Photoshop and Lion 10.7.2

Hi Group!
All of the sudden I've been cursed with this problem in Photoshop CS 5.1 where everytime i try to open Photoshop, i get the following error message:
'Could not initialize Photoshop because the file is locked or you do not have the necessary access privileges. Use the 'Get Info' command in the Finder to unlock the file or change permissions on the file or enclosing folders.'
Get info on WHAT FILE? WHAT FOLDER?
I tried whacking the Photoshop Prefs using the Command + Option + Shift trick but that didn't work.
Repaired permissions. That didn't work.
Uninstalled and Reinstalled CS 5.5. Fullyupdated. That didn't work!
Checked the disk for errors. That didn't work.
Dumped any and ALL .plists and/or cache related files. That didn't work.
And funny enough (which I'll post under the Indesign group), I can't open Indesign either all of the sudden. It just QUITS out as soon as the IDCS5.5 splash screen appears. POP goes the weasle!
I am at a stand still with this folks.
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

Thanks for the relpy!
c.pfaffenbichler: Yes, I checked all related Photoshop files for permissions. All appears to be in order as far as i can tell.
And yes, I always reboot after a permissions repair. Thanks or asking!
Rick, everything in Finder checks out. Nothing locked.
One thing though... I tried opening PS under a local user account.
And guess what... PHOTOSHOP OPENED! Which leads me to believe we have a PERMISSIONS problem on our hands.
Indesign still crashed though.
On top of all this... our Macs are joined to Active Directory. AD bind. Which also means MOBILE Accounts.
So who knows what and where something is getting blocked.
The local account is an ADMIN account. My user MOBILE account is also and ADMIN account.
I'll keep digging. Somethings definitely up!

this one is actually a really rare symptom of a flaky connection to the ipod on a Windows PC. there's more going on in terms of hardware on nanos and 5th gens than in the earlier models ... so if the connection is flaky to precisely the right/wrong degree, itunes will see the ipod, but misidentify it as an earlier version of ipod.
tracking down the cause of the flakiness can be tricky ... as you already know ...
just checking. have you tried connecting with a different (known-good) USB cable? does that seem to have any impact on the rate of occurence of the problem?

Happy to report that iTunes Match has returned to working like normal on iTunes 10.7 on my computer today. If any iTunes engineers read this thread, I really appreciate the fix.
Has it returned to normal for you?

  • Is my iMac now useless as i have installed lion and i am no longer able to run cs2 photoshop and illustrator as this is all i use my mac for they should make this clear before buying it i can't afford the latest version of cs2

is my iMac now useless as i have installed lion and i am no longer able to run cs2 photoshop and illustrator as this is all i use my mac for they should make this clear before buying it i can't afford the latest version of cs2 and cant believe what a waste of money it is.

The newest version of CS2 is CS5. And it was made very clear that these applications would not run in Lion. Not only by Apple, but on all sorts of communities and websites. It has been a long time coming - PowerPC apps were outdated six years ago. Lion does not support Rosetta, and therefore not PPC apps.
you have to options. Go back to Snow Leopard or upgrade your software. (MS Office 2004 and older will not run either).
    Cheers

  • I upgraded to Lion, now Photoshop and AfterEffects don't work. They are no longer supported. Is there an upgrade? What are my options?*

I just upgraded to Lion. Unfortunately I found too late that PowerPC software is not supported. I have already lost one day of business. How can I go back to Leopard, or is there a upgrade for the software that no longer works on Lion that will support its existence in the Lion environment. Any and all help is appreciated. I am trying to run a business that operates with Photoshop and AfterEffects.
    Thank you,
    Michael

Versions of Photoshop and After Effects that old (PPC code only) have to be the original CS or older.
The cheapest fix is to revert to Snow Leopard. If you need/want to remain in Lion, then upgrade to CS 5.5. All of its apps have been updated to work as expected in Lion.
Since there is no upgrade path from CS to CS 5.5 (you'd have to pay full price), then, if you can, you may as well wait until CS6 is released. Going by Adobe's typical upgrade cycle of 12 - 18 months, the earliest possible release will be sometime this fall.
One page on Adobe's site notes that the oldest software that qualifies for an upgrade to CS 6 will be CS 3. Upgrade prices have been ranked by age the past few years. People upgrading from CS 3 will pay more for CS 6 than someone upgrading from CS 5.

  • Photoshop and Illustrator updates fail using Adobe Application Manager, why and what can I do?

In the Adobe Application Manager, it says there are updates for both Photoshop and Illustrator. When I click to update, they both downloaded and attempted to install and in the middle of this process, Application Manager shows that the updates fail. After this, upon restart of my Mac–running Lion–Illustrator shows that it's up to date in the Application Manager and Photoshop shows an update is available. Upon trying to re-update Photoshop again, the update fails again and again.
I have updated before a few days ago with no problem, so I don't understand why the updates are failing and why after doing so, now Illustrator shows that it is up to date and Photoshop does not.
Has anyone else had this problem and if so, does anyone know why and what I can do about it?
    Thank you.

    Hi Richei Creative,
    These would be my suggestions:
Create a new user account with administrative rights, log out of your current account and into that one, launch Adobe Application Manager and attempt the Photoshop update again.
Instructions if you need them  - http://support.apple.com/kb/PH11468
If this fails, uninstall Photoshop (Applications > Utilities > Adobe Installers) and reinstall Photoshop then from Adobe Application Manager the attempt the Photoshop update again, also from the newly created user account.
    Hope these help,
    -Dave

  • Images in Photoshop and Lightroom not matching on external display

On my external display the same image viewed in Photoshop and Lightroom is diplayed differently.
    My set up:
Macbook pro running Mountain Lion (10.8.4), DVI connected NEC Spectraview 271. Photoshop CS4 and Lightroom 5. Both displays calibrated using Spectraview 5 software and an Eye one pro puck. Photoshop working space is Prophoto RGB and is set to preserve embedded profiles. I'm using Andrew Rodney's and Bill Atkinson's test images to try and figure this out.
    Behaviour:
With the same image displayed in Lightroom and Photoshop on the Macbook screen they match perfectly. If I drag the Lightroom window across to the NEC it changes (as you would expect - richer colours & higher contrast). If I drag the Photoshop image across to the NEC it also changes but no longer matches the Lightroom image (cooler colours).
So, I don't really know whether Photoshop or Lightroom is displaying correctly, and whether they or the OS are to blame. I had assumed it was Lightroom as the image is more pleasing but this obviously isn't necessarily the case. What is clear is that somewhere there is a difference between how Lightroom and Photoshop are converting the image numbers for monitor display on the NEC.
Does anyone know how to find out what display profile Lightroom and Photoshop are using?
Is it possible they are both using the same profile but one is not using the NEC hardware calibration? (Seems unlikely as I assume it would be impossible for the NEC to be using different internal look up tables at the same time)
Could the OS be tripping up one and not the other in some way?
Could the X-rite software (which I don't use but is installed) somehow be interfering?
Anybody able to shed some light?
    Thanks for any help,
    Tom

I'm having trouble with Lightroom 5 soft proofing with reds too.  To rid my propossed print of a gamut warning I must totally desaturate or change my paper profile to glossy (or both).  This is odd because my monitor is calibrated, I'm using the correct paper profiles etc and when I ignore the gamut warning my prints are looking good. This isn't helpful to you but at least your not alone....

  • Can anyone recommend a process for moving just my OS and Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom to the SSD?

I have an early 2011 MBP running Mountain Lion. I just removed the superdrive and added an SSD. I want to use it to boot from and also run Photoshop and Lightroom from. Can anyone recommend a process for moving my OS and those programs to the SSD?

I'm assuming your doing this because of data you don't want pernament on the SSD as they can' be scrubbed like hard drives can.
    Disconnect any other drives.
1: Format the SSD 1 partition, click the box, option GUID and OS X extended journaled as the format.
    2: Download Carbon Copy Cloner.
3: Clone your MacintoshHD partition to a blank powered external drive also formatted the same as above.
4: Hold option/alt key and boot the machine (wired or built in keyboard) and then select the clone to boot from,
5: Once in the clone, click it's drive name and change the name if it's the same as the OS X boot volume.
6: On the clone, head to System Preferences > Accounts and create a new Admin account.
7: If you need to move files between accounts on the clone, see this. Combine two+ Users Accounts on the same machine   (be careful that your selecting the correct clones other account)
8: Once your moving files on the clone is complete, then log into the new user account and delete the old user account.
9: Use Carbon Copy Cloner to clone the clone to the SSD.
10: Use Disk Utiltiy to repair permissions on all drives.
The SSD should be moved to the HD slot and the HD to the optical slot and used as a file drive.
CCC has a option to not include certain folders like the other user account you don't want, however I tend not to recommend things that are not too far out of line with Apple's ways of doing things as it usually results in bad things occuring. Somewhere in OS X it's recorded of that other user account, so it might still show up in logins and such.
Also you may want to transfer some files to the other account, so that's why I recommend this method.
    Good Luck

Does CS5, specifically Photoshop and InDesign, work with Mac's Lion OX?

Thanks.  I appreciate you getting back with me so quickly.

  • I ordered Adobe Photoshop and downloaded it. Cant find it on my computer to use it? Have a Mac

I ordered Adobe PhotoShop and downloaded it but can not find it on my computer?
    Have a Mac Book Pro

open your cc app and see if it's listed as installed or available for installation.
    if neither,
    1.  quit the app (from the task bar) and relaunch.  if that fails:
    2.  Remove the OPM.db file and relogin into the Creative Cloud desktop application using the Adobe ID tied to your subscription.
Mac OS: You can locate the OPM.db file in the \User\<user name>\Library\Application Support\Adobe\OOBE folder. To access the hidden user Library folder, see Access hidden user library files | Mac OS 10.7 Lion.
Windows: You can locate the OPM.db file in the \Users\<user name>\AppData\Local\Adobe\OOBE folder.  To view the hidden AppData folder, see Show hidden files, folders, filename extensions | Windows XP, Vista, Windows 7.

  • What is the optimum core configuration for a new Mac Pro to process and manipulate very large (80 megapixel) images using PhotoShop and Camera Raw?

    Hello:
I will be using creative techniques to process and manipulate a large number (hundreds) of very large (80 megapixel) images captured using a medium format digital back (Phase One IQ180).
Final output will be digital fine art imagery printed using an Epson 11880 at large sizes (up to 60 inches x ?), retaining the highest possible quality and resolution. I will be using Adobe CC PhotoShop and Camera RAW as well as Capture One software. PhotoShop filters will be used extensively.
The Mac Pro needs to be optimized for the above purpose and be useful for at least five years. I plan to max out all the other options (RAM, graphics cards, storage). Performance is more important than cost.
The few discussions I have found that mention optimum core configurations seem to lean toward 6 or 8 (but likely are not taking into consideration my need for manipulating a large number of very large files), so I am looking to this foum for opinions.
    Thank you,
    Kent
