Photoshop and Retina display

I seem to be unable to use PS 5.5 on my new machine. If I open a file the items like Layers, Channels, etc. might or might not be visible but the actual file seems to be somewhere else.

So I will start looking now for a Photoshop program which will work properly with the Retina.
The professional version of Photoshop does support the Retina display. But that's probably too expensive. However, Elements is based on the pro version so probably a future Elements version will support the Retina, but no one knows when that will come out.

Mac Perpetual CS6 current version is 13.0.6 the subscription version is version 13.1.2.  How are you trying to update to 13.1.?? do you have a Creative Cloud Subscription?

  • Cs6 and retina display not working well together please help

I just purchased a membership for creative cloud and installed photoshop and illustrator on a new retina display mac book pro. The interfaces look pixelated including the artboards. All updates are current.
I read that adobe latest updates are optimized for retina display. I have no idea what went wrong.
    Thanks for your time

Ask in the product forums for specifics. As a start, check the applications using File --> Get Info on teh executables. Verify, that not accidentally half res/ low DPI mode is enabled. Also check in the "About" info that you actualyl have PS 13.1 and AI 11.2, not the base install. Run the updater to obtain those latest free updated versions.

  • View images at 100% in photoshop on retina display does not work...

    using photoshop:
I have a 15" new macbook retina display. If I want to view a photograph at 100% it does not 'size up'.
for example, If I open the same image on my desktop iMac, I see the image in all its 100% glory, so I can work on it in photoshop.
If I view 100% on retina display the image is tiny ( not 100% )
I never had this problem on my older macbook, so why is it happening and can it be fixed?
My first though was that because there are 'more' pixels, the image is 100% BUT looks smaller on screen for some reason due to pixel count...
Thank you in advance for any help!
    cheers

    Hi Nealeh
Thanks i think I got it working of a fashion.
Except the replace colour, does not seem to end up with the colour I picked using the picker tool. Its as though it hads not replaced the colour but blended in the desired colour with the old incorrect colour!
Buy trial and error picking not the right colour but close - which when mixed with the existing colour is close.
Sorry I can't post the pictures as the Lingerie Mfg, has me under non disclosure.
The scenario is:-  say a blonded mainly tanned model a high cut [at the hips] corsette style basque, with an ultra low bra line.
Our dear model, has just come back from St Barts with a fabulous Tan, and equally striking bold Tan lines!.
So we have great tanned legs, then the 'porcelain white band' where her swimsuit was.
Likewise we have a tanned face, and arms, shoulders etc and a great tan on the top of the cleavage, then it stops, white band to the top of the ultralow cut bra line of the basque.
She must have lived in like the most conservative bikini on the planet [50's style], for 2 weeks!
Had she had a normal skimpy bikini on, no problem!
If i don't solve it, she will get fired!
Not a lack of interest in your post, but I was out, and tried to log in to this site; which I could do, on my iPad Air / 5 [whatever its the new one]. And tried to 'sign in' - but it just hung at the
"Join Adobe Community" adobe sign in splash screen! with he little whell spinning around continuously!!!
I have Safari on this iPad. Guess that is all it runs.
So technology is not my friend today!

  • Compatibility issues MacBook (Yosemite and Retina Display) and CS6?

I recently had to buy a new MacBook because of a mainboard defect of my old one. The old one had one of those fabulous anti-glare-displays with high resolution.
Now, the just sell these retina displays, which I detest.
I tried to work with Photoshop and InDesign. It is almost impossible to do so, because everything looks blurred. I have no idea how to fix it. Neither does Apple Support.
I´d hate if I had to switch to Creative Cloud because it is way to pricey for a part-time user like me.
So I´d be very, very happy if someone would happen to know a way out of misery for this.
    Thanks in advance!

There is nothing to fix. In CS6 only PS and AI support Retina and you do that by installing the respective updates.

  • Adobe indesign and retina display incompatible?

The type in my Indesign documents look fuzzy. Did some searching and found out that Indesign is not yet upgraded to meet the needs of retina display. Does anyone know if I buy a external monitor, would that solve the problem temporarily? Also, does anyone know if Adobe has plans to update Indesign, I did read they were on top of photoshop and illustrator, but nothing about indesign.

Yes, if you buy and external monitor it will be normal. Adobe just brought retina support to CS6 Photoshop and Illustrator but I have no idea when it's coming to Indesign. You'd think that would be a big priority as well.

  • Photoshop & Macbook Retina display

Does Photoshop support the new Macbook Pro Retina display?

    Chris Cox wrote:
If the user hasn't changed the OS scaling preferences, then Photoshop on a retina display will look just like Photoshop on a non-retina display.
It just won't have smooth text and UI edges that the increased resolution offers, and the image won't be using the full resolution of the display because the OS will be doubling all the pixels automatically.
MacOS on the new machines offers several choices for how to scale applications, including several choices for dealing with apps that don't know about high resolution displays.
So what your writing is Apple realizes there is a problem running programs written for older low resolution displays. So they have programmed into their OSX system options to scale up application windows to simulate running on a lower resolution device.   Things will appear larger and less sharp then they actually are.  Whoop de do. Why pay for a retina display and not use its resolution. Scaling windows up in size is like using 1/4 the retina pixel for every pixel you display Apple scales it to use 4 of the retina display pixels so the pixels is as large as it would be on a 100dpi display.   Just buy a normal lower resolution and don't have the overhead required to scale windows up to simulate 100dpi to use a 226dpi display as a 100dpi device. Waste of money and resources. Applications like Photoshop need to be changed or run on a 100dpi display.
Photoshop has no problem with images and high resolution displays.  Photoshop scales image windows content all the time. Its second nature for us to zoom images and pan about them and also change the window size on screen. The only problem there is is that Photoshop can not zoom its Dialogs and Paletts and bars  Photoshop at best offeres one, two or three size options for these and they were designed for displays that have a resolution around 100DPI.  On a 226 or 326 DPI display these areas will be so physically small you will have difficulty reading the small text and making out which small icon your seeing within these areas.
I find all versions of Photoshop with the exception of CS6 quite useable on my 133DPI displays. The GUI is on the small side. With a magnifying glass or software magnifying glass to see the GUI I would think Photoshop would be useable on a retina display using its native 226Dpi resolution. Its the GUI physical pixel size that is a problem not the 226DPI resolution. If you double the resolution of a display the size of an object becomes 1/4 the size it was on the lower resolution display. If the displays pixel count is not increased the display will be 1/4 the size of the lower resolution display. let get Physical

I use a lot of university software via Remote Desktop connection, it worked very well on my Acer laptop. it's really important that that this staff works as good on my new computer. I tried with different resolution settings, making it bigger or smaller but the display is still not great. Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated.

  • Photoshop on Retina Display

I'm thinking to buying new Mac book pro but I've heard photoshop doesn't look very well on the retina display.
    Is it true??
I use CS6 mainly but also use CS5 sometime.
Someone said there is a free update for CS6, so what happened CS5?
    Can't I use CS5 on the monitor?

I believe CS6 has retina support.  Neither CS5, or any other old version of Photoshop will ever have Retina Support.
As to how PS looks on a Retina screen, I believe it is OK for photo editing, but there are issues if you are a web developer - for obvious reasons.
I am sure someone with actual experience will be along to tell you more.

    3. connecting external monitor; waiting for it to 'wake up';
then 4. closing lid of MBP to activate clamshell mode?

  • Why can't we have superdrive and retina display and HDMI in one macbook pro?

Its good to have a lighter macbook pro for those who don't need the superdrive....BUT, What about those (like myself) who desperately want a superdrive in their macbook pro and also the retina display!!  And, Why can't we have a regular HDMI in macbook pro with a superdrive....this is so frustrating!  Whats wrong with apple!

I might actually buy a windows laptop.  So sad.
No need, as long as Apple continues to offer a notebook line-up that includes built-in optical drives, to buy a Windows machine... yet.
As I said, the only thing that I use my SuperDrive for now is backups of all those digital software deliveries, documents, etc. If I finally break down and buy an external Blu-ray drive, I won't use the SuperDrive at all. But right now I have almost 12 years of back-ups on DVD, both single and dual layer - so, for now, I need my optical drive.
I'm hoping that - one day - Apple will sell MacBook Pros with Blu-ray drives. Hey, I can wish, right?

  • Premiere Pro CS6 and Retina Display

How do you use Prem CS6 in iPad for Retina Display?
    Thanks,
    Joe

The answer is very similar to the one you got in the Lightroom forum.  "Retina" is just a marketing term for a high-resolution display.
    To quote from that topic:
The iPad retina display is 2048x1536 so those are the pixel dimensions you'd set in the Export dialog.
Do the same thing in Premiere Pro.  Use an H.264 preset that has the frame dimensions that you want.  It looks like you can start with an Apple iPad2/iPhone 4S preset and modify that.

  • Preview app and retina display problem after installing Maverick

Hi everyone, i upgraded to Maverick yesterday and i now have a problem with the software "Preview 7.0". I've got a macbook pro 13" retina.
Before Maverick i could visualise image in high resolution using Preview, and the 100% view was showing the image full quality. Now my Preview software acts like i'm not on retina and i can only visualise my images with the resolution of a standard monitor.
Does it make sense ? Please help !!!

I'm having the same issue with Preview not displaying images at the correct resolution.  If you also look at the info in Preview, there are metadata issues showing up.  Under "Creator's Contact Info" this is the info displayed.

  • Photoshop and Retina Screen

I have just bought a Macbook Pro with Retina Screen. When I am using Photoshop on it, it scales my photos down to twice the size. Now I learned that to get the right size of your pictures you will have to make Photoshop open i Low Resolution. But by doing this it (of course) doesn't look as sharp as it would in high resolution. Now my question is whether it is best to make your photos, gifs etc. in the low resolution or in the high/normal one. Does it still save your photos in high resolution when you opened them in low resolution, or will you have to use the high/normal resolution and then edit the pictures when they look much smaller?
Does a Retina Screen effect the quality of your things negatively?

Posting this here, in hope that it helps generate some answers.
I've been combing the web for a solution and nothing in site. I'm on MacBookPro Retina 15" running CS6 13.0.6.
Why can't Adobe PS render at same size as every other program? As a designer, 'lo-res mode' is not an option.
I'm attaching a screenshot of he SAME 480x480 IMAGE in photoshop, chrome and safari.
Can you imagine, as a web designer, how it's hard to work like this? There is no longer the 1:1 ratio that I get from CS6 on my iMac or PC.
Here's a screenshot of the SAME IMAGE on CS6 (at 200%) and Chrome (at 100%)... Pretty close!, but upon close examination, there's pixelation in CS6 side that's not there in the actual image. So, not comfortable with that workflow. I have relied on Photoshop as a pixel-perfect product for ~20yrs... now I can't use it on this machine.
I mean, even when I go to Help > Update ... the PS program's dialogue text is pixelated! Something is very 'off' here. Is this issue fixed in the CC version?
Need some answers, or it's time to look for new options.
    Thanks!
