Photoshop can't open a Generic EPS

I have just upgraded to Leopard 10.5.0.3. I am on CS 3. I used to be able to create a eps file from Indesign, and open it in Photoshop. I am using CS2 right now... Now I get; Could not complete your request because the parser module cannot parse the file. My work around is saving a high rez pdf and then, I can open that. Can someone help me? Thanks Lisa

Which is it, CS2 or CS3?
>I have just upgraded to Leopard 10.5.0.3.
I am on CS 3. I used to be able to create a eps file from Indesign, and open it in Photoshop.
I am using CS2 right now.
CS2 is not supported in Leopard and it will never get updated.

  • Photoshop can't open TIF file?

I've just received a TIF file (approx 5mb) that Photoshop can't open.  I get an error: " Could not complete your request because the file is not compatible with this version of Photoshop".  I've never had trouble with TIFs before, and assumed a TIF is a TIF is a TIF....
I also tried opening the TIF file in the 32-bit version of PS CS5, but got the same error.  I then tried it on my 32-bit Vista machine, and got the same error in both Photoshop CS5 and CS3.
The file itself is OK - I opened it no problem in Corel Photopaint (latest version) and resaved it as a PSD file, which then opened fine in PS. Seems odd that a flaky Corel program is more compatible than Photoshop!  It's a recently created TIF file too, just a photo of a new product.
    Anyone else struck this issue?
    I'm running CS5 on a Win 7 64-bit PC with Core i7 850, 12gb ram.

Most likely the TIFF contains Photoshop metadata or layer data, and that part is corrupt.
Other applications won't read that section of the file, and thus won't see the corruption.
It's not a matter of compatibility, or the file format - it's a matter of Photoshop reads more than other apps, and detects the corruption that other apps are ignoring.

  • Photoshop can't open -1712

I get this error when trying to open PS (it has worked just days before):
    "Photoshop can't open -1712"
Why? How do I remedy this?

    Hi Migdphotog,
1712 is apparently a "timeout" error, meaning that some program tried to do something, and it couldn't complete the task and so it "timed out". This would likely occur if you are trying to access some external resource that isn't available.
Please try to boot in safe boot and log in to your original account in safe boot and then reboot the machine normally and check if the issue persists.
Please refer to below article on how to boot in safe boot.

  • Photoshop Can't Open .png Files

Hey, I'm having a bit of trouble here with Photoshop CS5. When I drag & drop/open a .png picture in Photoshop, it gives me the following error:
I can open .jpeg files all good, and I'm not too sure about.gif or any others, cause I only use Photoshop mainly to do graphics and such. I did some research and other people insisted that is was a corrupted file within the Photoshop directory. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated!

Well, Chris, I couldn't check by myself because I had a very little time in these days, too much work to do, but every kind of file have its own header as you may know, regardless of the file extension itself, so I wonder why Photoshop can't read the file header instead of the file extension, considering that file header is almost every 8byte long, so reading the first 8 bytes identify for sure the file type and then it can be handled by the specific function to view it. That's how programs usually work, extension are useful to the user to identify a file, but shouldn't be the only way a software identify a file type. Micosoft itself, that is known to be bad to user-friendly stuff, can open document with MSOffice even if they have not an extension. Mac open everything regardless of extension, Linux open everything regardless of extension.
Now, in this specific case I really don't know if the png have the right header, as I said I will check it as soon as I have time, but the above suggestion should be taken in consideration. Reading the first 8bytes of a file will not cause any performance issue, just two codes line to add (and an associative array with header->filetype to be passed to the PS CS5 function that open the files...).

  • Photoshop can't open more than one graphic at a time without crashing

    I get the error:
The instruction at "0x7c918af2" referenced memory at "0x00000010". The memory could not be "written".
Anytime I try to open more than one image in Photoshop at a time, regardless of how I do it - doesn't matter if I choose the image and "open in photoshop" or if I am in photoshop and go to "file/open".
It's Photoshop CS3. I have already uninstalled, restarted the computer and reinstalled. I tried to "repair/change" from Windows, but it asks for the CS3 cd and then CS4, which I don't have since I'm using CS3.
This is quite frustrating as it would be nice to be able to merge photos and the myriads of other things you can do with multiple images at once, if opening them does not crash your program.

  • Photoshop can't open multiple files...

I have Photoshop CS3 and I've had it for some time...pretty much since its release in 2007. In all that time, it's worked perfectly.
A couple days ago, it started doing this thing where I could open a file and everything would be fine, but then I'd try to open another file and it'd automatically stop working. I.E. I would get the "Photoshop has stopped working" message. This happens with any file and any file format. I can never have more than one file open.
This is a HUGE problem for me--I'm a graphic designer and it's almost impossible to work with Photoshop this way for the rest of my career. I lost my CS3 installation discs when I moved and I don't want to have to buy a new license...but I can't work this way.
    Any ideas?
I'm on Windows Vista on an HP Pavilion Notebook. Thanks!

Also, once everything is working, think about making a backup image of your hard drive

  • Photoshop can't open any file...

I open Photoshop CS4 program normally and when i hit "Open" and i select a file (JPEG, PSD, TIFF, PNG etc..) the Open window disappears but nothing happen. The only thing left is the Photoshop gray background. The file doesn't open. The same happen when i hit "New", and still nothing... Then i use my new Photoshop CS5 but is the same thing... I'm really pissed off, since that is the computer i use in my work place and now I can't do nothing.. In top of all i have no idea what is happening and why this strange behavior.. Does Adobe have a solution for this kind of mess? Does anyone know what is wrong? Please, any help appreciated....

It sounds as if you have a significant Windows problem...
Are you able to access the menus after you see this happen or do you have to forcibly close Photoshop?
I would start by making sure the Windows drivers (e.g., video drivers, scanner driver if any, etc.) are all up to date.
Also, try temporarily disabling your antivirus software while testing to see if it is possibly affecting Photoshop's ability to get at files.  Some antivirus software simply doesn't work properly.
Then I might try opening a file without OpenGL by temporarily disabling the OpenGL setting in Edit - Preferences - Performance (and restarting Photoshop after making the change).

  • Photoshop can't open

    Hello,
When I start photoshop, the initialization stops and leave me an error :
"Impossible to open a work file because the file is untraceable"
    And then :
"Impossible to initialize Photoshop because the file is untraceable"
I use the CS5,5 Master collection
    My config : Intel Core i7 2670QM CPU 2,2GHz
    RAM : 6Go 1600MHz
    Nvidia GeForce GT 555M
Can't undersdant why it won't open...
    Sry for my english

Can you please re-check the spelling of the error message emitted by Photoshop...
Are you sure it's "untraceable" and not a different word?
It's possible a preferences reset to defaults will help clear up the problem for you.  To reset all of Photoshop's configuration preferences to defaults, press and hold the Control - Shift - Alt key combination immediately after cold-starting Photoshop.  If you're quick enough - and you have to be very quick - it will prompt you to delete its current preferences.  Be aware that this is not undoable, and that you'll need to re-make all your preference changes.

  • Getting a message that Photoshop can't open a file because Camera Raw isn't supporting lens profile

For months, I have been using Lightroom 4.4, Camera Raw 7.4 with Photoshop CS5 and my Nikon D600 and Nikon AF-S Nikkor 24-85    3.5-4.5 lens.  In my LR workflow, I enable Profile Corrections and there is a drop down for the lens model as well as a profile.  Today, I am getting this message when I go to edit in Photoshop
Could not complete your request because the file appears to be from a camera model which is not supported by the installed version of Camera Raw.
Please visit the Camera Raw help documentation for additional information.
I don't know what has changed, or what to do.  Need some help

In Photoshop CS5 do Help / About Plug-ins… / Camera Raw and see what version it says and if there is more than one Camera Raw listed.
Unless CS5 was a typo, PS CS5 only supports up to ACR 6.7 which does not support the D600 so that is why you’re getting that message.
Why you weren’t getting the message, before, is the question.  In LR’s preferences find the button that says something like Reset Warning Dialogs and click that, then the next time you try to open one of your raw files in CS5 from LR 4.x click Render using LR Adjustments and put a checkmark in Don't show this again, and you should be ok, although in this mode, LR creates a TIF or PSD (how ever you have it set up in the External Editors preferences) and PS opens that intermediate file.

Pellissier - you need to do some system maintenance, start from scratch and re-install. I would recommend Onyx which will repair permissions as well as cache cleans and other maintenance tasks which may not have been done for a while. Then re-install Photoshop
Free download, and probably should be part of the operating system. lord knows why its not

  • Can't open Canon 7D CR2 files in Bridge

I have Photoshop and Bridge CS4 running on an iMac.  I just purchased a Canon 7D (great, btw),.  Unfortunately Bridge and Photoshop can't open the files.  The error message says Photoshop can't recognize this type of file.  I can convert them to tiff, jpg, etc using other programs, but I'd rather not have the extra conversion.
Any advise on correcting this error?

It sounds like you are running an older version of the Adobe Camera Raw plug-in.  That camera model was not supported in versions 5.5 and earlier of Adobe Camera Raw.
You need to upgrade to ACR 5.7, which is the last version of ACR to run with CS4.
Use the auto updater in the Help menu of Photoshop.  If it doesn't work for whatever reason, download ACR 5.7 amnually and carefully install it according to the instructions.  Please note that the path to the correct location starts with your root level Library, not your user library.

  • Please help... Photoshop crashes whem opening raw files.

I am a professional photographer from Portugal, i have 6 macintosh to work with photoshop.
    My last machine, Mac Pro
    Identifier pattern: MacPro2, 1
Name of processor: Quad-Core Intel Xeon
Processor speed: 3 GHz, with 9Gb of ram, OSX 10.5.5 ..... and just installed the CS4.
Get a crash several times a day!
I have just installed the photoshop, format the disk before install, and run the permissions, everything ok. I have 2 other disks in raid, on a total of 1Tb to Scratch disk ...
When I am working ... and open a file Cr2 from Canon or Nikon's NEF, or even DNG of my Hasselblad ... the machine crash.
I dont know what to do more ...
I bought the Photoshop CS4, because I thought that it will solve those problems. I had semilar problems with CS3.
Now i buy a new graphics card!
My current is: ATI Radeon X1900 XT
and im waiting for NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT for Mac
    What else can I do?
Please help me to find a solution.
    Very respectfully.
    Antonio Rodrigues
PS. sorry for my bad English.

Around my studio we call out "I GOT CR2-ed!" "ARrrrggh!!"
I don't hold any hope Adobe will either acknowledge or fix the problem, but I found a mostly working workaround.
I don't need nor use Bridge, since Apple has a stable way of previewing cr2 files, and Photoshop can directly open them. I often open multiple files directly into Photoshop and found this:
Before ever opening cr2 files, SAVE any open work. first. After selecting the files to open, WAIT until all the yellow exclamation marks have disappeared beside all images before pulling the trigger and hitting enter. This includes the large primary preview.
Though my impatience still gets me cr2-ed occasionally, I still curse Adobe under my breath. They could at least grey out the "Open Images" button until all previews are finished, if in fact this is the culprit.

  • Can't open pdfs with Adobe Acrobat X

I can't open pdfs with Adobe Acrobat X. I get this message:
Warning: Distiller will not process .Log, .PDF or .JDF file extensions
What do I need to do to be able to open .pdf files? I could open them previously.

What are you getting the message in response to? Was this a creation of a PDF that resulted in the message? What are you using Distiller for? Distiller can only open PS and EPS files for processing to create a PDF.
PDF files are opened in Acrobat. For opening PDFs, Distiller has nothing to do with the opening. So I really have no idea. It sounds like you may just be having a creation error since you mentioned a log file. If you were creating a PDF, have you checked the LOG file for the errors? The log file is usually located where you were going to create the PDF, but is created as Distiller processes the file (part of the general Acrobat creation process) and is deleted if successful.
If you were trying to create, go back to the original application and print to file with the Adobe PDF printer. Then open that file in Distiller to create a PDF. Any errors will be shown in the window and an indication if the PDF was created or not.
