Photoshop and ID CS3 known issue?

Hi all,
Whenever I try to save a file from Photoshop over an existing file PS will refuse to save if the image is in an open, and unsaved, ID file.
That, I assume, is normal. Usually saving the ID file will allow PS to save correctly. However more and more now I have to totally quit ID to be able to save a file from PS that is in use in a document open in ID.
Hope I made that clear - it's a major pain in the posterior.
Whilst I'm rapidly getting to the point of preferring ID over Quark this is a damn nuisance - to not be able to save a file simply because it's linked to an un-saved ID document, or like I said even linked to a no longer open ID document, without quitting ID first is slowing work down!
Versions are as follows:
OS 10.4.11, Photoshop CS3 10.0.1, ID CS3 5.0.2
Thanks!
Greg

Buko,
I have not experienced the problem on my machine. You are right, my InDesign is pre-CS, and I use it very infrequently these days.
However, the error message and issue is seen intermittently by other posters, and by an acquaintance who is on a network. The application that has a file open doesn't have to be InDesign necessarily.
You may have misconstrued the original post.
b [Otherwise, I did.]
It
b is
a Photoshop issue, not an ID issue. In this case, InDesign happens to be the application which has the file open that cannot be saved
b in Photoshop.
The workaround by the OP works.

  • Photoshop and InDesign CS3 keep quitting unexpectedly

I'm having issues with Photoshop and InDesign CS3 quitting unexpectedly. At first it was every once in a while, now it's happening numerous times a day and is becoming most irritating. I'm using a mac with OS X. I wasn't here when they installed CS3 and am the only one in the company with a mac so the computer services department won't be any help.

Run the normal maintenance tasks including Repair Permissions.
If it still crashes make sure that the TWAIN plug-in has been disabled and try trashing Photoshop's Prefs.
Otherwise, suspect bad Fonts. FontAgent Pro can ferret those out for you.
(Because it is also happening in InDesign, I suspect that bad or duplicated fonts are involved.)

  • Different Colors when printing from Photoshop and InDesign CS3

Different Colors when printing from Photoshop and InDesign CS3
    I have the following problem:
When printing from Photoshop or InDesign to a PostScript printer, Adobe recommends to let Photoshop handle the colors (I use the German version, so I don't know the exact term used, it changes slightly in all CS3 apps anyway).
The manufacturer however told me to let the PostScript printer handle the colors.
When I chose this option in Ps's print dialog and then choose ISO Coated as the printer pfofile, the results are fine.
But when I place the exact same image in an InDesign file and print from InDesign or export to PDF and print via Acrobat, again using "Printer handles colors", the results are the exact same as if I had used Ps and chosen to let Ps handle the colors (way too saturated and a bit too red).
    ·Photoshop CS3
    ·InDesign CS3
·Test image is a TIFF in CMYK Fogra 27 Coated (which is also the working color space in Ps and ID.
    ·Printer: Xerox Docucolor 3535
    ·Printer profile: ISO Coated
How can I make sure the printer handles the colors in other CS3 apps than Ps? I tried it with ID's print dialog (translated from the German version: Color Management > Options > Color Handling: PostScript-printer decides colors).
    Thanks a lot!

RE: "You don't indicate what Xerox printers you have"
In my first post I named it, is that the information you need?
    Docucolor 3535 using Splash 3535
That's interesting, so I have to find a way to turn off the printer's Color Management function? I mailed them, hope they can tell me how to do it easily. They usually just tell me to not use any profiles and so on, but that's the general rule in this area, I'm really tired of hearing it. Everybody seems to think profiles and LAB mode are nuclear science and I should stay away from it.
Anyway, the test image I'm using is a simple photograph (size A3, 300dpi), so no transparencies at all. I'm placing this image into an equally large ID file and print it from ID, then export it to PDF-X/3 and print it from Acrobat. Hope that helps.

  • Indesign won't install past 42% then says it failed. I downloaded photoshop and illustrator with no issues.

Ive tried to download Indesign but it won't go past 42% on the download bar and then it says it failed. no information to why.
I downloaded Photoshop and Illustrator with no issues
    on a Mac running 10.0.5

Dededededede I would recommend reviewing your installation log files to determine if the installation or download has failed.  If the installation has failed then there will be a specific error within the log which will determine why there was a failure.  You can find details on how to locate and interpret the installation log files at Troubleshoot install issues with log files | CC - http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/kb/troubleshoot-install-logs-cc.html.  You are welcome to post any specific errors you discover to this discussion.

  • Tablet PC calibration error in Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator CS3 whilst in Extended Desktop Mode

    Hey everyone!
I've run into a snag which hasn't bugged me before because I never used a second monitor, but now that I do, Photoshop and Illustrator don't function properly.
I am running my Adobe products on my Lenovo X61 Thinkpad Tablet, which is Wacom PenEnabled. It's got the basic digitizer pen and pen pressure features, no stylus tilt or anything.
Whenever I run Photoshop or Illustrator in Extended Desktop Mode so I can have a different window open on my external monitor and the Adobe app on my tablet screen, my stylus goes strange. It seems to think that the extended desktop is part of the Adobe window, so when I move my stylus to draw, the cursor will appear on the external monitor, usually proportionate to the size of the screen...ie. It interprets the external and tablet screens as one desktop and the top left corner of my tablet screen is the top left of my external, whilst the bottom right on tablet IS the bottom right on tablet, if that makes any sense...sorry.
So I can't draw anything in photosho unless I set it back to standard desktop mode, or mirrored desktop. I've searched over the net and these forums and I can't find a fix for this. I was walking in harvey norman the other day and the Wacom Cintiq 12" was there on display, and it had the same issue with extended desktop and photoshop.
Has anyone had this issue before and/or does anyone know of a fix for it? I'll keep searching around and playing with the computer until I fix it and I'll post any solutions I find here if noone else has one.
    My system details are:
    Abobe Photoshop CS3 10.0.0
    Adobe Illustrator CS3 13.0.0
OS: Windows Vista Build 6001, Service Pack 1, 32bit
    RAM: 2GB
HD: 18.2GB free Disk Space (out of 66.3GB on the Active Partition)
Video: Intel GMA: Mobile Intel(R) 965 Express Chipset Family

I'm using an HP tx2011au tablet pc, using adobe flash cs3 and have the exact same problem. it becomes decalibrated only while the flash window is open, and only while flash has a file open, and only when using an extended desktop. even if flash is open and it has no files open it works fine.

  • X_cons and Windows 2008 - known issue?

Are there any known issues with MaxDB and especially x_cons on Windows 2008? I´m doing a system copy, the database is running, loading of the database (via R3load) is running fine also. (and yes, I know, W2K8 is not yet officiall released).
I did a "runas /user:ti4amd cmd.exe", logged on as that user an trying to do an x_cons:

  • PhotoShop Cs5 to Cs3 Brush issue

    Hello.
Previously I was using PhotoShop CS5 for my personal art design, however i had to switch back to CS3 for various reasons. Having devoted a lot of time and care into my CS5, I saved up my
swatches, styles, brushes, etc..... so I wouldn't lose all my work. I spaced, however, and saved the CS5 brushes with the rest of my generic brushes in the process of a mass save. I no longer have access to CS5, and when I attempt to load the .abr into my CS3, it gives an error.
"Could not load the brushes "D:\etc\etc\etc\Brush Set 1.abr" because the file is not compatible with this version of photoshop."
Is there anyway to get in there and delete those specific brushes, recover the ones I'm after......or.....anything?
    Thanks

Call Customer Service. You will need Photoshop CS3 media as a start as Adobe no longer provides media for older versions.

  • Having trouble installing adobe photoshop (and illustrator) cs3

i have recently reformatted my computer (Windows Vista Business) and am trying to reinstall photoshop cs3 from a dvd and am having some problems.  This dvd installed fine about a year ago when we upgraded the computer from xp to vista but now when i can get the dvd going (sometimes it freezes the computer) i get a couple of notifications:

now i was able to copy the entire contents of the dvd to my desktop, and since that worked i attempted the install from the dvd.  as stated above everything seemed to be going fine but now it says installation completed

  • Is Vista and Flash CS3 performance issue solved?

My performances in Flash CS3 are very poor. When I try to
scroll up-down/left-right I got slideshow. When move the
framecursor to view the frames I also get slideshow. Searched
google, do the compatibility settings and the only batter thing I
get is smoother scrolling of the code. Nothing more. Is this
    solved?
Im running C2Duo with 4gb 800 ram with Vista x64.
Should I go back to Flash 8?

    I have an old AlBook G4 1.67 2GB and I actually think CS3
works great. There is a huge thread about this very issue going on
at the moment so you might want to take a look there. I never had
Flash 8, but MX04 also ran just fine on my laptop.
As far as player performance, it has sped up a lot with AS3
and Flash plugin 9. (Even if you publish AS2 for Flash 9!). I Don't
know if there is true parity between the systems, but it is
    certainly faster.
I've always thought it a good idea to develop on a Mac. If
you can make your animations look smooth and good playing back in
the Mac version of the player then you know they will look good
across the board. I can't tell you how many sites (thankfully fewer
these days) where I go and everything just crawls and chugs along.
It is usually due to over high frame rates and excess transparency
or animated raster images. (And I'm talking about the kind that
even if it did move smoothly it wouldn't be worth it!)

  • Windows 7 Photoshop 12 known issues?

My windows 7 upgrade advisor (from Vista) says that my freshly installed Photoshop Elements 12  has known issues with Windows 7 and should be uninstalled before upgrading to win7.
Does anyone know what the known issues are?

    I am using PSE12 on Win7 (like most PSE12 users, I think).

??? Ask him. On the contrary, there is a very precise issue with Vista and PSE12 if you have a very recent camera shooting raw, like the Canon 70D.
If you are going to update on the same computer, be sure to backup your catalog and pictures via the organizer to an external drive.
I am not sure uninstalling is required, but it's a good idea to deactivate your licence (help / sign out) and reactivate it when you have upgraded. Be sure you have your original CDs and the key. If you have registered your software in Adobe's site, you'll still be able to recover it in any case.

  • Illustrator and Photoshop (and Skype) keep quitting unexpectedly at launch

I wasn't sure which specific one I should post this in, Illustrator, or Photoshop, or somewhere else :T So I apologize if this isn't the right place. But I really need to fix this problem. All 3 of these programs keep doing this..And I don't know why. So I deleted Illustrator and was going to reinstall it, however when I click on Adobe Installer, it also quits unexpectedly! Can you someone help me out to fix this problem? Thanks.

You have deleted Illustrator and going to run the cleanscript then make sure before running clean script you remove all adobe product because I beleive you haven't removed photoshop and it may cause issue in uninstallation after you run the clean script.
    Follow the steps:-
    1) Remove the complete suite using the uninstaller :-
Win;- Go to control panel and uninstall
                      Mac:- Mac HD-->Applications-->Utilities-->Adobe Installers
    2) Run teh cleanscript
    3) Create a new user account and then install
---it will be better if you let us know the version of Illustrator , photoshop and the Operating system you are using.

  • Solving Known Issues

This morning I was working on a LVOOP project and was busy with password protecting the methods. Once finished I went working on the derived class and wanted to use the option to override a parent method. Bang. Epic. Fail. When you want to override your parent method, which is password protected, you need to put in the password of the parent.
Astonished by this, I found out the magic page of LabVIEW 2011 and 2011 SP1 Known Issues (http://www.ni.com/white-paper/13164/) and voilà, here is the problem even written down.
Cannot use the 'New>>VI for Override...' dialog to create override of password-protected VI unless you have the password
You use the 'New>>VI for Override...' dialog to override an ancestor VI in a LabVIEW class if the VI you want to override is password-protected.
Workaround: Make a public VI which wraps the functionality of the the private VI, and instruct others to override the public VI. Reported Version: 8.5
Reported Version: 8.5 Resolved Version: N/A Added: 09/01/2007
Even more astonished, I realized the bug was known for more than 5 years! A quick Ctrl + F for dates makes this small table of known issues and their year of discovery.
    2007: 30
    2008: 18
    2009: 25
    2010: 41
    2011: 61
    2012: 5
I'm not going to complain about reports from 2011 or 2012 that haven been solved yet. 2010 is discussable, but 30 unsolved issues from 2007! My question arises, are these problems EVER going to be solved? In our group we now know and use a lot of workarounds for known issues, but I guess everyone needs to use these workarounds and some workarounds are really ugly or time consuming.

We are currently working on these issues and we expected them to be fixed in a current version of LabVIEW, CARs such as these are addressed in the order which affects the most customers which is why these may be not solved immediatly after being reported.
    Kind regards
    Tobias S.

  • Can't copy and paste between Photoshop and Dreamweaver

The recommended way to import assets from a Photoshop PSD files since Dreamweaver CC 2014.1 is to use the Extract panel.
In older versions of Photoshop and Dreamweaver (CS3 and above), you can copy a selection or layer from a PSD in Photoshop directly into Dreamweaver (you need both Photoshop and Dreamweaver installed on the same computer). This launches the Image Preview dialog box for you to optimize and save an image ready for the Web.
If you can't copy from Photoshop into Dreamweaver, make sure that the Export Clipboard check box is selected in the Photoshop General Preferences panel.
Many thanks to Bob Levine for providing this useful tip.

It sounds like you need to trash your prefs. See Replace Your Preferences
And it shouldn't throw that message, but also check to be sure that Paste Remembers Layers isn't checked in the Layers panel flyout menu or you'll never get anything to paste from one layer to another.

  • Photoshop CS3 and Light Room color issues on Mac

    Hi,
I'm a photographer and I work mostly on my Mac. Recently however I started having issues when editing in Lightroom and Photoshop CS3 as the colors are very off from Lightroom.
I attached these 2 images to show the differences.
From Photoshop or directly from camera into Lightroom images look fine but after being edited in Lightroom and exported they look all brownish - green in Photoshop and on any other computer as well in print.
I try to research it a bit online and it seems it all has to do with color profiles but can't get to the bottom of it.
I tried to change the lightroom from ProPhoto RGB to Adobe RGB 1998 but it does not seem to work.
The Photoshop is set on Monitor RGB and all images from Photoshop are fine on other computers and in print.
    Any ideas anyone?
    Thanks.

Well, I think what you need to do is get a better grasp on the fundimentals of color management-which is a bit beyond the scope of what the forums can offer you.
The bottom line is that Lightroom & Photoshop CSx (meaning past CS or actually even back to 7) can and does make use of display profiles (you can't turn it off even if Photoshop has a setting that makes you think you can). An image in Lightroom and Photoshop is always color managed...outside of an app that is color management, all bets are off.
Save, assigning and converting to profiles are all very different. Photoshop CS3's color settings are absolutely critical because that's how you deal with managed and unmanaged color.
Until you learn different, I would suggest that you set your CS3 color settings to North American PrePress 2....if you want images for the web, Convert To sRGB or use the new Save For Web (which can now do the sRGB conversion-finally).
For other uses and purposes, I would suggest that you seriously consider using Adobe RGB-until such time that you understand the implications of using Pro Photo RGB.
