Photoshop Blacked Out Menu Bug

I have a strange bug I have only been able to find in one or two places online with no answers.
All of my navigation menus are completely blacked out with dark grey text on top. Certain menus are completely blacked out and show absolutely nothing. When I mouseover the text becomes a readable grey but it makes actions much more difficult as I have to mouse over every single option.
Are there any solutions to this bug?
I have uninstalled/reinstalled, updated ATI drivers, contacted support, etc and have found no solution.
I am using purchased Photoshop CS3 & I am running Win 7 x64 w /i5-3570k w/ ATI Sapphire 7950
Here are some screenshots of what happens:

Either you have a corrupt install of Photoshop, a bad video card driver, or some utility on your system modifying the way UI is drawn (like WindowBlinds).

  • Firefox, most of window is blacked out, menues area is transparent, menus not visible. Website is loading behind blackout. Complete uninstall has been tried.

The problem started after doing a Windows 7 disk cleanup. When I open Firefox the screen where the body of the website is is blacked out and the menu bars are not visible. I can tell Firefox and websites are loading because I can guess where address bar is and type website and when I hover over address bar it will read name of website. Also, when I open a Firefox icon that had been saved to my desktop of a youtube link, the video will play visibly in Firefox, but the rest of the screen will be blacked out.
I have tried a full uninstall and installation [including deletion of registries and all that]. All windows for Firefox, including the one that asks to make it default browser, profile maneger, etc. show up blacked out, so I can't try to make new profiles and all that. I even restored my computer to earlier point. Please help. I'm posting this message from Internet Explorer.

hello kuzicharm, other users with this problem all had an embedded intel hd3000 graphics card with an old driver present. in case this also applies to you, here would be a link to update the driver, which in turn should also address the black firefox problem: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?DwnldID=23764 (for win7 64 bit)
in case this doesn't solve the issue or does not apply to your system, start firefox into safemode '''by pressing the shift key while the application is launching''' & disable hardware acceleration in the firefox ''menu ≡ > options > advanced > general'' (that setting will take a restart of the browser to take effect).

  • PP CC 2014 partially blacked out menu bar

    The software:
    CC 2014.0.1
    8.0.1(21) Build
    The system:
    Late 2013 21.5" iMac Core i5
    8GB RAM
    NVIDIA GT 750M 1024MB
    OSX 10.9.4
Using internal drive for all media, caches, etc.  No other software running while I'm editing.
First real project using this software.  No video, just stills and one 1920x1080p Animation codec .mov to work with.  At first I had choppy playback, but changed the Preview Video type from Quicktime H.264 back to the default and now it's fine.  What isn't fine is that the topmost "bar" is almost totally blacked out.  Restarting program makes no difference.

Looks like a complete restart of the system took care of it.  Should've thought of that first.

  • Photoshop Creative Cloud flickers and blacks out

I posted this in the Creative Cloud forum, but was told to post it here.   I am sure it is only a Photoshop Creative Cloud problem.
I am using Photoshop Creative Cloud, on trial.  I have been using Photoshop, desktop version, for 20 years. Never saw this problem on it.
PS CC flickers and blacks out.  Many times, many different files, many different actions cause this.    Right now, I am editing a photo, and using the Magic Wand tool to select areas that I will remove from photo.   PS CC is flickering on my screen, on/off.    Sometimes it goes completely black.
I can see the menus, but the image itself is flickering on/off.  Mostly off.
    Thanks

Yes flecking is a common problem.  If happen for many bugs. That is why I posted the search instead of trying to answer your question for you posted little information bout your problem.  In the guidelines you will see
    =============================
Supply pertinent information for quicker answers
The more information you supply about your situation, the better equipped other community members will be to answer. Consider including the following in your question:
    Adobe product and version number
    Operating system and version number
The full text of any error message(s)
What you were doing when the problem occurred
    Screenshots of the problem
Computer hardware, such as CPU; GPU; amount of RAM; etc.
    =================================================
Information like that help to identify if you have a known problem from what your using and help pinpoint where the problem may be .   Even if you have the latest OS it its updates. The latest video driver and the latest Photoshop update does not mean you will not have any software and hardware bugs. Just because there have be problem reported about flecking in Photoshop in all supported Platforms OS versions  does not mean that there is a single common problem in Photoshop.  All it means is that flickering is a common side effect caused by bugs.

  • I am missing the add objects section from the fly out menu in Photoshop CS6. 3d workspace

I am missing the "add objects" section from the fly out menu in Photoshop CS6. I am in the 3D workspace of Photoshop. "Scene" is highlighted and I have clicked on the little fly out menu in the upper right hand corner of that panel. The whole section that should contain, Add objects, delete objects, duplicate objects, all the way through reverse order is missing. The add lights section above and render section below it is there. I am not new to Photoshop, but I am new to the 3D section of Photoshops work space.
I do know about creating a new layer in the layers tab and merging the objects together trick. But I kind of would like for the program to work correctly as I am sure that doing it that way will cause some sort of problems later in the work process.
Below are the specs of my system.
    Adobe Photoshop Version: 13.0.1 (13.0.1.3 20131024.r.34 2013/10/24:21:00:00) x64
    Operating System: Windows NT
    Version: 6.2
System architecture: Intel CPU Family:6, Model:12, Stepping:3 with MMX, SSE Integer, SSE FP, SSE2, SSE3, SSE4.1, SSE4.2, HyperThreading
    Physical processor count: 4
    Logical processor count: 8
    Processor speed: 2394 MHz
    Built-in memory: 32651 MB
    Free memory: 28832 MB
Memory available to Photoshop: 29606 MB
Memory used by Photoshop: 89 %
    Image tile size: 128K
    Image cache levels: 4
    OpenGL Drawing: Enabled.
    OpenGL Drawing Mode: Basic
    OpenGL Allow Normal Mode: True.
    OpenGL Allow Advanced Mode: True.
OpenGL Allow Old GPUs: Not Detected.
    Video Card Vendor: Intel
Video Card Renderer: Intel(R) HD Graphics 4600
    Display: 3
I am actually running windows 8. So I am not sure why it is saying windows NT. Anyway...
Photoshop says that my software is up to date. I use Photoshop daily and everything else works just fine. I have looked through this forum and there is someone else who had the same issue as me but their question was not given a solution. So that is why I choose to post it again.
Any help will be great. Thank you!
    Mark.

I've made tests with four different 3rd party tools: OpenGL Extension Viewer, GPU Caps Viewer, Compute4Cash OpenCL Diagnostic Tool and Mudlord's Glide3x wrapper tester. All those tools report no problems with my video card driver and OpenGL/CL.
I have contacted nVidia and based on reports from the tools and visual tests from GPU Caps Viewer nVidia support doesn't see a problem with my driver.
I found sniffer_gpu.exe which according to Adobe Help pages is a kind of diagnostic tool and determines whether Photoshop uses the graphic card OpenCL or not. Here is the output:
    Device: 00000000002B1BE8 has video RAM(MB): 1023
    Vendor string:    NVIDIA Corporation
    Renderer string:  GeForce GTX 650/PCIe/SSE2
    Version string:   3.0.0
OpenGL version as determined by Extensionator...
    OpenGL Version 3.0
    Has NPOT support: TRUE
Has Framebuffer Object Extension support: TRUE
    OpenGL ok
    OpenCL ok, version=1.1 CUDA 4.2.1
    Return code: 3
From Adobe GPU Sniffer tool, it looks OK.
On the other hand, I have your word that there is no problem with Photoshop not recognizing OpenCL for my card and that nVidia driver has problems. Can you justify this somehow? Perhaps you could provide more details on technical level, or another utility to run and extract details, to at least identify the problem Photoshop has and hopefully solve it on either side.
P.S. During tests there were two things which I noticed, but they are probably not related to the issue:
    1. One tool reports the lack of Windows registry key SOFTWARE/Microsoft/Windows (NT)/CurrentVersion/OpenGLDrivers. But according to your previous statement, Photoshop only uses OS calls, no registry and according to nVidia, this key is not used in Windows 7.
    2. During some tests GPU Caps Viewer reports that "OpenCL CPU not supported on the selected platform". This is not complaining about GPU, only about CPU. But Photoshop is complaining about GPU, so it shouldn't be relevant.

  • Photoshop 5: blacking out when I use certain tools

I have Photoshop 5. Everything is up to date.
Most of the time when I use the crop tool or patch tool, it will black out when I am circling what I want to change or crop. I can't see what I'm cropping, I just have guess, and the same thing with my crop tool. It's been happening for a very long time. Almost since I first purchased it.

Do you really mean the ancient, obsolete Photoshop 5?  Or did you mean Photoshop CS5 a.k.a. Photoshop 12.x?

If you give complete and detailed information about your setup and the issue at hand, such as your platform (Mac or Win), exact versions of your OS, of Photoshop and of Bridge, machine specs, what troubleshooting steps you have taken so far, what error message(s) you receive, if having issues opening raw files also the exact camera make and model that generated them, etc., someone may be able to help you.

  • Photoshop CS5.5 makes my screen black out on my iMac. How can I fix?

When I use Photoshop CS 5.5 it makes my iMac screen flicker or black out. This is only a recent problem, I have been using this version of Photoshop for three years with no trouble.  I don't think its a problem with the screen as it only happen when I use Photoshop to crop or resize an image. I am running Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5. Does anyone know how to fix this problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Try the standard fixes:
    - Rest. Nothing is lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPod
If still problem then time for an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

Everthing was fine till this morning when I was told there was an update--I want to back in time : (

    Good day!
Does turning off »Use Graphics Processor« in the Performance Preferences and restarting Photoshop have any bearing on the issue?

I know that factoring in »unforeseeable problems« is close to an oxymoron but working under a schedule that will not allow for any »unforeseeable problems« seems very optimistic.

Share menu is blacked out on final pro x,  help?

To expand upon Jakob's question: before going to the Share drop down menu you need to either select the project in the Project Library, or to make the Timeline window active by clicking in it.

  • Menu bar blacked out?

The menu bar on my desktop blacks out and the desktop background defaults to gray. I have Lion running on my 2011 MBP 15" and I have been getting weird behavior with the desktop. See the pic below. Any ideas? No programs are installed to mess with the theme or anything.

I'm not sure if this started happening when I installed Illustrator or not, but it started happening to me recently. Or perhaps if it's something related to disconnecting a 2nd monitor right before/after closing the laptop lid and putting the computer to sleep, which sometimes seems to confuse my 2011 MBA 13".
Also odd is that when I swiped between desktops, in the gap in between was Firefox, not moving with the desktops; just sitting there.
Either way, doing a "killall Dock" seems to fix it.

  • Speedgrade's monitor is blacked out/bugged

Hey everyone, I have a peculiar problem when I import footage. It happens both when I pull it off the hard drive and when I send it from Premiere. The monitor window is blacked out, or sometimes there is a faint square of color representing the imported footage at the top left corner, as you can see here. Any suggestions? I've restarted the program multiple times and googled for over an hour looking for a similar problem, and haven't found it.

I also have the exact same problem. The screen looks exactly like Nitro's screenshot and I don't know what is wrong. When I press play the tiny square of video appears to be moving, but it doesn't fill up the entire screen. Also, the monitor icon next to the save icon under the video lights up red, but when I mouse over the video, paused or unpaused, and click, I can see part of the full display, with the tiny square expanded to the entire frame. Only half of the full display is shown, though, and when I move my mouse away from the video, it goes back to the tiny square.
I'm using Windows 7, but my processor is a Core i5. I'm using Speedgrade CS6. As for the exact version, I don't know how to find it. I'm also using a 1280x1024 display monitor. The file imported into Speedgrade is a .wav file.
As for the other system specs, I have AMD, and also 6 gigs of RAM. I think the other specs meet recommendations. I hope I will still be able to use Speedgrade, even though I have an i5 processor.Thanks.

  • Blacked out images in Lab Color mode

This problem relates to Camera Raw 4.5 and 4.4.1. I first noticed this when I
opened a file in Lab color. When it opened the image went black. Also the top thumbnail in the channels panel was black. In RGB mode the top thumbnail
in the History panel is blacked out. This relates to my desktop,my laptop runs just fine with ACR 4.5. BTW my desktop is running XP Home,my laptop is running XP Pro. This seems like the right place to go for help. Oops, almost forgot... ACR 4.3.1 works fine,no problems at all.
    Thanks,
    Rich Kreidel

You really must get rid of any other copies of the Camera Raw plug-in, especially if the other copy is somewhere in the Adobe folder system. Try using the search feature on your menu, and search for camera raw.8bi and see if you can locate the other copy that way.
Another thing to check would be to open Photoshop and go to Help/About Plug-Ins. Camera Raw should only be listed once. If you see it listed multiple times then that is definitely your problem. Click on the Camera Raw listing(s) to find out what version you have.
This Camera Raw update/installation process has caused a lot of confusion for quite some time. Once you get to understand it, it really is a simple process to update. But all it takes is a little mistake to cause a lot of problems.

  • Problem with Adobe BRIDGE getting Photoshop/Image Processor menu

When I open my drop-down or fly-out menu under TOOLS in Bridge (CS3 version), the entire portion of the menu which is supposed to appear next underneath the Cache line option is missing (i.e., Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Start Meeting..., Photoshop services).
    What gives?
I'm trying to get to Image Processor under the Photoshop menu option (which is supposed to appear in the Tools drop-down menu).
Please tell me what's wrong. Thanks in advance.

Thanks, but there IS no Photoshop subheading in my Tools menu.
That exactly describes the problem I'm having!
