Photoshop 7 on iMac 10.5.8

Has anyone loaded Photoshop 7 successfully to the new iMac 10.5.8? Installed it but can't get it to run. It starts to initialize but says "unrecoverable problem occurred because of program error". I'm not real technical but can follow instructions. Any help is greatly appreciated! Mary

No. This is covered in the FAQs.
PS7 is also out of the upgrade path with the release of CS4 so you will need to pay full price if you want to use Photoshop on your new computer. Your other option is to keep using your old computer.

    First and last:  Don't!
    Always install from the original media (DVD or download from scratch.
    Migration or "transferring" will bring you nothing but grief.

  • Photoshop Elements &IMac/Snow Leopard

    I have had Photshop Elements 3.0 installed on my Imac running on Leopard and it has been problem free. I have recently installed Snow Leopard  and now I am having problems opening some photos from IPhoto. When I have Iphoto set to edit in Elements but when I click on some photos I get the message "could not complete your request because it is not the right kind of document". It seems to be fairly random which photos this happens with as they are all of the same type and mostly donloaded from the same camera. O have re-installed Elements but the problem persists.
    Can anyone help/

    Barbara - Thank for the tip. I have also found a way round the problem. It
    seems that the only photos I can't open are those that have had no
    enhancements or adjustments made to them in either Photoshop or Iphoto so it
    wasn't random after all. If I can't open a photo I just need to make any
    slight adjustment to it in Iphoto and then it it is possible to open it in
    Photoshop. It is a bit of a pain as you have to keep changing the edit in
    Iphoto preferences but it seems to work.
    Thanks again.

  • Needing Help with color setting for Photoshop 4 + imac

    Hi, Is anyone able to assist me please.  To cut a long story short.  i have had to reinstall my original software onto my Imac as when i put on Snow leopard it was just slowing down Photoshop 4 and would keep crashing.  So my problem is .... I had some prints printed today at Fuji and the prints have come back dark and just not up to scratch.  I know that it is not Fuji, but my settings.  I had someone set up my imac and Photoshop last time, but this time i will have to do myself and i just don't know what to set them at. Can anyone help please.  Not sure if you need this info but i am in New Zealand.  many thanks in advance.

    Being in the business of printing other people's image files, I can say without any doubt that the advent of digital image processing has definitely muddied the waters to a much greater extent than was the case when printing negaive film.  I'm also a shooter, and have been using such programs for many years, so I can understand the desire to manipulate your files before sending them to the lab. Color negatives never had "Profiles" attached to them.  If the proper film was used for the lighting conditions, it was simply up to the lab to make sure the resulting print was in balance, both in color and density.  It was also the lab's responsibility to maintain a degree of quality control that would make all of the above possible and repeatable.  I have to agree with the other response to your question.  Whether or not you have an embidded a profile, it's always the job of the printer to make sure the final print is up to a certain standard of quality.  If that is not the case, find another printer.  Unless you have indicated that your files should be printed without any corrections, the oweness belongs to the lab/printer.  I do have a few customers whose work I can print with very few corrections, due to the fact that they have calibrated their displays and have a very tight workflow.  However, the vast majority of files that I print require a considerable degree of correction, that's my job.  It's also the job of your lab/printer and if they are nor satisfying your needs you have to find someone who does.  I have printed many files that have no profile embidded and I simply convert them to my working color space(Adobe RGB 1998).  If you are concerned about doing color settings, this is the obvious place to start.  Create a custom space and make sure your working color is set to Adobe RGB 1998, not sRGB.  Adobe RGB 1998 is a considerably larger color space with a wider gamut and will allow for more choices and a wider range when it comes to processing the image.  Pro Photo RGB is an even larger color space, but one that is seldom used at this time.  I suspect it will become more popular in the fairly near future, as other technologies continue to push the color gamut envelope.
    So, I guess the gist of all of this is that you need to either have your lab/printer redo the dark prints, or find someone who knows how to print.  And equally important, someone who cares about your work as much as yo do.
    I am attaching a screen shot of my color settings and I would suggest this might be a good place to start.

  • Whilst using photoshop my iMac has become very hot is this normal

    Whilst using photoshop on my iMac it has become very hot is this normal

    What iMac model do you have and what version of the Mac OS is it running? Doing "About this Mac" from your Apple menu is a good start. Its first window looks like this:
    Note the two lines I've highlighted with the red arrows; post what they display on your computer.
    Different iMac models have different heat tolerences and heat management options, so we can better help you if we have those two bits of information

  • Photoshop on IMAC

    I'm buying an IMAC and would rather not break my bank account...
    I'll need it for photoshop, minimal video/music programs, itunes, possible gaming, dvds. Is it necessary to get the i5 or i7 processors over the i3? and is the basic 4GB memory/500GB hard drive enough to operate photoshop smoothly? should i uprade the memory to 8GB if I do get the i3 version?
    thanks for the help

    An i3 would easily be able to handle those tasks. The only "if" is the gaming, as many games are pretty complex with 3D graphics then it's to your benefit to get the i3 with the upgraded video card. The base machine has 256GB of video RAM and the upgraded i3 has 512GB. I would upgrade to 8 or 12 GB of RAM however DO NOT purchase the RAM from Apple. You can buy high quality RAM from reputable vendors such as Crucial and OWC at www.macsales.com, installing it is a 5 minute process and doesn't affect your warranty.
    You have a lot of options open to you, probably the best bang for the buck is to visit Apple's online refurbished store and look at refurbished machines. They're virtually the same as new, come with the same warranty as a new machine and are also eligible for AppleCare which is Apples extended warranty and support program. The biggest issue on this store is that products sell very quickly, for those that can't make up their minds they lose.

  • Photoshop CS6 - iMac Late 2009 - ATI 4670 - Liquify on screen brush adjustements

    Hi,
    I reinstall an iMac computer with OSX Mavericks (10.9.2). Old installation worked with Snow Leopard (10.6.8)
    Now all works ok but when I start Liquify plugin, I can't use on screen brush adjustements to change size and hardness. But this keys works ok in Photoshop.
    I use Photoshop CS6 with all updates. My iMac use ATI Radeon HD 4600 graphics card. What can I do to fix this problem? I try to disable graphics acceleration, but it doesn't fix it. Maybe reinstall Snow Leopard?
    Regards,
    Mike

    Yes, it works. I also have a Mac Mini...  Installing the same OSX version, same Photoshop and Wacom drivers, all works ok. Photoshop was installed using 13.0 dmg file. Then updated to 13.0.6 using Photoshop_CS6_13_0_6_upd.dmg file
    Wacom drivers: WacomTablet_6.3.7-3.dmg
    OSX installed using USB bootable with 10.9.1 version. Then updated to 10.9.2.

  • Imac OS10 will not update photoshop CS2

    How to update photoshop CS2 / iMac  OS10 will not support

    Exactly what version of Mac OS 10 do you have?
    And, if Photoshop is not supported, you will need to update/upgrade/pay for a new version of Photoshop. CS2 has not been supported since Snow leopard I believe (10.6):

  • Photoshop von 2. Monitor verschieben

    Hallo zusammen,

  • Dreamweaver/Photoshop Bug?

    My System:
    - Dreamweaver 8
    - Photoshop CS
    - iMac Intel Core Duo (OS X 10.4.8)
    My Problem:
    - I would like to edit the html in one or more of the
    existing template files used by Photoshop CS's automated "Web Photo
    Gallery" plugin. I have done this for two years with much success
    on my old Windows PC system. When using the PC I would:
    1) locate an existing template file (like "IndexPage.htm");
    2) edit the html in FrontPage;
    3) save the new file(s) to a new template folder; and
    4) run the automated Web Photo Gallery plugin in Photoshop.
    As I said, I've never had a problem -- until now.
    - Now that I have migrated to an iMac, I am using a newer
    version of Photoshop (CS) and instead of FrontPage, I now use
    Dreamweaver 8. But get a load of this -- if I so much as "OPEN" one
    of the existing template files that came with Photoshop CS using
    Dreamweaver 8, and then "SAVE AS" over the existing file (no edits,
    just an OPEN and SAVE), Photoshop's automated Web Photo Gallery
    plugin creates web pages with "missing" html. I kid you not.
    - Below is a sample of what the code in a "good" index.htm
    file looks like vs. the code in a "bad" index.htm file. Remember,
    the only difference between the template files used by Photoshop CS
    when creating these web photo galleries is that the "good" template
    is the original file from the installation CD, and the "bad"
    template was that same file OPENED and SAVED using DW 8.
    Good index.htm code:

    Any ideas as to what is causing this error? I've tried a
    number of things to help me isolate the issue. I assume that this
    problem has something to do with the way that DW 8 saves html
    files, or perhaps it has something to do with the way Photoshop CS
    reads html files. The thing is that the two template files are
    IDENTICAL when you compare their code -- what gives?
    Thanks in advance.

    DWD,
    Thanks for taking the time to read and respond to my post.
    Based on your response, I think that you -- and perhaps others --
    might be unclear as to the nature of my issue with Photoshop CS1
    and DW 8, so I'll quickly reivew it again.
    1. Photoshop CS 1 includes an "Automate" plugin called "Web
    Photo Gallery."
    2. This plugin includes several "templates" which generate
    various web ready photo gallery formats when selected.
    3. These "templates" are in fact a collection of html files
    -- grouped together by template -- which Photoshop uses when
    creating web ready photo galleries (once you've run the automated
    plugin.)
    4. These "template" files may be editted -- Photoshop's own
    user manual confirms this fact -- and I have done so in the past
    with much success. This gives me much more control over the final
    web gallery files created by Photoshop (i.e. size & resolution
    of images & thumbnails, gallery layout, CSS formats, etc.) than
    is achievable by using the DW 8 web gallery function you mentioned.
    5. I have never had an issue creating web photo galleries in
    Photoshop using template files that I have "customized." Just to be
    clear -- I customize the template file BEFORE I run the plugin, so
    this is not an issue of my not being able to edit html files
    GENERATED by Photoshop's plugin (I think.) Instead, it's an issue
    of Photoshop creating web photo gallery files that are missing
    random bits of code whenever I run the plugin using a template that
    I have customized.
    6. But here's the thing -- if I so much as OPEN a template
    file in DW 8 and then SAVE AS over the original file, Photoshop
    will create web photo gallery pages missing random bits of code,
    even though this "editted" template file has EXACLY THE SAME CODE
    as the original template file. When I revert back to using the
    original template files, Photoshop generates web photo gallery
    files with all of the code intact - no problems at all. What is the
    deal?
    7. I have only encountered this issue using Photoshop CS1 and
    DW8 on my new iMac. I have never had this issue when using
    Photoshop 7.0 and FrontPage 2000 on my Windows PC to achieve the
    same end.
    Is there some "invisible" code that DW8 inserts every time
    you open and save a file? I cannot SEE a difference between the
    code, file name and file extension of the original template file
    and the one I opened/saved in DW8, so why on earth would I get two
    different file results when running the "same" template through the
    same plugin? (See the "good" and "bad" code example in my original
    post.)
    Help!!!!!

  • Photoshop Elements 2.0 downloads freezes the program

    When I open Photoshop Elements it starts to download new files and then the Photoshop program freezes. I am able to use all the other programs but I can not use Photoshop and I am unable to close the program or opt out of downloads.
    Can anyone tell me what can I do so I am able to use this program short of unplugging the internet? If this little photoshop is incompatable with Apple or Mac OS X is there an Apple program that is comparable to Photoshop?
    iMac   Mac OS X (10.4.9)
    iMac   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

    Actually, you do want to start by "unplugging the internet." Quit PE, take the computer totally offline, restart PE and then go to preferences>Adobe Online and set Check for Updates to Never. There never were any, never will be any now that the program is up to version 5. It's the update checker that makes it hang.

  • Problem Yosemite/Photoshop CS6 and Wacom

    Hello,
    since the update from Mountain lion to Yosemite I have some problems with my Wacom intuos3 in Photoshop CS6.
    iMac (27 Zoll, Mitte 2011)
    3,1 GHz intel Core
    12 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
    AMD Radeon HD 6970M 2048 MB
    It reacts slowly and sometimes not. I installed the actual driver and a PS plugin.
    Wacom Treiber (WacomTablet_6.3.10w2.dmg)
    PS CS6 Plug-in (WhiteWindowWorkaround.plugin1_0_6)
    After the plugin everything was fine.
    But i needed a actual java (8) version for Illustrator CS6 and new problems appear.
    If I work faster in PS (more lines/drawing) the Pen reacts delayed. Sometimes not.
    I hope someone understands my problem. I´m happy for every help. At the moment working in PS is a little bit difficult.

  • Bug with big Black Pixel on Photoshop CC

    Hi,
    I recently install Photoshop CC (iMac 2,8 Ghz Intel Core i5, 16Go 1333 Mhz DDR33, Mavericks)
    When using different layers, I have a HUGE BLACK PIXEL coming on the picture (365x365px) , often on the low lef corner.
    It disapears when I strongly zoom inside but it comes back when I zoom out...
    Any idea please ????

    Many thx Mylenium,
    it seems to be working right now without OpenCL... I also had a bug with zoom in and zoom out but it seems to be ok too...
    I hope it will continue..
    (I use to work on heavy pictures with many layers, hope everything will not be too slow without OpenCL)

  • Best OS9-capable Mac to purchase in 2008?

    I have $1032 credit at Gain Saver because the optical drive on a used PB15 purchased earlier this year died. Since I opted for the 3-yr warranty, I can spend the credit and transfer the warranty to any of their current offerings.
    Instead of another PB15, I am considering the purchase of a G5 Dual 2.3GHz to replace a Power Mac G4. It's not portable but the G5 could become a more worthy Photoshop workstation.
    iMac 2.4GHz Core 2 Duo is currently the fastest machine on the network. A 1GHz AGP G4, 2GB RAM (broken FW connector; AP and EN T-10 bottlenecks) with ADC 23" Cinema Display is the slowest.
    On the eve of Snow Leopard, I would much rather purchase the latest Mac Pro. However there is a need to keep something capable of running Mac OS 9 or Classic around for backwards compatibility with old files, accounting records, taxes, custom apps, etc. This means OS will not be upgraded beyond Tiger. My dilemma is with minimal cost, to purchase a PowerMac with as much usefulness as possible. Recommendations welcomed.
    Non-liquid-cooled options considered:

    * PB15 G4 1.5GHz 2GB RAM, 250GB HD (M9422LL/A) @1114
    * iMac G5 20" 2.1GHz 2GB RAM, 750GB HD (MA064LL/A) @ $1095
    * PM G4 992mhz, 400GB HD (M8361Ll/A) @ $446
       (use RAM from AGP; leaves considerable credit)

    Having posted this question to three different mailing lists, I want to consolidate the most helpful responses. Relative Geekbench 2 score speed ratings from PM G3 349MHz (score: 206) to Mac Pro Intel Xeon 3.2GHz 8-core (score: 8565) are provided by Primate Labs.
    1. PM G4 Dual 1.25GHz MDD 1.5GB RAM, 400GB HD (M8573LL/A)
      + Will get the job done for the least outlay of cash
      + 2GB memory recognized in OS X
      + Able to boot into OS9 (1.5GB RAM)
      + One 10/100/1000BASE-T (Gigabit) Ethernet port
      + Third-party processor upgrades available
      - 167MHz System bus
      - Four open full-length 64-bit, 33MHz PCI slots; AGP 4X graphics card slot
      - Nicknamed "windtunnel"
      - Supports OS9 thru Leopard but Tiger only for Classic (no Snow Leopard)
      - Geekbench 2 score: 1047
    2. PM G5 Dual 2.3GHz 8GB RAM, 750GB HD (M9748LL/A)
      + Nearly fastest OS9 air-cooled Classic capable machine
      + One 1000BASE-T (Gigabit) Ethernet port
      + 1.15GHz System bus
      + Available from vendor with which credit balance exists
      + One of the least problematic G5s
      - Requires additional cash for maximum RAM
      - 3 PCI slots (Slots 2&3 64-bit, 100 MHz; Slot 4 64-bit, 133 MHz)
      - Power hungry, drawing 300w on average
      - Supports OS9 thru Leopard but Tiger only for Classic (no Snow Leopard)
      - Geekbench 2 score: 1962
    3. PM G5 Core Duo 2.3GHz, 16GB RAM 750GB HD (M9591LL/A)
      + Perhaps fastest OS9 Classic air-cooled capable machine
      + Dual 10/100/1000BASE-T (Gigabit) Ethernet ports
      + Twice memory capacity of prior G5 Dual 2.3GHz
      + 1.15GHz System bus
      + One of the least problematic G5s
      - Unavailable from vendor with which credit balance exists
      - 3 PCI Express 100MHz expansion slots: two 4-lane slots and one 8-lane slot
      - Power hungry, drawing 300w+ on average
      - Cost to maximize memory may not be worth minimal performance gain
      - Supports OS9 thru Leopard but Tiger only for Classic (no Snow Leopard)
      - Geekbench 2 score: 2064
    Any of theses acquisitions allow hard drive(s) on current PM G4 1GHz to be purged. Thereafter the latest version of Tiger (10.4.11) will be installed on it with Classic before retiring on a shelf as a backup OS9 machine. This will allow AirPort Extreme Base station to be configured to eliminate slower 802.11b/g WEP WiFi in favor of faster and more secure 802.11g WPA2 WiFi - improving local iPhone performance and allowing Gigabit file transfers between cat-6 wired Macs and newest printers. Last year, three trunk loads of old Macs, hard drives and components were disposed of as e-waste.
    It is with great interest that I follow multi-core optimized Snow Leopard and Mac Pros released in 2009 to exploit this feature. If everything comes together nicely (true application acceleration, print driver compatibility, expansion beyond 8 cores, new 30"+ Apple Display, stabilization of stock market), I look forward to acquiring an incredible system and MacBook next year in addition to one of the configurations summarized above.

  • Square script mystery

    Greetings!
    Photoshop CS5, iMac June 2010 ,8 GB Ram, OS 10.7
    Have a script, which takes any image and makes it square by comparing the height and width. Trouble is, I can run this on single images without problem, but when I try to put it in a batch the prefernces panel comes up on Units and Rulers, and does so for every single image. If I try to cancel the script it give me an error message about line 2.
    Here's the script (ExtendScript Toolkit CS5):
    var savedRuler= app.preferences.rulerUnits;
    app.preferences.rulerUnits = Units.PIXELS;
    var w = app.activeDocument.width;
    var h = app.activeDocument.height;
    if(w>h) app.activeDocument.resizeCanvas (w, w, AnchorPosition.MIDDLECENTER);
    if(w<h) app.activeDocument.resizeCanvas (h, h, AnchorPosition.MIDDLECENTER);
    //if w==h already square
    app.preferences.rulerUnits = savedRuler;
    When I tried to remove the first two lines the script stops and opens the Canvas Size dialog box, once again for each image.
    I'd liek to get this to work in a batch. Can anyone give some advice on this?
    Thanks ahead of time!

    You also need the first two lines or you need to retrieve the ruler units to make sure your if statements will do what you want. For if ruler units is set to  percent width will always be 100% and height will always be 100%  w will = y and the document may or may not be square. If the document contains a background layer you may also want to set the color its added canvas will be.
