  • Photoshop & InDesign CS3 Crashing when Saving to Network

    Hi,
Photoshop & InDesign CS3 crashes whenever I try to save a file over the network to a shared computer we are using as a server.
    SPECIFICS
    I'm running Leopard 10.5.2
    - I have tried reinstalling the entire Creative Suite
    - I did not reinstall Version Cue
    - Tried deleting the com.adobe.mediabrowser.p.ist and Photoshop.plist preferences.
    ALSO:
    - If I create a new file on my computer and then immediately save it, it usually does not crash on the first save. But after I do a few things to the file and then try to save again, it hangs up.
-I am unable to force quit Photoshop; I have to do a hard reboot.
Adobe tech support believes it is a network problem. If so, what needs to be done to fix the network?
Thanks in advance for your help.

I've heard rumors of the "don't work from the server" thing from our IT department a few times but now I'm seeing it for myself. They are now using this thread as the reason our machines are experiencing so many crashes and errors again. Basically chalking it up to us working off the network is the culprit since they can't find anything else wrong. and since it's not supported by Adobe then were doing it wrong. But none of the workflow solutions we've looked seem faster than just saving to a network. So I'm a bit at a loss...
How are people dealing with the time it takes to copy files from the server to local and back again. How are people integrating this into workflow's where multiple people need to see and work in the same document multiple times a day?
A large part of our workload is sometimes thousand page catalogs, mostly our files are 15-25 meg InDesign files and might get up around 50 megs or so and be linked to as much as 5 gigs of image data in the extreme. I can't imagine how much time that would take to copy and work and then copy back, then if someone else were to copy and work and copy back, etc... It's almost like we'd have to copy each section to one computer and make everyone play musical chairs to come and work on the file when they needed too so we only had to copy it from the server once!
I've done a few catalog covers where the working files sometimes got up over 4 gigs, (and yes with something like this I was working local), but there were days where saving my work back to the server was like 45 minutes, a few times I had issues with the save and I'd be there screwing around for an hour and a half to make sure my work was backed up on the server. I can't imagine having to go through that every time I needed to work on a large Indesgn file that had 4-5 gigs of linked images.
Does everybody really work this way...? Or is there a magic network setup that allows a sane server side workflow? I know my IT people are compotent profesionals, but perhaps they just haven't heard the latest and greatest for Network CS Suite set up???
Personally, every time we get new boxes on our desks everything runs great for 6-8? months and then slowly but surely things get buggy and the next thing you know there's smoke coming out of your Dell. They say they fixed it and replaced the damage but the errors continue...
Anyway, I'm really shocked that working over the server is a no no. Unless you had a very small work group I think this must be a nightmare!!!

  • Indesign CS3 Crashes Randomly on Windows x64, Dual Monitor Setup

My coworker and I just had our computers upgraded Windows XP 64-bt on the following computer setup:
    Intel Core i7 920 2.66Ghz CPU
    8GB DDR3 RAM
    Gigabyte GA-EX58 Intel X58 Motherboard
    1TB Seagate ES.2 7200rpm 32MB Cache SATAII Hard  Drive
We're running CS3. Indesign keeps crashing on her machine, randomly from what we can tell. It runs fine on my machine.
We are running Indesign in compatibility mode for Windows XP on both machings (the crashing was much worse before we turned it on).
The only difference between my computer and the workstation where Indesign CS3 crashes is she has a dual monitor setup.
Any thoughts on what might be causing it?

Thanks for the heads up.We're actually kinda banking on Windows 7 to be a bit more stable and switch to that, but it's a long few months when your program crashes every few minutes.
I just realized that we don't have the latest update (5.0.4) on her machine, we've downloaded it and are hoping that will help to at least reduce the crashing...

  • LR 2.5 on Windows 7 crashing randomly - why?

I don't know if this has come up before or not. I did a search and didn't find anything on it.
I have LR 2.5 installed on a Windows 7 Ultimate machine and have been experiencing random crashes of LR. I've been trying to isolate particulars to the issue, but it seems to be totally random. The latest crash occurred when editing an image in CS3. The image was opened in LR and clicked on "Edit image is CS3". I had been working on the image for some time without returning to LR, when I received a message indicating LR stopped working. Reopening LR seems to be ok until the next random crash. Other crashes have occurred upon returning to LR from CS3, and yet others occur if I leave CS3 open and return to LR to look at an image. I have also experience a crash in LR when LR was the only application open. I just clicked on a thumbnail image and was moving the mouse up to click on "Develop" when LR crashed.
I did not have these issues when using LR 2.4.
Has anyone else experience anything similar to this? If so, is there a work around or a fix?
    Thanks.

Ok, I have looked at the event log and found two errors occurring with Lightroom. The first error seems to be coming from pen_tablet.dll and the second error comes from ntdll.dll. I would assume from this that there is a possible incompatibility with my pen tablet which is a wacom graphite 3.
    Here is the first error:
Faulting application name: lightroom.exe, version: 2.5.0.1, time stamp: 0x4a9ff23b
Faulting module name: Pen_Tablet.dll, version: 5.2.0.7, time stamp: 0x4aa6d1ff
    Exception code: 0xc0000005
    And here is the second:
Faulting application name: lightroom.exe, version: 2.5.0.1, time stamp: 0x4a9ff23b
Faulting module name: ntdll.dll, version: 6.1.7600.16385, time stamp: 0x4a5bdadb
    Exception code: 0xc0150010
I have checked and all drivers are up to date for both Windows 7 and Wacom and all other hardware I have.
    Any ideas?

  • Photoshop CC 2014 Crashes Randomly when using the Text Tool...

Since the most recent Photoshop update, CC 2014 has been extremely buggy and completely unstable on my Mac Pro, which is inexcusable from a paid service .  The most common crash for me occurs when I try to use the “text tool” or attempt to edit text (usually the color).  I am occasionally prompted with a window stating, “Could not complete your request because of a program error” and then Photoshop crashes seconds after.
After the initial crash and Apple’s various prompts I usually go through 2-3 consecutive cycles of Photoshop attempting to open back up and crashing over and over again.
I’ve attempted signing out and back in to my Creative Cloud as suggested in several threads, but that was unsuccessful in mitigating the crashing.  Is there a fix for this, other than uninstalling and reinstalling?  My studio has too many upcoming deliverables and deadlines to do a fresh install, so suggestions/solutions would be appreciated .

  • CS3 Crashes when I try to open a file

Help, I'm working to a deadline and CS3 crashes on my Mac OS X, Version 10.5.1, everytime I try to open a file.
I've restarted the computer and tried reinstalling the program.
Anyone know what I can do?

I'm having a similar problem. Every time I attempt to open a file, any type any size, Photoshop Extended CS3 crashes. This is on a fresh install of OS X 10.5.1 on a MacBook Pro 2.33GHz 3GB ram. • Photoshop crashing randomly in OSX

    Hey All,
Working with a file in photoshop cs3 and the new MacBook Pro and it has been crashing all day. It crashes randomly, not on open or save, and even with a force quit it only closes the window, not the photoshop program. I have to do a hard reboot to start over. So I started saving every 5 minutes or so (as the job is due tomorrow). However, last time it happened when I went back into the program, it said that the file had been corrupted and refused to open it! Now I'm starting the job over, but trying to get a handle on what's going wrong....any ideas?
    Peace
    Cat

Photoshop CS3 has been crashing repeatedly on me since the afternoon of 1/6/09. Not sure what triggers the crash. I re-size a window in Photoshop CS3, it crashes. I try to save a file, and it crashes. I try to edit a font layer, and it crashes. The behavior appears to be random.
I've run the disk util;ity, and it throws up these alerts:
"Warning: SUID file "System/Library/Filesystems/AppleShare/afpLoad" has been modified and will not be repaired.
Warning: SUID file "usr/bin/setregion" has been modified and will not be repaired.
Warning: SUID file "System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/Install.framework/Versions/A/Resources/runner " has been modified and will not be repaired.
Warning: SUID file "System/Library/Printers/IOMs/LPRIOM.plugin/Contents/MacOS/LPRIOMHelper" has been modified and will not be repaired."
Are these warnings related? Anyone experience this problem , or know what I can do to fix this? I've already tried re-installing Adobe CS3, and that hasn't helped. I've also tried Adobe's FixVCUIFramework application here http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=kb402521&sliceId=2 and that hasn't helped.
    Thanks!

  • Adobe Photoshop CS3 crashing at open file screen

    Hi all
I've searched online but can't find a relative discussion or solution.
I have Adobe Photoshop CS3. My system is Windows 7 and it's 64-bit (that's about as far as my hardware/technical knowledge goes...).
The problem has only started happening today. Open PS, and go to FILE>OPEN. A sub screen is opened. On the left of this sub-screen are a variety of short cut locations such as 'My Documents', 'My Pictures' and 'My Computer'. Clicking on any of these shortcut tabs results in PS crashing.
The only thing I can think of that has changed since the last time I used PS CS3 on my machine (and I use it daily) is the following:
Installed trial version of Autodesk AutoCAD LT 2014
From this, to watch a Flash video of AutoCAD demo I had to download the latest version of Adobe Flash Player (it was 2011 I believe).
Following the CS3 crashing problems I uninstalled Flash player and re-started but still no luck.
    Have not touched AutoCAD yet.
Any thoughts / comments? My company is looking to invest in AutoCAD so CS3 will need to learn to live alongside AutoCAD (IF AutoCAD is the problem, but I think this is unlikely).
Let me know what you all think!
    Thanks
    David

    Thanks for all the replies.
We (myself and our company IT guy) just tried several of the above, plus some other things.
    1. Shift/ctl/alt reset preferences. Did not solve the problem.
    2. Video driver upgrade. Did not solve the problem.
    3. Complete reinstall of CS3. Did not solve the problem.
    4. Install old video driver (apparently this solved a similar problem in another area of the company). Did not solve the problem.
    5. System rollback/restore (to 20-11-2013 settings). PROBLEM SOLVED!
We have a suspicion therefore that the Autodesk AutoCAD LT 2014 may be something to do with it. We will find out later/tomorrow as I need to get some stuff done in CS3 now (can't afford more lost time!).
Will update once we have reinstalled AutoCAD LT 2014 as to whether this changed anything.
    Thanks again
    David

  • Photoshop CS3 crashes when you click save

I had this problem for few months, Internet is full of data for Macintosh, not much for PC
The link below leads to simple but elegant solution.
    http://www.planetamd64.com/index.php?showtopic=36759&mode=linear
In short: Microsoft Office 2007 - Groove aplication creates a conflict with Photoshop CS3. just uninstall Groove and off you go, all is working perfectly.
    Hope that helps.

    Thanks for the replies.
I understand now that the procedure is probably the reason.
I was just experimenting as LAB colours are colours we see through our eyes, while RGB, CMYK etc are "computer" colours and so I use LAB colours a lot, before switching back to RGB.
I normally switch to LAB mode and click on the Lightness channel, then play with adjustments of that channel. This time I decided to mess around and see what would happen if I removed all channels except the Lightness one....
Converting to greyscale for me is not enough unfortunately and LAB B+W provides much better contrast and tone than hitting CTRL+Shift+U to greyscale.
Again, I understand what you say, my point being though that Photoshop should not crash because I incorrectly remove the channels, perhaps a warning to tell me I can't do it would be better.
I'll pass this onto Adobe anyway.
    cheers

  • Photoshop CS3 crashes when saving MAC OSX

Having problems with Photoshop CS3 crashing (Photoshop unexpectedly quit) when trying to save a file. Go to Photoshop/Preferences/File Handling/uncheck Version Cue. Seems that Version Cue is causing a lot of problems.

It always has. :/ It's an old story.
If you need Version Cue, check out this post:

  • Photoshop CS3 crashes when quitting

Hello! My Photoshop CS3 started crashing when quitting. I have Windows Vista. When I click [x] to quit, a box appears saying "Adobe Photoshop CS3 has stopped working" with button "close program", and then some problem report thing.
At first I tried reinstalling the software. It didn't help. Then I uninstalled the whole Photoshop and installed it again. It didn't help either. Now I have no idea what to do next. Does anybody have any solutions? Thanks

  • Photoshop CS3 crashes when I try to deactivate it

I will deactivate and delete Photoshop CS3 (10.0.1 German) and then install Photoshop CS5.
I use Mac Pro Early 2009 and Mac OS 10.6.3 (German).
When I start the deactivation (menu help) Photoshop crashes directly.
I have start the Mac with Shift-Key; I have started it as root; I have checked the disk permissions. No success.
Here a part of the alert "Photoshop quiet unexpectedly":
    Exception Type: EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGBUS)
    Exception Codes: KERN_PROTECTION_FAILURE at 0x0000000000000000
Crashed Thread: 0 Dispatch queue: com.apple.main-thread
    Can everyone help me?
Apart from that Photoshop works fine without any problems.

  • Photoshop CS3 crashes when I try to print from Epson R2400

    Hi,
For no reason that I can see, when I try to print from my Epson R2400, Photoshop CS3 crashes.
It was working fine up to yesterday with no issues.
I have re installed the drivers etc but no use.
I also cannot choose Printer Manages Colors, as it is now greyed out.
When the the Printer dialogue opens and I click on the Page Set up I get the Error that "Photoshop CS3 has encountered a problem and needs to close"
    Any ideas please?

    Thanks for the replies.

  • Photoshop CS3 crashes on startup in Win 7 Prof 64 bit

    Hello everyone,
I'm not sure if this particular problem has been tackled before, if it has, I apologise in advance for double posting!
I have Photoshop CS3 as part of the Master Collection that I upgraded to from the old Macromedia Studio MX.  But recently, Photoshop CS3 crashes on start-up and returns the following error: "Adobe Photoshop CS3 has stopped working"
I am running it on Windows 7 Professional 64-bit on a system with the following specs:
    CPU: Intel® Core™i7 Processor Extreme Edition i7-975 (3.33GHz
    RAM: 12 GB
    Graphics Card: 2GB ATI RADEON™ HD 5970 PCI EXPRESS - DirectX® 11
    HDD: 2x 500 GB
I tried running it under various compatibility modes, but alas, no luck - stops right at the same problem.
I've noticed that it crashes where the loading screen says 'building TWAIN Menus'.  The software has been working without a hitch righ up until i tried installing my drivers for my old Dell all in one printer/scanner.  These DID have compatibility issues, but I cant find it anywhere on my system to remove them.  Or I might;ve removed them when applying a fix to remove it.
So I guess, it's the scanner software that is doing it.  (hence I might've answered my own question).
Has anyone experienced this problem? perhaps even with thier own printer/scanners etc?  Any ideas how this might be resolved?
Any advice or help would be appreciated, thanks in advance! :-)

You should be able to remove the drivers in Device Manager – or just uninstall the Dell all-in-one.
You can also disable the TWAIN plug-in by putting a tilde in front of its name.
Fantastic!  Puting the tilde on the front of the twain plug-in has sorted it.  At least it's working until I can get the drivers off.  I tried disabling the drivers, no luck, tried removing from device manager, still no luck.  Thats something I'll need to sift through the Dell forums for.
But thankfully, Photoshop now boot and works.  Thanks guys!
