Photoshop 7.0 and Leopard OS X 10.5

Now that I have my new MacBook Pro and realizing that my thousands of dollars of Adobe software doesn't work in Leopard, I need to be able to edit my photo's, without spending another few hundred dollars just to edit jpg's, does anyone know of an app I can get realitively inexpensive?

In order of price here are some suggestions:
Seashore (free)
Graphic Coverter ($45 approx)
Acorn ($50 approx)
Photoshop Elements ($75 approx)
There are many, many other options. Search on MacUpdate.
For the money you’ll not beat Photoshop Elements. Unless you’re dealing in high-end pre-press it’ll do anything you need.

  • Photoshop Elements 6 and Leopard

    Hi all,
I would like to get Photoshop Elements 6 for a photo buff friend of mine. I have seen several reviews of the software that say that the install process for PSE 6 is a nightmare on Leopard and perhaps to consider another photo editing software.
Does anyone have any experience or know anything about PSE 6 being installed and used on Leopard?
    Thanks in advance.
    Dennis

I have Leopard and PE6 and had no difficulty installing it. The only problem was with 'Bridge', which turned out to be a conflict with a file installed by the 'Opera' browser:
    Users/[username]/Library/Application Support/Opera/Widgets/widgets.dat
If you have been using Opera you should remove this and note that if you run Opera again it will reinstall it. Earlier versions of Opera are OK. The presence of this file caused Bridge to hang when selecting 'Home'.
Since removing that file I have had no problems whatever with PE6.

  • Photoshop 7.0 and Leopard

I recently installed Leopard to my imac. I have Adobe Photoshop 7.0. When I tried to open photoshop after installing Leopard, I get the following error message. "An unexpected and unrecoverable problem has occurred because of a program error. Photoshop will now exit." Now everything I created in photoshop gets the same message when I try to open it. I'm thinking I need to upgrade my photoshop program to Photoshop CS. When I look up the system requirements it says Mac os 10.4. Will this solve my problem or are my files lost forever?

Photoshop 7 is not compatible with Leopard and Adobe has no plans to release an update. You'll have to upgrade.

  • Photoshop CS and Leopard

I've read contradictory reports about CS and Leopard. I know Adobe wasn't going to do anything to improve compatibility, but there could have been issues with earlier versions of Leopard. So I'd like to bring this question up again. I gather that CS will "run," which is more than PS 7 will do, but are there any significant issues?
    Thanks.

I use File-->Open all the time, and it appears to work just fine for PhotoShop CS under Leopard.
The problem isn't so much that I **can't** use File-->Open, it's that I've routinely used File-->Browse over many years to quickly view thumbnails and file information of related shots (mostly jewelry photos for my wife's website).  So the risk of losing 30-60 minutes' work by absent-mindedly selecting a menu item that I've gotten in the habit of using is non-trivial...

Thanks for the info!  My first task will be reinstalling PhotoShop CS, but after that I'll definitely look into Onyx.

I'm aware that PhotoShop CS and CS2 are noted as having known incompatibilities with Leopard.  Not surprising:  they were both released before Leopard, so incompatibilities are to be expected.
I'm also aware that CS3 is no longer officially available.  Upgrading to CS4 would be problematic for a different reason though:  the system requirements state that it requires either a G5- or Intel-based Mac, and mine's a dual-G4.  So I either upgrade to CS3 -- which is compatible with both Leopard and a dual-G4 -- or I risk attempting an upgrade to CS4, which is not officially supported on my Mac and might not even install.

  • Upgrading to Leopard; Installing Photoshop 5.5 and Upgrading to CS2

    Hello,
I currently have Panther running on my MAC and I want to upgrade it to Leopard. I originally had Adobe Photoshop 5.5 and had upgraded to Photoshop CS, then to Photoshop CS2 on my MAC running Panther. If I upgrade my MAC to Leopard, do I go through the same process? ...install Photoshop 5.5 then install my Photoshop CS2 Upgrade?
I know that I will need to deactivate/transfer activation before uninstalling Photoshop CS2 and activate after the Leopard Upgrade.
Any assistance/tips would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance!

    >Although we have reports of CS4 working on some G4 systems, it runs slowly
Not on my computer, Neil. CS4 runs faster than CS3. Of course, I'm running Tiger, and I take other precautions, outlined below.
Dual bootable, DP MDD 1.25GHz G4 (2004), maxed out at 2GB of RAM, both
    Spotlight and Dashboard disabled
, Photoshop primary scratch disk on dedicated 160GB internal drive, at least 100GB available on each of the four internal drives, up to 300GB on some. Counting external FW drives just over 1TB of drive space available. nVidia GeForce 7800 GS 425MHz 256 MB graphics display card. Processor napping enabled through CHUD 3.5.2.

  • Open Photoshop 3 files and convert to TIFF or JPEG --- on the cheap!

    Hello,
I have about a hundred large scans in PS3 format on DVD.
I never use PS or other pro photo SW; only iPhoto.
    My last PS is v7.
I run the latest Snow Leopard on my new MBP 17 iCore7.
All I want is to recover these files and convert them to the highest quality and most accessible format without having to spend my $, only my time.
Can anyone put me near this goal?
    ---h

I'm not sure what you mean by "PS3 format"--do you mean they are psd files that were created in Photoshop 3? As far as I remember Photoshop 3 simply created standard Photoshop files that, if one chose to have extensions (which you didn't have to way back then) had a .psd extension. If the files are indeed Photoshop files, but without the extension, you can simply copy them off the DVD and add the .psd extension to them. Preview will usually open psd files. I do have at least one VERY old psd file that Preview won't open, it displays a note in English and French, that Photoshop 3 is required. It does open with Photoshop Elements 8 and the free GIMP. Why it won't open in Preview I don't know, perhaps because it has three layers, two of which are text layers. Other psd files with layers DO open in Preview, although they often look a bit peculiar, and files with just one layer, created at the same time, open fine. Also, iPhoto will generally open psd files, and even display one with layers correctly (as if it had been flattened), but will not handle files with alpha channels very gracefully, nor will Preview. The GIMP has no problem with layers nor alpha channels.

  • Can I run Tiger and Leopard on the same computer

    Hi folks.
I've been meaning to install Leopard for ages but have never got round to it (I bought the retail box when it first came out). I have upgraded my RAM to 2GB and my hard drive to 320GB with no problems.
My upgraded hard drive has been partitioned into 2 equal parts of 160GB. These appear on desktop as Mackintosh HD1 and HD2. HD1 is the disk with all my files, music, OS etc and HD2 is empty
I have 2 bootable clones of my present system - one is on a 160GB external and the other is the original 80GB HD that I replaced.
My question is this - can I install Leopard on to my 160GB external HD, then clone it on to the empty HD2. If I do this would I be able to run both Tiger and Leopard on the same Macbook?
Is there any problems with this plan? Would I be able to transfer between the 2 OS and how do I install Leopard on the external drive. Is it just a case of inserting the Leopard DVD and choose the external drive as the target?
    As usual thanks in advance
    Del

    # Original Tiger in the internal HD, New Leopard in the external HD.
    # New Leopard in the internal, Legacy cloned Tiger in the external.
    # Split internal, one partition with Tiger, another with Leopard.
Leopard is backwardly compatible with older Macs, just make sure yours fulfills the minimum system requirements, both use the same filesystem format, so each can see the other. You can't run both at the same time, unless you purchase the server version of Leopard and run it virtualized. 99.9% of Firewire external HD's are bootable, some USB's are bootable but have to test first. You can choose which system to boot from by pressing the Option key at boot time, before the chime. Just make sure the external HDD is plugged in and turned on if that's where you want to boot from.
When I migrated my PBG4 from Panther to Tiger, got an external FW HDD, cloned Panther onto it, upgraded using Archive and Install, cleaned up, customized and tested it. When I was satisfied all was ok, cloned the original Panther onto another partition of the external HDD, wiped and tested for failure the internal HDD, then cloned the known good and tested Tiger into it. Only thing that died along the way was my old and ancient Photoshop v2.x, that refused to run on Tiger.

  • Droplet Script used to work fine in Tiger and Leopard, now doesn't

    Hey everyone,
I'd like to apologize in advance, I'm not really good with AppleScript and was only able to create my droplet in the first place by changing little bits of a Droplet example script I found on the internet (I forgot where I found it, but it might even have been here at Apple).
The script worked perfectly fine in Tiger and Leopard but throws an error in Snow Leopard. The error says "Can't make alias "...filepath... "into type file."
The problem is that I can't find the problem in my script. I don't get any indication which line it may be and I hope someone here will be able to help me.
I also tried Script Debugger, but the script works there! So that doesn't help either...
I'd appreciate any help, here is the script:

*set the item_info to info for this_item*
    I hope this help.

  • MacMini and Leopard

    Well!
I recently bought a MacMini because the motherboard on my eMac allegedly croaked. The replacement cost wasn't much more than a new mini so I figured, "what the heck." Then, I upgraded to Mac OS 10.5 the day after it became available.
Since installing Mac's new Leopard, I am no longer able to use my Canon 8400F Scanner or CanoScan scanning software, Photoshop Elements, Alsoft Diskwarrior, Lacie SilverKeeper and IMSI TurboCad. The menu bar and title bars in Safari display vertical lines that make text illegible and, worse yet, Apple Mail randomly stops downloading some of my mail from Road Runner. Yep, it stumped Road Runner, too.
You know, I wish they had a method for more thorough testing at the store level, because I am not convinced there was anything wrong with that eMac motherboard. With all the software I'm going to have to repurchase, I'm thinking about taking the eMac off the junk shelf and setting it up on my desk, again. I'm almost certain, at this rate, that there won't be much difference in productivity.
Now, let's see: I'm on Social Security. I don't make a lot of bread, but I feel certain that I can set aside a small amount each month to upgrade my software before the Social Security System goes belly up . . . . maybe.
For the present, however, can someone out there please tell me how to uninstall Mac OS 10.5 and downgrade to Max OS 10.4 without making a bigger mess than I am in right now.
    Thank you.

    Well, Da Brew,
Unfortunately, now that a higher version of Mac OS X is installed, the only way to downgrade is to *Erase & Install*.
You'll have to back up all your data, but this is not a problem as you already do that anyway.
_Running both Tiger and Leopard on your Mini:_
Since you're erasing everything, why not split your internal HD into two partitions,
install Tiger on Volume 1 and Leopard on Volume 2?
Use the Tiger DVD to partition HD (menu Utilities > Disk Utility),
    then install Tiger,
then install Leopard later on Volume 2.
    Good luck!
    Axel

  • Problems with CS3 and Leopard

Having a bit of a nightmare with Indesign and Photoshop CS3 since upgrading to Leopard. Running a Dual 2.5 GHz PowerPC G5 With 2GB DDR SDRAM. Anyone else having problems?

Below is the Adobe Marketing Line (copied verbatim). It's what I was told by Adobe Sales and what I read at Adobe.com, FAQ, before buying CS3 in October 07. Imagine my surprise when I discovered all of the issues with CS3 and Leopard, even after the update to Acrobat 8.1.2 Professional which promised full compatibility (see chart at bottom).
    Apple and Adobe... ARGH.
Oh yes, for all of the new suckers out there who are about to buy CS3 for their new Macs, the exact same FAQ is at Adobe.com, even now, Thursday, 12 Jun 2008.
ADOBE CREATIVE SUTIE 3 Frequently Asked Questions
Support for Mac OS X Leopard
    Q. Is Mac OS X Leopard (v10.5) important to Creative Suite 3 customers?
    A. Yes, Mac OS X Leopardthe latest version of Apples operating systemdelivers an elegant,
productive new computing experience for creative professionals. Adobe and Apple have been
collaborating closely for months to ensure that Adobe Creative Suite® 3 applications can run
smoothly and reliably on Mac OS X Leopard. We are proud to support this impressive new
operating system, and to ensure that our creative customers can take full advantage of the
performance and value of using Creative Suite 3 applications and Mac OS X Leopard on
    Intel-based and PowerPC Macs.
    Q. Are Adobe Creative Suite 3 applications compatible with Mac OS X Leopard (v10.5)? If
some are not fully compatible today, when will they be compatible?
    A. Thanks to close collaboration between Adobe and Apple, most of the CS3 applications and associated technologies, such as Adobe Bridge CS3, Version Cue CS3, and Device Central CS3, are compatible with Mac OS X Leopard without requiring additional updates. However, the following CS3 applications will require updates for full compatibility with Leopard: Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional and our professional video applications, including Adobe Premiere Pro CS3, After Effects CS3 Professional, Encore CS3, and Soundbooth CS3. We expect to publish free Leopard compatibility updates for the video applications in December 2007 and for Acrobat 8 Professional and Adobe Reader 8 in January 2008. For a complete overview of compatibility between Adobe creative applications and Mac OS X Leopard, see the chart on page 2 of this FAQ.
    Q. Will older versions of Adobe creative softwaresuch as Creative Suite 2 and
Macromedia Studio 8 softwaresupport Mac OS X Leopard?
    A. While older Adobe applications may install and run on Mac OS X Leopard, they were
designed, tested, and released to the public several years before this new operating system became available. You may, therefore, experience a variety of installation, stability, and reliability issues for which there is no resolution. Older versions of our creative software will not be updated to support Mac OS X Leopard. For a complete overview of compatibility between Adobe creative applications and Mac OS X Leopard, see the chart on page 2.
    Q. Will Adobe continue to test CS3 applications on Mac OS X Leopard?
    A. Yes. Adobe sets high standards of quality, stability, and reliability for our professional creative
products, and we have worked closely with Apple to test Creative Suite 3 applications on both pre-release versions and the final shipping version of Mac OS X Leopard. While this testing showed that most CS3 applications perform well on Leopard (and that others run well but need updates for a few identified issues), we recognize that other issues may unexpectedly arise on any new operating system. We plan to continue testing and to monitor user experience closely to address any such issues. If you encounter any issues, please report them by going to www.adobe.com/misc/bugreport.html and clicking Report
A Bug. Please note that we dont respond to submissions, but we do review them closely with the appropriate CS3 product teams.
    Q. Which CS3 applications will need patches to be compatible with Mac OS X Leopard?
    A. The following table summarizes compatibility between Adobe creative applications and Mac OS X Leopard. It notes which CS3 applications require updates for full Leopard compatibility and when Adobe expects to release those free updates.

  • FCS2 and Leopard?

    Hi again!
I have read and am still reading through lots of posts here on FCS2 or just FCP and Leopard.
I am purchasing a copy of FCS2 next week since my Academic version of FCP is not upgradeable.
This as you know is a decent investment. I am also tempted to upgrade to Leopard while I am at it.
I am not in the middle of anything crazy important right now and I figured this may be a good time to reformat my entire iMac and reinstall everything on Leopard. (also plan on getting iLife 08)
    question.
    Is this stable enough yet?
I am reading many posts where users have had issues. I am understanding that it may have been b/c of not doing a fresh install.
what is working as of right now?
b/c I don't want to do this in 6 months if I can do it right now.
    thanks in advance gurus.
    DROCK

I just did a clean install of Leopard on both my MacBook Pro and MacPro. Did a clean install of Final Cut 6 with all of the upgrades. In addition I run Adobe Master Suite on my MacPro. I did all of the Leopard upgrades, including Quicktime 7.4. I have not seen any issues to speak of. I first installed Leopard and did all of the upgrades. I followed with a "Repair Disk Permissions". Then I installed Adobe with all upgrades followed by Repair Disk Permission. Then I installed Final Cut with all upgrades followed by Repair Disk Permissions. Everything runs quite smooth. Leopard is quite nice actually and Spaces really helps with having so many windows open to do video projects.
I know of one open issue on Adobe Suite and that is Acrobat 8. There is a Leopard upgrade due the end of this month for that application. At the moment I don't need it so I just have not even started it. Photoshop and Illustrator have both been upgraded to work with Leopard and appear to work fine. I don't use After Effects much to date so I really can't speak to that.
There were posts of people using earlier versions of Final Cut on Leopard and Quicktime 7.4 with capture's longer than 10 minutes. I loaded up Final Cut and tried a 30 minute capture. Everything worked fine.

  • I lost my Photoshop 8 disc and need to replace it. Is that possible?

I lost my Photoshop 8 disc and need to replace it. Is that possible? Adobe says they no longer support Photoshop 8.

Unfortunately, photoshop cs will not run on mac os x 10.10 Yosemite, because photoshop cs is a PowerPC (type of processor) application and Yosemite uses an intel processor that can't run PowerPC applications.
(apple removed Rosetta after os x 10.6.8 snow leopard)
You can buy photoshop cs6 or subscribe to the creative cloud for photoshop cc 2014, if you want a version of photoshop that runs on your new operating system.

  • I'm trying to install a layer style (.asl) in photoshop cc 2014 and I get the error message 'Could not place the document 'filename.asl' because no parser or file format can open the file.' Any suggestions?

I get the same error when trying the same thing with the default styles, so it's not the file.

So, if you click on one on of the layer style sets already on the list, such as Text Effects 2, you get the same message?
Which version of mac os x are you using?
Did you upgrade your mac os with photoshop cc 2014 already installed?
Do you have the lastest version of photoshop cc 2014, which should be 2014.2.1

Do you see the same layer styles as shown above on your list?
Have you moved/copied any plugins from an earlier version of photoshop to the photoshop cc 2014 plugins folder?

  • How to install Photoshop 5.0 and more on a win8 pro computer?

    Installation problems
Since WinXP is out, I´m about to install all my ADOBE-programs to a new computer with op Win 8 pro.
I use some several generations of ADOBE-programs, and I want to use them on my new computer. The problem is the computer won´t install them.
Below I´ve listed which Collections I have these problems with.
    1) Adobe Publishing Collection: Photoshop 5.0, PM 6.5, Illustrator 8.0, GoLive 4.0, (+ some I don´t use any longer)
1a) Updates of the following programs to: Photoshop 5.5, PM 6.5 plus.
    2) Update to Creative Suite 2 Premium with: Acrobat 7.0, Photoshop CS2, InDesign CS2, GoLive CS2, Illustrator CS2, Version Cue CS2, Bridge, Content Viewer.
    3) Update to Creative Suite 5.5 Design Premium with: Acrobat 10, Bridge CS5.1, Device Central CS5.5, Dreamweaver CS5.5, Extension Manager CS5.5, Fireworks CS5.1, Flash Catalyst CS5.5, Flash CS5.5, Illustrator CS5.1, InDesign CS5.5, Media Encloser CS5.5, Photoshop CS5.1, Widget Browser CS5.5.
Creative Suite 5.5 Design Premium was able to install, with some Errors (9) and Warnings (61). The errors seems to be that the Shortcuts were missing. (eg not a problem: just to construct).
Creative Suite 2 Premium starts to install, but because it is an update version it asks for the original program, for instance Photoshop calls for Photoshop 5.0, and that CD will not be recognized. So CS2 programs can´t be installed!
Photoshop 5.5 installs and asks for the Photoshop 5.0-CD. Here the computer accepts the Photoshop 5.0-CD and it´s possible to complete the installation of Photoshop 5.5!!!
PM 6.5, and PM 6.5 Plus, can´t be run on a win 8 pro computer. It suggests a contact with ADOBE it there is a version that will work on a Win 8 mashine!
Publishing Collection-programs for instance Photoshop 5.0 can´t be run on a win 8 pro computer. It suggests a contact with ADOBE it there is a version that will work on a Win 8 mashine!
Of course many will find it odd why i will still be using the older versions. I´m used to them and I change between the versions because for some instructions the older programs are easier to use (some parts are really smarter than the newer versions).
Can anyone please help me with these problems?

some are so old you can expect problems.  the best you can do with pre cs2 apps is use compatibility mode when installing.
with cs2 apps, Error: Activation Server Unavailable | CS2, Acrobat 7, Audition 3
with cs3 to cs 5.5, follow the suggestions here, Use the CC Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems | CC, CS3-CS6

  • IPhoto with Adobe Photoshop Elements 4 and Adobe Bridge

I have not used iPhoto before now as I have been downloading photos from my Canon and Nikon cameras using their software. I have now moved everything into iPhoto but cannot find iPhoto using Adobe Bridge so I am unable to do any editing using Elements 4. Previously I could find the Canon and Nikon photos using Adobe Bridge. With a simple click on the relevant photo it opened up in Adobe Photoshop Elements 4 and I was able to edit it. Now using Bridge I simply cannot find iPhoto thus I cannot use PSE4. Can someone help before I go crazy ? I havde called Apple support but they have been unable to help me and suggested using Discussions@Apple

Many thanks for your quick response although, as a new iMac user, the mere mention of the word "corrupt" scares me ! I previously used a PC with Windows XP and PSE3 and loved being able to sort all my photos into albums with PSE3. Unfortunately the PSE4 which I have installed on my iMac doesn't let users sort their photos into albums and the only alternative is Adobe Bridge. I only recently started to use iPhoto after a visit to an Apple Store and it's great being able to catalog my photos so easily. Unfortunately PSE is far and away superior to any editing software that iPhoto has to offer. Anyway, I'll cross my fingers and try your suggestion first thing tomorrow morning.
