Photoshop and Retina Screen

I have just bought a Macbook Pro with Retina Screen. When I am using Photoshop on it, it scales my photos down to twice the size. Now I learned that to get the right size of your pictures you will have to make Photoshop open i Low Resolution. But by doing this it (of course) doesn't look as sharp as it would in high resolution. Now my question is whether it is best to make your photos, gifs etc. in the low resolution or in the high/normal one. Does it still save your photos in high resolution when you opened them in low resolution, or will you have to use the high/normal resolution and then edit the pictures when they look much smaller?
Does a Retina Screen effect the quality of your things negatively?

I've been combing the web for a solution and nothing in site. I'm on MacBookPro Retina 15" running CS6 13.0.6.
Why can't Adobe PS render at same size as every other program? As a designer, 'lo-res mode' is not an option.
I'm attaching a screenshot of he SAME 480x480 IMAGE in photoshop, chrome and safari.
Can you imagine, as a web designer, how it's hard to work like this? There is no longer the 1:1 ratio that I get from CS6 on my iMac or PC.
Here's a screenshot of the SAME IMAGE on CS6 (at 200%) and Chrome (at 100%)... Pretty close!, but upon close examination, there's pixelation in CS6 side that's not there in the actual image. So, not comfortable with that workflow. I have relied on Photoshop as a pixel-perfect product for ~20yrs... now I can't use it on this machine.
I mean, even when I go to Help > Update ... the PS program's dialogue text is pixelated! Something is very 'off' here. Is this issue fixed in the CC version?
Need some answers, or it's time to look for new options.

I seem to be unable to use PS 5.5 on my new machine. If I open a file the items like Layers, Channels, etc. might or might not be visible but the actual file seems to be somewhere else.

The professional version of Photoshop does support the Retina display. But that's probably too expensive. However, Elements is based on the pro version so probably a future Elements version will support the Retina, but no one knows when that will come out.

Photoshop, Retina screen and designing for Android

I'm struggling to understand how to design a mobile interface for Android on Photoshop. I know the screen resolution should be at 160dpi - but how do I then work out actual pixel size to ensure accurate layout and size of elements on my retina screen?

I used to recommend Sophos, but after dealing with a few Machines that got infected with Malware I wrote to Sophos. They claimed that they do not scan for Trojans and adware.
That is absolutely incorrect. Sophos certainly does scan for and detect trojans as well as at least some adware. The vast majority of Mac malware is in the form of trojans, and in my testing it performs quite admirably in detecting those. As for adware, I know for a fact that it detects things like FkCodec, ClickAgent, Yontoo and Genieo - all adware.
Unlike what others have said in here, avast has never reported a false positive.
Perhaps you haven't seen it, but that doesn't mean it doesn't happen. Take for example the bootroot.loader file, which is on every Mac and which Avast has been sporadically identifying as a "decompression bomb" for years.

I've seen other reports from time to time as well, both here and via private e-mail.
It may not happen for everyone - evidently, it doesn't, or everyone would be complaining. However, the consequences of a false positive can be very bad for the few who do encounter it.

Photoshop CS6 looks pixelated on Mac Retina screen

I have Photoshop CS6 running on a MacBook Pro with a 15" retina screen. By default it runs in low-resolution, which makes everything pixelated. When I right-click on the app and go to "Get Info" I see an option to "Open in Low Resolution". When I uncheck it Photoshop opens in high-resolution and it looks beautiful, but it's unusable: I can't click on any of the tools, the sidebars, or anything. So I bring it back to low-resolution and everything works well, except that it looks pixelated again.
I have the 13.0 update (the latest one) and there aren't any additional updates according to Photoshop.
Is there any way to have Photoshop CS6 run in high-resolution?

Thank you, Gene, but that's exactly what I was trying before and it doesn't work. In my OP I explained what happens when I try that:

When I open Photoshop and go to Help > System Info this is what I see:

It's not 13.0.6. However, when I go to Help > Updates it tells me that all my applications are already up-to-date.
Any other ideas?

How do InDesign documents compare on retina and non-retina screens?

I've heard that InDesign looks bad on retina screens, but I don't live near a mac dealer and I can't see any photos anywhere to judge for myself.
Does anyone have any photos which could show how it compares to a non-retina mac?

I am running Adobe Acrobat Pro Version 9.5.5. I do not remember whether it came with Photoshop or InDesign.
When I open Photoshop, it opens without my having to follow any instructions to activate the software. As a matter of fact, I cannot find my Photoshop serial number anywhere in the Photoshop program itself. I do know it from my profile at Adobe.com. Are you suggesting I deactivate Photoshop on the new computer and then reactivate it using my serial number? Will it reactivate?

what do you mean? I do not have a startup disk. I have the original installation disk but that version of Photoshop has been updated a few times.
After staring at your instructions for a while, I realized that you might be talking about the Library/Application Support folders resident on my Macintosh HD, although why you called it a startup disk is unclear to me. IAC, I went into those folders and duly moved the three folders into a new folder I called “Acrob1” and restarted Adobe Acrobat 9 and got the following error message: “AMT Subsystem Failure The licensing subsystem has failed catastrophically. You must reinstall of call customer support.” with a small (6).
By undoing my actions I am back to the staus quo ante.
Now what?

Does anyone else have problems with retina screens? My eyes are constantly hurting and my eyesight is getting worse in a short period of time.

I've been using high quality retina screens for about nine months now and my vision has gone downhill quickly. I got my first ever prescription for eye glasses and my eyes are constantly strained. High resolution screens also cause other problems with my normal work flow as a web designer but that is a whole other topic.

try turning down the brightness, If i even have it past half way my eyes hurt. maybe it'll help

Reset the device:

When I have finished working on an image in Photoshop and I hit the save button it goes instead to the "save as" screen. This never happened in previous Photoshop versions. When I get to Lightroom, I have a grey screen the says "File could not be found."

When I select the correct image, I get a message that it is not the same file name but I am eventually able to access the image. Needless to say this is having a negative impact on workflow!

The problem with write permissions for the OneDrive folder only shows up in Lightroom 6's export dialogue, that's why it's to irritating. Lightroom 5.7.1 is not having that problem nor does the file explorer. The problem also exists on both of my machines. Hello everyone. Recently I bought the New Razer Blade (2014). It has a high resolution of 3200 x 1800 and a screen size of 14 inch. It is that I downloaded the Photoshop CC that I realize that the words are so small it is actually causing a problem for the users. I searched online for helps and learned that the only way to change this is to wait for the developers of the Photoshop CC to make and update to make it compatible. The source of this idea is from a guy have the same computer and the same problem. He updated his Lightroom and the interface ungraded into one that he can use with ease and he hopes that the Adobe company will update Photoshop CC also and fix the resolution problem too. I thought that after another update, Photoshop CC will have it visual update too. However, the last update from a few days ago didn't solve this problem. I wonder if The Adobe company knows about this problem and that's the main reason I'm starting a discussion on this topic. The same goes to the Audition CC and the Premiere Pro CC. These 3 are the most important tools for my and this computer is the only good one that I can have right now. I have tried lowering my resolution but everything else became difficult to use. If I'm using the Photoshop CC, I of course wouldn't want to use a resolution that is too low to edit my pictures.
This is my problem and I wish someone can do something about the visual updates of Photoshop, Audition, and Premiere Pro so that they are compatible with the New Razer Blade (2014) 14 inch screen. Just like Lightroom.

What version of OS X are you using? If Yosemite, you need to update to 10.10.1 or higher.

How to Get Proper Video Screen Captures (Screencasts) of Photoshop and Lightroom in Win?

Hello. I would like to get proper screen captures of Lightroom and Photoshop on Win 7/64, showing all screen elements as you see them. I tried FastStone Capture 8 and SnagIt 11.1, but they have various differing issues. Do you have a good hint?
What's more: In my screen capture, i also want a mouse-click-sound each and every time the mouse is clicked. This is not "system audio", because the computer doesn't play a sound for every ordinary click. The capture software must add that sound. (I'm aware i can add the sound manually in post production, but want it recorded together with video.)
Experience with Faststone Capture 8's video captures:
I get well usable footage
Does optionally record mouse-click-sound for each click, with adjustable volume
Does not properly record some elements of Photoshop or Lightroom screens:
- cursors sometimes look rough or double-sized
- Lightrooms "TAT (Target Correction Tool)" disappears while being dragged on the image
- the color selector box of Lightroom's Adjustment Brush is not shown, while the cursor working within that color selector box is shown
- Lightroom's three-second-splash-message after Undo etc. is not shown
(All these missing elements do show up in *still* captures with Faststone Capture. They also *do* show up in video captures done with SnagIt, see below)
Experience with Snagit 11.1's video captures:
Does properly capture all those elements that FastStone does *not* capture (listed above)
Does *not* optionally include a mouse-click-sound for each and every mouse click (they record "system audio", but a sound on every click is not "system audio", so a regular click on a menu item has no sound)
Videos are less smooth, cursor sometimes "jumping"
Now, do you know a screen capture software for Win 7 that can
properly record *anything* that's seen within Lightroom and Photoshop
and automatically add a mouse-click-sound for each and every click i do
and produce smooth footage without "jumping cursors"?

.camrec format isn't offered for recording, only .trec and .avi (on Win 7), but trec is usable just as .camrec i guess
Exported MP4 looks blurry and has colour blotches, that are not visible in the initial recording, only after exporting; this doesn't change at all after setting very high quality MP4 options; i guess i didn't look properly
i see how to add mouse-click sounds; i don't like the sound they provide so much; maybe it can be exchanged.

Adobe Acrobat X 10.1.13 documents and InDesign CS6 looks very blurry on retina screen

I received an upgrade to my Adobe creative suite 5.5 to CS6.
On my macbook pro retina late 2013 15 inch screen, I currently have Adobe CS6 Design Premium, among these apps, I got Adobe acrobat pro, and recently updated my Acrobat Pro to 10.1.13. However, documents in this app have very blurry text.
I also have adobe InDesingn CS6 version 8.0, and text looks blurry on this as well.
are there any updates to these apps so they look ok on my retina screen? or does CS6 not support retina?

Could you please try this out:
Open Acrobat and go to "Edit -> Preferences -> Page Display"
Under Smooth Text label, please select 'For Laptop/LCD screens' and click ok.
Now, check if the text still looks blurry.

How can I make title screens in either Illustrator or Photoshop and import them into Premiere Pro?

I'm having trouble finding the identical aspect ratio to import either an Illustrator or Photoshop title screen into Premiere Pro. There are so many ratios to choose from with Premiere Pro that I've about lost my mind. I was able to import Photoshop title screens into iMovie with no problem. I'll be importing the finished video into my YouTube channel. I want it to be widescreen but have no clue which ratio to use. Thanks for any help you can provide.

I always start with New Image in Photoshop, and then choose a Video Preset, that matches my PrPro Sequence. I use one with Guides. I usually choose to create that New Image with a Transparent Background.
Once complete, I just do a Save_As to PSD, which will be Imported into PrPro. If you have Ps Layers, you have two choices on Import: you can Import as Footage, which will Flatten your Layers, or you can Import as a Sequence to keep the Layers separate. Depending on what I will be doing, I might select one, or the other. If you Import as a Sequence, you can then animate each Layer individually.

It is unbelievable that such an expensive software does not provide a proper lay out wit a high screen resolution!

IPhone Retina Screen, Digitizer, and Glass Destroyed

Hi All,
So the sad, simple, and short version of my story is that my iPhone 4 was run over by a car last night. As you can imagine, it is not in pretty shape. The glass is cracked (so bad that small shards of glass are falling out) and the Retina screen is also destroyed. By destroyed, I mean that I can see black and white lines on only part of the screen (the rest being either blank or cracked LCD fluid) signifying that the screen is still receiving power, yet no image at all (other than the black and white lines) is shown on the screen.
The phone is still capable of making phone calls, receiving emails, and playing music, but obviosuly I can not see or interact with the phone other than through voice command.
So to the question. I am fairly handy with electronics and feel that replacing the Retina display, digitizer, and front glass would not be that hard of a task. However, before I purchase a new screen, I wanted to make sure that the issues I am seeing are merely caused by a busted Retina display and digitizer, and not a broken GPU or other motherboard issues. Does anyone know how I might be able to confirm this?

Verify that the iPhone connects to iTunes correctly. Verify that the battery charges normally. Verify that the Home button functions, use Voice to open an App, make sure it is closed back up by Home button. Verify that Power button works, if you can verify if it wakes from sleep or something. Verify Mute/Vibrate switch works. Verify Volume buttons work. That is all I can think of as a good start. If these all worked I'd be happy.
