Photoshop album SE and catalogs

How can I save or back up catalogs I've made with PSE. What I want to know... how can I restore catalogs after reinstalling windows.

I don't know if PSA SE has the backup/restore capability. Just look under the File menu. If so, then you can create a backup of all the images and catalog.
Otherwise, just backup everything under Documents and Settings and you should be covered.
BTW, you can only have one catalog with SE ...

  • Restoring & converting Photoshop Album 2.0 catalog

I recently replaced my old PC (Windows XP, Photoshop Album 2.0) by a new one (Windows 7), however not without first saving my Photoshop Album catalog on an external hard drive.
As Windows 7 refuses to install Photoshop Album 2.0, I purchased Photoshop Elements 8, as the Adobe website indicated that PSE 8 supported catalogs made by Photoshop Album.
However when trying to restore my Photoshop Album catolog from the external hard drive, after restoring it, PSE8 asks me to convert it and then I always get a failure message saying that the catalog couldn't be succesfully converted .
Can anyone give me a helping hand? Thank you.

The upgrade from Photoshop Album 2 can have some difficulties, but people have been successful. I recommend that you follow the suggested steps and request additional help from others on this forum when you can not resolve a problem.

  • Photoshop Album 2.0 Catalog problem

I have been using Photoshop Album 2.0 on my old computer (Windows XP) for some time. My new computer is Vista 32bit. I have installed Album 2.0 on the new computer. I have used Easy Transfer to transfer the Photoshop Album Catalog to the new computer. When I open Photoshop Album all I get is a blank catalog page. Does Vista support this version of Photoshop. How can I retrieve my pictures and settings.

It's not compatible with Vista, no.
You might try the free Album Starter Edition, although I'm not sure if you can just open an existing Album 2.0 catalog in it (I don't use either software, so I just don't know).
If your catalog is empty, then it's possible you didn't transfer the actual image files to the new computer.
Album only stores a link to the images on your hard drive, so you have to have the files in place for the catalog to see them.

  • How do you convert a Photoshop Album 2.0 catalog to Photoshop Elements 13.0 catalog?

I have a lot of photographs with metadata and tags in Photoshop Album version 2.0 and I want to pull thee images, metadata, and tags into Photoshop Elements version 13.0 on a Windows 7 computer. Searching the web I found that this has to be done with the convert feature.  I tried File, Manage Catalogs, Convert and point to the folder holding my Photo Project Catalog.psa file, but nothing happens. It does not apparently see the .psa file.  How do I get my .psa catalog migrated into Elements 13?

    Hi,
    See if this helps.
Convert Organizer catalogs for 64-bit versions | Photoshop Elements 13 or later

  • Retrieving Photoshop Album Starter Edition catalog

I am unable to retrieve photos from my Adobe Photoshop Album Starter Edition. Asked for an unlock code, but never got one via email. Called Adobe. They said this forum was the only way I could solve the problem. Huh? Anyone out there been through this? I can't access five years worth of photographs.

Download Photoshop Elements 9.   Open the program and when the sky blue coloured panel appears, click on 'ORGANISE'.
This will open your new photo catalogue (all in black and grey).  Click on 'FIND' at the top left corner, and then click on 'BY HISTORY' and then click on 'IMPORTED ON'.  This should open your entire list of pics that you have on Album Starter 3.2 and on hard disc and CD.
Click on the ones you want to retrieve and then copy them to disc or hardrive in a new file.  You should also see the images in the new catalogue on the screen.
I have been trying for months to get to my photos and this seems to do the trick.  Good luck!

  • Adobe Photoshop Album 2.0 to Adobe Photoshop Elements 12 Organizer catalog conversion

I'm having trouble converting Adobe Photoshop Album 2.0 catalog to Adobe Photoshop Elements 12 Organizer.  I get a Conversion Failed error which tells me to repair with the program that created it.  I have tried several things including deleting all .avi files from the catalog, deleting references to missing files and backing up then trying to convert from an external HD.  I'm running Vista Home Premium on a HP laptop.  The Organizer optimize and repair don't seem to help in this case.
Does anyone have any history with this or advice?

Please refer to following KB article which deals with catalog conversion failures:-

  • Migration from "Adobe Photoshop Album Decouverte" to "Adobe Photoshop Elements 12"

    Hello,
Is it possible to migrate all the data I have in Adobe Photoshop Album Decouverte and import it in Adobe Photoshop Elements 12 ?
Thank you for your advice !
    Marc

Finally I could solve the problem.
I tried to import the Backup.tly in Photoshop Elements, but without success. Even there an Error appeared. The conversion tool also still got this failure at a progress of 15% conversion... So I searched a reason for the failure in google and found this helpful article from Adobe. It says that you should look for the corrupt images in the log file. So did I, and I found the error causing picture on the old computer and deleted it. After that I opened Photoshop Album, clicked on "File > Reconnect all missing files" and deleted this picture from the catalog.
Now I didn't want to make the backup again, because the last nearly had 1h. So I decided to try it again by just copying the catalog.psa from the old computer to the new one and to convert it again with the conversion tool. The error came again, but at a progress of 22% So i had to do this a few times: Searching the corrupt image in the log file, deleting it on the old computer, deleting the missing file in Photoshop Album and converting it. And finally, it worked, no error after conversion! I let photoshop elements 13 open the new .pse13 file. Now, all tags and albums were back on Photoshop Elements. Eventually, I let the programm searching the new paths of all the images. It takes a time but it works great now. Thanks for your help, I would recommend the Adobe Community & support!

  • Cannot find Photoshop Album in My Pictures

I have been looking all over my C:drive for the Photoshop Album Starter and have located the program but still cannot access the pictures. The digital camera photos folder is empty, however when I open the actual program, the pictures appear. How can I remove the pictures from the Photoshop Album and put them back in My Pictures or on a CD?

I am trying to recall what I did Bob. I only know that PASE loads as soon as I plug the memory card in, and presents my photos on my screen. I have selected that it save them in folders according to date. Finally came the day when I wanted to organize all the pic folders, so in one afternoon, I created a few "collections". the consequences of what I did were immediate, so there was no opportunity for something to have happened from some other source or user. I remember being hesitant when I first saw "import" as an option, but I chose to try it for getting images stored in My Pictures into my PASE collection - from where I selected import, I now can not say, as I can not even find "import" anywhere except when I load my memory card, and I DON'T want to load any more of my photos now until I figure out what's happened to my old ones.
The really odd thing is, some of the originals ARE still there in My Pics, yet many others are reported as "missing". I don't know what the criteria was for removing the originals.
Bottom line... PASE does have all the pics in one place. How can I get them all back? It won't let me burn to CD, and even at that, I'm not sure if anyone would be able to open the CD without fist installing the Adobe programs. Can any other program access the pics once they are burned? How can I burn them?
    Thanks again for your help.

  • Uninstalling Photoshop Album Starter

I have been using Paint Shop Pro for several years. I installed this complimentary edition of Photoshop to see what it looked like. It immediately defaulted all my photos on the computer to the Photoshop program. Now I can't open them in Paint Shop Pro. I would like to uninstall Photoshop Album Starter and return to PSP but I'm afraid, if I remove the program, I'll also remove my pictures. Please let me know.
    Judy

Firstly, this was an option you accepted during install. Unfortunately the default has this behaviour.
    > I would like to uninstall Photoshop Album Starter and return to PSP but I'm afraid, if I remove the program, I'll also remove my pictures.
Don't worry - your pictures will be OK. This won't fix the problem as you still need to reassociate any file types with PSP. Just right-click on a fil ein Windows Explorer, choose Open With, select PSP and check Always Open.

  • Will Photoshop Album 3.2 process all tags and catalogs from v2.0?

I want to upgrade to Photoshop Album 3.2 but the last time I tried that a year ago I could not figure out how to move my tags and catalogs. Did I do something wrong or has this been fixed?

You can upgrade from Photoshop album 3.2 to Elements 11 successfully. No information gets lost in conversion process.

  • PSE 8 - Coverting My Catalog from Photoshop Album 2.0

My free download PSE 8 begings the conversion of My Catalog (Photoshop Album 2.0) when only 6% of the way into the process it stops giving an error message; "Failed. Try repairing the catalog with the software that created it". Frankly I am not sure where to begin.
My entire catalog, only one by the way, was created with the Photoshop Album 2.0 application. In an attempt to identify what was in need of repair using the slideshow View over all of the photos in my catalog I did identify where some images' were not linked to the actual photo. Any such disconnect I have rectified and am able to view the entire slideshow without interruption suggesting that there is nothing to repair?
Our use of Photoshop Album 2.0 has been unsophisticated. We download our photos from camera/s mainly using the Photoshop application which automatically stores them in the Adobe sub-folder under My Pictures. We then move these into appropriately named separate folders and mapping them onto similarly named Collections within My Catalog. Here we edit and delete where necessary and also caption. Once that exercise is complete, to reduce storage, we go back to My Pictures and remove any duplication resulting from the editing process. As a final test we take a slideshow View of each collection to insure that there are no disconnect.
What can I try next? Is there any diagnostic tool within Elements 8 which can assist in identifying where we need to start with the repair job?

    Hi John
Despite successfully running Reconnect and Repair, PSE 8 is still unable to
convert My Catalog from Photoshop Album 2.0. The 'Problems converting
catalogs to PSE 6 or 7' notes suggests that I might need to first migrate to
Elements 5. Can I take you up on the offer find me a copy?
Actually John I may be making life unnecessarily difficult for myself. I
would like to upgrade my Adobe Photoshop software but have some thousands of
photos with captions. Is there a more simple way to migrate photos, edited
photos all with captions into PSE 8?

  • Converting Catalogs From Photoshop Album (2.0) to Photoshop Elements 13

My Photoshop Album currently holds some 23,000 photographs/jpgs from 2003 to date. Each is catalogued to provide a very high level of granularity to assist in identifying specific photographs and their subject content.
I have purchased Photoshop Elements to update the management of the collection. The Adobe information identifies it to be a suitable successor but indicates that there is likely to be some effort required to update the catalog. Using Catalog Manager I have attempted to Convert the old catalog which didn’t work because it “couldn’t be seen” in Elements. Further research of the Forum and other Adobe resources pointed to the Catalog Conversion Utility. Again this also failed to work.
I then reduced the number of photographs to about 4,500 (year 2014). I have noted by the way that this has had virtually no effect on the psa file size. As I gradually Deleted photos from the Catalog I have come across about 100 items which cannot be deleted and returns the following error message….
The ODBC data source reported the following error:
“[Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver] Indicator variable required but not supplied on column number 10 (fDateTimeHigh)”
I have tried a number of ways to delete the photos including removing them from their folder; “Reconnecting the Missing File” with/without the same name in a different Folder; and generally getting myself very frustrated with my lack of knowledge. Googling/search for help and pointers hasn’t found the solution.
What or where can I find a way of deleting these errant files? (I have MS Access if this is a tool that might get me the solution.)
Note that one very old and small Catalog did convert and successfully integrated into Elements so it all works in principle. It seems to point to these problem jpgs.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Yes. Thanks for your reply. Just shows my age doesn't it! I've really got to upgrade my system from Windows 3.1.
Still it lasted me for quite a few years over its various issues and wasn't a bad investment for me considering I think it was a magazine cover freebie, though I can't remember whether it was issued on 5" or 3" disks!!!
Interesting to note that conceptually the original design was quite good and together with the new face recognition technology which is as good if not better than Picasa the PSE13 Organiser does a good job. It's a pity Adobe doesn't promote more of this side of the product. I wasn't able to find the replacement to Album as it was starting to struggle as the photo count increased and I hadn't been able to find an obvious replacement. Still that's over now.
All I have to do now is to raise a query as to how to order/sort certain tags and it's a near perfect product for me. Can't find the answer in the Manual(s) or FAQs - or I'm not using the correct query key words.

  • Importing Pictures and Tags from Photoshop Album 2.0 to IPhoto

I will be getting a new imac in a few days and was wondering if anyone knows if there is a way I can import all my photos from Photoshop Album 2.0 to iphoto'08 without losing the tags I already created for each photo (pulling the tags in and having them automatically set up as Keywords)?

    Hi,
I've managed to transfer all my Photoshop Album (PSA) tags to iPhoto. At this (http://www.cv2h.com/PSA2iPhoto/Welcome.html) little webpage you can read how I did it and download the files you need. It's not very hard to do.
In short: the PSA "My Catalog.psa" file is a Microsoft Access file. It's easy to export the necessary data from it as XML. After that it's necessary to convert the binary references to the tags to readable references in the Images file. Then, generate an applescript that tells iPhoto what tags to add to which photo. Then, execute the applescript and you're done.
    I hope this helps,
    hhv.

  • Photoshop Album and Controls

I recently upgraded my photo editing capabilities  from Adobe Elements (ADE) 2 and Adobe Photoshop Album (ADA), Version 1.5 to ADE  9 with my recent purchase of a new PC with Windows 7. I recently made my first  slide album with ADE 9.
I have one question regarding my first ADA  album.  With ADA 1.5, I could place a Control Panel in the slide show allowing  manual or continuous viewing as well as clicking on a running tool bar to jump ahead.   With my first ADE 9 album, I am unable to place this Control Panel in  the slide show.  Automatic or manual slide viewing is available when developing  the slide show but not with the finished product.  Is there a way to place a  Control Panel with the finished slide show with ADE 9?
If a slide show is saved in .mvp or.pdf format would ControlPanel be included in the output?  Also, I only using ADE 9 to develop a slide program; I do not use any on-line service.

I don't know if PSA SE has the backup/restore capability. Just look under the File menu. If so, then you can create a backup of all the images and catalog.
Otherwise, just backup everything under Documents and Settings and you should be covered.
BTW, you can only have one catalog with SE ...
