Photoshop Batch Processing

I have a questions about actions, and I need to know if this is possible in CS3 (or any other versions) of Photoshop.
I have a template image that has 3 boxes on it.  I have a folder filled with images that will populate these boxes.  Is it possible to have an action populate these boxes (via paste or place I would imagine) and then save the template image as a separate filename?  I need it to go through the folder and populate three images at a time, with no repeats.
I am only somewhat experienced with photoshop actions, and any help would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers,
Shaun

Yes you can create an action to populate a Collage template. It is better done using a Photoshop script. Take a look ate my Photo Collage Toolkit.   I would suspect that with some minor changes to you template the Scripts providef will have not problem populating your template.  There are scripts to interactivly populate templates to automaticlt populate templates and to batch populate templates.

  • Photoshop batch processing missing from menu

    Hi everyone:
I'm having a terrible time today trying to process the 3500 images I've got. I set up an action to process them, but I can't figure out how to link them to be used through Bridge. I'm running Bridge CS5 with PS CS4, and I'm used to going to Tools->Photoshop->Batch. It's missing entirely from the menu.
I did a bunch of research and found that this issue likely has something to do with the Startup Scripts. So I checked those, and Photoshop is missing from the options. I can't find where that script right reside, as the folder the scripts are supposed to live in appears to be empty (I do have Adobe Bridge CS5 and InDesign CS5 as options, though the script folder itself is empty).
If it's a simple matter of installing the appropriate script, where might I find it? And if not, how can I solve the problem?

If it's a simple matter of installing the appropriate script, where might I
find it? And if not, how can I solve the problem?
By default they are installed in the library at root level ( Mac OS:
    //Library/Application Support/Adobe/Startup Scripts CS4/Adobe Photoshop/)
but I have no experience with - nor would I recommend - the use of CS5
    Bridge with PSCS4.
If you don't have installed PSCS5 for whatever reason your fastest way would
be to start Bridge CS4. Let the folder with the files cache first and use
that Bridge version with PSCS4 to perform your batch. BTW, you can save and
export the actions from PSCS4 as a set and import them again in PSCS5.
And of course you could also open the batch in PS itself like we used to do
in the past before Bridge. PS/File/Automate/Batch and choose the folder you
want to apply the batch in.

  • Batch Processing in Photoshop CS3

With ImageReady abandoned and my CS2 Suite completely trashed by the installation and uninstallation of CS3 InDesign Beta I am stuck now with
all my ImageReady droplets dead! I have tried my best to set up a comparable batch process in PS, but am unable to find two important things
    1) resize the photo to constrain to width only of 360 pixel width (any height is fine)
    # can't fine the constrain to width only or both option
    2) run auto levels
    # This one is fine...
    3) run unsharp mask to precise parameters, 70, radius 0.4, 0 threshold
    # This one is fine...
    4) then save for web jpeg quality 40%, file name lower case
    # This one is fine...
    5) overwrite existing file without asking me and DO NOT keep an original around
    # PS keeps asking to if I want to replace the existing file.. Yes! Please do.. but I don't know how to set up the automation to automatically overwrite the existing file without asking. All these process are on copies of photos, so we want the batch automation to just run over all the files transparently in the background.
    # whether I check or uncheck the "Over-ride Save As commands" PS will always stop and prompt with a "do you want to replace" with "OK" dialog.. how do you force it to over write without asking?

responded on the FireWorks forum with a very good lesson on
setting up a batch process in FireWorks. And, Wade, thanks
for the encouragement on just getting use to
Fireworks (people tend to just be comfortable with we know..
    that's true)
But, you see: everyone on our shop (about 20 seats) paid for
an upgrade to CS3, IR droplets were critical to group collaborative work flows. I can make a droplet, post it to the server on the LAN someone else can make an alias to that droplet on their desktop and drop photos on the icon and ImageReady would boot and run the batch action in the background while they were doing their email.. it was
    just *so* efficient....
now, true, there are comparable batch processing options in Fireworks and you can save the history to a script... OK, I get that. But, I cannot share that script. I am the only one with a license for Fireworks... so, out of 20 of us on the team, 19 are left without comparable tools...
It's been confirmed that PhotoShop is missing the end of process features that image ready had (tweak the droplet to constrain to width and height, over write existing files in the same folder without asking etc.)
So, while Firefox may allow us to save the scripts. I'm the only one who can use it...and delegation of pre-processing is a really important part of the work flow... I have to mount a lot of content to the web... our content generators (whoever they may be) need to have all the photos downsized, sharpened etc, *before* I get them. I does me no good just to have my own FireWorks license... and we certainly cannot pay $2,000.00 for 20 seats of Fireworks, just to regain this small facility to process photos.
So, however "sweet" Fireworks may be, and I don't doubt it is a wonderful tool... it still cannot compensate for the absence of ImageReady in the CS3 Suite.
Ideally Adobe will be listening and upgrade the Photoshop batch processing tools ASAP... that's our best solution.
I have no choice now but to write my own photo processing applications in Runtime Revolution for others to use... which will be great because I can distribute those tools for free! But it's just more work....

  • Photoshop starts batch processing by itself

    Hi everyone,
since I installed Yosemite I have the problem that Photoshop (CC) starts batch processing by itself. That means that photoshop starts out of nothing and begins to execute some action on images in a certain folder. The images look some kind of distorted.
This happens a few times a day. I can only close photoshop with the activity center. I have no idea what is going on there.

Im familiar with the Photoshop batch process prior to CC but couldn't find an explanation on the web.
I would look in your actions script palette and see if anything sticks out as an automatic trigger.
Have you tried the Adobe forums?

  • Cropping not maintained from Bridge to PS when batch processing

This is the oddest thing, because it has never happened before. I am sending images that are cropped in Bridge to a Photoshop batch process (just image resize and sharpening), but they are showing up in the new folder un-cropped.
    Anybody seen this before?

Perhaps the "then click [Done]" part is being omitted?  It's easy to forget and click [Cancel], which will toss out the crop and any other settings changes.
    Other possibilities:
If you've set Camera Raw to use SideCar XMP files to maintain the settings, make sure you're not moving just the raw files to some other location without the XMP files.
If you've set Camera Raw to use the central database, make sure you're opening the images on the same computer on which you set the crop, and also make sure you've given the Camera Raw database enough room to grow (I've found that the default 1 GB is not nearly enough).

  • Batch processing images of various sizes

I'm trying to create 125 pixel square thumbnail images using a batch process and I'm having trouble getting it to work consistently with images that have different aspect ratios. I think I know why it's working the way it is, but I don't know how to work around the function. Here is what I'm doing that doesn't work when the image proportions change:
    1. Resize image to 125 pixels high using the "constrain proportions" option.
    2. Resize canvas to 125 pixels wide, thus cropping the sides to create the square image.
Then I have another process that does the same thing with images in portrait orientation. The problem is, I have some images that are 640x480, for example, and some that are 640x360. If I create the command using a 640x480 image, the 640x360 images are skewed when run through the batch because the "resize image" step is actually setting the dimensions of the image, rather than maintaining the proportions of that particular image. I thought about setting the canvas to a square first, but since not all my images are the same dimensions, I'm not sure how to account for that.
Anyone have any thoughts? I also have Photoshop, but as a novice, I've found Fireworks to be a little more intuitive for some of these basic commands, particularly batch processes.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks so much!
    Jeremy

It seems tricker than one might expect to create square thumbnails!
I'm a little confused by the results you're describing. When I try using Modify > Canvas > Canvas Size to crop a document, the result appears in the History panel as "Crop Document". If I select that step and choose "Copy Steps to Clipboard", then paste the results in a text file, I get something like this:
    fw.getDocumentDOM().setDocumentCanvasSize({left:16, top:0, right:141, bottom:125}, true);
This reveals that the canvas is being cropped according to a specific bounding rectangle that may or may not be a great fit for all the other images being processed (depending on their widths). For a more foolproof result, a rectangle like {left:0, top:0, right:125, bottom:125} would be a better choice; however, aesthetically, I'd personally prefer that images be cropped from the center, not the left side.
If I had something better to suggest here, I would. It might be worth checking out Photoshop to see if this type of operation is any easier. • In Bridge CS6, the "Tools" tab is missing the "Photoshop" option to batch process image

    Hello!
Does anyone know why in Bridge cs6 under the "Tools" tab, my "Photoshop" option is missing?  That is how I have always batch processed images.  In Bridge, I choose the images to process, go to the "Tools" tab, down to the "Photoshop" option then to "Image Processor" and process.  Now when I go into my "Tools" tab it only has the options: Batch Rename, 4 kinds of Metadata related options and Cache.  Can someone tell me why this has happened and how to fix it?  Thank you!!!
    Eric

    Hello Omke,
This problem lasted for two days.  I tried many suggestions but nothing worked immediately.  Suddenly I turned my computer on last night and it was fixed...inexplicably.  Not sure what worked but something did.  I appreciate you taking the time to offer advice.
    Best,

  • How can I batch process files to change name and extention in the latest photoshop cc ?

    Hi,
The batch process function has changed design recently and I cannot get it to change file names in photoshop cc 2014.
I keep getting new layers in the first file to open instead of a renamed batch.
I would also like to convert files to jpeg and resize ( at the same time ? )
thank you for help in advance,

Can't help you with CC, but you cannot change files types by merely changing the extension, regardless of program or version.

  • Retrieving Automate Batch processes I created in Photoshop CC before updating to Photoshop CC 2014

I used Photoshop CC this afternoon and created a couple of batch processes. This evening I had to update CC and the result was that when I opened Photoshop CC 2014 the two batch processes I created were not there. Is there a way to import them and from where?

  • Photoshop cs5 says "Place" is unavailable when I try to batch process from bridge, does anyone know what's going on?

I am trying to batch process my watermark from bridge.  I have a saved action in photoshop cs5 and have used it for a while and all of the sudden it says "place" is unavailable.  I have reset bridge and photshop and restarted the computer.  Do actions get corrupt?

That is a very common error message actions produce when  for some reason the document current state does not support the command or feature used in the action step that gets the error.  With our seeing a screen capture of the error message and being able to see the document window, the layers palette and the actions palette   Its not possible to tell you why the actions is getting that error message.  Most likely its because of the document current state. For example place is not valid for a bitmap mode document.

  • Batch processing photographs in Photoshop Elements 11

    Hi everyone,
I've been scanning in a lot of old photographs of late.  Many (probably all) of them would benefit from application of the "dust & scratches" filter, but it doesn't appear as an option in the "process multiple files" pull-down.  I've heard about "autohotkey" being used as an alternative mechanism for doing batch processing, but can't find an example online that works with Photoshop Elements 11.  Would anyone care to share any tips on how I could automatically process my scanned photographs in ways that "process multiple files" doesn't offer?
Thanks in advance for any assistance anyone can offer.
    Best regards,
    Andrew.

One way which i've been doing this is to use the Image Processor script from photoshop in pse 11.
(only works in pse 11 or possibly future versions of photoshop elements)
You can download the PSE 11 Image Processor.zip, extract the file (right click on the zip and press Extract All)
    https://workspaces.acrobat.com/?d=ZOP9CgDC38plXHju4uVLkQ
and then copy the Image Processor.jsx to:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 11\Presets\Scripts (64 bit version of windows 8)
    C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 11\Presets\Scripts (32 bit version of windows 8)
Start or restart pse11 and in the Expert mode it should be listed under File>Automation Tools>Image Processor
(an image doesn't have to be open to run the script)
Then we just need to know if you want the Dust and Scratches to use the same settings all the time or you want to be able to adjust the filter between photos.
(so we could send you the action to use with the image processor)
The image processor is similar to process mutiple fles except you can choose to run action that you have loaded in Window>Actions on the processed photos.

  • Photoshop cs6 batching process change the canvas size

I am looking to change some images from 320x? to 320x320 without distoration.  The way to do that would be to change the canvas size to 320x? to 320x320 and have the product stay in the middle.  Can CS6 do that in a batch process?

I am sorry is that a yes or a no.  I do not own this version of Photoshop but would upgrade if I can do this as I have several images to reformat.

  • Photoshop 7 - batch processing is no longer doing save as

I have had Photoshop 7 for many years.  I have been using several resizing and sharpening batch processes which have saved a resultant file at the end with a different name.  In the Batch process an original folder was selected and a destination folder and the file name changed with a different custom prefix.  I have been using these batch processes with no problems for years.  Without warning I have noticed that all of these batches are no longer working and the end result is one file in the destination folder, ie it must me overwriting.  I have tried to recreate the basic batch process again  and have resorted to using both 'save; and 'save as' at the end of the process in different test batch processes and the same result happens pretty much each time, the one file after the original folder had 5 images.  I have noticed that 'Save as' is not showing up in the actions of the batch process (only shows as 'Save' irrespective if you selected 'save' or 'save as'.  It is like Photoshop is refusing to accept 'save as' with a new file as a valid action.  I have also tried to check the override 'save as' box etc.  If you edit normally in Photoshop and 'save as' for that image, there are no problems
Going nuts as I am a team photographer for a team playing in a national competition and therefore have a large volume of images to edit/resize
    cheers

Windows XP previously, Windows 7 now (has been for about a year).
Computer is according to 'device and printers', ACPI x86-based PC, with Intel Core i5-3450 [email protected], and Xeon processor E3-1200 v2/3rd Gen Core - was all put together last year.
    Drives are nowhere near full.
Only recent update has been Java on the weekend, coinciding with when I first noticed the issue.
I have deleted Photoshop 7 off the computer using Windows 7's delete program function as there is no uninstall.exe file in the PS7 folder.  I deleted it out of Startup and off the Desktop.  I also deleted the remaining plugin folder containing Noise Ninja anti-noise software.
I reinstalled the PS7 software again and in PS7 I expected the batch processes now to only contain the default batch processes, but all of my created ones are there in the list - this says they are not deleted in the uninstalll process.  Where are these stored on your computer so I can delete these perhaps?  However I am unconvinced that will actually achieve anything (see * below).    I deleted a few of these using the trashbin off the Actions palette.
I created the numerous variations of the batch processes again, with 'save as overrides' box checked/unchecked and still no joy.  What I have noticed it does not matter whether you used 'save as' as one of your actions it has replaced it with 'save' every time (*).  How does/can that happen?  All the other 'save' actions for any of the other batch processes all show as 'save' now.    There is of course no option to change the 'save' in the actions to 'save as', eg right click mouse or something.
I haven't found anything related in Google searches.

  • Batch Processing in Photoshop CS5 opens files in Camera Raw

Regarding batch processing straight from Photoshop CS5 (not in Bridge) I am unable to get the .dng files to open up without requiring that I click on 'open image' in Camera Raw.  I am trying to run a simple two step sharpen plus save and close action on a batch of 700+ .dng files.  There is no open command in the action.  Thanks.

You probably need to check Suppress File Open Options Dialogs.
