Photoshop bug: cs6 and cc: interface freeze, no reaction
hello,
we discovered a potential bug or issue in photoshop:
under daily working conditions, 8h per day, during the last months/year i can observe the following behavior:
suddenly, at any action, the photoshop interface (all palettes, windows, everything) freezes and doesnt react on any mouse or button command. can wait for minutes, nothing happens.
found workaround: switch to finder by clicking with mouse pointer into the finder desktop,
and switch back to photoshop > interface is back and reacts again, everythings fine.
condition of bug: very annoying but can live with it so far through my workaround
frequenzy: several times a day (up to 20 or 30 times per day)
- reproduceable on mac osx 10.7 + 10.8 + 10.9
- reproduceable with photoshop cs6 and cc
- reproduceable on 3 different macs at 2 different working places so far
- mac pro 2006, mac pro 2012, imac late 2013 with each mac 48GB RAM or at least 32GB RAM (imac)
- reproduceable with 8 bit and 16 bit files, .psd and .psb
any idea?

If I remember correctly, and that is not always the case, I think that is a bug in Apple OS. Currently the cursor just dissapears and you have to do what you say to get it back.

Illustrator CS6 and Graphic Styles (Freezing)
Hi everyone, I'm on a Mac and have Illustrator CS6. Whenever I try to open up Graphic Styles, it freezes.
I deleted preferences and even did the disk permissions repair, then restarted. Nothing. I tried to create multiple types of documents too (print, web, etc), but whenever I try to open styles after creating that document, it freezes.
These are the vanilla default graphic styles, mind you.
It might freeze for other tools, but I'm not sure, haven't gotten that far in the investigation. Would anyone happen to have any ideas? :/ Thanks!!Just got this issue (yet again). I tried something I use to fix certain Bridge glitches - unmount any disk called USERS. I don't know why, but my Adobe programs don't like disks with this name. Then, when you click on graphic styles, give it like, 30sec - 2min to load. You can even just browse the interwebs. The AI icon on your toolbar will bounce when it's loaded up and ready to use again. Also, make sure the Graphic Styles aren't displayed when you close the file, or it can be hell to re-open it at all. Don't know why, but I had this same problem with CS5.

Cross platform upgrade question between Photoshop CS5/CS6 and multiple Windows/Mac computers

I'm currently using a Windows laptop and PC running Photoshop CS5 from a Student license I got in college. I am considering moving to an Apple laptop so I was looking at the cross platform update question on the forum that led me here: Order product | Platform, language swap
It's not really clear if I will be eligible for the upgrade, and Adobe support chat sent me to the forum, and that page sends me back to where I started to see if I am eligible. I would prefer to purchase the upgrade outright, rather than pay for the new monthly subscription model.
If I am eligible for a swap/upgrade to Apple CS6, will I still be able to use CS5 on my Windows PC?
Thanks.I don't have a definitive answer, but I have a feeling that a student teacher version is not eligible for an upgrade discount. You own the CS5 perpetual license, and can install it on two computers at the same time as CS6, CC etc. That will be the case in perpetuity. (not sure why I didn't just type 'forever' back there, or alert the cliche police 'Going forward')
Photoshop CS6 Extended will cost you just shy of US$1600 according to this Amazon page The non extended version does not give you the 3D tools, and Photoshop CC comes as the full extended version as standard. If you got the Photoshop / Lightroom Photography plan at a mere $10 a month, the price of CS6 would keep you subscribed for > three years. Photoshop CC has a lot of wonderful features CS6 does not have, and will never have, and CC will be be constantly updated 'in perpetuity'. ;-) $10 a month! Heck, what's not to like about that?!!! -

Bridge isn't the problem, it'll work fine.
But an individual application that is part of a suite can not be upgraded individually. You have to upgrade the whole suite. If you buy a Photoshop CS6 upgrade from Photoshop CS5, it simply won't work. The serial number will not be accepted. -
Photoshop Extended CS6 Crashes Instantly with no Error Report (Vid Inside)
Hello,
I have a single user license for Photoshop Extended CS6 and have never had problems with it until now. Yesterday I installed the Creative Cloud package and a trial version of Adobe Premiere Pro and since then I have had an issue with Photoshop CS6. I have uninstalled all Adobe Products on the machine and reinstalled PS Extended but still have the same issue. I have attached a video where you will see what happens. I open the program and after a couple of seconds it closes by itself with no warning or error message after. I did notice however that if I open a menu (in the video the help menu then System Info) the program will remain open until I close said window. I have tried uninstalling, system restore and the cleaning tool recommended by Adobe. I'm not sure what else to do at this point. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

I uninstalled all Adobe products as that was recommended in another thread and reinstalled it from this location Download CS6 products
I download File 1 (of 2) and that is the PS CS6 download that accepts my serial number but then continues to close instantly.
After downloading File 2 (of 2), called Photoshop_13_LS16.exe, I attempt to open it and receive this error message:
I have managed to manually install update 13.0.1.3 as it was the latest version I could find on the site Adobe - Photoshop : For Windows
Even with that it still crashes instantly. -
Issues with 64 bit version of PS CS6 and now CC hanging, also sniffer_gpu.exe
I cannot use the 64 bit version of Photoshop for awhile now. I had hoped that with CC coming out that would fix the problem, but it hasn't. I am able to use the 32 bit version, so after putting some time in with Adobe tech support to no avail after some hours, I'd just used that, but with the problem continuing in the latest edition I figured I should deal with it.
I am running Windows 7 pro, an intel core i7 950 processor, and an AMD (ATI) Radeon HD 5700 video card.
Both 64 bit versions of Photoshop hang for me before I can open any file. Looking in the resource monitor, at the wait chain, it states, 'one or more threads of Photoshop.exe are waiting to finish network I/O.'. The only way I can close the app then is by manually killing it in task manager or resource monitor.
One thing I've noticed that may or may not be related, sniffer_gpu.exe only appears in the resource monitor while running a 64 bit version of Photoshop, both CS6 and CC. Once it appears, it seems to continually use 12% of my cpu, and even after I kill Photoshop, it continues to run and use 12% of my cpu, until I kill it as well. This does not happen at all when I run the 32 bit versions, I do not even see sniffer_gpu.exe appear.
Anyone have a clue what the problem might be?Way back when, I did indeed uninstall and reinstall my Catalyst drivers, still no luck, still same problem.
Finally today, some 6 months later, I was again dealing with Photoshop Phone tech support for another hour or two, including much hold time, finally having the issue excalated, as all software and drivers seemed up to date, and yet all versions of the gpu sniffer program still could not identify my gpu.
After I got off the phone with them, I went to the AMD site and followed instructions on how to uninstall and reinstall their software. One step I had not thought of or tried was, after uninstalling the Catalyst software, repairing the .Net 4.5.1 framework through the Microsoft site before reinstalling the Catalyst software. It somehow seems that though the Catalyst installer software supposedly installs the .Net 4.5 framework, it cannot, unless the framework is already installed...
Anyway, this does seem to have finally gotten the 64bit Version of Photoshop to finally work on my desktop. -
Photoshop CS6 unusable -interface freezes and not enough memory message - on a specific hardware
I usually speak french but I'll try to be as clear as possible.
I work as a technician in a school and we're experiencing a major issue with Photoshop CS6.
We have 3 differents computer's hardware. Photoshop CS6 works fine on 2 of them.
On the other though, Photoshop CS6 is unusable. With this specific hardware, Photoshop has the same weird behavior on each machine (around 50), so it's not related to an hardware malfunction (like bad ram) I suppose.
Our problem is this: Once Photoshop is opened and you minimize it in the task bar, as soon as you maximise it to use it again, the interface doesn't respond well at all, the interface is all messed up, some windows are missing and most of the time Photoshop freezes. And after that, whatever we try to do, like selecting whatever option, we have the ''not enough memory'' message. So we can't do nothing with the program after that, from selecting another tool to saving a file.
Even when no file is opened and we have plenty of RAM that can be used, the problem is there.
The same problem occurs if we open a window above Photoshop (internet, word, everything). As soon as we go back to work in Photoshop, the interface freezes and windows are missing, and we get the same not enough memory message every time.
We already tried to change/desactivate each performance settings in Photoshop, we already installed the latest Photoshop CS6 update.
We've updated BIOS, processor driver, graphic card driver, etc.
We have this problem with Photoshop CS6 64 bits and 32 bits.
We dont have this problem with any other program in the CS6 suite.
We dont have this problem with Photoshop CS5.
We have the same graphic card and driver on the others computers where Photoshop CS6 works perfectly well.
What's bugging us is everything else in the production suite works fine!
Please, do you think of anything else we can try?
We're hopeless!

Photoshop CS6 and CC freezes in Open/Save dialog
Photoshop is unuasable for me. I was running CS6 but it kept freezing when I tried to open a file. I uninstalled and installed CC -- same problem. I checked the preferences to see if there was a setting for an Adobe file dialog and it froze again.
I suspect it has something to do with Mountain Lion 10.8.4 but I don't have this problem in other Adobe apps.
Ran Disk Utility, verified permissions, verified disk -- everything checks out. Not sure what to do
This sucks because I have a big project due this weekendIt also could be a plugin, anti-virus or other utilities.
Try disabling any third party plugins you have installed.
Check the utility programs as well.
And you can try trashing the OS prefs for the save dialog in Photoshop: com.adobe.photoshop.plist. -

It would be very helpful if the tools and font size choices were enhanced to Larger, Largest or custom enhance. Anyone know if that is an idea we can send to Adobe?I wonder about folk who use small screen laptops with a high pixel density. I'd guess that there are 1920x1200 laptops with 17 or possibly even 15 inch screens, and Photoshop is going to be a nightmare to use on them. Heck, the notebook sized iPad 3 has a >2000 pixel screen! That sort of pixel density is going to work its way through to laptops, before too long. I have read about LED televisions with 4K (equivalent of four 1080 panels) and even 8K (equivalent of 8 1080 panels) screens. Is that going to work its way through to computer monitors? To be fair, we are talking about 60inch screens here, but nothing surprises me anymore when it comes to gamers and their hardware!!!
I have all but given up using Photoshop on my 19 inch laptop with a 1920x1200 screen because it is not comfortable compared with the 30 inch monitor I use for my main screen at home (also 1920 x 1200). This is a frequently asked question, and Chris has said it would be a major undertaking to upsize the icons, but it surely has to go on the list for the next upgrade. -
Photoshop CS6 and CC freezing!
Both Photoshop CS6 and Photoshop CC are crashing about 1 minute after opening a file. Even if I just open the file and let it sit there doing nothing, the application gives me the beachball of death after 60 seconds or so. Any suggestions would be helpful, since I'm getting nothing done without Photoshop of some variety or other.
Mac Pro 2.8Ghz Quad-Core Intel Xeon, 12Gb RAM, 1 Gb NVidia, OSX 10.8.4OK, how about now... PS is hanging whenever I use the Text tool by the time I type the third character.
Edit: After the dump below - I deleted the PS font cache, then ran YASU to delete system font cache, etc. Same problem.
Turned off Font Preview and it that seems to have fixed it - at least I can actually use the type tool now.

Photoshop CS6 and Yosemite freezing tools!
Hi i have now upgraded to Yosemite and Photoshop CS6 and gone into melt down. Switching tools and using short cuts is almost impossible or frustrating. To switch from one tool to another will work 1 in 10 times.. you generally need to click something else to get it to switch tools. Changing memory and cache sizes hasn't helped.
Any ideas welcomeQuit Photoshop then go to Menus, shortcuts, Lasso tool, or Photoshop stop working when using a Wacom tablet | Mac OS and install the White Window Workaround plug-in.

Photoshop CS6 and CC versions - which is better ?
I use Photoshop CS6 for all my work but some of the features of the CC version are missing (such as the new Perspective warp). If I install CC can I still use my CS6 files and do these products run parallel or integrated ? i.e. will I have 2 photoshop programs stored on my hard-drive or one with all of the features of both ? Think of CC as CS7. It isthe next full upgrade. They just decided to rename it CC as it intragrates into the cloud features like syncing presets for example.
Therefore all CS6 files will work in CC. You can keep both on your system if you like, why not I do. In fact I have CS5, CS6 and CC at the moment.
If you choose to, you can uninstall CS6 and keep just CC. Just keep in mind what you save will be for CC and can be loaded into CS6 if you have maximum compatability turned on, otherwise it may not work. (Never tried it)
If you purchased any plugins or filters, you may need to reinstall them for CC to use them. People have run into issues copy/pasting the files between versions.
To use any of the new features of photoshop, you need to install CC. CS6 will only get bug corrections. The exception to this is camera raw, the latest version is designed for both CS6 and CC. -
Photoshop CS6 and Mountain Lion
I have 2011 Macbook pro with Mtn Lion. Put on PS CS6 and have pixelation and freezing, and I have to force quit. Also cannot see all my 3rd Party plugins. I contacted Adobe (not easy) and they said problems are all due to plugins and thats all they say. No trouble shooting...no nothing. (Plugin manufacturer won't help me either). Apple can't help. I have $3000 computer that is useless.
1. Do I sell computer or wait hoping Apple or Adobe will get this together?
2. Other choice is install WIndows 7 on boot camp and run Paint Shop Pro. However I doubt any of the old plugins will work on the 64 bit. What if I install 32 bit WIndows 7? Will old plugins work?
I need help, this is frustrating to no end.It seems to me that many of the 3rd party plugins are older and I suppose they are 32 bit.
Easiest way to tell is to check your filters list. If you know the filters are installed correctly (in Photoshop's Plug-ins folder) and they don't show up in the list while running PS, they're 32 bit, or possibly even 16 bit depending on how old they are.
So I cannot use either PS program successfully. Is there no fix even for PS4?
I presume you mean PS CS4 and not literally version 4? Adobe officially supports CS6 and CS5.5 in Mountain Lion. CS4 is Intel native as a Universal app, but I haven't tried it in ML, so don't know how well it works.
Regarding reinstalling Mtn Lion, I could try that but the problem only occurs in Photoshop so do you think that could be the cause?
Hard to say. As an example, I tried installing the CS5, CS5.5 and CS6 Master Collections in Snow Leopard and Mountain Lion. I did this in all combinations, erasing the test drive each time so there were no leftovers from other installs. Each install had all updates installed. In each case, desktop icons were broken such that not all files saved from PS would produce an icon. Two other much larger problems is that saving files would at times either give the error that I didn't have permission to save a file, or it would say .afpdeleted could not be save. In either case, the file being saved would be deleted! You had to do a Save As again immediately before closing the image in PS to save it.
The point of this is that reinstalling the OS after installing the Adobe software fixed all of these issues every single time. So while it may seem illogical, reinstalling the OS might fix the problem. -
Photoshop and Bridge occasionally freeze in original user account

Branching this to a new discussion. Pietrogpazzi is experiencing difficulties when closing Photoshop CS6 and Bridge and it freezing in his original user account. When creating a new user account on Mac OS 10.8 Photoshop and Bridge appear to be behaving normally.
