Photoshop CC 2014 - Liquify lags/stutters with pen

Since installing Photoshop CC Version 2014  yesterday the liquify tool is behaving strangely for me. Moving the Brush Cursor seems laggy/stuttering (hard to describe).. it works 'ok' with a mouse but once i started using the pen it's really laggy.
If you smudge in one direction the smudge appears with a short delay, after that - if you still pressing the pen down - it works fluently. But if i remove the pen and press it again on my tablet surce it lags again at first... So it's very hard to use it properly.
I Tried the 'old' photoshop CC and CS6 (both downloaded from Creative Cloud and still installed) and both still work fine and fluid.
I'm using Windows 8.1. 64-bit on a Core i7-3770k, 16GB Ram, Gainward Phantom GTX770 graphics card.
Is Anyone else having this problem? or does anyone knows what's causing this?
(if it's a graphic driver problem, why is it still working on photoshop cc, it seems the code for liquify has changed for version 2014).

I do not have Windows 8 but have seen the following about Windows 8 and Photoshop CC 2014 pen support in an other tread;
Photoshop CC 2014 changes stylus use to use Microsoft system API's, with these API's you need to have Windows Ink enabled. These API's give better stroke results and improve the out of the box experience for users using Windows tablet/convertible devices. If you want to go back to the old WinTab implementation of previous versions do the following:
Create a file that contains instructions to revert to the WinTab functionality.
Create a text file in a text editor such as Notepad.
Type in the following lines:
# Use WinTab
UseSystemStylus 0
Save the file as a plain text file named PSUserConfig.txt, and save the file into the Photoshop settings folder: C:\Users\[User Name]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CC 2014\Adobe Photoshop CC 2014 Settings\.
To turn off the gestalt's functionality, delete the PSUSerConfig.txt file. Or, move it to a different folder if it doesn't contain any other commands, or change the lines so they read:
# Use Win8 native tablet support
UseSystemStylus 1

Hello.  I am running Photoshop CC 2014 on a MAC with OSX LION.  I also have Photoshop CS6 installed.  When I double-click on a file in Bridge CC, it always opens in CS6.  If I say "OPEN WITH Photoshop CC 2014", or if I drag the file directly to CC 2014 in the Dock it will open in CC.  Since I like to double-click or hit return in the bridge, I am constantly having to wait until the file opens in CS6, quit CS6 an then open it another way to get it into Photoshop CC 2014.  I tried to disable CS6 by hiding it, but then double-clicking Bridge did nothing.  Any ideas why this is happening?

Check and adjust the File Type Associations in the bridge cc preferences.

  • Photoshop CC 2014 having a problem with display driver then crashes computer

Since the Photoshop update in October most of the time when I open Photoshop CC 2014, either my computer crashes with the driver state power failure or the program is able to boot and provide an error message involving a problem with the display driver and then my computer crashes with the driver state power failure. I did not have this problem until the update in October. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You need to update your video driver from the website of the manufacturer of your video card.  You cannot rely on Windows Update or Microsoft, which typically have outdated drivers.

  • Photoshop CC 2014 for Mac Error With Display Driver

I keep receiving this error and then Photoshop crashes. Has anyone encountered this issue and if so how did you resolve it? I am using a Targus docking station and I had to download this driver: Driver Name: Video, Audio, and Ethernet Software for Mac OS X Yosemite 10.10, Mavericks 10.9, Mountain Lion 10.8/10.7 (R2.3) – January 2015
As long as this driver is installed on my mac pro, Photoshop continues to crash. If I uninstall the driver, Photoshop works fine.
    Error Message:
Photoshop CC 2014 for Mac has encountered a problem with the display driver, and has temporarity disablesd enhancements which use the graphics hardware. Check the manufacturer’s website for the latest software. Graphics hardware enhancements can be enabled in the performance panel of preferences.

  • How to add Photoshop CC 2014 to the "Open With" dialog?

    Hi!
As mentioned in my previous dialog. THe new Photoshop CC 2014 does not appear as programm in my Open With dialog, so I tried these steps:
Double click on a NEF or PSD file
Select a program from a list of installed programs
Checked again "Other programs": No Adobe Photoshop CC 2014 at all
    Click on "Browse"
    Select "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CC 2014\Photoshop.exe"
But it is NOT added to the Other Porgrams list, so I'm still not able to open it with Adobe Photoshop CC 2014
Sorry, but that is really annoying now.
Has anybody any idea how I can solve this issue?
I trust the volunteering users here more than Adobe itself. So far I've no good impression since the CC story. Before CC I was never forced to use this forum. Also I got only working solutions by other user almost never by Adobe itself. :-(
    Thanks!

I found at least a workaround in Bridge:
    Open Bridge
Edit -> Preferences -> File associations
Select the file type you need
    Click on "Photoshop"
    Select "Search"
    Select "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CC 2014\Photoshop.exe"
Repeat the steps beginning with 3. for each file type you need
But this only for Bridge itself. I'm still not able to open my file in File Explore. Also I've to do these steps for each file type manually.
But at least it's working now in Bridge, but that is only a workaround, as I changed only some file associations manually. That must not be the solution.
Any idea how to fix this issue?

  • Photoshop CC 2014 - Interface Lag, Slow to Update

    Hello,
This issue appears on both OSX 10.9.5 Mavericks on an iMac 2.9 Ghz i5, 8GB Ram, 512 vRam Graphics NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660M and on a MacBookPro Late 2013 with 2.4GHZ Quad i7, 16GB Ram, 2GB vRam Geforce (Don't have laptop in front of me for exact settings at the moment)
It doesn't occur ALL the time but very frequently. The issue is that I will be working on a file with multiple layers of all sorts, shapes and sizes, then I will SAVE that file, CLOSE it and the go to work on another file and the layers from the previous file are still showing on the Layers Panel. If I go to click on a layer, the old layers will vanish but the layer I selected would be wrong. If I go to select the next layer it will highlight the one I had previous selected, then if I click on a different layer, it would highlight the one I was just trying to select. Like there is a lag in between what is actually selected and what is highlighted.
When this happens ALL of the UI starts to lag. The Character and Paragraph boxes start to lag, for example: trying to set text size or Leading, I would go to type in my size and it won't show. I will tab out of it and it still won't show. If I click off of it and back into it it will refresh and finally be updated to what I entered.
The Tool Bar at the top, I guess is what its called? Where you have your Brush settings if you have the brush tool active, or you have some text settings visible when the text tool is active, this will also be lagged. If I have the Brush tool selected, the Move Tool settings will be showing.
It's all very laggy. I can fix it by quitting Photoshop and re-starting it, but seeing how this happens almost after every file I open it's a major pain since I build like 30 a day where I work.
It's not all the time and there isn't a real rhyme or reason to it. It some times just happens after a long period of time. And it isn't directly relative to how many things I have going on outside of Photoshop. Most of the time I have Chrome running, Mac Mail, Photoshop, Illustrator, Filezilla, Distiller and Acrobat open. But the problem still persists even when Photoshop is running all on its own after a fresh reboot.
I tried uninstalling and re-installing Photoshop CC completely on both machines but it still seems to be a problem. CC didn't have this issue, just 2014.
I don't know what the issue is. Its not a MAJOR issue since quitting the Application and Restarting it fixes it but its an unneeded inconvenience.

Check your Edit - Preferences - Performance settings.
Note:  Make changes methodically, and close and reopen Photoshop after making any change, to ensure you're testing with the updated settings.
    1.  Make sure Cache Levels is set to 4 or more - I suggest 6.
    2.  In the GPU section, under [Advanced Settings...] try changing to one of the alternate Drawing Modes.
    3.  Check the web site of the manufcaturer of your video card (in your case, nvidia.com) for an updated display driver for your operating system and hardware, and download/install if one has been released.
    4.  Try resetting all Photoshop preferences to defaults by pressing and holding Control - Shift - Alt immediately upon cold-starting Photoshop.  You have to be quick to get the keys down, and if you are quick enough it will prompt to confirm deletion of your preferences, which will lead to creation of a new default set.
I don't know what you mean by "compressing cache", but it doesn't sound like anything I've ever heard that's restorative to Photoshop performance.

  • Photoshop CC bug? Click speed with Pen tool

In Photoshop CC v14.0 (Win8) if I'm creating Pen path points "too quickly" in the canvas area it begins to turn on/off the layer filter in the layer panel. Can anyone else confirm what appears to be one action controlling another totally unrelated one? Seems to be triggered when points are being added at near "double click" speed.
No other tools, so far as I can tell, manifest the same issue.

Have you tried updating CC from 14.0 the the updated version 14.2.1 use menu Help>Updates

  • Photoshop CC 2014 and Yiynova MSP19U sensitivity problems.

Photoshop CC 2014 is not working with pressure sensitivity for Yiynova MSP19U Tablet Monitor. Am I missing something? Anyone know how to resolve this? I have selected to detect pressure sensitivity in my brush tool but it does nothing. I have tried closing and restarting the program. Nothing. Help?

Thank you. Photoshop 2014 is running well on the Yiynova.
My new issue is Flash.  I went back to Flash CC (2013), and currently running Windows 8.1. Something is terribly wrong with the brush tool in Flash.  I can't get a consistent curved line, and sometimes Flash doesn't respond to my pen strokes at all.  Every time I start a line, the curve will come out as a straight line. Only incredibly slow bunch strokes prevents the straight line from happening, which isn't conducive to fluid drawing,  Whether or not I change the automatic smoothing or turn off the pressure sensitivity, the problem remains.
I used to run Flash CC (2013) on a mac, and I had none of these issues.  Is this a Windows problem, driver problem, or do I need to re-install the software again?  I'm hoping there will be a simple solution for this.

  • Photoshop CC 2014 crashes in OSX 10.9.4

I am using a MacBook Pro mid 2010 with OSX 10.9.4 and Photoshop CC 2014 crashes on opening with a message "Could not initialise Photoshop because of a program error."
I also have the previous version Photoshop CC and it runs fine.  Anyone experiencing the same?
    Thanks, Chris

"Could not initialize Photoshop because of a program error" is a generic error and means something unanticipated.

  • Photoshop CC 2014, MAC OSX, I have no option to close a modified file without saving it - i.e. no "don't save".

    Hi there.
I have an odd issue where when I open a file and make changes to it, I can't close the file by clicking the 'x' button, can't select "file close", can't "command W" or even quit or force quit photoshop until I have saved the file. It's very frustrating as I have had to make a "PSD TRASH" folder on my desktop specifically for saving random working files, which I clear out at the end of the day.
Has anyone else had this issue? I have compared my preferences to colleagues without this issue and they are set the same. I have also re-installed Photoshop CC 2014 on my machine with no success.
    Any advice would be appreciated!
    Cheers

What happens when you select File > Close exactly?
Please read these and proceed accordingly (restoring Preferences after making sure all customized presets like Actions, Patterns, Brushes etc. have been saved might be of special interest):

Me: It's an AMD HD 6700 display
Adobe: It seems there is an issue with your Graphic Card Drivers.
    Me: Well, yes

    Me: Error not happening
Adobe: Are you able to launch Photoshop CC 2014?
    Me: Yes
Adobe: It means, issue is with Graphic Card drivers.
    Me: Yes, I knew that
Adobe: I suggest you to contact Graphic Card drivers and check if you can re-install the drivers and use Photoshop CC 2014 with the Graphic Card
Me: SO... PS CC 2014 is incompatible with the AMD drivers?
Me: I've installed 4 versions already. I'm running the latest beta now
Adobe: Could you please provide me with Full name of the Graphic Card?
Me: AFAIK, PS CC2014 is the only program that causes this error
    Me: AMD Radeon HD 6700
Adobe: Dan, issue is due to the Drivers, which are not compatible with Photoshop CC 2014.
Adobe: You may be able to use other products, however if drivers is not compatible with Photoshop CC 2014, you will not be able to use them with Photoshop CC 2014
Me: I think that you have that backwards. PS CC2014 is not compatible with the drivers. It is the only known program to have this problem. Well documented.
Adobe: Please contact Graphic Card provider and check for the drivers or re-install drivers and check.
Me: I did, and they blame Adobe
    Adobe: Okay
Adobe: Photoshop CC 2014 is not compatible with the drivers you have for the Graphic Card, there might be issue with drivers.
Adobe: We have checked with the error logs as well., it show  Fault Module Name: atiocl64.dll
Me: Again, PS CC 2014 is the only known program to clash with atiocl64.dll
Adobe: I can suggest you to check if you can use the product from new Account and use the product or check with Graphic Card provider for the drivers or a proper installation for Graphic Drivers.
Me: Again, I've done all of that
Me: They blame Adobe, and frankly, they are correct. The problem only happens with your product
Adobe: Please use different Graphic Card on your computer and check if you can use it with Photoshop CC 2014.
Adobe: You can follow below link to know more about supported Graphic Cards.
    Adobe: http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/photoshop-cs6-gpu-faq1.html
Me: Can we elevate this to the next level, please?
Adobe: We have disabled Graphic Card drivers to check if you can launch the product and you were able to launch the product without using the Graphic Drivers.
    Me: Yes.
Me: So PS CC 2014 will not work with this card?
Adobe: Issue is with Graphic Card drivers, we can use Product with graphic Card
Me: So PS CC 2014 will not work with this card?
Adobe: Photoshop CC 2014 is compatible with AMD/ATI Radeon, 6000 series.
Adobe: However you have issue with Graphic card drivers.
Me: No, Adobe has an issue. And I have an issue with Adobe.

Adobe: Please navigate to C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CC 2014
Adobe: Locate sniffer folder and rename it ~sniffer.
Adobe: *Locate sniffer file and rename it ~sniffer.
Adobe: Before that, please re-enable your Graphic Drivers as well.
Adobe: Once you done that, let me know.
Me: No such folder. sniffer.exe is present, however
Adobe: *Locate sniffer file and rename it ~sniffer.
Adobe: Please rename  sniffer.exe to  ~sniffer.exe
    Me: Done
Adobe: Just to confirm, if you have re-enabled your Graphic Drivers?
    Me: Yes
Adobe: Now please re-launch Photoshop CC 2014 and check if you can launch it or same error.
Me: No error. Program loads and runs.
Adobe: Please close and re-run the product and check,
    Adobe: * I mean, close and re-launch
Me: No error. Program loads and runs.
    Adobe: Okay
Adobe: Sniffer file is related to Graphic Processor from Photoshop CC 2014.
Adobe: You can keep it renamed and use the product.
Me: What does sniffer.exe do and can I run PS CC 2014 without it?
Adobe: You will be able to use the product without any issue.
Me: I'm sorry that I had to push you for a solution
Adobe: However I will suggest you to re-check with Graphic Provider and see if they have any drivers which you can use with Photoshop CC 2014, since issue is related to the Graphic Processor.
Me: As of yesterday, they did not
Adobe: I am sorry for the Inconvenience.
Adobe: Is there anything else I can help you with?
Me: No, thank you. Hopefully, the problem is resolved.

Adobe: Thank you for contacting Adobe. Good Bye.

    BINGO !!!!
Thanks so much Woodsroad. I had the exact same problem with my Dell Windows 7 64 bit with AMD Radeon 6700 Video card.
All the video tests passed with flying colors.
The sniffer rename trick fixed the problem.

  • Photoshop CC 2014 intermittent performance behavior- "herky jerky"

    Hi-
PC is an HP Pavilion dv7, with i7 processor, 16 GB of RAM (max for the machine), c-drive has 600 GB free, external USB3 drive (f) has 900 GB free.  Windows 7, sp1 with all latest patches.
Photoshop CC 2014 is installed along with Lightroom 5.4.  Photos are stored on F-drive.  LR/PS runs off of C, of course, with all cache files located there.
All apps on the machine seem to run ok.  My normal workflow with LR/PS is to do as much in LR as I can, but more detailed edits on a photo require PS- so I do a CTRL-E.  PS pops open and I start to work on the file.  Everything is good for awhile.
Then suddenly, PS seems to freeze.  If I continue working, it does not respond for 1-10 seconds, then all of a sudden, everything I did in those 10 seconds happens all at once.  So my movements seem to be "cached" and then they happen in quick succession.  Even something as simple as renaming a layer- I can type the name and I see nothing on screen, then bang- the new name appears.  Then it will work fine again.  A minute or so later, I'll get a "herky jerky" response again- the mouse will even seem to jump across the screen rather than move smoothly.
It's weird.  No other apps on the machine exhibit this problem.
I've turned anti-virus and anti-malware protection on and off.  I've played with the Photoshop performance settings over and over- same problem occurs.
My files are generally from a Nikon D800 camera- 36 Mpixel images with Lightroom adjustments.  I've had the camera for a couple of years and never had this problem with images before, and my workflow has not changed.
If someone has answer- great.  But I'll be happy with a direction to start troubleshooting this.  It's driving me nuts.  My workflow slows to a crawl at times and I have a lot of photos that need editing!
    Any help appreciated.

Interesting you should say that... I forgot to mention that I updated the graphics drivers last week which improved the heat situation- the graphics card in the laptop was cooking.  That has gotten much better with the new driver.
But last night I did move the Photoshop scratch disk config around.  I changed it from the internal C-drive to the external F-drive and things got noticeably better.  I'm not sure if that is theoretically good (I always imagined the internal drive to be much faster than the external USB3 drive) but it may be a case that the internal drive is just being asked to do too much along with Windows typical demands.
Maybe another internal disk for the laptop?  Or would that just add to the mess.  I'll keep an eye on it with task manager.  Can you recommend a decent third-party app to monitor resources?

    Hello,
I'm running Lr 5.6 and just updated to Ps 2014.2.1 on a Mac and now when I click edit in Adobe Photoshop CC 2014 Ps opens but with and empty window.  I see on the internet that many other people had this issue when they went to Ps CC 2014 and Adobe says to update to Ps 2014.1 to fix it but I'm past that and having the same problem.  I tried uninstalling and reinstalling Ps but no change.  Lr in creative cloud says uninstall unavailable.... This script that Rikk Flohr posted worked for me. You must complete both solutions 1 & 2 which means you have to reload Photoshop CC 15
