I am trying to save my photo from photoshop back to lightroom and I keep getting an error that is "could not save because disk does not exist.  Anyone know how to fix this?

  • Using Photoshop Elements 12 on my MacBook Pro laptop, when saving a file I have been working on I get the following message although there is at least 50GB free space on the hard drive:  Could not save because the disk is full.

I have been making Christmas Cards, working in layers and then flattening the image.  However, I am unable to save the final image as I get the following message:  Could not save because the disk is full.  Looking at the system report for my laptop shows there is 52GB of free space.

Well, running on a 2006 model.  I did not have a startup disc.  Initially, it booted up on original software in 2006.  Since then, I've upgraded to 10.6 via a box set.  And, since then I think I popped it up to lion.
All I have on a disc is snow leopard.  And, I can't get farther than the setup screen due to hard drive.  I'm taking to a apple authorized repair store right now.  We'll see what they tell me .  I'm just going to weigh the cost of repair vs. buying new.
Another bad, stupid thing is I had no means of backing up my stuff.  So, I might have lost things like music, vids, etc.  we'll see if they can recover.  If the cost is too much for repair I might just forget it and start over with a new system.  Just not sure at this point.

  • Issue using Photoshop together with Lightroom - "Could not save because..."

I have a really annoying issue with Lightroom and Photoshop CS3. When I use Photoshop as my external editor for Lightroom, Photoshop opens up nicely and I am able to edit. However when I go to save I get the following message "Could not save because the file is already in use or was left open". The only way I'm able to save then is to shut down Lightroom. Then I can save in Photoshop and after that I launch Lightroom again to continue working in there.
I don't know if this has anything to do with this issue, but I do have all my images on a network drive which I access exactly the same way as any external drive.

Online chat with Adobe staff member helped solve the issue.
A corrupted preferences folder was removed, a new one automatically created solved the issue.
New folder was then deleted and old folder reinstated with the original name (if that makes sense).
    Sorted.

  • Could not save because file is locked

I have Photoshop CS6 and I have never had a problem with this before -
All of a sudden I am getting an error message when saving : " Could not save…because the file is locked, you do not have necessary access permissions, or another program is using the file. Use the ‘Get Info’ command in the Finder to ensure the file is unlocked and you have permission to access the file. If the problem persists, save the document to a different file or duplicate it in the Finder."
No other program is even open… I have quit every process I could in the Activity Monitor.
I have tried saving as a different file name and format, I have changed permissions for the Staff option on all of file folders.
I have even completely restarted my computer, but literally nothing has worked.
    Help!

No anti-virus software (they cause far more problems than they solve, at least on a semi-secure network), I don't leave Bridge running. iTunes is running, so is InerTrak (time tracking software)... so it has to be Spotlight or Time Machine unless Activity Monitor will lock files. Or it could be Quicksilver, which creates indices like Spotlight.
First thing I'm doing is adding all my hard drives to "Prevent Spotlight from searching these locations" and we'll see if this comes up again.
Could it be the Finder? Does the Finder lock the file while reading the thumbnail?
I'm surprised that there's no way to tell what process has locked the file.
OK, last bit: Why doesn't Photoshop lock the file when it's open so that other programs won't open it?

  • Could not save because file was already in use or left open

I am have several problems with Adobe Photoshop CS4. I call up Adobe for help, I pay 50.00 or 60.00 for their help with these situations that I am having. Adobe concludes the phone call saying they are closing the case cause the problem has been resolved. I told them it has not been resolved I am still having problems then the person hangs up on me. I call back cause the problems still persists, the tech person told me that I had to pay another 50.00-60.00 for the
tech support. I told him that I already paid and that I still need help, the tech guy told me that the case was closed cause it was resolved. I told them it was not
resolved and I am needing help with this particular issue. The tech person kept saying that the issue was resolved and if I needed more help that I had to pay.
This time I hung up on him and while I did that I said that the Apple Support Community was way more helpful and it was free.
So here I am 6 months later and tried everything, Here are the problems that I am having.
    1. CS4 keeps quitting unexpectedly with no cause no error nothing. The blue light under the CS4 Ps is still lit and wont let me reopen the file, I then have to force quit the program. I then get these windows asking if I want to send a report, I click ignore cause I am tired of filling out those things. So I try to open the
photoshop file and I get the blue window with the Ps logo on it, its scanning everything but then it stops responding when the scan reaches the part where it says scanning memory and freezes. I then have to force quit the program again, I have to do this 5 times before it will open the file. Then Ps will unexpectedly quit after 2 hrs of working and starts the B.S. all over again. I dont know what is wrong with CS4. Other times it runs really slow and glitchy. It also happens on my Mac Book Pro, iMac and of course my Mac Pro.
I know its not the computers or the settings or anything interacting with it. I checked everything extensively from the terminal to permissions and back to the program itself and everything in between. I am needing help, the Adobe forums are of no use, I cant find anything there.
    2. I keep getting this error and I am not sure what it is, this only happens when I use Ps CS4 and yes it happens on all my other Apple computers.
Error: "could not save because file was already in use or left open" not sure how to fixt this, I have already tried the permissions and it did not seem to work.
All my computers run OS X Lion version 10.7.3. I had these problems even before I upgraded to Lion, 2 months later after Lion came out. These problems have been going on since Snow Leopard. All my Macs are up to date and I did use the Disk Utilities on everything... Please help me.

First off are you editing a photo that you have placed into indesign if so the in use or left open issue is a common one, the only help is to go to indesign move the picture by nugging it then go back to photoshop and try saving again, if this does not work close the indesign file then save.
On the other issue of photoshop crashing, One thing I would try would be to create another user account, Start up photoshop and only it and work with it. The reason why is to see if maybe there are some 3rd party software you have loaded on your systems that might be causing the issues. "Ya never know"
I would assume you have reinstalled photoshop on lion. Do you still have older version of OSX installed, if so try booting to them and working with photoshop to see if it works there.
    Good Luck

  • 'Could not save because access was not granted'

I have just changed to iMac from a pc.
On the pc I had two LaCie external hard drives containing all my photos. When I connected them up to my Mac, all the photos were there and I was able to edit them but the problem arose when I tried to save them. When I tried to 'save or save as', even using a different file name I am getting the 'could not save because access was not granted' message. The same message pops up even when trying to save something generated in Photoshop and not taken from the external hard drive.
I went into Applications and Disk Utility but it appears the 'hard drives cannot be written to' and the SMART status is not supported, whatever that might mean!
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, possibly your EHD need to be Mac formatted.
If you have formatted them right click on the Icon then select Get Info. On the very bottom of the Get Info window there is a section for Permissions. You need to Unlock (needs your password) and hit the + sign, from there choose YOUR name & Allow "Read Write" - See if that helps..
If the EHD are NOT Mac formatted you will need to transfer everything from one EHD to the other then format the empty drive:- Applications ->Utilities ->Disk Utility -> Hilite Erase (top of window) Mac Extended..After that send everything back to the Formatted drive & do the same to the second drive..Finally Repair Permissions on YOUR Mac Main HD & Verify Disk on the EHD's-after that All should be good..........L

  • InD blocking Ps to save a file / Could not save * because the file is already in use error

Many users have reported a  Photoshop Could not save * because the file is already in use error in many different circumstances.
I place raw jpgs in InDesign document, then open them in Photoshop via Edit original order to adjust them. On random occasions Ps gives me that annoying error. So i found a little trick to avoid saving that image under a different name and relinking it plus reloading Ps since the error repeats on other pictures to.
All you have to do is: when Ps gives error, (Cmd-Tab) switch to InD, directly select the worked jpg in image frame (one that you try to save in Ps)  and simply move it left-right (or move it and Undo). Now you can save it without problem.

JPEG is a "lossy" compression format. Every time you save as jpeg you recompress and throw away a little more information. In addition, jpeg does not support transparency or layers, both very useful features for woring with images. For example, you can add an adjustment layer in Photoshop to do your adjustments non-destructively for may of the things that you can do using Image > Adjustments... which will change your pixel data permanently. Throw away an adjustment layer and you image data is untouched. Also, ID allows you to place a layered image and control layer visibility from within ID, making it possible to multi-purpose a single file by showing or hiding various layers.

  • Message "Could not save because there is not enough memory (RAM)"

Running Mac OS9.2.2 Suddenly start to get and error message " An error occured saving the enclosure "file name" Not enough memory" when trying to save an attachment in Microsoft Outlook. Same thing with Adobe Photoshop - when trying to save an any new file - message "Could not save because there is not enough memory (RAM)".
    Already Tried:
During several freezes, suddenly my mac stop recognize any extensions. When used Microsoft Outlook and tried download an attachment got an error message type 3. So I create a new set in extensions manager and get ride of Type 3 error, but get a new error message "Not enough memory" when try to save an attachment, or "Not enough RAM" - when try to save an EPS file in Adobe Photoshop.
In Outlook ("Get Info" section)changed memory size:
    Suggested Size: 7168 K
    Minimum Size: 16000 K
    Preferred Size: 16000 K
In all mailboxes - there are not that many messages and they are not heavy at all, I checked them all before. And I rebuilt/compressed Outlook database - holding Option while restarted Outlook...
Adobe Photoshop - started acting weird at same time. Even if I want to open a file through the menu: File - Open - it gives me the same message.
Who has any clue - please help!!!

    Hi, Mike -
I have Outlook Express's Preferred memory allocation set to 45000K, and don't have any problems with attachments. Don't be afraid of increasing OE's Preferred memory allocation (nor IE's, either - I have that set to 65000K).
How large is the Messages file used by the account you're using in Outlook? You can examine that file here - (hard drive) >> Documents >> Microsoft User Data >> Identities >> (account folder, either the default "Main Identity" or one you've created) >> Messages.
It seems that the Messages file grows with each email received; but does not shrink when an email is deleted. Over time, especially when lots of attachments are involved, that file can get huge.
One way to help it not get too big is to -
    • delete attachments after copying them to the desktop. In case you're not familiar with the easy way to copy an attachment to the desktop - select the email so it opens; click the small triangle next to the legend "Attachments" between the upper pane and the lower pane in Outlook's main window; drag the attachment from the list out onto the desktop. It will be extracted and copied to that location. Once that has been done you can delete the attachment from the email with which it arrived.
    • after purging your emails of unneeded emails and attachments, compact the file. To do that, quit Outlook if it is running. Then hold down the Option key and start up Outlook. A splash screen will appear asking if you want to compact its database files - click yes. Follow the prompts.
Compacting OE's database can also fix some instances of a damaged database that can't be used.
If you could answer a few more questins, perhaps we can offer additional suggestions -
    1) How much RAM do you have installed? That means the physical RAM, not counting Virtual Memory in use, if any.
    2) How full is your hard drive - how big is it, how much free space is left unused?
    3) When was the last time you rebuilt the desktop file?

  • Could not save  because write access was not granted.

    Hi
I use lightroom 4 whit photoshop CS6 when I send any file from my NAS server whit LR4 to PS6 when I want save it take "Could not save  because write access was not granted" .
But I didn't have this problem whit LR3.6 and PS5.
    I use mac os x 10.7.4

This always happens to me on the NAS on LR3 and LR4.  If the file is local, no problem.  But on the NAS it has issues with permissions.  For me it says the file is in use and can't be overwritten.  I'm trying a new drive today with a differnet filesystem (HFS+).  Maybe that will work better.

  • Photoshop CS4 "Could not save as...because file is already in use or was left open"

    I have been using Photoshop for years, and CS4 for about a year now.  I have never had this error message pop up until this week.  It started happening right after I did the Adobe update to 11.0.2.  Everytime I try to save a PSD or JPG file now (which are the only two types of files I work with), I get this message preventing me from being able to save;
"Could not save as... because file is already in use or was left open."
I have to attempt to Save as about a dozen times before it will finally save the file.  Any suggestions on what could be wrong and how to remedy it?  Is it the update that caused this problem?

Turn off Caching of Thumbnails in Hidden thumbs.db Files
People sometimes report that they cannot manipulate their folders as they want to because Explorer has a thumbs.db file open.  Windows 7 apparently generates these files for compatibility with older software that may expect such files to exist in folders with, for example, photos in them.
The good news is that (with Windows 7 Professional and above) you can disable this through the Group Policy editor:
    Click the Start orb
Enter gpedit.msc in the search box and hit Enter.
Expand User Configuration - Administrative Templates - Windows Components.
    Click on Windows Explorer.
Right-click the entry "Turn off the caching of thumbnails in hidden thumbs.db files" and choose Edit.
    Enable the setting.

  • 10.7.2 Photoshop Could not save because write access was not granted. (To a server)

After MacOS 10.7.2 update Photoshop CS5 files are not saving when opened directly from an Apple AFP Server (10.5.8). Error dialog: Could not save "file name" because write access was not granted. If canceled, the file disappears from the server. Worked fine in 10.7.1. Anyone else have this problem? Help.

I have been working on this for the last few days. I'm getting the Could not save "file.psd" because write access was not granted. error when I open a file from my Leopard server.
I have a variety of machines in the office that I have been using to test with. It seems that the server understands who the files 'owner' is, not only by visually getting info, but with the command line, manually checking permissions. The workstations connecting to the server are in various states of confusion based on their OS. Some show the owner correctly (Leopard OS), while others (Snow Leopard and Lion) show (_unknown) as the owner. The lack of understanding of sho the file owner is seems to be the culprit, but I can't fogire out how to address it, as it's not a permission issue in my thought, rather an issue with the workstations and their OS.
I will say that intil about 2 weeks ago, we didn't have this problem. So I wonder if there has been an Apple pdate that changes something that could be causing this.
How this manifests itself, and is a real nightmare waiting to happen is when working on files from the server.  I open Photoshop to edit and save a file on a Leopard machine, the files saves fine. When I do the exact same thing on Snow Leopard or Lion machine, I get Could not save "file.psd" because write access was not granted. The files disappears and I have to save again to save it. When I go back to the Leopard machine to open the file, it opens and saves just fine.
As a test, I cleared my keychains on the Lion and Snow Leopard machines, but that didn't help.
Has anyone been able to figure out anything on this so far?

  • Could not save because write access was not granted (Mac OS)

I keep getting the above error when working off of my xserve in photoshop. It is new in CS5 which we have recently upgraded to. Several people at my office are getting it. Sometimes it displays a random name with afp in front of it (I assume it is the temp name when photoshop is swapping out the new file for the old file.) It only seems to happen with psd and psb files. I have write access to the volume in question and it doesn't matter if I am the only one accessing the folder or not. I can save as and it seems to work; but it does delete the file.
Very frustrating. Anybody have any ideas? My IT guys are struggling with it, and one of them used to work on the Flash team as well as at Apple.

The following shots are of test files from a production server running Xinet Fullpress, I mention the extremeZIP article because it is the only seemingly solidly documented article on an issue that quite a few people seem to be having.
So I ran some tests to recreate the problem, because if it can't be recreated it's not a problem in the IT world I know because I am in the IT Dept at an advertising agency here in Chicago administrating over a 130 Macs… so that aside, here's a long winded run down of the tests
    I've posted screenshots at:
    http://picasaweb.google.com/116782194976328390062/PhotoshopFileSavingIssue?authkey=Gv1sRgC MK3xpaVrIfFgAE
And a movie of a Save action stuck attempting to save to .afpDeleted file while the source file is not on the server:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5FgmaaPamvc
These are unlisted galleries and videos and will be removed when no longer needed
2 machines are used for the test
Machine #1 is running OS X 10.6.4 and is browsing the folder with Finder
machine #2 also 10.6.4 with CS5 is saving to the same file at the moment computer #1 is browsing it with Finder and generating a preview
Most times, the file is deleted and replaced, Finder will "kick you out" of the folder when the file is resaved, or other times show no preview, the timing needs to be precise (yet we have users who aren't trying this on purpose at all and manage to have this happen to them!).
When a write error does occur sometimes it says:
    A)
"Could not save "name" because write access was not granted" with the correct name used and the files remains.
    B)
"Could not save "name" because write access was not granted" with the correct name used and the original file is gone but a .afpDeletedxxxxxxxx file is found in the directory via Terminal
    C)
"Could not save "name" because write access was not granted" with the name .afpDeletedxxxxxxxxxx used and the original file is gone although the .afpDeleted file is found via terminal, it can be copied to a name that Finder will not hide, but it's hidden flags are set and 'chflags nohidden' needs to be run for it to appear in Finder
In scenario C, Photoshop will attempt to save to the .afpDeleted name with using Save even though the document name is being displayed properly in the Photoshop window. Using lsof it can be seen that Photoshop have the resource fork in use (only after the 2nd save attempt though), closing all open documents will still have this file in use, only upon quitting will it not be.
I wish I had taken a look at the .afpDeleted flags to see if it was locked or not during this, but lsof results of it being in use is pretty weird!
So here's some more puzzling evidence, thanks for your help.

  • PS CS4 could not save because the file is locked

I saw this post, my problem is very similar, but this solution does not solve my problem:
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/2121454#2121454
Everytime I try to save a photoshop file I get the "Could not save becasue this file is locked" -- and then I go to save again and it does save, becasue the file has disappeared from where I had originally saved it!
This is VERY irritating, as it is not happening EVERY time I try to save a photoshop file.
In reference to the previous post about this, I do not use Spotlight, and often I do not have anything else open when working on these photoshop files.
I am using CS4, and this occurs when saving files both on and off a server.
I am afraid I will at some point end up losing a file.
    Any suggestions?
