Photoshop CC 14.1.2 - Save to PDF text error

Dear Adobe,
I have a huge problem with saving to PDF. See pic.
The fonts are distorted and white artifacts occur. I re-installed all apps in Creative Cloud but nothing works. As I searched through the help files on this website it seems that this is an old and known problem. Please Adobe?
Thank you,
Pim Schilperoort

  • Word 2007 - Save as Pdf gives error - This file is in use by another application or user

    I have MS Office 2007 Small Business.
    For months I have been using the "Save as PDF/XPS" option to save my word documents as PDF files.
    All of a sudden, when I click on the publish button within the "save as PDF dialog", I get the error:
    "This file is in use by another application or user."
    - I have tried creating a new word document and I still get this error when I try to save-as pdf.
    - I have tried opening a document that previously was able to be saved-as-a-pdf, and it no longer works either.
    - I have tried saving from other office applications (excel, powerpoint) that also get errors now.
    I have not personally installed any new software that I recall between when this worked and stopped working for me.
    As far as I can tell there have been no updates explicitly for save-as-pdf in office.
    Is anyone else seeing this problem all-of-a-sudden?
    Thanks.

    I just encountered this problem while trying to save a pdf from Excel 2007.  I had recently updated to Adobe Reader 9.1.
    I received the same error message you're reporting here when I went to Word 2007 and tried to save a pdf file from it as well.
    I uninstalled Adobe Reader 9.1.
    Reinstalled the Office 2007 pdf plug-in
    Successfully created pdf files from word and from Excel (which is what I needed to do in the first place).
    I then reinstalled Adobe Reader 9.1 so I could read the PDF files I had just created in Excel and word.
    I then tried to create pdf files from word and excel.  Error messages are back and I'm unable to create pdf's from word or excel.
    So.. why does Office 2007 pdf plugin not work when Adobe Reader 9.1 is installed?
    Frankly I'm getting tired of uninstalling Adobe Reader 9.1 every time I need to create a pdf file in Word or Excel.

  • Safari Mail/Save as PDF reporting "Error while printing"

    It's only just started doing this today, after I installed the updates that came with Mavericks.
    I have been using this feature for 5 years to email receipts to clients... Please tell me that this isn't an ongoing problem!
    I hit command-P to print, then select PDF > Mail PDF. Worked absolutely fine before. Don't know what has happened to cause it to behave differently.
    Thank you!

    I could print/save as .pdf until I did my latest software upgrade. Now I get "error while printing", and have been unable to find a solution. this is quite a problem for me, because I do a lot of research on the Web and have saved my results for years in pdf. Have you found a solution?

  • Photoshop Save As PDF Settings Text loses 100% Black or Color Density is too High

    I am taking a CMYK Photoshop file and saving it as a PDF for a magazine.
    By request, the company has asked that the color density does not exceed 260%.  In the output setings of the Save Adobe PDF dialog box, under color, I have:
    Color Conversion:  Convert to Destination
    Destination: U.S. Web Uncoated v2 (told to me by the magazine to use)
    Profile Inclusion Policy:  Include Destination Profile
    When I create the PDF, SUCCESS!!! it works where the color density is under 260%.
    I verified in Acrobat Pro X by going to View / Tools / Print Production / Output Preview with the following settings:
    Simulation Profile:  U.S. Web Uncoated v2
    Sample Size:  3x3
    Total Area Coverage checked and set to 260%
    HOWEVER, when I do this, the text goes from CMYK 0 0 0 100 to using all four colors.  I have been recommended by the company to keep pure back on the text due to possible registration errors.
    If I export out to PDF using the "PDF/X-1a" (inside photoshop pdf export), then I can get the text to keep 0 0 0 100 but the color density goes way over 260%.
    Has anyone had this problem?   I cannot get the color density to stay under 260% AND keep the text to 100% black.
    Any help is always greatly appreciated.

    Thank you Mylenium for your reply.  What you have said makes sense but I am not sure how to implement it.  I did a google search on Photoshop Multichannel mode and I did really find anything helpful or relevant.
    I tried playing with the multichannel just the same.  I made a copy of my photoshop document first (just in case I screwed up my file) and I converted it to multichannel mode from the current CMYK.  (Image / Mode / Multichannel)  Under "Channels" I looked at each layer (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and Black) individually and the text and other black areas in question were only on the black channel as it should be.  Now that I am in multichannel mode, I cannot "Save As" a Photoshop PDF file so I had to do a Print to PDF option.  I used the same export setting (or as close that I could tell) that I was using before and I still ended up with the same problem.  My color density is under 260% but my black text is using 4 channels.
    I also noticed that when I converted to Multichannel mode, the color of the image did change / shift a bit which also has me a bit worried.
    Can you describe how I am to implement Multichannel mode to get my desired output?  Also, can you elaborate on "custom channel for text blacks"?
    I appreciate the help, thank you!

  • Photoshop Script - save as PDF, how to programmatically use "Use proof setup" option

    Hello,
    I'm trying to create a jsx script for Photoshop CC that will automaitically convert the given file to PDF format. The requirement is that the PDF must be saved using two options available on "Save as" dialog:
    - Use proof Setup: Working CMYK
    - ICC Profile: U. S. Web Coated (SWOP) v2
    (screenshot: http://screencast.com/t/hnnVejK5)
    I couldn't find any examples on the Internet. I experimented a bit and created the following script, it saves the pdf, but it does not seem to use the mentioned options.
    app.displayDialogs = DialogModes.NO
    var fileRef = File("C:\\test\\7000_tif_colors.tif")
    var docRef = app.open(fileRef)
    var fileName = "C:\\test\\7000_tif_colors.pdf"
    pdfFile = new File(fileName)
    pdfSaveOptions = new PDFSaveOptions()
    pdfSaveOptions.PDFCompatibility = PDFCompatibility.PDF14
    pdfSaveOptions.downSample = PDFResample.NONE
    pdfSaveOptions.colorConversion = true
    pdfSaveOptions.profileInclusionPolicy = true
    pdfSaveOptions.embedColorProfile = true
    pdfSaveOptions.destinationProfile = "U.S. Web Coated (SWOP) v2"
    pdfSaveOptions.preserveEditing = false
    pdfSaveOptions.layers = false
    pdfSaveOptions.outputConditionID = "Working CMYK"
    docRef.saveAs (pdfFile, pdfSaveOptions, true, Extension.LOWERCASE)
    docRef.close (SaveOptions.DONOTSAVECHANGES)
    Thank you in advance for any help.

  • Is there a way to save a table in Photoshop (that was created in InDesign) without fuzzy text?

    I am trying to save a table in Photoshop that was created in InDesign for web use. When I save it as a png (can't save as pdf or jpeg due to limitations with our company's website), the text appears fuzzy (pixelated?). Is this because the table is getting flattened/rasterized?
    Is there a different adobe product that can be used to avoid this happening? The company who has built our website has a style editor that has limited capabilities. We have tried using the website's editor to create the tables; however, the editor lacks the flexibilty and user-friendliness that comes with InDesign. That is why we opted to create the tables in Indesign.
    In order to upload the table into the editor, the file must be saved as a png, so that is why we are creating in InDesign and then saving the table in Photoshop.
    Any ideas?
    Thank you for the help!
    Tracy

    Thanks for your help!
    Just to clarify, are you suggesting going through the export process while in Indesign? I did that and saved the table as an EPS file, then proceeded to open it, trim, and save as png in Photoshop. I noticed it lost it's white background when I reopened it in Photoshop; the table appeared with a transparent background (which isn't a big deal). When I uploaded the png in the website it doesn't appear to be as blurry, so that did help.
    Thank you for the suggestion!

  • PS Elements 8 - "Save As" PDF File Sizes Huge

    In Photoshop Elements 8.0, Photoshop PDF file sizes are huge when using the "save as" function, using JPEG compression.
    No matter which "Image Quality" is used, the resultant PDF is huge. At "high" quality the file is 20 MB. At "medium" quality, the file is 15 MB. At "low" quality, the file is also 15 MB, much too large. This was not a problem in older versions of Elements. File sizes were typically just more than 3 MB.
    If I save the image as JPEG files using "maximum" (10) quality, "medium" (5) quality, and "low" (3) quality, I can insert the image(s) into Word and use the Acrobat Pro PDF printer driver to get PDF file sizes of 1.8 MB, 1.3 MB, and 1.1 MB. These PDF files are perfect. Even the lowest quality is perfectly readable for my purposes. The older versions of Elements worked fine so I didn't need to take the step of saving in JPEG format, importing to Word and then printing.
    Does anyone know if Photoshop Elements Version 8 is capable of saving PDF files in the smaller file sizes?  Is there a plug-in I can purchase that would give better results?
    Photoshop Elements Version 8.0 (20090905.r.605812) with all updates applied.
    OS = Windows 7 Enterprise (6.1, Build 7600).
    Thank you for any help or adevice.

    I'm dealing with the same situation.
    With Photoshop Elements I use to scan a picture at 300 dpi, save as PDF file, jpg compression medium low
    quality and alway got files under 5 Mb, even lower than that. Colour or black and white pictures.
    Now with Photoshop Elements 8.0 did the usual procedure but the pdf are huge, larger than 8 Mb, even more
    than 10 Mb !
    Am I missing any detail in settings program, perhaps ?
    Thanks for any suggestions.

  • Use Artboards disabled when trying to save as PDF in Illustrator CS4

    Hi, I'm relatively knew to Illustrator coming from Photoshop and I've been struggling with this problem for days now. I've searched everywhere but can't seem the find the answer.
    I'm trying to save my document to send to a client as a mock-up. When I try to save as PDF the tick box for "Use Artboards" is disabled, so when I save it saves the whole canvas instead of only what is on the artboard. When I try to export  I can tick the tick box but the document still saves the whole canvas with everything that is "hanging off" the artboard too.  The artboard is the exact size of the document.
    Any help would be much appreciated.
    Many Thanks V

    When saving as pdf "Use Artboards" is always on and dimmed so you cannot turn it off but it is valid only if you have more than one artboard and this will give you the range option to type which artboards will be saved as different pages in the pdf.  This has nothing to do with saving things off the artboard (clip to artboard). If you save as pdf with Preserve Illustrator Editing Capability checked, everything will be saved anyway and noting will be clipped or trimmed if you open the pdf file in Illustrator. If you save with this option off, depending on the version the content outside the artboard will be hidden by using a clipping mask. However, in both cases opening the file in Acrobat will not display content outside the artboards.
    edit: you can use "Clip to Artboard" option if you save to a raster image by choosing Save for Web and devices.

  • Save as PDF stopped working since updating

    I am using Photoshop/Lightroom Photography CC, Office 2010 on Windows 7 Home (64bit).
    Since updating to the latest version of Photoshop in the last week or so, saving as a PDF file seems to have stopped working in Word & Excel.
    Could there be a link?
    I'm pretty sure I haven't made any other changes, or Windows updates.
    The response from Excel is "Document not saved" and from Word it's "The export failed due to an unexpected error." No other indication of what the problem might be and nothing in the Event Logs.
    I have tried repairing Office but that hasn't helped.
    Why do these niggles always bite you just when things are at their most stressful!! :-)
    Thanks,
    Roy

    OK - I did a Restore to a point the day before the Photoshop  updates were released. The Restore point told me that only Photoshop and Lightroom would be affected. After the Restore Lightroom was indeed at the earlier version but strangely, Photoshop wasn't.
    However - the "Save to PDF" in Word & Excel were now working.
    I Uninstalled Photoshop, and then reinstalled it and the latest version of Lightroom.
    "Save to PDF" continued to work.
    There are no Windows updates needed - that's all up to date.
    So I have no idea what was causing the problem but at least it's now working and I can get on with things! Something corrupted I guess. But at least it doesn't look like the Photoshop/Lightroom upgrade was anything to do with it!

  • Fonts not embedding when "save as" pdf

    Version: Photoshop CS4 64 bit on Windows Vista 64.
    Issue: fonts not getting embedded during conversion to pdf.
    I am attempting to save files for commercial printing in Photoshop pdf format (file-save as-pdf). In the past, using previous versions of Photoshop, the fonts have always been embedded in the pdf document when I choose the "Press Quality" pdf preset. However, now, even when I simplify my Photoshop source file down to the most basic level (one non-background layer with one line of type using a font I KNOW has successfully embedded before) the resulting pdf reports NO embedded fonts (no fonts at all, actually) and when sized up a great deal in Acrobat Pro shows pixelation as though the type was converted to a graphic. If I open the resulting pdf file in Photoshop the text is still editable though...
    I have Photoshop files that were built using a previous version of Photoshop (CS2). When I open these in Photoshop CS4 and save as pdf the fonts are embedded just as they always were so the problem lies not with the CS4 version of Photoshop itself but rather with NEW files created by it. It seems that any NEW files I create using Photoshop CS4 wil not embed their fonts when saved as pdfs.
    Help !!?!! (example file attached)

    Good points. To test that out I tried substituting different non-commercial fonts (Arial, Tahoma, Times, etc.) and then saving as a pdf. No matter what fonts I try they don't get embedded. So that would seem to rule out the idea that Photoshop CS4 is now restricting the embedding of fonts to non-commercial ones.
    I have poured through the save-as-pdf options in GREAT detail - have tried many various options and don't see any settings that have either made a difference or seem relevant. According to Adobe documentation anytime you select "Press Quality" as the preset the fonts should automatically be embedded.
    The really odd thing is, if I take a psd file that was originally created using a previous version of Photoshop, delete all the layers and then create one single line type layer so that it is identical in every way to my CS4 test file, any font I select gets embedded when I convert that file to pdf - same exact pdf preset - all file settings the same - everything! - except that it was originally created using a previous Photoshop version.
    Does that make ANY sense??

  • Unable to print or save a pdf

    I have Adobe X and my operating system is Windows XP.  I just last week started not being able to print or save a pdf file.  I get this message and then the program closes: "Adobe Reader has encountered a problem and needs to close.  We are sorry for the inconvenience."  All pdf documents from any source.  What gives?
    Thanks

    As far as Photoshop is concerned, that's all you need is the "Photoshop PDF" option.
    As far as Word it may not be that until Acrobat 6 Pro that you were able to save PDF's from a button on the toolbar of Word.  Same for other MS Office applications.  But it also may be that if you're not running Acrobat Pro, and Acrobat Pro 6 or later at that, you might not be able to print from the print dialog box, unless you're saying you were able to do it in the past with your current setup.

  • Save in Pdf reduce file size

    Hey Guys,
    I'd need some help as i'm totally confused.
    My problem: I create a new document in Photoshop with 1200x600px 300dpi dimensions. After editing I want to save in PDF format with the same dimensions. But. The final PDF file is totally small around 288x129. I tried every single options to change in the save dialogue without any success. If i open the document with 72dpi then the final image size will be perfect. But i need 300dpi.
    Any idea?
    Thanks

    First of all thx for your time. So i went back to basics to check this out. I create a blank document with these settings:
    For simplicity i just save this blank white page as pdf with the following settings:
    And after that i get a 288x144 px pdf file. The image dimensions look like this in ps:

    How do I save a PDF ready for print. I have a problem with the fonts. The fonts are blurry after printing. There is a trick in saving PDF.

    Hi el_giclee,
    Important to note from the beginning is that when you create your Photoshop document make sure you chose 300 Pixels/inch as your resolution.
    I'm interested in seeing your Save Adobe PDF dialog box after you choose to save the PDF.
    Could you post a screenshot of this dialog box with the Compression menu selected on the left side?
    It's a good idea to select High Quality Print or Press Quality in the Adobe PDF Preset menu at the top of this box. It will automatically select the best default settings for a printed piece.

  • Save Illustrator PDF for unknown usage

    Does anyone have any thoughts/recommendations for how to best save an Illustrator file as a PDF when the end use of the PDF is unknown?
    Here's the context:
    I'm designing a logo in for a client who is not currently working with any specific printer and will simply be holding onto the artwork until he's ready to use it. Since this prevents me from creating a lot of files with end-use in mind, I'm trying to give him a variety of files for high-quality printing so that he's not limited by a single format further down the road. I've created AI files and EPS files for offset printing, and I would like to provide PDFs as well. However, I can't create a PDF to match the specifications of a specific printer (since there isn't one). Are there optimal settings for a PDF so that it can be modified to suit a variety of outputs at a later date?
    Are there any other file formats you'd recommend in this situation?
    I'm working in Illustrator CS4, in U.S Web Coated SWOP v.2, and I have access to Photoshop CS5 and Reader X. The Illustrator artwork contains only 3 colours (I have 2 versions- one in process colour and one in Pantone), and the colour areas are broad and flat. I have no transparency or gradients, and all fonts have been converted to outlines.
    Any advice would be greatly appreciated! I'm an amateur trying to learn more about workflow/prepress, so I'd love to hear your thoughts!

    Save you file as AI with PDF compatibility. This will save the file with 2 forks, one is the AI part, which keeps the ability alive to work in Illustrator without loss and a PDF which includes everything what you need for print.
    You can also save as PDF with Illustrator's editing capabilities, it's the same as previous only with the extension PDF.
    Don't use a PDF/X-1a or X3. Don't use any PDF1.3 or older, these PDFs are flattening transparency.
    Don't create a PDF via printing, only via Saving as…
    Don't use EPS anymore because it will also reduce transparency.
    If you will later remove the ability to edit the file, save as PDF/X-4.
