Photoshop artifacts?

Hi All,
I rendered an image and saved it as an jpeg, openening the jpeg in Photoshop the red line shows some weird artifacts.
Opening the same image in Fireworks and it looks normal.
Anyone experienced this issue? I don't know what happened :-S
edit: Saving the jpeg in Fireworks and pening the file in Photoshop and it looks ok.
thanks

like I said, it's the same jpeg openen in photoshop and FW..
Like I said, no, it is not (in the way you have presented it on this forum).
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/JPEG
edit: You can best evaluate the images by overlaying these identical images with the 'difference' mode in Photoshop.
The fact that you can save from FW to open in PS shows that something is unusual about how the image is being originally prepared. As you are noticing the issue in an extreme red, I would not be surprised if color management has some role here. What program is being used to produce your renders? Are you embedding a profile? Is Photoshop assigning a profile?

  • Artifacts and corruption on Photoshop CC files that have been worked on a lot

I'm having the problem below when working on a Photoshop file created with Adobe Photoshop CC. I have had this issue on 2 different machines and 2 versions of photoshop, working from my hard drive. This is what I get:
As you can see it's totally messed up my photoshop file and when I export out (as a JPEG/PNG etc) it still has the artifacts. I have now had this with 2 different retina Macbook Pros running 2 versions of CC. I've never had this before and have used CS5 for years with no issues and I'm not using a network so I'm thinking it's something to do with CC. Here's when it usually occurs:
    - When I have been working on a file a lot, these are mocks for clients and it tends to be happening on the homepage (which has had the most iterations)
    - Seems to be connected to smart layers (but not exclusively), when I try and mask with a smart layer I'll get strange banding and some of the text will render with obscure colouring
    - It also affects the layers, text layers that cover small areas of the canvas are selectable from nowhere near and they obscure other layers
    - I can click into text layers and update the colour and sometimes that will fix them and they re-render normally
    - It seems to degrade the more I work on it, the first thing will be small lines, then the layers will obscure other layers (for no obvious reason when trying to select them) and then the colour banding will appear
At the moment is causing me a bit of a headache and I can't see how to get this PSD back without recreating the entire design.
    Can someone please help....

Seems strange that I would get the same problem on 2 different macs with the same results. Is there anyway of finding out if it is the ram/hd before splashing out on either fixing it or getting a new Mac? Also like I said I never had this problem with CS5, which I used on one of the macs before I upgraded. I've got a feeling if I take this problem to the Apple store they are probably going to say it's the software and not the hardware.

  • Photoshop CS5 update doesn't fix artifact problem in the menu bar !

    Hi to all,
I've installed the new update (december 7) recommended by Adobe, but that doesn't fix the Artifact problems in the menu bar !!!
More, with my Windows 7 Pro (French language), Photoshop CS5 video pilot create artifacts in the menu bar in several situations.
With Windows classic Theme chosen, theme management disabled:
    1. Opening a photo and applying a filter (especially Noise Reduction).
    2. Opening a photo and changing some preferences.
    3. Opening a photo with Windows 7 File Explorer working cause the pilot to crash with a black screen, ans followed by a message saying that Win 7 has recovered the video pilot.
To suppress most of the problems, I need to Activate "Themes" and choose an Aero theme or the Basic Theme.
I also need to activate some items that slow the PC !
    Very strange !
Could someone help, me please ?
    Have a Nice Day.
    Thierry

Yes, I've an Asus ENGT220/G/DI/1GD3, tried Windows default pilot, 2009 Asus pilot "nv19045_Win7Vista64.zip", and 2010 latest version "nv25919_Win7Vista64.zip", no change !
More, I've exchanged the video car by a "monster" ENGTX465 with it's driver, NO CHANGE !
    So what to do ?!
    Help, please !

  • Photoshop CS6 "Auto-blend Layers" leaves non-editable artifacts.

In Photoshop CS6, I created two TIFF files each having a different focus on the same subject. The intent is to create a single file using focus stacking with all subject elements in focus. The methods used to import the files as layers and align the layers do not create any artifacts.
The "Auto-blend Layer" function, however, creates permanent artifacts on the layers when creating the masks. The function creates masks for each layer based on its own logic for determining what is best focus. The analysis is fairly good where high contrast exists however it is not 100 percent accurate and is fairly inaccurate in low to medium contrast images. In trying to edit the masks and even when you disable or delete the masks artifacts are left along the margins of the masks on the layer itself. This is a bug. No matter what occurs with the mask the underlying layer should be inviolate - at no time should the underlying layer be affected by a mask until the mask is applied. When the masks are disabled or deleted the remaining layer should not display any evidence of the borders of the mask. (Photoshop 13.0.0 64x Extended; color space= ProPhoto RGB; 32bit TIFF files; 16bit PSD)

  • Macbook pro Retina Photoshop ONLY graphic artifacts

I have a macbook pro Retina Mid 2012 for work.  And every time I use photoshop, and move the cursor around I see very annoying graphical artifacts on the left and top of the screen.  This looks like a driver issue one might expect on a PC.  I can't take a screen shot of it, since it goes away when I try to do that..  of course.  but attached below is a mockup of what it basically looks like.  (I cannot upgrade to maverick due to not workig with software we need at the office)
This ONLY happens in Photoshop.  and has been happeneing ever since the laptop was first purchased.  Has anyone else seen something like this?  Is there a driver update to fix it? etc...

There are so many apps that use the NVIDIA GPU... download gfxCardStatus and install it so that you can get a handle on apps that use the GPU processor (Chrome, any Creative Suite app, etc.).
If the problem only occurs when using the discrete GPU in PS then it's either a hardware fault or a PS fault - you'll know if other apps that use the NVIDIA chip display the same anomalies.

  • Artifacts in Bridge Output that don't show in Photoshop CS4

    Hello,
I'm new to using Adobe Bridge and I used the output function to check on the resolution/condition of an image.  I am seeing artifacts in Bridge that are not visible in Photoshop.  Likewise the image looks very poor in Bridge but is crisp and clear in Photoshop.   The image that I'm looking at is a 8 1/2 x 11" 300 dpi.  Why would these look completely different in the two programs?  Do I need to adjust a setting or does Bridge trump Photoshop in terms of what will ultimately print?
    Best,
    Melinda

    John,
Thank you so much for taking the time to answer me.
    I used the settings:
    Custom
    Page Preset:  US Paper
    Size  8.5 x 11
    Quality 300 dpi.
But I also fooled around with a ton of other combinations (in terms of the template setting)  although I have no clue what they mean and got the same result.
If I went back to the image and used the eraser function to "clean" up the artifacts that I couldn't see in a particular area and generated a new preview they were gone in that area.  That's what's having me a bit concerned. They do not show up in Photoshop or in a PDF generated by InDesign.
    Very strange...

  • Photoshop CS6 selection, shape, and text is causing colored artifacts on screen

The Photoshop CS6 (13.0.4) selection, text, and shape tool causes colored artifacts on screen. I'm running on a retina Macbook Pro updated to the latest ML release. I have disabled GPU acceleration. I have also tried starting Photoshop with no plugins but this does not help.
I have created a video which shows the phenomena
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VG5ayC3WmKA

SOLVED. After two days of intense debugging I've identified the issue as an interaction between the ICC color profile, integrated GPU, and Photoshop. The ICC profile was created with an i1Display Pro using the i1Profiler software. The issue occurs when you create the color profile using the LUT setting. Creating a profile using the matrix setting seems to be ok. In summary, these are the specific conditions that cause the issue (for me):
    1) Using a color profile created with the LUT setting with i1Profiler and i1Display Pro
    2) Using the integrated GPU (discrete GPU is disabled in Photoshop Performance setting)
    3) Running on Photoshop 13.0.4 (13.0+ all have the issue) on a 15" Macbook Pro with Retina display
Creating a new profile with the matrix setting OR enabling the discrete Nvidia GPU will also make the artifacts go away. The integrated GPU using the LUT based color profile does not seem to have any artifacts in any other photography and video editing software that I've tried so Photoshop is playing a role. The nature of the artifacts also change from Photoshop version 13.0 to 13.0.4. For example, in Photoshop 13.0 the Marquee Tool has no issues while 13.0.1+ has artifacts.

  • Photoshop CS4 Applic. Frame has artifacts

When I open an image in Photoshop CS4 in Window < Application Frame, using a Mac with 10.5.6 & 10.5.7, there are weird artifacts that show up in the background area. If I zoom in and back out, they will go away. But how do I get rid of them all together? Is it a bug in Photoshop? There was a rumor that upgrading from 10.5.6 to 10.5.7 would fix it, but that didn't work (although it did reduce the artifacts, suggesting it's still a bug in 10.5). I have an iMac 2009 with 4GB RAM, and the NVIDIA GeForce GT 130 graphics card. This is the only problem I've had. Anyone else had this problem or know how to fix it? I've searched for any similar problems and can't find much. If you know of any other sources that can help, please share. Thanks - bindigok

  • Artifacting in Photoshop CS4

    Hi there,
I just got a new computer. It's stats are the following:
    Dell XPS 8300i5
Processor: Intel Core i5-2320 CPU @ 3.00 GHz
    RAM: 8 gigs
    System type: 64 bit
Graphics card: AMD Radeon HD 6450
    I use a Cintiq 21UX.
    My problem:
Weird, random artifacting that appear when I'm working on an image in Photoshop. As I draw or paint, the artifacts will reappear in different spots, making working in the program impossible. The artifacts move when I save and reopen the file and are always there. This happens on all the file types (PSD, jpeg, png, GIF, etc.) that I've tried. I have updated my drivers for both Photoshop and my Cintiq, and have even tried going back to some older drivers to see if that would fix the problem. I've also updated the drivers for the graphics card. I have tried using the 64 bit version of Photoshop as well as the 32 bit and I get the same results in both. I also use Paint Tool SAI, which functions normally.
Here is an example of what's going on:
I suspect there's a software incompatibility somewhere but I'm currently at a loss. Any help would be much appreciated.
Oh, and I have tried searching Google and the Adobe forums for a similar problem but it would seem no one else is having an issue with this. >.>; I know that Cintiq can sometimes have problems with Photoshop but this is the first time this has happened.

    Photoshop loves ATI graphics cards.
Visit the AMD web site and download/install the latest release of the display driver for your card and OS.  Then re-enable OpenGL, restart Photoshop, and re-test.

I stated it a bug and should be fixed. They wanted me to close the report I replied when fixed I would. Unfortunately, both issues were deemed low impact with known workarounds which is why they were deferred. I will not go away for new and old action that add adjustment may fail to work properly unless recorded in a way to take advantage on bugs in the implementation of the options.    All I'm asking for is tow simple line of code to be added to the fly-out menu code.  Add  a line before the code the generated the separation line before the two bad option add
    /* removing two bad options
then scan down to where the next separation line is added and before that code add the following:
the bad options have now been removed */

Technical problem: So, I updated my Flash and since then Photoshop has been doing this awful shearing thing with all my edges. On the left is how the JPEG actually looks, whereas the right is what I'm seeing while I work.
I tried re-installing Flash and even system restoring to 24 hours ago, and nothing has worked.

Thanks for the suggestion, Trevor - I actually hadn't done that yet. Sadly, that did not resolve my issue - apparently my driver is up-to-date. :C

In competitive exams photo in "true color" format.... How to do it in adobe photoshop>>> please replay it.....

Mayuk, you are not making any sense here.
    True color (24-bit)
"True Color" redirects here. For images with natural color rendition, see true-color.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Truecolor.png 24 bits (16,777,216 colors, "truecolor")
True color supports 24-bit for three RGB colors. It provides a method of representing and storing graphical-image information (especially in computer processing) in an RGB color space such that a very large number of colors, shades, and hues can be displayed in an image, such as in high-quality photographic images or complex graphics. Usually, true color is defined to mean 256 shades of red, green, and blue, for a total of 224 or 16,777,216 color variations. The human eye can discriminate up to ten million colors.[13]
     Color images composed from 3 grayscale images A, B & C assigned to R,G & B in different orders.
"True color" can also refer to an RGB display-mode that does not need a color look-up table (CLUT).
For each pixel, generally one byte is used for each channel while the fourth byte (if present) is being used either as an alpha channel, data, or simply ignored. Byte order is usually either RGB or BGR. Some systems exist with more than 8 bits per channel, and these are often also referred to as true color (for example a 48-bit true-color scanner).
Even with true color, monochromatic images, which are restricted to 256 levels, owing to their single channel, can sometimes still reveal visible banding artifacts.
True color, like other RGB color models, cannot express colors outside of the gamut of its RGB color space (generally sRGB).
Macintosh systems refer to 24-bit color as "millions of colors".
RGBA color space, or 32-bit color, is a variant of true color in which the additional 8-bit is allocated to transparency and indicates how transparent is the element to which the color is assigned, when overlaid on other elements.

  • Really bad banding and artifacts in 16-bit layered greyscale file. Bad banding is retained when converted to 8-bit with No flattening. Flatten 16-bit image and banding and artifacts disappear even with no dither or noise layer. Is this a known bug?

    Has anyone else experienced this?
I thought it was a monitor problem at first, but I'm using a 10-bit per channel Eizo. It seems to be a Photoshop bug based on many layers interacting with each other. When I flatten everything is fine. But I need to work on this image with layers and decent fidelity. Interestingly when I convert to 8-bit without flattening (and utilising the dither function to potentially reduce banding even further), it uses the terrible artifact laden/banding to do the conversion even though when I zoom into 1:1 in my 16-bit document it looks fine. But 50% or 25% zoom I suddenly get these awful artifacts.
Here's some screenshots to clarify. Please note I've used Photoshop for 24 years so I'm no slouch but this is the first time I've seen this. The problem is I need to do some subtle airbrush and texture work on this and it's almost unusable unless I flatten (please note, it does the same in the original 8-bit file and just to say I Gaussian-Blurred every layer with a 30px radius after converting to 16-bit so the there's no longer any 8-bit information in there or reasons for banding/artifacts). I can only think it is some of bug in Photoshop's layering engine.
Has anyone seen this before - dealt with this before?
    Thanks in advance.

    help!

I can't speak to why, perhaps someone more knowledgeable than I can speak to that.   But if it only happens at certain views then it's purely a display issue; it won't happen in print or when you downsample to display size.  Such banding issues have always disappeared for me when I output to 8 bit.
I'd assume that it's because of your monitor; it can't display all the colors and when zoomed out there's too wide of a range in a small area so banding occurs.  But that's just my guess.

    APPLICATION  COEXISTENCE
Lightroom 4 Beta + Photoshop CS6 beta -- Editing the same video file simultanously in both applications may result in an error, crash, or blank (transparent) frames. You might see this Photoshop error: "Could not complete the Render Video command because of a problem with Adobe Media Encoder".
This will only be an issue with Lightroom 4 beta and Photoshop CS6 beta on the same system, editing the same video. The released versions will not have this issue.
Workaround: Upgrade to LR Release version (even if it's just the trial), or don't open the same file in both apps at the same time.
CS5 Help fails to launch after install of CS6
Workaround: Launch the stand alone "Adobe Help" application or reinstall CS5
    CROP
Crop action shows wrong crop box.Playing an action with a crop step that has dialogs turned on results in a crop box that covers the entire canvas instead of the expected area.
Workaround: Ensure that the Crop Tool is selected before running the action or disable dialogs for the action.
    FILTERS

    Workaround: View image at 100%
Lighting effects bump map generates artifacts if an alpha channel bump map is used. The resulting preview and final image is artifacted across the gradiated areas of the alpha channel.
Workaround: Do not use a gradiated alpha channel as a bump map
Liquify will perform the filter and save to just part of the photo if you click cancel while it is "finishing processing" a large file.
    LAYERS
If a vector layer has a center-aligned stroke combined with an inside-aligned layer style stroke, then that vector layer's stroke may not display correctly -- part of the vector layer stroke will disappear as the layer is moved around the image.
Workaround: Use the "Path Selection Tool" to move your vector around -- alternatively, Change the stroke alignment or remove underlying layers.

    PLUGINS
DUPLICATE PLUGINS CAUSE ISSUES ON MAC:
If you install duplicate plugins or point the additional plugins folder preferences to a duplicate set of plugins (such as, to an older version of Photoshop), then it is possible for odd Photoshop behavior, such as an inappropriate file extension to appear when saving files.
(example: while performing a "save as"  to JPEG file type, the file format appears to change to .dcm)
In this case, there may be a duplicate "file formats" plugin that's populating the Save As file types list with duplicates of the same options.
If there are duplicate file format plugins installed, the Mac OS will remove the duplicates from the list, but you may still see the odd saving behavior.
    Solution:
    Remove the duplicate plugins.
If you are not sure if you have this issue, but are seeing odd behavior, you can check for duplicates by looking through the plugins listed in the Help > System Info dialog.

    1. You can get full support for your camera by upgrading to Lightroom 4. But personally, I would wait for Lightroom 5 since it will be released shortly, probably within the next month. Lightroom 5 will work with Photoshop CS5. The only difference is that Lightroom will need to create a TIF or PSD file that contains all the changes you have made in Lightroom. That's not a big deal, in my opinion. That file has to be created at some point anyway whenever you use Photoshop.
    2. Yes, Lightroom 4 will pass images back and forth between it and Photoshop.
    3.  The upgrade would not break Lightroom 3. It would essentially work the same as it does with your current setup.
    4. If you purchase CS6 it is my understanding you will be allowed to use it indefinitely. This is not true of the Creative Cloud version. Support and updating for additional cameras will cease for CS6. Adobe has announced that they will make Camera Raw 8.1 so that it can be usable with CS6 as far as reading Lightroom adjustments. But any new controls will not be accessible.
    5. So far, Adobe has indicated that they have no plans to making Lightroom a subscription-only offering.
You are asking your questions as though you are addressing Adobe directly. This is a User-to-user forum. I don't work for nor do I speak for Adobe. I am only giving you the information as I understand it. It seems to me that upgrading to Photoshop CS6 and Lightroom 5 is a "safe" choice. None of us, not even Adobe, really knows what the future will bring. Technology changes so quickly anymore that everything we are doing right now could be obsolete in a matter of a very short period of time. As Adobe changes their marketing strategies I think it will probably motivate some people to look elsewhere. I have Photoshop CS6 and I'm going to upgrade to Lightroom 5. Then I will have to wait and see what develops after that. At any rate, I have tools that I can use for the foreseeable future. If I have to change at some point then I will do so.
