Photoshop CC 2014 unusable due to the brushes/eraser tools freezing on a 64 bit Windows 7 PC!

Help I can't work
I'm using PS CC 2014 on a 64 bit Windows 7 PC. Photoshop is unusable due to the brushes/eraser tools freezing.
Anyone else have this issue or know how to fix it, or how to revert to Photoshop CC using a Creative Cloud subscription?
If this helps, all other cc 2014 programs are running perfectly - as was the previous version of Photoshop.

When exactly does your brushes/eraser tools freeze?
Do you use any Wacom or other brand tablet? If so, have you checked for an updated driver? Disconnect Wacom and use a mouse instead and check.
Disconnect all the external devices and then retry.
Install all the PS updates. Help > Updates
Try resetting the PS CC preferences and check if it's an issue with corrupt preferences : http://forums.adobe.com/thread/375776
Try to open PS CC 2014 in Plugin Disabled mode and check the same. For that Press Shift+PS CC 2014 icon and hit Yes.
Restart your machine and retry.

I get the same error when trying the same thing with the default styles, so it's not the file.

So, if you click on one on of the layer style sets already on the list, such as Text Effects 2, you get the same message?
Which version of mac os x are you using?
Did you upgrade your mac os with photoshop cc 2014 already installed?
Do you have the lastest version of photoshop cc 2014, which should be 2014.2.1
(listed at the top of Help>System Info from within photoshop)
Do you see the same layer styles as shown above on your list?
Have you moved/copied any plugins from an earlier version of photoshop to the photoshop cc 2014 plugins folder?
The layer styles shown on the list above are the styles that ship with cc 2014 and should be in
/Applications/Adobe Photoshop CC 2014/Presets/Styles
(the mac applications folder where all the other mac applications are installed)
You might try resetting the preferences, but you might need to uninstall photoshop cc 2014 and then reinstall.
(don't drag the cc 2014 to the trash, but use the Uninstall Adobe Photoshop CC 2014 in the photoshop cc 2014 application folder)
To reset the preferences
Press and hold down the Shift+Command+Option keys while starting photoshop cc 2014
Keep holding the keys down until you get a dialog asking if you want to delete the adobe photoshop settings file
Press Yes

This is a user to user Forum, so you are not really addressing Adobe here, even though some Adobe employees thankfully have been dropping by.

Concluding something does not work because you fail at using it is not necessarily always justified.
The Quick Selection Tool certainly has limitations, but your post seems to be more about venting than trouble-shooting – otherwise you might have posted an image where you failed to get an expected result.

Photoshop CC 2014, A problem caused the program to stop working

When opening Photoshop CC 2014, I get "A problem caused the program to stop working correctly". Works fine on my home computer but the new one in the office has the error message. I have the latest cloud version of the program. I've updated the AMD/ATI display driver- first from the HP site supporting the Win 7 Pro laptop I'm working on(driver ver.13.2) and then from the AMD site (ver.14.1) I've installed all windows updates. Still get the same message followed by Photoshop closing itself out.

I think once Windows notified me of a solution (which was to update my video card driver). Most of the time you don't get a direct response, but submitting the report does give the engineers something to work with in order to try to find out what is causing the problem.
Anyway, there are about a million different things that can cause any application to return this generic error message. While you've already covered a couple of the possible solutions, there is still a ton of stuff to try. Since Photoshop is working on one computer but not the other, and knowing that Photoshop is exactly the same between both computers (assuming you are using the same version), then the question really becomes "what is different between the two computers?" Basically, shy of knowing that, we have a ton of general troubleshooting steps to give a shot at:

Performance problems with Photoshop CC 2014 in combination with the imac retina 5k

Hello,
I've been using the new imac retina, and i have enormous problems with the performance of Photoshop. If i for example use the selective color correction, this does not run smoothly. Other functions also work delayed. I noticed if i do not use Photoshop in full screen mode, everything goes back to normal. A friend used the predecessor model imac without 5k resolution, but has no problems. I suspect Photoshop has problems with the resolution of 5k.
Anyone here who has the same problem?

4GHz Intel Core i7
24 GB RAM
AMD Radeon R9 2048MB
Photoshop CC 2014.2.2

I hope Adobe fixed this problems with the next updates! With this terrible performance i cannot work. I actually just bought the new iMac Retina, because my old model was too slow... and now the Photoshop Performance is slower than on my old iMac. I have read that other users who have also a 5k iMac, report on same problems. So i hope that a update or a solution for this problems come very quickly!

Linked files broken in Photoshop CC 2014 when working in the cloud across multiple computers (PC and Mac)

I'm using the new linked file option in Photoshop CC 2014, which is great. I'm working with my files in the cloud, however because I'm working on both a PC and Mac it breaks them links every time I save the file. Is there a way around this?

Hi, yes I'm having the same issue. The problem is that Adobe is not correctly connecting the linked files. They are using absolute paths user/folder/folder this is just crazy and I hope they fix this.
Changing this will fix our issue.
I'm a professional web designer and I find the use of linked items really good. My workflow consists of creating a UI folder with different elements linked into photoshop documents saved in another folder.
UI - elements
Front page folder
Second page folder
etc.
Moving these folders is impossible. Making my life really hard.
Moving them to a network drive doesn't seem an option when you need to link all the files again, for each doc.
Adobe kudos on the idea now fix the paths so this is usable across computers.

Photoshop cc 2014 suddenly trouble with cloning and healing tool

I just updated photoshop cc 2014. I use a wacom tablet. Suddenly, when I use the healing brush or cloning brush. The brush control panel pops up and the tool simply doesn't work. After repeated attempts, I do succeed in getting this to work. Sure slows me down though.

Sorry for the lack of the report it was my first time reporting an error for software... Never had an issue before.
I haven't experienced the crash via text tool since I posted the question, but the Photoshop is still constantly crashing at startup, but every time I try to enter the report I get the error: Please try again later.m5

Can you add the brush selection tool to CS4?

Elements 7 has a really cool brush selection tool. I could really use it in CS4, 'cause now I have to move my file back and forth between programs.

There's two features you should look into, quick mask and quick selection. I think you'll find quick selection to be the feature you're after.

Well the screen on my Macbook has become well unusable and well the screen flickers then freezes and i cannot move the mouse unless i hold the screen i suspect something is loose in the screen which connects it to the hard drive and keyboard

i find this to be very annoying and i am suspecting i will have to take my Macie to get repaired i was just wondering is anyone else has any similar problems i find this very annoying and i am not all too sure how it has begun to happen due to the fact that i have NEVER dropped or done anything to harm my macie and well i do not understand why this is happening i mostly use my computer while sitting at a desk so i do not understand but oh well i am rambling on please if anyone has had a similar problem do share.

If your screen is flickering, you might have a hardware issue there. I would take Macie to the doctor and have her checked out.

Is it possible to fill in areas (like using the brush/bucket tool in PS) in Illustrator?

Hi all,
I am very new to Illustrator and need to fill in parts of a vector image. Is there a way to fill in the areas I want to have color, easily? I'm down for tutorials and stuff but I'm also on a deadline and NOT wanting to resort to bringing it into PS (because I do want to learn how to do this in Illustrator). I did a search and got that I could do it using the Live Paint option but I wasn't able to figure out exactly what to do. Well, I hope there is a way! The image is below. Thanks for your help!

It's assuming that you have a vector image - do you?
If this is a vector image, select all, take the live paint tool and fill the areas using swatches. There shoukd be a video in the manual (find the manual in the help menu)

I'm guessing - if you've uninstalled the previous version, then surely there's nothing left to "update", is there?
Can you undo the "uninstallation" procedure? If not, you will have to download iTunes again and install it as a new installation.

Photoshop CC 2014 not showing in the Extension Manager

Hi,
I'm having trouble installing an extension for Photoshop 2014. PS 2014 is not showing up in my extension manager, which makes it impossible to install extensions. I've tried uninstalling the extension manager a few times but to no avail.
How do I get CS 2014 to show up in the Extension Manager? I'm really missing my Guide Guide extension, I'm using Photoshop CS until this issue is fixed.
Has anyone had similar troubles?

Thanks... I grabbed it (all of them, actually) but now I'm having trouble installing them (not an Adobe problem, I don't think; they recently changed a bunch of security protocols here and I think that's what's preventing me from running the updater).
I am curious, though: if there was an update to the Extension Manager (and there were FIVE of them) why does my Creative Cloud app tell me that I'm up to date????

Photoshop CC 2014: how to dock the floating Options bar?

Anyone know how to dock the Options bar in PS CC 2014? When I open it for the first time, it floats. I tried looking this up online and can't find a solution. I figure it can't be rocket science.

Ok, let's go for a Preferences Reset.
Windows - CTRL-SHIFT-ALT immediately after you double-click the PS icon.
Macintosh - CMD-SHIFT-OPTION immediately after you double-click the PS icon.
Wait for the "Delete Photoshop Settings" dialog, release the keys and click "Yes"

Is there anything inside Photoshop CC 2014 that functions like the old Mini Bridge?

In previous versions you had the option "open in mini bridge" i understand it has been removed for 2014 but is there anything similar in function?

Not that I know of, but you can run the full version in the background (since it was needed with mini bridge anyway) And use your modifier keys to switch between the two programs. (In windows it is alt-tab) In windows you can also tile the two programs by right clicking on the task bar. Also you can make the bridge window small enough so you can see photoshop while bridge is the active app then you can drag and drop files to photoshop.
Or you can keep both programs full screen and drag the file in bridge to the taskbar over the photoshop icon so that photoshop pops up the drag back up to photoshop and let go. Sounds like a bit of work but is very easy to do and remember to keep that mouse button held down until you have the cursor over the document area of photoshop.
It may not be as pretty or neat but will work.(for now)

I migrated the settings. I'm assuming I can just uninstall now...

I suggest waiting a while, and using the new version. That way you can ensure everything you need is set up and working before closing off your ability to run the older one.
I have heard rumors that uninstalling the older version might actually do bad things to the LightRoom to Photoshop interface, which some folks have said is fixed by then uninstalling and reinstalling the latest version of Photoshop.
Unless you need the disk space there's really nothing terribly wrong with leaving the old version there from now on.
