Photoshop CC 64 Bit: Camera Raw fehlt

Guten Abend,

  • I installed photoshop cc 2014, but Camera Raw remains on Version 8.0. Update to 8.5 does not work.

I installed photoshop cc 2014, but Camera Raw remains on Version 8.0. Update to 8.5 does not work.

    Solved in this way:
    Close Photoshop first, then:
Download the 8.5 manual update link from here:  Don't run the installer, but instead just Open the zip file in Windows Explorer.
    http://swupdl.adobe.com/updates/oobe/aam20/win/PhotoshopCameraRaw8-8.0/8.5.50/setup.zip
Navigate inside the zip file to find the resources inside that correspond to the 64 or 32 bit Photoshop version that you're running.  I assume you have installed the 64 bit version, so the rest of the instructions will concentrate on the 64 bit Camera Raw.8bi only.  Here's the path:
    setup.zip \ payloads \ AdobeCameraRaw8.0All-x64-050614143245 \ Assets1_1.zip
The file within Assets1_1.zip, named 1002, is actually the Camera Raw.8bi file for 64 bits, just with a different name.
Copy 1002 to your folder on your computer where your Camera Raw.8bi normally lives, e.g.,
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\CC\File Formats
Rename the old Camera Raw.8bi file to Camera Raw.8bi_8.0.  It's important that the extension is changed to something other than .8bi.
    Rename 1002 to Camera Raw.8bi
Run Photoshop and verify the Camera Raw version by choosing Help - About Plug-in... - Camera Raw.
    Thank you so much!

When I selected "Save Image" there is an option to select the size of the JPEG preview. Is there anyway to extract the JPEG and does the JPEG contain the adjustments that were made to the Raw image?
The "Save image" command just saves (really converts) the original raw into another raw format : the DNG format created by Adobe to get a universal raw format instead of a specific raw format for each camera in the range of each camera manufacters... Using that feature is your choice.
And what you see in the bottom line : 8 bits or 16 bits has nothing to do with a preview, it is the choice of 'color depth' for the image the converters sends to the editor.
So, your choice is either :
    - to click 'Done' which saves the settings of your conversion (white balance, exposure, clarity...) to a very small 'sidecar' file of the xmp type
    - to 'Open' in the editor where you can work with all features of the editor (which include saving the output file in any format - jpeg - psd - tiff - png...

  • Can photoshop convert .jpg to camera raw file?

Can photoshop convert .jpg to camera raw file?

And even if you could, it wouldn't be worth it.  Raw files are 12-bit (or more) with much higher dymanic range than jpegs.  The result is that (in the original raw file) you have flexibility to change white balance, change tone curve, recover detail from highlights and shadows in ways you can't with 8-bit (usually lossy-compressed) data in jpegs.  But having thrown that extra information away to create a jpeg, you can't get it back.  It would technically be possible to convert that jpeg data into raw format, but you would gain nothing by doing so and end up with a file much larger than the jpeg.  In fact if this theoretical conversion went the whole way to re-create a Bayer sensor array of data, you'd be throwing away resolution.

You were probably using the Release Candidate version of camera raw 8.7, which one gets from Adobe Labs.

  • Opening a smart object (photoshop cc layer) in camera RAW?

Opening a smart object (photoshop cc layer) in camera RAW? I have opened a processed RAW file from lightroom into photoshop cc, then done various processing and created a merged layer. I've then convered this layer to smart object (it displays the smart object layer icon). When I double-click this layer thumbnail it opens up in a seperate photoshop tab and I want to go back to RAW. I've tried this on various files and I can't seem to reopen smart objects back in RAW. I have file handling preferences set to "prefer adobe camera raw for supported raw files" and have done a fair amount of 'googling' but not getting anywhere. Thanks for any help

Try the Filter menu item then select Camera Raw Filter. it should then open in ACR for further editing. No it is not the RAW image but the smart object you have.

Thanks for the reply: I'm aware I can set the colour space in the editor but my concern is that if it's exported from Camera Raw as sRGB then converted to AdobeRGB that there may be some information loss, my thinking being that getting it right early is better than later.  Am I right in thinking that converting from sRGB to ARGB will lose information, or more likely won't have the full information set in the first place because the initial export from RAW is to sRGB?
I have to say I find the subject of colour management quite mystifying ... but I gather I'm not alone in that.
    Thanks again.
Keeping in mind that a raw file has no color profile (it's not even an 'image', it's a recording of light intensity for each of the photosites laid out in a 'Bayer pattern' with Red, Green and blue filters) and that your raw file information will never be altered by any converter, you can be sure that it is always possible to re-process the raw file to aRGB without any information loss.
You are perfectly right that the resulting image (psd, tiff, jpeg...) when you save from the editor will keep its color profile and that converting sRGB to aRGB won't add any useful information; that's what I said in the other post.
When I was experimenting on that matter with other users in another forum, I was able to select previously edited raw files containing subtle tones in green/cyan and re-process them in aRGB instead of sRGB and I got better results on my 6-inks home printer.
Don't believe all images will be better in aRGB, there are not necessarily 'out of gamut' colours in all of your pictures.

  • Will photoshop elements 12 have camera raw 8.6 support?

will photoshop elements 12 have camera raw 8.6 support?

Just a note abour the 8.5 update:
This morning, opening my computer I got a warning message from 'Adobe application manager' informing me of the availability of that update. I agreed an the update started. It soon stopped with a dialog asking me to stop 'elementsautoanalyzer.exe'. I was sure it was not running in the background. After checking that, I simply clicked on the 'continue' button and the update ran normally. The new version is good in the editor and the organizer.
So, if you get that message, don't panic...

  • Any chance Photoshop itself will get Camera Raw's noise reduction and sharpening?

I would love to have the noise reduction and sharpening from ACR 6 in Photoshop itself for JPEG, TIFF, and PSD files. Yes, I know I can open those files in ACR, apply noise reduction and sharpening, and then have it then open the files to Photoshop. But it would be so nice if we could do that without having to go through Camera Raw.

    Matt Howell wrote:
Yes, I am absolutely saying that the noise reduction and sharpening of ACR 6 is vastly superior to any filters in Photoshop CS5.
For those who only work only with RAW files this is a non-issue, but I sometimes prefer to use TIFF files generated by CANON DPP software or occasionally even JPEG's straight out of Canon DSLR's. Going through ACR just for noise reduction causes unnecessary color space conversions, as well as just a needlessly complex workflow.
Perhaps you should ask Canon to make DPP noise reduction better.  I also do not think is a good idea to get too aggressive with noise reduction  and sharpening when you first bring a image into Photoshop unless you only use the image single use for a particular output device.  Your better off working with a somewhat soft image till you ready for output and then sharpen for the output devive being used.  If you use strong sharpening and NR up front sharpeing again for your output device may produce unwanted sharpening and NR artifacts...  There are several third party noise reduction and sharpening plug-ins that are better then Adobe Photoshop built in ones.  Noise reduction has to be balanced too much will loose detail masking detail is important. ACR noise reduction provides masking adjustments and works well. Third party plug-ins offer offer advanced masking features also. Photoshop noise reduction filter has a basic preserve detail slider which I presumes does some kind of masking but this is not as good at ACR masking and third paty masking.  You can of course add you own masking before using photoshop noise reduction filter. Sharpening also needs masking for sarpening will sharpen noise as well as detail.
IMO your better off with third party plug-ins that are designed to be the best. They keep getting better there is no clear winner for all images. I'm been satisfied with NeatImage and I have only had to pay for two upgrades.  I had to pay for the addition the 32 bit plugin then and  for the addition a 64 bit plugin.  All other updates to NeatImage has been free of charge even the lates version 7 of the 64 bit plugin was no charge for me.

  • Trying to update Photoshop CS6 with latest Camera Raw but no luck!!

Working on a Corporate Licensed CS6 and the "Updates" under Help is grayed out? I have a license key, I have logged on to Adobe and I am an admin. Still it's grey.
So I went on the internet and found a lot of pages telling me it is easy to download and install but still no. Adobes own site only gives me version 7.1 (Adobe - Adobe Camera Raw and DNG Converter : For Windows).
The internet gives me this link with a lot of info about 8.5 but no ******* download link http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/camera-raw.html
I suspect Adobe don't let you upgrade beyond 7.1 if you don't run CC but there is no one on Adobe that can confirm it? I also got in touch with Adobe helpdesk but after 45 min on the phone they still wouldn't adress my question, only keep on asking for phone nr, email and other things to raise a case. Also ran the Adobe Application Manager but it just returns with Update Failed.
    It's a simple question.
Has anyone running a Photoshop CS6 on a W7 machine managed to update Camera Raw beyond 7.1?

    hi apnep,
after trying myself for 3 days I finally got in touch with one person at adobes helpdesk that could actually think and did not just respond according to a sheet in front of him. He started out from the sheet telling me that it SHOULD work but when he took over my computer he soon realized something wasn't right. It took him about 45 min of trying, installing, uninstalling and finally he found it.
I don't know if it's something with the licensed version I have ( a corporate one) but in the installation there is one file here C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\AAMUpdaterInventory\1.0.
That AAM Updater Inventory prevents CS6 to update. I don't know why it's there but he simply removed it and voila !!
A 5 second job once you know it =)

  • No options in Bridge or Photoshop to open with camera raw

Photoshop CC 14 installed. I do not get an option to open in camera raw from bridge or from file/open in photoshop. I am trying to batch work on PSD documents from camera raw but cannot open them in camera raw.

That would be right.  You can't open PSD files in ACR.  How would ACR deal with layers, along with all the other features embedded in a PSD file?
