Photoshop appears to save, but hasn't.

I, as well as a couple other coworkers are having an issue. We're working with rather large files, notably due to many nested smart objects. We hit save and everything appears as though it is saving, only to find out after we've closed out the file that it hasn't been saved. Or portions of the work we did were saved but not the entirety, and out of chronological order. Though we are connected to a series of networked servers, we do all of our work locally and save locally before copying the files back to the server. This has affected 5 people so far and started occurring within the last two weeks. We've been doing this sort of work for over 4 years here and never encountered this problem.
We're pretty desperate to see if there's some sort of answer. So far our only solution is to keep saving the file in different locations on our system with different names, just in case.
We are all running on Mac OSX Lion 10.7.3 and Photoshop CS5 12.0.4.

I know this is an old thread, but I am having the same issue, and I was wondering if anyone found a solution. I never had an issue with CS5. Mine came along with CS6, and it continues to CC that I just downloaded today. I will do a few edits on a file, and save the layered PSD. As I continue working, I save frequently just out of habit. When I am finished working on a file, I save it again using the shortcut CMD+S. The bar goes to 100% and disappears, and the darker middle dot in the red close button goes away. (I'm using a mac) The file appears to have saved. I close it, and Photoshop does not display any kind of error or message to show that it isn't saved. When I reopen the file, it's fairly random if the file is perfectly fine or if my last few edits didn't save. Sometimes none of my layers are there at all except for the background one, and all of my work is lost. I have been resorting to doing another "save as" before I close the file and adding "_backup" to the file name (i.e. IMG001_backup.psd) to force Photoshop to save another version of the file. This has always worked, but I shouldn't have to resort to such measures. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Ok, look at your files in Photoshop. What is the profile assigned to them? You can find this out by going to the Status bar at the bottom, clicking on the right-pointing triangle and choosing document Profile from the list.
Then in Windows, go to your Control Panel > Color Management and add sRGB (if it isn't there) and select it as your default profile.
I hope that will work.

On Mac OS, plugins are installed to a common location, usually ''' /Library/Internet Plugins''' for system-wide availability or to '''~/Library/Internet Plugins''' for a specific user. Ref: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Issues_related_to_plugins#Background

are you sure its not just the way you are viewing the photo? you don't even see noise on the preview in Bridge and when I say preview I mean when zooming into the preview window. My thought process being in PS you are zoomed in more

Photoshop doesn't save metadata

I try to write meta data to psd file.
i add resource block (as in photoshop file format.pdf) with custom number (4000 for example).
all data saved and photoshop correctly open file.
but when I click save, all my data disappear and are not saved.
Is there some custom resource block where i can save my custom data?

If I understand, you pushed some metadata in photoshop while loading an image and the data is not there anymore when saving the image.
I see 2 things that can happen:
1) the formatting of the metadata: you must follow exactly the description in
<rootDir>\Adobe Photoshop CS4 SDK\documentation\html\imageresourcessection.html
Be careful to have an even length (need to pad odd name length and binary data) for the string name and for the data itself
2) I am not sure about this but, in my experience, you cant use a custom number 4001 if you haven`t also used 4000 before. This means that you cant use arbitrary custom numbers for the id. They must all be there from 4000 (using 4000 and 4001 is ok, but using only 4001 will fail) . I found this in my tests but I may be wrong with this.

One thing to check is that your PSD is RGB/8 or /16, but not /32 (32 bits per channel)
If that is not the problem
Let's try this:
Close Adobe Photoshop if it is opened.
Find the following: (windows user can hit windows key + r, then in run cmd line type "%appdata%" to locate your "AppData\Roaming" directory)
\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CC\Adobe Preferences CC Settings
Rename the "Adobe Preferences CC Settings" folder to "Adobe Preferences CC Settings_old" so that preferences settings can be recreated.
Reopen Photoshop CC and open a new or existing file to verify that your "save for web" option is back and not grayed out.

my iphone will not allow me to save events on the calendar. I use the plus sign and get a screen to enter the event name and time but when I go to hit save, it is not there. When I hit "done" which is where the "save" button should be, the screen disappears and the event is not saved. I tried seeing if all of my calendars were on but that doesn't appear to be the issue.

Photoshop: How to save as a pdf and display description?

The only other Photoshop I ever used was CS3, and when I clicked "print" it saved as a pdf first, and I could choose to make it display different metadata. That feature has been removed for all newer versions for some reason, and I have no idea how to do what I want to do.
I need to save it as a pdf, and display the description/subject metadata under the photo. I can't find anything online on how to do this.

Please understand that "CS5" does not clear up the issue of what version of Photoshop you are using. "Photoshop CS5 12.0.1" would.
A screen capture would be very helpful.
Also, have you trued the Print command, then Save As PDF?

1) Apps are not part of the backup, only data stored by 3rd party apps. But you can redownload the apps for free again if you use the same account you did when you bought them the first time. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2519
2) See this article http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766 and find out what's in your backup.
3) Backup your itunes+ library (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1382 and http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1751), which will copy your Mobile Applications folder, and save your iphone backup folder as well
In other words, maintaining a backup of your computer is essential.
When you resync your apps from your computer to the phone, make sure your computer is authorized again. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1420

Photoshop opens a separate (but identical) window every time i select edit original in InDesign

I'm running CS5 and have a problem when editing linked files from InDesign.
As an example:
• I have an InDesign file that has a Photoshop file linked to it.
• I need to edit the linked file so i use the 'Edit Original' function in the Links Panel - this open the link in Photoshop.
• I edit and save but leave the file open
• InDesign updates the change but i need to change something else
• I use 'Edit Original' again but instead of taking me straight back to the PSD file i was just working on, Photoshop opens a new window that i am supposed to make changes to
• If i was to make 5 changes, there would be 5 separate, windows open in Photoshop
• Closing the file at the end of each change isn't an option as some Photoshop files exceed 1.5GB
Any suggestions...?

I concur, and am a little frustrated with suggestions that you should "simply" flip between apps. That isn't a solution, it's what you're forced to do because things aren't working properly.
I see you have been asking in the InDesign forum. I am surprised no one there suggested trashing your preferences. I would start there, I would also consider trashing Photoshop's preferences (I think it's much the same deal as ID, but you'd better check.)
I wonder what happens when you use Edit With > Photoshop. Does that behave the same?
And I can't help but wonder if it isn't something in your system. Does double-clicking a PSD in Finder work properly -- and twice in a row? Do you notice anything unusual at all? What about applets that commandeer shortcuts? Grasping at straws, but sometimes the way to fix a problem is to look where it can't be.

It happens in all formates I try such as JPEG, TIFF, PDF and PSD files.
It looks like broken pixel lines across and if it runs through a word or logo can break it up.
Please help???

I know you cant see probably from the photo below as I had to try to block out the faces, but the person on the far right, under her eyes you can see almost a double eye and then if you follw that line across the 2nd person from left look like funny chin.
This distortion happens horizontally.
Also see the letter number below. That break line runs across the entire page but is obviously more noticable in different areas of the image.

Photoshop won't save

Hi, Ever since I updated photoshop - I've had creativ cloud for 6 months or so working fine - updated photoshop last Friday and now photoshop doesn't save when I hit Command+S. I lost all my work on Friday. I would finish a file, hit command+S and close the file. There was no prompt asking if I wanted to save my work when the file closed but when I went to open back up everything was reverted back to the last time I hit Save As. Same thing happening today. Anyone else have this problem? Very distressing. I use photoshop professionally and lost a full day of work because of this glitch. Using Save As for everything today but I'm really disturbed by this glitch. Also Save As is taking up a lot of space as I save often. Any help is appreciated.

I wouldn't say this is a bug since many users are not experiencing it. I would start looking at something on the system that might be taking they keyboard commands and Photoshop is not getting the keystroke by chance?
Perhaps you could start with creating a new administrator user on the computer and see if you are able to reproduce this issue with a new user.

If that fixes it, then it could be a preference issue or user permissions, or some of the other factors that DocPixel has recommended.

When I try to use my brushes with actions in Photoshop, such as Save the Dress, Ying-Yang, or Foundation, they won't work. I've tried resetting the brushes, changing the opacity, restarting the program, and unlocking the layers. It was working perfectly, but suddenly just stopped. When I click on the image, it doesn't do anything. There is also a small black box next to the action the I am using in the history box. When my brushes were working, that box would show in white where I used the brushes on my pictures, but now it doesn't register anything that I try to do.

You need to give specific information about _your_ problem.
What version of Photoshop?
What operating system?
Which brushes, and if not standard, where did you get them from, or did you make them?
What is happening, and what have you tried so far to fix it?

HT1296 My contacts are synching with Outlook 2007. The synch appears to complete but does not actually update the contact data.

I am having trouble with synching contacts between Outlook 2007 and iPhone5s via iTunes. The synch appears to work but data is not actually updating in either place.

The information I received gave me the courage to proceed with download to allow my handheld to sync with my new Outlook 2007 running on my laptop. It worked and I still seem to be able to sync with my Outlook 2002 version on my desktop system.
Next problem is that I have some reurring appointments on my calendar that will NOT delete. I have tried all methods I can find and nothing works. Even if I get to the point where it asks if I want to open "this occurrence or open the series" (then save and delete), the darned things seem to be lurking in the future. I have tried changing the end date or the recurrence schedule and it acts like I have entered them day by day and I can't successfully change the entire series. Any ideas?
