Photoshop Bridge

My apologies, I guess I have Iphoto 08 and this maybe the wrong forum. I think I realize that Iphoto is not meant to be like a Windows image manager application and is designed for those who do not need to access individual or groups of images for re-cataloging, backup, etc. I'm beginning to regret my move to Apple.
Thanks

Was there a question in there? Let me guess at what you're trying to achieve.
You want to access your files from iPhoto and you're using v7?
1. Don't use Bridge. It's a good way to cause corruption of your iPhoto Library. Plus it's unnecessary, that's what iPhoto's for:
You can set Photoshop as an external editor in iPhoto. (Preferences -> General -> Edit Photo: Choose from the Drop Down Menu.) This way, when you double click a pic to edit in iPhoto it will open automatically in Photoshop, and when you save it it's sent back to iPhoto automatically
Other than that:
There are three ways (at least) to get files from the iPhoto Window.
1. Drag and Drop: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
2. File -> Export: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
3. Show File: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.
To upload to MySpace or any site that does not have an iPhoto Export Plug-in the recommended way is to Select the Pic in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and export the pic to the desktop, then upload from there. After the upload you can trash the pic on the desktop. It's only a copy and your original is safe in iPhoto.
This is also true for emailing with Web-based services. If you're using Gmail you can use THIS
If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
The change was made to the format of the iPhoto library because many users were inadvertently corrupting their library by browsing through it with other software or making changes in it themselves. If you're willing to risk database corruption, you can restore the older functionality simply by right clicking on the iPhoto Library and choosing 'Show Package Contents'. Then simply make an alias to the folders you require and put that alias on the desktop or where ever you want it. Be aware though, that this is a hack and not supported by Apple.
Finally, there's no need to regret coming over to the Mac. It will do all the same things as a Windows box, but just in different ways. It's like moving to a new city. You'll still use the streets to get around, but they're different streets and they take a little while to get to know.

  • Photoshop/Bridge CS4 problem with AFP shares

    Hello,
I have recently purchased Photoshop CS4 and encountered the following problem: when opening images from a NAS share connected via AFP using File/Open command, Photoshop will correctly display the list of files but Open command in the File open dialog remains disabled after a file is selected from the list. However, I can open the same file by dragging and dropping it from the Finder to the Photoshop Dock icon or later using the Open recent menu command.
Similar problem is visible in Bridge: it will not display the image thumbnails from any of the subfolders in the network share.
I am using Leopard with the latest updates, I have a read/write permissions to the network share and Photoshop/Bridge are the only applications that have problems browsing/opening files from the network share. The NAS unit is a Synology DS-107+ with the latest official firmware.
Futhermore, I have noticed that I can work around the problem by opening the same directory in Finder. After the image thumbnails are visible in Finder, both Photoshop and Bridge will correctly open all files in that directory but opening files from other directories still has the problem.
Does anyone have any idea on what might be causing this strange problem?

This is the boilerplate text I use in connection to saving to a network (please NOTE the part where it explains that normally, it does work, but that it is impossible to troubleshoot someone else's network remotely, and that's why it's not supported by Adobe):
If you are opening files over a network or saving them to a network server, please cease and desist immediately in the event you are currently experiencing problems with one or more files. Working across a network is not supported.
    See:
    http://www.adobe.com/support/techdocs/322391.html
Copy the CLOSED file from your server to your local hard disk, work on it, save it again to your local hard disk, close it, and copy the closed file back to the server.
Of course, the fact that Adobe does not support working across a network does not necessarily mean it won't work.   It should.
Adobe's position is that there are too many variables in a network environment for them to guarantee that everything will work correctly in every network, especially given the fact that if something does not work properly, it's probably the network's fault, and Adobe has no way of troubleshooting your network.
If you can't work locally, you are on your own, and if something happens, you're on your own. If you must work from a server, make sure your network administrator is a competent professional.
When problems arise, a lot of valuable work can be lost.

  • Photos look awful in Photoshop & Bridge but fine in all other programs; how can i fix this?

I just got a new windows 7 64-bit laptop (Sony Vaio vpcf226fm/b) and installed photoshop cs5 extended on it and began to look through some of my photos with Bridge and notied that they were all very washed out and desaturated.  In addition, certain parts of some of the pictures were very low-resolution...I'm not exactly sure how to describe it, but darker parts of the photos would have the same sort of effect you get when saving an gif image at very low quality.  Id take a screenshot but unfortunately am not at home right now.  Anyway, I thought the laptop might be messed up but the same pictures look fine when viewed in any other program...its just photoshop and bridge that they appear so poorly in.  I messed around with the color settings but couldn't make much progress...finally the only thing that I found to work was, with an image open, to go to View - Proof Colors and that would make the photo appear the same as in the rest of the programs, without the washed out/desaturated look and without the lo-resolution areas.  I can't find a way to make that stick, though, or a way to apply it to Bridge.
So what can I do?  And what's likely to be causing this in the first place?

    Alright, I'm back home now.
Here's what I mean about the major difference in saturation...the top photo is a screenshot from Canon's Zoombrowser software and the bottom photo is a screenshot of the same photo in Adobe Bridge CS5:
As you can see, there's also a greyish/bluish tint when viewed with Photoshop/Bridge as well.
And here's what I mean about parts of some of the photos being very low-resolution...you can see it especially well in this underexposed photo (the lower left and right corners and the edges of the clouds), again Zoombrowser on top and Bridge on the bottom:
What are your Edit > Color Settings? (A screenshot might be more convenient than typing it up.)
Have the images been saved with the ICC-Profiles embedded or not?
Here's a screenshot of the color settings:
Also, the images haven't been saved by anything else before, they're straight off the camera, unedited.
How have you calibrated your display? And have you changed your display controls since it was calibrated?
Basically, this is a symptom of your display profile not matching your display, and it'll only affect color managed applications that rely on the display profile.
I haven't calibrated the display and wasn't really planning to since it's a laptop and is going to be used mainly for photo and video viewing rather than editing; my desktop is what I do almost all my editing work with, but since this laptop is new and much faster I was planning on using it to sort through and organize all my hundreds of thousands of photos, then transfer that selection to my desktop for post-processing.  However, it's still important that I have a fairly accurate display on the laptop since I don't want to delete something that looks bad if it turns out that it only looked bad because of the laptop's display.
I put the new laptop next to my desktop's monitor and then borrowed two other laptops and put those on the same table too and had all four computers display the same image; the laptop was clearly the odd one out both when viewing the image in Photoshop as well as when viewing it in Zoombrowser.  In Zoombrowser it was far more bright and saturated than the other 3 displays and in Photoshop it was far less saturated than the other 3, plus it had low-resolution areas like in the second screenshot whereas the other 3 did not...so I'm not sure what to do now.  The non-color managed photos are apparently being displayed inaccurately by being overly bright and saturated and the color-managed photos are being displayed inaccurately  by being too desaturated plus having lo-res areas.  Any help?

  • Photoshop Bridge always crashes during a copy process.

While moving a folder with Photoshop Bridge the application crashed and the folder has disappeared on my disk.
Why dose Photoshop Bridge always stalls while moving and copying files or folders? What's the background and the solution to prevent this?
Is there a solution to recover the files. Standard recovery software dose not work.

    Hi together,
"loosing" the files was my mistake. I have took some time for investigations. I don't know why but I moved the two folders to my C: disk into my personal picture folder. The biggest mistake was that I have not searched on my C: disk. I searched on every disk in my PC by I missed searching on C:. Sorry for any confusion regarding this matter. By the way, I am happy that my pictures didn't get lost.
Any way, I am still facing the main failure : Bridge always crashes after I am moving or copying files, even by using drag and drop.
I have now completely updated my PC to exclude any driver bugs (SATA, video card, chipset, LAN, USB, audio, motherboard bios). I have also installed a new data disk. Please hold in mind, my PC is actually running very stable. There is no issues with any other software.
At the end the situation has not changed ... Bridge always crashes after moving or copying files.
Any ideas what I can change to get rid of this problem ?

  • I have cs3 adobe photoshop bridge software originally  now I want cs6 can I download it and pay on line?  I don't have to pay for the whole bundle do I since I already have cs3 software.

I have old cs3 adobe photoshop bridge software.  I would like the latest version cs6.  Can I just download it from the internet or do I have to buy software and have it mailed to me.  I understand since I already have one version can I just download the new.  Cheaper that way.

CS3 is totally out of any upgrade loop now.  You are free to buy Photoshop CS6 Perpetual License as a full version, $700 for the standard version or 1 cool $1,000 for the extended version of Photoshop or subscribe to any of the subscription plans for CC, CC2014 ($30 a month) or the Adobe Photography plan ($10 a month), but then you never get to own the software; the moment the monthly or yearly payments stop, your software ceases to work.
    Just a clarification in general:
Remember, you are not addressing Adobe here in the user forums.  You are requesting help from volunteers users just like you who give their time free of charge.
In other words, please don't kill the messenger.

  • Canon EOS 5D Mark 111 camera and I currently use CS4 Photoshop/Bridge

I just purchased a Canon EOS 5D Mark 111 camera and I use CS$ Photoshop/Bridge. Will I need to upgrade my software to make it work with my camera?
    What do I do?

Adobe currently offers two versions of Photoshop:
CS6 (perpetual license: pay once, own forever: no upgrades)
CC (Cloud version: subscription only: all upgrades are free)
CS6 is superseded software. Adobe is no longer working on it. However CS6 is still being offered for sale for those who want it. However, since CS4 is not eligible for an upgrade to CS6, you're faced with paying full price for CS6.
The CC option requires a monthly fee but it's the current version. It's the next major version after CS6. New and enhanced features are added to CC regularly.
If neither the full priced CS6 nor the Cloud CC version are for you then the free DNG converter is your other option so you can continue using CS4.
You download the free Adobe DNG converter http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshop/extend.displayTab2.html
Then you must open all 5D Mark III Raw files in the converter and convert to DNG. That adds an extra step to your workflow. Then you can edit the DNGs in CS4.
Quality-wise DNG files = Raw files. Raw files are manufacturer and camera specific. DNGs are open source. Any software which reads DNG files can read them.

  • Photoshop/Bridge CS4 PDF Presentation Update or Plug-in

Full Parameter PDF Presentation is essential for me.
PDF Presentation (as in Photoshop - Bridge CS2 and CS3) with panels for selection of presentation prameters and saving with various levels of jpeg compression and image quality, presets and output color conversion, etc. . This was not only a very useful feature, but has become a required component of my workflow over the past three years. This to shoot all imaages in RAW, upload files to Bridge, develop a wide range of selected images with Camera RAW and then produce a PDF slide show of 20-25 'proofs' while still in Bridge with a size of 10-15MB that can be emailed to various recipients for review and final selection. Final selections are then fine truned in Photoshop for printing. While some of the improvements in CS4 are useful, CS3 at present is more satisfactory and remains more useful than the CS4 upgrade. Addition of this feature as an update or legacy plug-in (the basic componets exist in CS4) would be more than acceoptable and allow me to complete the upgrade to CS4. Your attention and help will be very much appreciaated!

    APOLOGIES!!!
    I just found it......
Using the Adobe Output Module script, you can create Adobe PDF contact sheets and presentations in Adobe Bridge. Contact sheets let you easily preview and catalog groups of images by displaying a series of thumbnails on a single page. PDF presentations let you use a variety of images to create a multipage document for slide show presentation. You can set options for image quality in the PDF, specify security settings, and set the document to open automatically in full-screen mode in Adobe Acrobat. You can also add the filename as a text overlay below each image in the PDF.
    1. Select the files or the collection or folder that contains the images you want to include in the contact sheet or presentation.
    2. Choose Window > Workspace > Output.
If the Output workspace is not listed, select Adobe Output Module in Startup Scripts preferences.
Adobe Bridge displays the Output panel at the right side of the window and the Folders panel at the left. The Content panel with your selected photos appears at the bottom of the window, and the Preview panel appears in the middle.
    3. In the Output panel, select PDF.
    4. Choose a layout option from the Template menu.
    5. With your photos selected in the Content panel, click Refresh Preview to view the contact sheet in the Output Preview panel.
Note: The Output Preview panel displays only one PDF page.
    6. Customize the appearance of the contact sheet by specifying options in the Document, Layout, Overlays, and Watermark areas of the Output panel.
    7. (Optional) Change the images in the PDF by navigating to them in the Folders or Favorites panel, and then selecting them in the Content panel. You can also use the Preview panel to preview the images and refine your selection. Drag thumbnails in the Content panel to rearrange the order of the images on the page.
    8. Click Refresh Preview at any time to update the PDF and see the changes in the Output Preview panel.
    9. For presentations, specify the following options in the Playback panel:
    Open In Full Screen Mode
Opens the PDF in full-screen mode in Adobe Acrobat.
    Advance Every [x] Seconds
Specifies how long each image is displayed before the presentation advances to the next image. The default duration is 5 seconds.
    Loop After Last Page
Specifies that the presentation automatically starts over after reaching the end. Deselect this option to stop the presentation after the final image is displayed.
    Transition
Specifies the transition when moving from one image to the next. Choose a transition from the Transition menu. Depending on the transition, you can also specify a Direction and a Speed.
    10. If youd like to automatically open the PDF in Acrobat after you save it, select View PDF After Save at the bottom of the Output panel. Otherwise, just click Save.
    11. In the Save (Windows) or Save As (Mac OS) dialog box, enter a name for the PDF, select a destination for the saved file, and then click Save.

  • Can't open Canon RAW files in LR1.3, Photoshop, Bridge

    Hi.
I'm having a problem with some Canon RAW image files a second photographer sent me. He sent about 800 files and I'm only able to import into LR (1.3) about 15% of the files. The remainder will not import. Upon import, LR says something to this effect: "files appear to be unsupported or damaged." I tried them on both of my macs (my G5 and laptop) and had the same thing happened. Photoshop says: "Could not complete your request because Photoshop does not recognize this type of file."
They show with this icon: file:///Users/marthafitzsimon/Desktop/Picture%203.png
When I do the "get info" on these files, under "General:" it says, e.g., that a file is a 10.8MB file. Under the "More info:" box, it says the dimensions are 0x0 (that's weird because when I look at this for other good files there are numbers for the dimensions).
This is a picture of the "get info" window:
    file:///Users/marthafitzsimon/Desktop/Picture%201.png
I have tried to open these files in LR, Photoshop, Bridge and Preview and nothing will open these.
The files are locked so I unlocked one, but that made no difference whatsoever.
I noticed one thing about the naming convention on the files, but I don't think this matters. My own Canon RAW files always have the .CR2 extension. All of his files have the .cr2 extension. Mine are all uppercase and his are lowercase. However, I don't think this could matter because the files I was able to download of his all had the .cr2 extension, just like the ones I couldn't download.
(PS: Just in case you saw my earlier posting, this problem has nothing to do with that. This is another second photographer's files that I'm having problems with. Jonathon LeFaive solved that other problem for me.)
Thank you for any help you can provide! Martha

LR 3 is a complete new build so it will not overwrite the earlier version of LR 1.3 or its catalog or other settings.
The install procedure will recognize your LR 1.3 catalog and ask if you wish to create/ convert to a LR 3 catalog. This procedure will not overwrite your 1.3 catalog but will create a LR 3 compatable copy.
Download the trial which is good for 30 days before you will need to pay the upgrade price of $99 if you decide to keep. The trial is the full package and you will not be restricted in any way.
The new features are a substantial upgrade with significant improvement in the conversion output of your raw files.
Full details are provided in the "read me file" included with the download which should be read carefully before you install. The decision should be a no brainer.

  • Finally installed Adobe Photoshop Bridge CS6

I Finally installed Adobe Photoshop Bridge CS6 after 7 attempts and 3 appeals to Adobe support.
Adobe technical support was not helpful and I had to solve the problem myself.
The problem was that when installing Photoshop CS6 the Adobe Bridge component would not install.  This was because our corporate McAfee "virus scan enterprise 8.7.0i" was preventing the Adobe installer from changing or writing to the AutoRun.INF file in C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\Bridge CS6 Extensions\Adobe Output Module\mediagallery\resources\flashgallery\AUTORU.inf.
Once I disabled McAfee I was able to install all of the software. I am now able to run Adobe Bridge.
Our corporate version of McAfee has not pteviousaly created a problem with software installations.
Problem solved with no help whatsoever from Adobe

Problem solved. Yes, it was a coincidence. The problem had to do with my DVD preferences, not the Adobe installation. Thanks for your reply.
