Photoshop canvas is hidden
I keep having issues with photoshop in Lion. I open a file in photoshop, but the file cannot be seen. If I go to the photoshop menu inder windows, I can see the file name listed as an open window, but that open window just does not show. I go up to mission control and it is not there anywhere. All hte photoshop menus ect are showing, just not the main canvas of the file open. Kind of pointless to open a file when you cant see the file that is open.
I have to keep quitting photoshop and then relaunching it and resetting the preferences to defualt.
This problem happened to me twice!!! I ended up blogging about my problem and all the troublshooting I went through, and how (on two seperate occassions), I ended up solving my problem I hope this is helpful!

Hi there!
My photoshop canvas is showing at 100% but the images is really small, when I zoo into 200% it's the correct site but it is really blurry. I have been told that this is how you need to work for a macbook pro, but surely that is not true I can not work on a burly pixelated picture.
SOMEONE HELP!!!A retina screen is one where the resolution is double that of a normal screen. 227 ppi vs 114 ppi normal. A real problem when building websites for normal screens.
851pixels/227 ppi = 3.74 inches at 100% which would be 7 inches on my normal screen at 100% You have a retina screen.
Mac specs:
Retina display: 13.3-inch (diagonal) LED-backlit display with IPS technology; 2560-by-1600 resolution at 227 pixels per inch with support for millions of colors
Native resolution: 2560 by 1600 pixels (Retina); scaled resolutions: 1680 by 1050, 1440 by 900, and 1024 by 640 pixels
If you are a web designer, this article explains it beautifully and tells you what you need to do.

Photoshop Canvas improvement idea
Hi guys,
not sure if i'm posting this in the right area as it's more of a feature request. I just wanted to see what other pro users thought of it.
many a time i am trying to make a mish-mash to get some ideas flowing quickly. ok, I have a 120 x 400 document (banner or something)....and i am trying to play with some fonts or some pasted image that has to fit the height only. so if i scale the image/font up, it stretches far out to the right of the doc (about 50% or more for example) and is cut off.
now, to make the doc the right size for the *idea*, i have to resize the canvas with a little guess work to obtain the best fit and then fix the background, etc. if I change my mind...I have to do it all again, etc, etc
wouldn't it be nice, if while we're scaling like this (ctrl+T), (or even ctrl+click an item in the layers palette to select it) to have a "Resize Canvas to selected" ???
illustrator cs4 *sort* of has it (ability to change size visualy) with the artboards (its a great feature)....but this right-click feature added to both photoshop and illustrator would make them so much faster to work with. especially when you want the canvas to match exactly or trying ideas on the fly
just my 2 cents.Thali-Hoo wrote:
crop is in no way the same thing as "resize canvas" as Peter was originally suggesting. resizing the canvas is non-destructive to the psd contents and its layers in contrast to "cropping" which removes everything outside of the document bounds (in photoshop, since we are on the ADOBE forums!!!...hint hint Jed).
Peter didn't say ANYTHING about wanting a non-destructive way of doing it. In fact, he didn't really say much at all about the other content on the page – just the text overflowing the document.
If that's the case, he can:
Create a new document.
Paste the text into the new document.
Image >> Crop.
Drag+drop the other layers from the original document into the new one.
Then the layer information will be in tact, at least. I guess he'd still have to line up the content though. That might be a problem, depending on what he's doing. It might work for his particular scenario though.
In Corel PHOTO-PAINT...
Just kidding...
Cropping destroys other layer information in PP as well, no matter what method is used.
I'm just trying to help a brother out guys, sheesh! Trying to come up with solutions for him here. Why do you get so offended at at the sheer mention of Corel PHOTO-PAINT? Even if it's intended to provide feature request ideas for Adobe? -
Stopping a swf when canvas is hidden
Hi - I have a really really simple little viewstack that is giving me trouble.
The idea is that a different swf will be loaded into each canvas of the viewstack, and will be active when the view is active, and unloaded when the view gets hidden. Currently the swfs load as expected, but audio continues to play even after the view is hidden.Hi Greg - how do I unload it?
(I'm not sure my pasted-in code is showing)
I am doing this: hideEffect = decisionLoader.unloadAndStop();
Where decisionLoader is the ID of the SWFLoader object present in that view.
Code follows below:

When I work on a job in Photoshop Cs6, the canvas turns totally black until I click outside the work area. Anyone having same problem?

Hello:
Have a question regarding the canvas size of my Photoshop. I don't know what I did, but it takes up the entire screen when I create a new file. Is there any way to shrink it back down to the image I'm about to open w/o having a gray background? Thank you in advance for any suggestions! -EllaSorry for not indicating what version of Photoshop I was using. It's version Elements 6 and yes, I'm on Macintosh. It isn't a problem with the document window and docking. It's already undock. The problem I'm having is that when I get ready to create an image from the clip board, and click on New file, I get a huge gray window with the image in the center of the huge (gray) canvas. Before, I would get the canvas to be the same size as the image. I would like that when I copy off the clipboard, the canvas be the size of the image. As it is, I have to keep going to the lower right corner and shrinking the canvas to the proper size every time I get ready to do a new image, no matter what size it is. Thank you. -Ella

CS3 Photoshop - Canvas resize anchor grid not selectable anymore. What happened?
Hi,
I have Version 10.0.1 and up to two days ago I could select resize canvas, change the pixels, select the appropriate anchor and all went well. Now, for some reason I can no longer select an anchor point. Absolutely nothing happens if I click on one of the arrows.
I have checked Image mode and it is RGB 8bit. I have gone through all of the settings I can think of and no luck.
I cannot remember making any change that would affect this function but apparently I did. I doubt the program just decided to quit. My OS is XP Pro but that hasn't changed. Nothing has that I can think of
Does anyone have any idea what I need to do to get this to function again?Reset your preferences
Hold down CTRL + SHIFT + ALT keys then start photoshop. Window pops up choose yes. -
[Possibly OT] Photoshop CS2 irreversibly hidden on Tiger / MBP
I'm not 100% sure this is a Tiger issue, but I thought I'd at least ask the resident Mac gurus. This has happened a few times, and I'm not sure what causes it:
# When CMD+TABbing out of Photoshop, all open document windows will occasionally hide themselves.
# If this happens, CMD+TABbing back to Photoshop doesn't show any of the open windows. The Photoshop menu appears at the top of the screen, but none of the items are clickable.
# Right-clicking on the Photoshop dock icon shows the names of my open documents, as well the "Show" option. Unfortunately, clicking on any of these items does nothing: "Show" simply shows the application menu (see previous bullet), and clicking on the names of open documents simply plays the system error tone.
Has anyone encountered this problem before, and are there any workarounds? I'm working on an unsaved mockup I'd really hate to lose...
Thanks in advance for your help. I really appreciate it.Ignoring the spam.............
What exactly is happening when you say you there are problems in opening images?
Have you tried cntrl + click on the the photo icon and then checking the options on "Open with..."
When you download the images do they have any kind of suffix eg .jpg or .tiff etc? -
Photoshop canvas changed when I updated Photoshop.
I do alot of layering different exposures in photoshop and usually I just drag and drop the photo on top of the one Im working with and I can align them pretty easily. For some reason now when I move the photo anywhere but right in the square it starts disappearing. How do I make it so I can drag the photo around the whole page again?
Not sure if I quite understand what is disappearing, but if you hold shift when you drag and drop, it will paste in place on the new canvas

I am creating credits in photoshop. I am in a DVCPRO HD 720p sequence.
My photoshop canvas is 1280x4067 because they are rolling credits. When I export as a TIFF (to preserve transparency), and import it into FCP, the image is long and skinny so that it will fit into the viewer, but the image is at 100 scale. What gives? If I've got it at 1280 across in Photoshop, why is FCP displaying it as a fraction of that?
Should I increase my canvas to an ungodly amount? There's got to be something I'm doing wrong.
Any help is greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
CameronWell, sorry, I feel silly. The viewer was at 13%. Didn't catch it.

Photoshop CC window is solid black on 2nd monitor
What version of Photoshop? Photoshop CC 14.0 x64
Have you installed the recent updates? Yes
What operating system? Mac OS X 10.8.4
What kind(s) of image file(s)? Affecting PSDs and JPGs. Not PNGs, those are working
If you are getting error message(s), what is the full text of the error message(s)? No error message
What were you doing when the problem occurred? Setting up new monitor.
Has this ever worked before? No and yes, monitor is new but, I still have Photoshop CS6 and that works fine.
What other software are you running? At the moment: Chrome, AI, Calendar, Textedit, and System Preferences.
Tell us about your computer hardware. MacBook Pro with 15" Retina display (set to the "More Space" setting), 8GB RAM, 2.4 GHz i7, 172GB free space on the SSD. Monitor is Hanns.G HE225DPB 1920x1080 at 60Hz
Has this ever worked before? This question worked when it was asked the first time.
As I drag the window back and forth between the external display and my laptop display, the previous state briefly shows. When I drag it to the external monitor it looks ok for a split second in vertical bands that refresh to solid black. Same when I'm dragging the window back, the window remains black on my main laptop monitor until it refreshes back to normal, in the same vertical-band fashion. The frame of the window, including rulers looks ok, but the image area, including the canvas color turns black. This blackness can be captured in a screenshot.
On the PNG that is working, I do get some black as the image resizes between displays (stays at 100% but on the lower res monitor it doubles in size). In CS6 the image does not resize, the % changes (16.67 on external, 33.33% on laptop) and remains approximately the same size.
Perhaps this is more of a bug than something I can do anything about, but I am unable to login to Photoshop.com (someone else has already posted about this issue there, 5 days ago, not responses yet), I get an "it is no longer possible to create an account" message, even though I already have an account.
Thanks.Yeah they didn't unfortunately. These issues started up within the first 5 minutes of upgrading to Yosemite, across two of our computers.
It's a consistent issue that whenever i move between my monitors my photoshop canvas goes black and i have to move photoshop to the other monitor and back again to make it work. On top of that I am consistently getting these glitch issues documented here.

(another) stacked canvas on content canvas problem
I've searched the forums for the last 2+ hours and can't find a solution for my problem, although there are hundreds of questions on this subject.
I have a stacked canvas on top of a content canvas. The canvases share the same window. They also share a data block. I added radio buttons on the main canvas to "show/hide" the stacked (my ultimate goal is to have 2-3 stacked and toggle. When hide, the stacked canvas is hidden, but when i click show, it is not. I understand reading all the posts that the block with focus will display, and I've added both a go_block and go_item prior to the show_view. Below is my code. MEL_DETAILS is content and MEL_LINE_ITEM is stacked.
IF :stack = 'SHOW_STACK' THEN
GO_BLOCK('MEL_ITEM');
GO_ITEM('MEL_ITEM.MIS_PROJECT_NO');
SHOW_VIEW('MEL_LINE_ITEM');
SET_VIEW_PROPERTY('MEL_LINE_ITEM', visible, property_true);
SET_VIEW_PROPERTY('MEL_LINE_ITEM', display_position, 718, 583);

Paste in Place in Photoshop CS6 is not working, am I missing something?
Hey there,
I've been using the Creative Suite since CS4, but still count myself as a beginner.
I'm building a psd file with vectors from an ai file. I recall that in CS5 and CS5.5 I had no issue copying a vector from Illustrator and then using "paste in place" to land it in the same relative spot on the Photoshop canvas. Today, my world has crumbled! Try as I might, I cannot get my vector shapes to "paste in place".
I am using Windows 7, service pack 1, and CS6 64 bit edition. Both Illustrator and Photoshop were entirely up to date as of today, and I'm in the midst of doing a reinstall, just in case that helps anything. I have already tried dumping the preference file, to no avail.
Having taken a look through the forums, it seems that Illustrator's clipboard has been handling data differently somehow, and I'm pondering whether this might be the culprit of my issue. However, copying and pasting in place within Illustrator seems to work fine, problems only arise when I copy from Illustrator into Photoshop.
I feel that I am likely missing something easy to overlook, and I would greatly appreciate some help.

I asked a friend about this issue, and he says that functionality was never there. Is that true? Perhaps it should be, it would be extremely useful. Even though I thought I recalled having done this in the past, I guess I must be mistaken.Illustrator has a different origin behavior. There is a global origin and a per artbord origin. you need to fix the problem in AI.

Why is Photoshop crashing when saving a TARGA file after a PSD
I am a graphic designer and having a problem since the company I work for recently upgraded to CS5.
Here's the workflow:
1. Open a RGB mode PSD template in Photoshop
2. Find imagery on the internet, through stock photo banks or google
3. Drag images onto Photoshop canvas or open file in photoshop and drag into template
4. Save a PSD file on a server
5. Save a TGA file on the desktop, sometimes with an alpha channel as 32 bit or flattened 24 bit
Here's the problem:
After I save the PSD file photoshop with the file still open, I go to SAVE AS --> Rename the file--> Choose TGA File --> Choose save to desktop --> Click Save. Immediately after clicking save before the TGA Option Box (16, 24, 32 Bit) shows up, Photoshop crashes. It completely quits with an error that photoshop unexpectedly quit. We never had this problem with CS3 and we have 5 workstations with CS5 and all have this problem. Somedays it might not happen at all sometimes it happens 20+ times in a day.
Strategies I'm considering:
-"Purge All" after saving your psd file before you make your alpha channel and save the targa file.
-"Turn Of Font Preview", this is a setting under photoshop preferences
-"Adjust Cache Levels and Tile Size", this is a setting under photoshop preferences->performance
-Make sure computer is not set to sleep at night so that it can run the internal maintenance script.
Is anyone else having this problem? Does anyone have any thoughts on why this could be happening and how to fix it.Here is the crash report.

Import and use custom Illustrator Symbol Library in Photoshop?
I would like to import and use my own (project-specific) Illustrator Symbol Libraries in Photoshop
Background info
- I create BIG amounts of assets (for UI design) in Adobe Illustrator which I save as Symbols.
- I store these symbols in a custom symbol library so I can re-use them in a different file
- Reason A: to be able to re-use these symbols within the Illustrator file to visualize different "interaction flows" to my clients
- Reason B: I use vector assets because they allow me to accomodate for different screen resolutions in the future
Wish
A: I would like to be able to open the same symbol library I created in Illustrator in Photoshop and drag the symbols onto my Photoshop canvas
B: If I change a symbol in Illustrator it should be updated in my Photoshop file
Question
- Does anyone know of a way to do this? A work-around, a plugin or a Script would be fine too...
regards, KoenB: If I change a symbol in Illustrator it should be updated in my Photoshop file

But that is for placed Smart Objects, and would affect changed Symbols in ai-files naturally only if there were instances of them in the document.
Basically I find what you are asking pretty unrealistic* and would be surprised if an easy solution would be forthcoming.
Scripting might offer possible work-arounds that use BridgeTalk to get Illustrator content over to Photoshop, but that would probably be slow and not meet what you are expecting.
The possibly easiest approach might be to have a Script create a new Layer and place one Symbol on it for each one of the Symbols in Illustrator, then save a psd with Layers.
Why do you need the Symbols in Photoshop anyway, if I may ask?
Edit: *) unrealistic in terms of the functionality currently being realizable with a reasonable expenditure of resources; but I’m admittedly a layman with regard to that.

Which drivers to use in Win 7 for 330M?
Standard bootcamp drivers are quite old so I went to upgrade the drivers from nVidia.com; I noticed that nVidia doesn't support the 330M under its driver page, am I to assume the 330M is an Apple specific part? Will nVidia support the 330M in an upco
