Photoshop CC classic mode is different to CS6

I am currently using a trial of CC. I want to upgrade but the main issue putting me off is the crop tool, I have to crop a lot of images and this new method makes it more difficult.
I have always used classic mode. By default in CS6 the crop bounding box is already placed on the image. However on CC the default classic mode the crop bounding box isnt placed on the image, I have to drag it each time.
Is there a way to have the box on the image by default?
The only way I can see is to turn off classic mode but then theres the issue of having to use the annoying method of moving the canvas rather than the crop box and I dont want to use that

CS6 classic crop

Can anyone from Adobe help?  I would love to try the Photoshop CC, but have had this problem each time I installed it, so I just use the Photoshop CS6.  I understand there are different features in CC and would love to try them.  Please help me solve this frustrating problem!  Thanks.

  • BUG: Channel-based blend modes in FW CS5 & CS6

I've observed problems with some of the blend modes in Fireworks CS5 and CS6. Several are definitely broken—most likely a by-product of changes introduced in CS5, which attempted to match some of Photoshop's blend mode behaviors (for Hue, Saturation, Color and Luminosity).
    http://www.adobe.com/devnet/logged_in/bbowman_fwcs5.html
The broken blend modes are the channel-based blend modes: Red, Green, and Blue. These have no counterpart in Photoshop, and yet no longer function properly.
To illustrate the problem, I've created a simple test graphic: three white squares, three black squares, three bitmaps, and three colored squares (red, green, and blue).
Now I'll add a black background to the canvas and apply a different channel-based blend mode—Red, Green, and Blue—to each object in its respective group. Here's the correct result, in Fireworks 8:
As you can see, each object appears to be the same color as its applied blend mode. A white rectangle with a Red blend mode becomes red, with a Green blend mode becomes green, and with a Blue blend mode becomes blue.
The way it works is this: The composite image adopts the selected channel of the object and combines it with the remaining channels of the canvas (or objects) below. For example, consider the white rectangle with a Red blend mode. The rectangle's Red channel (R:255) should be combined with the remaining channels of the canvas below (G:0,B:0) to create a composite with the appearance of red (R:255,G:0,B:0).
Now here's the same graphic as it appears in both Fireworks CS5 and CS6:
As you can see, there's no sense to this result. The Red blend mode produces Green, the Green blend mode produces Red, and the Blue blend mode produces invisibility. I simply cannot explain the outcome. These blend modes have been rendered useless and unintelligible in CS5 and CS6.
The reason for my concern here is that, just over a year ago, I wrote a series of command scripts based on these blend modes as they existed Fireworks 8. Without these blend modes, my scripts cannot function.
Assuming there are updates forthcoming for Fireworks CS6, I'm hoping there's a chance that this might still be fixed (if not for CS5, as well). Here's the bug report I've submitted regarding this issue:
    Product name: Fireworks
    Product Version: 11.1.0.205 (CS5.1)/12.0.0.236 (CS6)
    Product Language: English
    Your operating system: OS 10.6.8
    ******BUG******
Concise problem statement: Channel-based blend modes (Red, Green, and Blue) are broken in Fireworks CS6 and CS5.
    Steps to reproduce bug:
    1. Set canvas to black.
    2. Draw 3 white rectangles of any size.
    3. Set blend mode of 1st rectangle to Red, 2nd rectangle to Green, 3rd rectangle to Blue.
Results: 1st rectangle appears Green (instead of Red). 2nd rectangle appears Red (instead of Green). 3rd rectangle becomes invisible (instead of Blue).
Expected results: Each rectangle should appear to be the same color as its applied blend mode, as the composite adopts the selected channel of the object and combines it with the remaining channels of the canvas (or objects) below.
In the preceding example, the black canvas contains no channel information (R:0,G:0,B:0) while the white rectangles contain information in all 3 channels (R:255,G:255,B:255). When a Red blend mode is applied to a white rectangle, the object's Red channel (R:255) should be combined with the remaining channels of the canvas below (G:0,B:0) to create a composite with the appearance of red (R:255,G:0,B:0).
Most likely, this bug was introduced in CS5, which included modifications to Hue, Saturation, Color and Luminosity blend modes (to match Photoshop). For comparison, proper RGB blend mode behavior was observed in Fireworks 8.
For more information about this bug, please see the following post: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1209542

I haven't noticed changes in the way the blend modes work.
It's possible you have a specific problem on your system, or you have an image with a color space that uses a different gamma than you're used to working in.  In the latter case, the math could be the same but if the representation of the colors is changed (which is what the color profile defines) you could get a radically different looking result.
Maybe it would be useful to post some screen grabs, and ideally it would be great if you could post a copy of a PSD file that demonstrates the problem (i.e., looks different when opened in an older version of Photoshop than in Photoshop CS6).
EDIT:  Looks like I was too late in answering; I was distracted after typing and before posting.

  • I NEED CLASSIC MODE AND I CANT UPGRADE!! HELP!!

So i just bought a new mac mini about a week ago and I am very excited to start using my copy of adobe photoshop cs2 again, but i have a copy of adobe photoshop 6.0 and i use and upgrade to go to photoshop cs2. I just found out that i cant install photoshop 6 because mac no longer supports classic mode! so how do i get classic mode with out having to downgrade to mac OS 9? is there another way around this?? I don't want to have to buy a 600 dollar copy of photoshop just to use the copy's i already have!

You may want to learn about upgrade pricing. It is unlikely that you paid $600 to upgrade Photoshop 6 to CS2.
Beware that CS2 was written for PPC processors. You have an Intel processor and Apple hints that a coming Lion may not support PPC apps. You might want to upgrade to CS5 while you have the opportunity before you fall out of the upgrade window (when CS6 arrives). CS5 is written for Intel.

  • Can I use the old Classic mode on a new iMac?

On my old iMac G5 running OS X 10.3.9, I also had a "Classic" mode that worked with all my old apps. I just bought a newer iMac (10 months old) running OS X version 10.6.6. Can I install Classic on it too? If not, is there some other way that I can run my old Photoshop, Word etc. on my new computer?

The various free Office-like open source applications are great, however learning to use the Gimp, for anyone who is used to the way Photoshop and Mac programs work, is a challenge. And that is an understatement of the case! Instead of struggling with the Gimp, for less than 100 bucks one can buy Photoshop Elements. It will do everything the Classic version of Photoshop would do, that "regular" people would want, and then some (there are some things that professionals do, such as working with CMYK, that Elements doesn't do). Another option is Pixelmator, but I've been trying it (it was on sale in the new Mac App Store), and it just isn't as good as PS Elements, and its regular price isn't all that much cheaper.

  • Crop tool shows background color unless I switch to "Classic" mode

I'm not sold on the "latest" Photoshop being the best. I've seen more bugs now that I've subscribed to the "CC" version than ever before. Here's my latest issue..
When I activate the crop tool (I realize it's been rewritten.. not sure why), I see my current background color in place of what is visible in my current  workspace. Ultimately, completing the crop command, it crops as expected, and the background color vanishes. What benefit is this? It adds confusion and makes me a bit confused as to what the final crop result will be. Why was this changed? Why am I seeing my current background color? It makes no sense. I've been using Photoshop for nearly 20 years and this is just dumb. Can anyone explain?
    Thanks!
    - Sean

Yeah, that was pretty vague. I was in a creative mode and was rudely interrupted by this weird change, so I wasn't focused on a clear post. The lack of direct email support to Adobe frustrated me also. Alas..
Bascially, I have a layer with some image data, and transparent regions:
I select the crop tool, and select a region just inside the outside edge, containing the portion of the image I care about:
The background switched from being transparent to my current background color selection. I had this green chosen for some completely unrelated task. I can't find anywhere that this can be disabled. The settings I have are what I believe to be the defaults:
And, when I change the crop settings to "Use Classic Mode", the behavior is the more sensible (in my opinion) current background:
I hope that clears up the confusion. I can't imagine any use case where replacing the current visible background with the current background color makes sense. If it's a feature, I can't find any documentation, official or otherwise, that explains why this is happening.
Yes, I like the latest versions of software, but since I made the jump from CS4 to CC, I've hit more bugs than ever before. I've had to kill Photoshop a couple times in the past two months, whereas before, it never froze up or crashed on me. This feels like a bug, but if it's a feature, I'd love to know how to use the new crop tool's background settings properly.
    Cheers!

  • Photoshop and Lightroom Images are Different - Much lower contrast

When I export an image from either LR 3 or 4, or from Capture One, into Photoshop the images are very different.  Compared to the original image in LR/C1 the image in Photoshop has dramatically brighter shadows, and less contrast in general.
Interstingly, if I make no adjustments in PS at all, and just save the file back to LR, the file looks like the original/correct image.
It almost appears as if some sort of curves preset or other type of automated correction is being applied in PS.
I don't think this is a color management issue - the monitor is calibrated with a ColorMunki, and the colorspaces in all programs are ProPhoto RGB.
This is happening in CS5 and 6, so it is likely some sort of setting that I inadvertantly created.
I uninstalled CS5 completely, and re-installed CS6, and also did the Command/Option/Shift setting reset, but the issue remains.
    Any help is greatly appreciated!

  • Installing Classic Mode on Tiger, DVDs, emulators

I want to install classic mode on a Mac running OS 10.4 (Power PC processor). We have DVDs for three different kinds of Mac of the same generation, but none of them come with the extra tools CD/DVD that is mentioned in Apple's instructions and in other posts as containing OS 9. The install DVDs are the Swiss (German) version. Is the third DVD only in the US version?
We have 9.0 CDs for two Power Mac G4s, plus one G4 computer that's broken, and one that's alive and well, running 9.2. Is there a way I could lift the system folder from this computer, copy it onto the hard disk on the 10.4 computer, and "bless" it, or is more required than the system fold for classic mode to run under Tiger? I'm wondering whether it's possible to install an emulator like Sheepshaver, since I could start with 9.0 and upgrade that to 9.2, and then transfer the necessary files (system folder plus ...?) to use the built-in classic environment.
Any help would be much appreciated.

You don't say exactly what computers are involved which places us at a disadvantage in helping you.
If you have a copy of OS 9.1 or greater on a computer you can simply copy the whole System Folder to a PPC running Tiger and set it up to be Classic.  Put it at the root level next to OSX's "System".  If you actually want to boot to OS9, that's where knowing the details of the computers and operating systems involved is essential.
Technically, system installations can be machine specific, but I think for OS9, and especially when used as Classic, this isn't as much an issue.  Classic isn't in charge of any hardware anyway.  Some people may post saying, "Oh, it absolutely must be installed correctly," but frankly I have copied OS9.2.2 from computer to computer as I worked my way through models and had it work on any model that supports OS9, and that was for booting.
If all you have are installer versions of OS9 on optical that is where you may run into trouble and may ultimately end up needing copies of the original discs (which likely are no longer available).  You will have to get the computer to boot to the installer disc in order to get it to actually put a usuable copy of OS9 on the computer.  Again, this is where knowing the exact disc versions and exact computer specifications is important.

  • Utilizing Multiple-Processors in Classic Mode?

I have four PPC based scientific programs that will only run in classic mode. They take hours to run each, and so I am considering purchasing a Power Mac G5 Quad (2.5 GHz) to do so. Question: Can I run the 4 programs simultaneously, and can I ensure that each one runs on a different processor so that I will get the desired performance increase? (I currently run the programs on an iMac G5, OS X 10.4.11, and can run them all together if I want - but that doesn't improve performance...).
    thanks,
    Photonic

Apple made G4/500DP, 533DP, 800DP etc. And there are still cpu upgrades for pre-MDD models. The 1.42DP was the fastest made at the time, but not the only one, and not without some heat and noise issues.

And for some applications, they aren't written to, or benefit from running on multiple cores. And Classic is probably just such an application. OS 9 was not known for being efficient at giving foreground and background apps more cpu cycles.

You said that right now it takes hours to run currently on your iMac G5. Your Intel iMac running @ 3GHz might be able to run SheepShaver, but the more I looked into it, the more iffy it seemed. But that would answer the question of whether you need to look at a new $1500 Quad G5, or invest in something else. or use your new iMac.

SheepShaver - Although it took me a few days to get it up and running, in hindsight, SheepShaver was the easiest of the three to install and configure. This is due to the fact that, while it requires a ROM file like the others, this ROM file can be obtained from Apple installation CDs or update disk images available from their Web site. http://www.atpm.com/12.09/classic.shtml

  • Crop tool Classice Mode

I find the new crop tool too time consuming, and it is not very user friendly.  I like that you can turn on the classice mode, but each time I select the crop tool the classic mode has been turned off.  Would you please make it possible to turn on classic mode and leave it on.
In my opinion the crop tool worked great, just because you can change something does not always mean that it is an improvement.  I perfer to move the crop tool around on the image, not the image behind the crop tool.
Thank you for giving us the classic mode, please never take that away.

I hear you.  The setting should be sticking for you, so that's a problem - though it may be a problem on your own system.  I see all the settings stay set.  Try this:
With no document open, choose the Crop tool.
Click the gear and make the settings you want.
Choose Window - Workspace - New Workspace, and name it something you like (I call mine Noels).
    Now Quit Photoshop
Do you see your settings stick now, next time you open Photoshop?
By the way, try the new Crop Tool (without Classic Mode) but with one setting change:  Turn off the [  ] Auto Center Preview setting.  The always present outer border takes a little getting used to, but the thing will operate in a very expected manner otherwise.

  • Classic mode problem

I have been running various applications that require the Classic mode for a couple years now with no problems. Today, though, I noticed that the audio from all such applications now exhibit a slow-motion sound. I tried reloading Classic but that didn't help. Applications running under OSX are still running fine. Any idea on what the problem is?

I take it back. Here is the new report from verifying the disk:

In addition, I just discovered that the sound is in slow-motion again for Classic Applications. So I am back where I started.
There is something that I have been doing new lately that might relate to this new problem. I am trying to run a hydrodynamic model on my computer that is written in FORTRAN. I successfully compiled the modules (using gfortran) and ran the test cases. I am now trying to create my own case to run. In so doing I must create a pointer from the directory in which the program is run to the directory in which the input data is read and the output results are written (following the test case examples). At first I tried creating an alias for the directory but that didn't work. Next I tried a symbolic link using the following in Terminal:
ln -s/path to data files/ name of link
This created a folder that looked just like the alias that I tried at first, except this worked! However, it still has some different characteristics from the examples in the supplied test cases. Could I be messing things up using that link? It seems to be the new thing that I have done lately.

  • Can't run software in Classic mode

Boy, I've tried to fix this myself and just can't. I have a new out-of-the-box Mac Mini with a generic USB keyboard. I've got some old Mac software (really old) which is really a main reason I bought the mini. I can't get Classic to run because it's not already installed. I have the OS9.2.1 disc, but I can't boot from the CD (I tried pressing C on bootup -- either my Mac can't boot from CD or my keyboard doesn't communicate properly). When I try to run the OS9 installer to get Classic to work, I get the hair-pulling error message that I need to run the installer in Classic
    mode.
A friend said I need the discs which came with the Mini, but I don't think there are any. Can the software which should have come with it be downloaded and burned on to a new CD in order to create a bootable CD?
    Argh!!! Please help!
    Warren

Thanks -- I did try that, just forgot to mention it. the CD isn't one of the options in startup disk. It says I can choose the hard drive or the network, and I've tried both. A friend said that Mac Minis can't boot from CD -- don't know if that's correct or not, but I can't seem to get it as an option.
I've tried to find any CD that may have come with the Mac Mini -- my friend said to look for one called "additional software and apple hardware test CD that came with the Mac Mini" but that is nowhere to be found. Either it didn't actually come with it (my hunch) or the staff in the receiving department took them out for safekeeping and hid them in a drawer somewhere and have forgotten. (Also possible.)
I can't imagine that I'm the only person in the world with this problem, but my tech support staff warned me in the first place. I wanted to try using some macs mixed in with our PC setup (because they can run this software, and because it seemed easy) and they said that they wouldn't be able to provide much support, since they're all PC people. I figured "how much support can it need? They're designed to be easy to use!" Oh well.
I'd really be keen to get any more suggestions from anyone who can help!!

  • How can you FORCE Classic mode to run on an Intel Mac? OS 9 emulation Rosetta Software Design

Hello everyone, I had a few thoughts on running Classic mode on intel macs which I wanted to share.
Now I know little about software design, but maybe someone who does could tell me if these ideas I had are at all feasible:
Now in the first place I now that, technically, "Classic" mode went out back with Tiger because of the switch to Intel chips. Switching to Intel, Rosetta was required to "translate" pre and non-intel OSX applications, with the exception of Classic since Rosetta does not translate deep enough into the system to do that. As a substitute to Classic, SheepShaver, Basilisk II, etc. can be used to emulate OS 9, but these are very lousy applications compared to Classic mode.
Is there ANY way whatsoever Rosetta could be edited, or Classic itself so that it will work on intel macs?
(that is, with the exception of 10.7+ systems since these don't even use Rosetta)
I know if Classic was placed on an intel mac, it would tell you to download Rosetta, but from there will crashes because frameworks in the system's library does not support (or was not designed for) Classic...
So what I wanted to know:
What if an old, Classic supporting PowerPC system's library folder was added to an Intel computer in a location other then that computers real system folder (as not to confuse the real, current system) and Classic manually edited so that it would search for the needed frameworks/etc files in the new location? Would it work?
Since, after all, it now has the correct "system" to run on (which before Rosetta could not convert), do you think there's any chance it would work and function properly?
Now beyond that, I wouldn't know the actual results (or consequences). I suppose the main problem to consider would be that the the PPC's system frameworks/etc wouldn't work at all on an Intel (which leads us back to Rosetta lacking in this area), and since those frameworks will be searching for other files in the system library (which would bring them to the current, Intel system) the same results would happen: crash! Or maybe sensing the system was mixed up, one or more files would try to "fix" themselves, and in turn destroy the computer's real system.
So, would it be worth a try?
I'd love to hear any other thoughts on running Classic on Intel...

There is an "easier" way to acquire SheepShaver called Chubby Bunny and I have put together a post with some safe links that are relevant to this topic.  I see that emaculation is one of them.
Why do you need OS 9 greater than 9.04?
Feel free to let me know if you need any more help.
With the newer Intel Macs, you have to run a Classic emulator such as SheepShaver, which requires you to extract the Mac ROMs from your older Classic Mac and then install Mac OS 9.
A related program is Chubby Bunny, which comes bundled with all of that included.
