and this is a recent problem. I'm at a loss here, guys. Any idea? My computer is quickly becoming unusable!Great- Thanks! Here's the info...

Wow, that's a lot of data for you to sift through, but I suppose you know what you are looking to find. I bet you earned every one of those points. Thanks, Linc. All the folks in the world waiting for me to share their photos with them thank you as well : ) Cathleen -
Photoshop CS6 extremely slow response times on Mavericks?
It sounds like a lot of people are having issues with Mavericks. I was happy as a clam with CS4, but a hard drive replacement - with the latest OS - forced me into CS6 (I have a subscription) a few months ago. Since then, it's been like simming in quicksand...
I've spoken with several reps, and they figured out that some of the issues were due to a bad user account. That's all fixed now, but it's still taking several minutes to become 'responsive' if I step away from the program for any length of time. Even if I just go to check email. It can take two minutes (or more) for the keys to become active.
It feels like I've disabled nearly everything off Photoshop, and it doesn't seem to matter if it's a complex multi-layered file or a screenshot PNG. It's all just painfully slow.
Can anyone suggest some tricks to get back my old' speed?Moving this discussion to the Photoshop General Discussion forum.
Designforretail do you meet or exceed the system requirements for Photoshop CS6 listed at System requirements | Photoshop - http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/policy-pricing/system-requirements-photoshop.html#main_ Photoshop_CS6_system_requirements? -
Brush and smudge tools painfully slow in CS5
I use CS5 on quad core 2.26ghz macpro with 32 gb RAM. It's a clean system, both cs5 and os10.6.6 updated. No extra plug-ins or fonts. I do have an extra video card installed for my raid 5 system. Only use photoshop on this computer. Using the healing brush or smudge tool is painfully slow. also moving layers around are slow. I work on 10-15GB files. My assistant works on my old G5 with 8gb of ram and since it's not an intel he's still working in CS2. Using the healing brush on a 4GB file is faster on the G5 in CS2 than on my Quadcore in CS5. What is going on here? how can I speed things up?
I have cache levels set to 7, cache tile sice to 1024.i have found that any mac pro i use - not all set up the same- if they have a nvidia card after a few hours of working there will be a slowdown of painting, cloning, smudging and screen redraw. I always have open gl off. adobe engineers have been helping now and then but no one has a solution. on the windows forum someone reportedly adjusted their video card settings to fix it. but on a mac we have to option to do that - that i know of. it is a big problem for me when using CS5 that I use CS3 when possible.

Macbook Pro running painfully slow
Hello,
I'm working on a MacBook Pro that's suddenly started to run painfully slow. I've repaired permissions, reset the PRAM, updated everything to Mavericks, and even though it might be running slightly faster, I'm still encountering the pinwheel every time I start anything up or really try to click on anything. I'm pasting my etrecheck info below. Any guidance is most welcome and appreciated!

Smart sharpen runs painfully slow
Hello,
On my current system and on my previous system smart sharpen runs PAINFULLY slow. It happened in CS3, CS5, and now with CC it often causes the Photoshop to stop responding and I have to force quit.
I currently have:
MacBook Pro Dual 2.5 GHz i7
8 GB 1333 DDR3 Ram
dual SSDs running Raid 0
OS 10.8.4
The rest of Photoshop seens to run OK, it's just Smart Sharpen that bogs down I'm usually working on 16 bit files that have gotten to be around 800MB-1.2GB by the time I get to sharpening.
Any pointers?????
ThanksI did a test on my machine to simulate your 60 megapixels image for the square root of 60 megapixel I came up with 7746x7746 Pixels. So I opened a new document 7746x7746 Pixels 16bit ProPhotRGB 300DPI. made it 25.82" square/ I added a spectrum gradient ant the added a lot of noise. my machine is 2Ghz dual 6 core xeons. It took Smart Sharpen 28 seconds to sharpen the image. Only CPU was being used no disk i/o little RAM user around 5GB for Photoshop all CPU during the 28 seconds used by Photoshop 30% of all 24 Processor threads.

Mid 2011 Macbook Air Painfully slow.
Mid 2011 Macbook Air Painfully slow.
Hey everyone. I am writing about my 13 inch Mid 2011 Macbook Air.
Recently it has been extremely slow and on occasion has not started up.
I have reset the PRAM and SMC already, yet it is still very slow. I have a couple theories about what might have caused it, are they plausible?
Theory 1: It’s a software problem. I tried to upgrade to 10.8.2 but halfway through the upgrade the computer restarted and somehow I was still on 10.8.1. For fear of a big issue happening I didn’t try to upgrade again. Perhaps it is a flaw in Apple’s software update?
The important thing to note about this update is that I tried to install 10.8.2 around a month or two weeks BEFORE I started having problems. So if these issues were due to 10.8.2’s failed update then it certainly was a delayed reaction.
I would of course like to update to 10.8.2 BUT as my computer is acting EXTREMELY slow and having trouble turning on occasionally I am worried the software update will completely brick the machine. Is that possible? Should I actually finish through with the software update?
Theory 2: It was an electricity problem.
The computer died when I was sitting at a café plugged into their wall sockets. A few days later when I came back to the same spot with my old macbook which is now being used in lieu of the Air it suddenly turned black for a little while. Sensing it might be an electricity surge or something with their system I unplugged the cable. I am not sure if that was paranoia though.
Can an electricity surge or a bad outlet fry a computer? Can it fry the ram so the computer is extremely slow? Does that theory hold any water?
Thanks for your help diagnosing this problem.
All the best. Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It won’t solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
Third-party system modifications are a common cause of usability problems. By a “system modification,” I mean software that affects the operation of other software — potentially for the worse. The following procedure will help identify which such modifications you've installed. Don’t be alarmed by the complexity of these instructions — they’re easy to carry out and won’t change anything on your Mac.
These steps are to be taken while booted in “normal” mode, not in safe mode. If you’re now running in safe mode, reboot as usual before continuing.
Below are instructions to enter some UNIX shell commands. The commands are harmless, but they must be entered exactly as given in order to work. If you have doubts about the safety of the procedure suggested here, search this site for other discussions in which it’s been followed without any report of ill effects.
Some of the commands will line-wrap or scroll in your browser, but each one is really just a single line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, and you can then either copy or drag it. The headings “Step 1” and so on are not part of the commands.
Note: If you have more than one user account, Step 2 must be taken as an administrator. Ordinarily that would be the user created automatically when you booted the system for the first time. The other steps should be taken as the user who has the problem, if different. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this paragraph doesn’t apply.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
When you launch Terminal, a text window will open with a line already in it, ending either in a dollar sign (“$”) or a percent sign (“%”). If you get the percent sign, enter “sh” and press return. You should then get a new line ending in a dollar sign.
Step 1
Copy or drag — do not type — the line below into the Terminal window, then press return:
kextstat -kl | awk '!/com\.apple/{printf "%s %s\n", $6, $7}'
Post the lines of output (if any) that appear below what you just entered (the text, please, not a screenshot.) You can omit the final line ending in “$”.
Step 2
Repeat with this line:
sudo launchctl list | sed 1d | awk '!/0x|com\.(apple|openssh|vix)|edu\.mit|org\.(amavis|apache|cups|isc|ntp|postfix|x)/{print $3}'
This time, you'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up. You don't need to post the warning.
Note: If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before taking this step. If that’s not possible, skip to the next step.
Step 3
launchctl list | sed 1d | awk '!/0x|com\.apple|edu\.mit|org\.(x|openbsd)/{print $3}'
Step 4
ls -1A /e*/mach* {,/}L*/{Ad,Compon,Ex,Fram,In,Keyb,La,Mail/Bu,P*P,Priv,Qu,Scripti,Servi,Spo,Sta}* L*/Fonts 2> /dev/null
Important: If you formerly synchronized with a MobileMe account, your me.com email address may appear in the output of the above command. If so, anonymize it before posting.
Step 5
osascript -e 'tell application "System Events" to get name of every login item' 2> /dev/null
Remember, steps 1-5 are all drag-and-drop or copy-and-paste, whichever you prefer — no typing, except your password. Also remember to post the output.
You can then quit Terminal. -
Open and Save dialogs are painfully slow. Is there a solution?
Open and Save dialogs are painfully slow. Is there a solution?
I pulled this part out of one of the topics Barney-15E linked to. It absolutely works! The glacially slow Finder response has been driving me batty in Mavericks. Each time I restarted, it would take forever to list the startup drive when I opened it. Open and Save dialogues were also painfully slow to respond. Now they all snap open and list instantly. I used TextWrangler to comment out the line in the file auto_master, then ran the automount command in Terminal.
Working workaround:
Use the following statements in Terminal.
sudo vi /etc/auto_master
In this file comment out /net with # (#/net .....)
sudo automount -vc
Fixed.
Confirmed here too both for Preview.app Open file sluggishness and Finder window population. Thanks Snaggletooh_DE!
Couple of notes:
(1) Some folks may be more comfortable using a GUI editor like TextWrangler instead of vi
a) in the Finder use the GO menu and select Go to Folder
b) type '/etc' ( without single quotes ) in the Go to folder dialog box and press the Go button
c) Right ( Control ) click the auto_master file in the resulting Finder window. Select "Open with...." and use TextWrangler ( your choice )
d) Comment out the line by inserting a '#' ( pound sign ) as noted in Snaggletooth_DE's instructions
e) Save the file ( probably need to authenticate with your admin password )
f) Do the 'sudo automount -vc' per Snaggletooth_DE's instructions. Will need to authenticate again.
(2) Notice Snaggletooth_DE described this as a "workaround" because it bypasses an Apple bug. Presumably most people have not changed their auto_master file and it worked fine in Mountain Lion and prior. In other words: If you haven't done so already, please continue to submit feedback and bug reports to Apple for this issue.
Kudos to Snaggletooth_DE for figuring out code is trying to look at network ( NFS ) volumes that maybe don't exist.
