Photoshop 6.0 installer will not start

Photoshop v6.0 (Venus in Furs)
PC OS: Windows XP and now Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit
An elderly relative has asked me for some help.
He has a CD of Photoshop v6.0 that was initially installed on his Windows XP computer. This worked well for a number of years until Microsoft ceased support for XP. He then purchased a new PC from a local PC supplier who backed-up all of his personal data and transferred it to his new machine that is running Windows 7 64bit. At the same time the technician installed his CD of Photoshop v6.0 which seemed to work well. He informs me that lately Photoshop seemed to be running slowly so he UN-installed it. Now when he tries to re-install it the install screen appears but when he clicks to install nothing happens. Initially there is some hard drive activity but no activity from the CD ROM drive. He has browsed the CD and clicked the install.exe but the problem is the same, no install. I am also assured that his CD/DVD RW drive is in fully working order.
Why won't Photoshop install?

Please have a look here:
Re: Any new help for the standard bug "Installer failed to initialize" for CS6?
Perhaps the same problem?

I have a new latop, and want to instal an old version of Photoshop elements 2.0 that I have. It will not start the instal process. Why?

It is probably because the software is too old to install/use on your new machine.  Look at the files on the disk and see if there are any there that you might try to use to initiate installation.

  • Adobe AIR Application Installation will not start

I purchased a program called Video Alchemy which requires Adobe AIR to run but the installation window will not display and the installation does not start.
The Adobe AIR log install log file can be found here https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/59423416/Install.log
Here is a link to the VideoAlchemy.exe install file https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/59423416/VideoAlchemy.exe
Can anyone help me to get this program to install?

Thanks for the reply and solution MrSykes.
I uninstalled adobe AIR and ran a file and registry cleaner to delete any left over files and installs.
Then installed the v.15 Adobe AIR beta as recommended.
The cleaners I used (ccleaner & jv16 power tools) did find some temporary install files and remnants of the Video Alchemy install.
Tried the install again and still no installation window displays.
I'm running Windows 7 on my PC and even changed the installation file compatibility to Windows XP service pack 2 to no avail.
Funny that it installed fine on my notebook with Adobe AIR latest version running Windows 7.
I'm watching task manager as I'm attempting the install and videoalchemy.exe has some cpu usage then drops to zero activity.
Then Adobe AIR application Installer starts up then cycles to zero cpu activity.
I'm stumped on this one :-(
Thanks again for investing the time on my behalf.

  • PhotoShop CS5 (PS CS5) will not start

While configuring PS CS5, I removed the check
mark on my c:\scratch disc because I do not want
scratch files running on my systems disk. I kept
the scratch disks on my e:\, k:\, and g:\ drives and
configured them to be used in that order by PS
    CS5.
After completing the configuration, I restarted PS
CS5. Now, when PS CS5 starts the initialization
process and begins to load the scratch disks, the
    startup routine fails.
I get a dialog box with an Adobe Photoshop CS5
Extended error box, which contains a red circle
with an X that indicates an error, and the message
"Could not open a scratch file because the file is
locked or you do not have the necessary
privileges. Use the 'Properties' command in
Windows Explorer to unlock the file."
First the dialog box does not name the file to
unlock, so I do not know which file suffix indicates
what is and what is not a scratch file. Secondly, I
do not want to use my system drive, c:\, for a
scratch disk. Finally, how do you configue PS CS5
to properly restart, after the scratch disk
configuration is changed, after installation? This
seems to be the primary problem and I have never
observed it in any other release.

The other problem is that there does not appear to be any means to make a scratch drive on any drive, unless you also make one on the system drive, which is c:\. If you do not make a scratch drive on c:\, you will get the same error that I posted about.
Hi Luther, what you say isn't the normal case.  I actually have my scratch drive pointed at D: only and don't see the problem you are seeing.
It still sounds as if Photoshop cannot write to your other drive.  These kinds of problems can arise if a disk is moved from a system to another system, or if a different user sets up the system initially.
Do you see the problem if you start Photoshop via "Run as Administrator" (as Kathleen suggested above), or temporarily reduce your UAC level?
Keep in mind you're not actually running with privileges on Windows 7, even though your account may be an administrator account.  You have to elevate the privileges (or disable UAC, which has some downsides if you don't fully understand the security model).

  • Exchange Server 2013 installer will not start or complete

    Hello,
I am trying to MS Exchange Server onto a Windows Server 2012R2 with Active Directory network. I had started an installation process and it shot out a list of pre-requisites that server need before it can attempt to install. I fulfilled every pre-requisite.
Rebooted the server. Now whenever I attempt another installation process again. It starts, gathers information, and quits with event log:
Windows Installer installed the product. Product Name: Microsoft Exchange Server. Product Version: 15.0.516.32. Product Language: 1033. Manufacturer: Microsoft Corporation. Installation success or error status: 0.
MS Exchange Server is not listed in Programs and Features to even remove, is it a faulty Microsoft Installer? I have already rebooted numerous times to no avail.
EDIT: Here's a copy of the MSI log, I couldn't find anything to indicate what's going wrong myself, http://pastebin.com/LwCAimuF

    Hi,
I've downloaded (as per instructions above):
Microsoft Exchange Server 2013 Service Pack 1 (SP1)
    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=41994
Again, the installer repeats the same behavior as before, right now I am running a repair tool on .Net repair tool.
    New log http://pastebin.com/SDynMaDe
Edit: Looks like there's long list of issues trying to fulfill Exchange Pre Requisite.
    Windows Management Framework 4.0

It would probably be best to re-install Windows Server again

  • BusinessObjects 4.1 Sp2 Client Tool setup Installer will not Start

    Hi Everyone
Have installed BOE 4.1 sp2 server platform on a virtual machine running on Windows Server 2008 R2.  When I  tried to install the Client tools,   I execute the setup.exe program, it launches the run, when I click on  runs, nothing comes up.
Any suggestion I will really appreciate it.
    Thanks

OK.  I think I may have misled you.  We tried installing BI4.0 on SQL Server 2012 and that didn't work (not supported according to the Supported Platforms documentation).  I just looked at the Supported Platforms document for BI4.1 and it shows the Client Tools should be supported on Server 2008, Server 2008 R2 and Server 2012.
I'll try installing them and let you know.  We would like to have them on the server also.

  • Premiere Elements 11 installation will not start

    Hi Folks,
The process stops when it gets to the installshield wizard window.  I get a green progress bar, then the spinning mouse pointer pops up and the window dissapears.  Shortly after that,  the spinning mouse pointer goes away and nothing happens.
I checked as many forum posts as I could find, and did the following:
-read my troubleshooting logs - no errors listed
-made sure I installed to C drive
-updated windows patches (windows 7 64bit machine)
    -deleted temporary files
-set up a new user account for the install, with admin privledges
    -rebooted numerous times
I have tried to reinitiate the process using the  setup.exe file in the root directory, but it also fails to progress.
Please note this was a download purchase.  Download worked fine, extraction seems to have worked fine also (deleted and tried entire process twice just to see if there was a fluke first time around)
My PC specs are more than what is required by the program, and there is tons of space on my hard drive.
Any ideas?  I am running out of options.
    Thanks for any help.

  • Photoshop and premiere elements will not start

If there has been an answer, I apologize for asking, I'm haven't gotten any answers from adobe chat and have reached frustration!
I have photoshop and premier elements 9 on windows 7. They worked fine for about a year then both recently stopped working, they didn't open. So I uninstalled and reinstalled from the disk and they worked.
A few days later, the same story. They stopped opening. I've only installed the programs on this one computer.
I could reinstall again and see if that works, but I think there is a 2 computer license which I might have reached since I couldn't deactivate before reinstalling because I couldn't access the program. It also seems silly to reinstall every time I need to use it.
    All ideas appreciated!
    Anne

Bypass the Unwelcome Screen by creating Desktop shortcuts for the Organizer and the Editor, and restarting your computer.
    The Editor's executable is:
    "C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 10\PhotoshopElementsEditor.exe"
    The Organizer's executable is:
    "C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Elements 10 Organizer\PhotoshopElementsOrganizer.exe"
The Unwelcome Screen leaves a zombie process running which prevents the actual program from launching again.

  • Installation Will Not Start

Just upgraded to snow leopard and trying to install xp on my old macbook.
I followed the instructions and the book restarted from the windows disc but it only gets as far as the WELCOME TO SETUP blue screen. From there, I cannot choose enter, r or f3. It has just been sitting on this blue death screen for 90 minutes with the fan running. Shut down only by holding the power button.
    Any help?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
this seems to happen sometimes with MB and MBPs.
If you, connect an USB-keyboard and mouse and retry the XP installation.
After successful installation install the BootCamp Drivers from your OSX install DVD.
After all went well, you can disconnect the external keyboard/mouse and use the internals.

  • FP Install Will Not Start after DLM Install

The FP installation will not start after an apparent DLM installation.  The DLM appears to install and the control panel shows it is present, but the FP installation will not start.  There are no other messages that appear.  A restart and reinstallation attempt installs the DLM again, but still no FP install.  Using XP SP3 and IE 8.0.
    Thx

    Hi mont1228,
The Adobe Download Manager (DLM) executes the Flash installer in "silent mode" so you shouldn't see a dialog box.  To confirm that Flash was installed successfully, go to http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/ and let me know if the animation doesn't appear.

  • Organiziser in Photoshop Elements 9 will not start in Windows 8.1. Inkompartibelt programs.  What to

    Hej!
Organiziser in Photoshop Elements 9 will not start in Windows 8.1. Inkompartibelt programs.
    What to do?
    /yoel

Ok, I had many problems with the installation, but after three attempts I've got it working. This might work with a previously failed installation - but there are other guides in the forum to get this position -thanks also to the many threads on the this - which pointed me in the right direction
Previously I'd had issues with Error 1935, (on Shared Technologies), Blue screens due to clbudf.sys from Cyberlink Instant burn which blue screened (thread abort exception) this install as also iTunes. (I haven't installed this now...
    My scenario. Win 7 (clean) -> Win 8 -> Win 8.1
After setting up the setting up the system.
I ensured the following : (although begrudingly) so I could do a system restore if needed.
    -I disabled Anitvirus & Firewall
    -enabled Volume Shadow Copy Service
I then ensured I had downloaded Adobe Application Manager 8.0 (read this may help) - I installed - but I did not run it as I believe it updates to Adobe CC Manager( from previous attempts)
i also downloaded and installed the 32 bit versions of :
    C++2008 redistributable (32 bit)
    C++2008 SP1 redistributable (32 bit)
I installed Premiere Elements (64 bit) - note I had previously installed Sony Vegas 10 Platinum, which downloaded and installed NET 3.5/Net 2.0 adding to windows features, which many have helped - not sure.
I installed Photoshop Elements (32 bit)
I started both apps and updated them to 12.1.
Happy ... finally - hope this helps others - or at least helps adobe improve their installer, diagnose the issue for others.

    Hi,
I meant create a new user account on your laptop. There are some settings that are stored on a per user basis so creating a new user may clear a setting.
However, that may not help in your case - I have been trying to help someone else and got your two problems mixed up.
The only reason that I had the editor fail before was resolved by running the disk cleanup and check tools.
As you have returned the product, you could try installing the trial version. If you get it to work, then you may be able to buy a boxed version from Amazon or similar. I'm not sure where you are but the boxed version can often be on special offer from the big stores at a cheaper price.

    Hello, Jdragone.
Thanks for the question.  Start with completely uninstalling iTunes and all of it's components in the order specified in the article below.  Once this is done, download and install iTunes.
Removing and reinstalling iTunes and other software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8

If you receive any errors when uninstalling any components of iTunes, try the steps in the article below for each component that gives you an error.
"The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable" alert appears when removing Apple software in Windows

  • Help! After interrupting an installation of a program downloaded from the internet on my mac in a reboot cycle will not start, I've already done the disk check and it's ok and I reinstalled the OS 10.8 Lion

After interrupting an installation of a program downloaded from the internet on my mac in a reboot cycle will not start, I've already done the disk check and it's ok and I reinstalled the OS 10.8 Lion

In this case, I think that there's something damaged that can't be fixed just reinstalling OS X.
If you don't want to lose files, you will have to create a second partition in the hard drive and install OS X there, so you will be able to recover everything you need. Then, you will have to erase the first partition and reinstall OS X. Follow these steps:
    1. Hold Command and R keys while your Mac is starting to start into OS X Recovery, and open Disk Utility.
    2. You can follow the steps of this site to create a second partition > http://pondini.org/OSX/DU3.html
    3. After creating the second partition, close Disk Utility and install OS X on the second partition.
    4. When the installation finishes, open Finder and, in the sidebar, you will see the other partition. Open it and recover the files you need.
    5. After doing that, repeat the step 1.
    6. Select “Macintosh HD” in the sidebar, go to Erase tab and erase the disk.
    7. Close Disk Utility and install OS X on the first partition.
After doing all of these steps (you will need a lot of time to do this), you can delete the second partition you created and add the size of this partition into the first one > http://pondini.org/OSX/DU4.html
