Photoshop and NVIDIA display errors
I have PS CS5 and an HP pc with an integrated NVIDIA display controller.
Just recently, PS has started crashing the video controller and each time PS is closed down. Very annoying.
I have u/g to the latest NVIDIA drivers, but its still happening. I have also just cleaned my registry from errors.
Does anyone else have the same issue and any ideas on how to resolve it?
Many thanks
Photoshop relies heavily on the OpenGL implementation in the display driver. It's possible nVidia has left bugs in the driver for your particular hardware.
What machine/display interface is it, specifically?
Here are the settings you want to experiment with to see if changing the way Photoshop uses OpenGL will help:
Edit - Preferences - Performance.
In the GPU Settings section, click the [Advanced Settings...] button.
Try unchecking Vertical Sync.
Try changing the Mode (e.g. from Normal to Basic).
I suggest changing one thing at a time, and after making each change close and restart Photoshop so the settings are saved and it reinitializes with the new settings. Then, after each change, test to see if the problem is averted.
If you still see problems, you can try disabling OpenGL usage entirely by unchecking the [ ] Enable OpenGL Drawing setting in the main Performance dialog.
This page describes the OpenGL-based features in PS CS5:
http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/405/kb405745.html
If all else fails, can your PC take an add-on graphics card? I'm thinking you could disable the integrated controller and switch to a card known to work well with Photoshop, possibly even another brand than nVidia.

Is unibody MPB and NViDia display driver compatible?
After a grueling few weeks, I FINALLY got the apple drivers to install on my unibody MBP (boot camp 2.1) without error. Of course, installing and working are not the same thing.
The NVidia display drivers install properly. But, when you right click on the desktop and choose NVidia Control Panel, it fails to open with a programing bug type error.
Any way to correct this?
Bobno replies, problem still exits, but marking answered.

Application does not open and not display errors.
The application is CoView.
It worked perfectly, but one day try to use it and did not work.
The process starts and then ends without displaying any error window.
I have two files .WER
I ran the application on other computers and works smoothly.

So I will start looking now for a Photoshop program which will work properly with the Retina.
The professional version of Photoshop does support the Retina display. But that's probably too expensive. However, Elements is based on the pro version so probably a future Elements version will support the Retina, but no one knows when that will come out. -

Photoshop CC 14.2.1 and NVidia GTX 660 Display Problems
I'm having exactly this problem:
http://forums.adobe.com/message/6264980
The fix documented at the end of that thread works but the penalty is a loss of performance. In an attempt to fix it, I updated to the latest drivers from NVidia for the GTX 660 and as a result, further problems occur:
This sometimes happens when using the crop and straighten tool at 100%.
More often though, irrespective of zoom settings I get:
This happens quite frequently with the dust and scratches/surface blur tools too. Or even on occasion when duplicating a layer or merging layers.
The following gets written out to the event log:
Faulting application name: Photoshop.exe, version: 14.2.1.570, time stamp: 0x52f4a9f2

For now I'm using the following work around but with some performance penalty:
Drawing mode: Basic (resolves the issue with mask overlay being patchy and rendering slowly at 100% zoom)
OpenCL: Disabled (resolves Photoshop crashing with crop/straighten and other tools as described above)
This needs to be fixed! The reduced performance increases the time I spend editing, particularly a large product shoot undertaken recently for a client.

Installed TWAIN devices: NONEMy advice: Rather that wait hopefully, try some alternate configuration settings.
Specifically, go into your Preferences - Performance - Advanced Settings panel, and try the different options there, making sure to close Photoshop and restart it after each change, then test.
It's possible Photoshop asked the nVidia display driver what it can do, and it said it could do something very advanced, but in the driver implementation some part of that advanced operation is run in the CPU, not the GPU. NVidia has been known to do this!
Thus it may be that if you choose a lesser drawing mode or change something (e.g., 30 bit display) you might find that particular combination of settings makes things run faster.

"Display driver stopped responding and has recovered" error
Hi, I recently upgraded my laptop to Windows 8.1 and now from time to time, I am receiving the error above on the right side of the screen and my photoshop files won't open. Instead it just freezes and becomes unresponsive so I have to close Photoshop from going to 'End Task'. I don't know whether it was the Windows upgrade that caused this because it has never happened before. Is there any way to fix this issue because I am not even able to use the program. By the way, I am using CS6.
I have two different ones: Intel (the one that's causing the problem) and NVIDIA. However when I tried uninstalling and deleting the Intel, I noticed it was back in the 'Display Adapters'. I never had this problem until now.

Why can't I use my mid 2010 macbook pro with 8GB memoir and NVIDIA GEForce GT 330M 256MB to run 3D in photoshop CC?
3-D is very memory intensive.
System requirements | Photoshop
Mac OS
Multicore Intel processor with 64-bit support
Mac OS X v10.7, v10.8, or v10.9
2 GB of RAM (8 GB recommended)
3.2 GB of available hard-disk space for installation; additional free space required during installation (cannot install on a volume that uses a case-sensitive file system or on removable flash storage devices)
1024x768 display (1280x800 recommended) with 16-bit color and 512 MB of VRAM (1 GB recommended)**
OpenGL 2.0–capable system
Internet connection and registration are necessary for required software activation, membership validation, and access to online services.*
** 3D features are disabled and some Mercury Graphics Engine enhanced features may not work with less than 512 MB VRAM. Read the Help article.
Bottom line, you don't have enough VRAM

Photoshop CS5 and NVIDIA GeForce GTX 295 Crash
My specifications:
Photoshop CS5 (x64)
Windows 7 x64
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 295 (latest v197.45 driver)
Intel i7 920 2.67 GHz
My card is listed as a tested card for CS5 and NVIDIA says this is compatible with CS5, but today after using it, my screen went blank and the display driver recovered itself. It took about 5 minutes until Photoshop CS5 became responsive again and the GPU features were disabled. I am going to try GPU advanced mode and basic mode instead of normal mode to see what happens, but this is a shame that I have issues like this. I also had issues with CS4 like this.
What I did to cause this issue: I clicked" Place.." to place an object and that is when it crashed. It only happens randomly as I use Photoshop. Please NVIDIA or Adobe fix this issue. I love the GPU features and I want to run them, but this crashing is annoying for spending so much on buying this product. I hate to have to pay to contact Adobe technical support, it should be included with the purchase of software!
How to fix this without having to go to basic GPU mode or disabled GPU mode?function(){return A.apply(null,[this].concat($A(arguments)))}

With my own problems and a keen observer of this thread it making me think that I should stay away from Nvidia cards cards completed and go ATI
It comes down to policies within companies that in some cases we simply cannot know.
For example:
Does nVidia or ATI have a better plan to support cards with new drivers into the future? My experience is that right now, with my particular video card, ATI does a better job of making new features available (and making them work right) than nVidia. Is this based on support policy or simply what the engineers can and can't do? Maybe it's partially a matter of funding.
Who has a better handle on how to develop unified software and keep it working on all a whole family of cards? What is their software quality? I am active on Windows forums, and it sure seemed to take nVidia a lot longer to stabilize their drivers for Windows 7 than ATI.
Who has a better test lab? You can imagine that if one company has a better built/funded/maintained test lab, they're more likely to make new versions of drivers for old cards work properly if they have a computer set aside somewhere with that old card in it just waiting to try out new drivers. Unfortunately you can imagine with these companies making many, many new models all the time that funding that lab (and funding the MAINTENANCE of that lab) could get to be HUGE!
Lastly, how much do Marketing or other greedy business people influence company direction, vs. Engineers? Imagine a Marketing person's thoughts: "Stop making new drivers for that old card; we're not selling those and haven't for a long time. If a person has one and can't run the latest game or graphics software, he'll go buy a new one, and that's more money for us."
By the way, just to get an idea of how many different cards we're talking about, look at the sheer number of models listed in the various lists on this page: http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/
Just food for thought.
