Photoshop CC incorrectly disabling 3D features and intermittently crashing

Photoshop has started acting very strange. It's incorrectly detecting less than 512MB VRAM (AMD 5770HD, 1024MB VRAM). I thought it may be a graphics driver issue but neither the latest stable nor beta seem to effect this.
Since 3D features have been disabled, the application is unstable. Changing tools a few times will always result in an appcrash exception.
System specs:
Windows 7 x64 ultimate
Core i5-3470
16GB RAM
AMD HD5770
I have a feeling I know what's causing 3D mode to disable and that's the integrated card on this motherboard. This currently acts as an additional monitor output and is set as the primary device in the bios (and I can't change this) but shares some state via some LucidLogix thing on the motherboard. Is there any way to disable this VRAM check?

Make sure you have the latest AMD drivers, then you need to work with AMD to resolve the crash in their driver.
Surely it's more a problem with something arbitrary in the motherboard chipset? But I don't know because I have no idea what mechanism Photoshop is using to detect VRAM. Seems strange that games (and Photoshop itself, before that check) are able to utilise all the VRAM. Hell, the integrated card only has 64MB assigned to it, GPU rendering in Photoshop should never have worked before.

Sounds more like your video card is the one that fails that check.

  • Since updating Firefox as suggested, when I 'save as' a jpeg, it automatically finds the folder and it's always the wrong folder. How can I disable this feature and go back to the original mode where it remains in the folder I choose until I change it?

For example, I saved a jpeg named 'picasso the guitarist'. I have folders titled A to Z. When I click 'save as' it might open the 'K' folder and I have to manually search the 'P' folder for 'Picasso' and save file. The most irritating thing is, when I 'save as' another jpeg of say 'pieter mother & child' it goes to another folder and does not remain in the 'P' folder, rather it goes to the 'X' folder or some other. This didn't happen before the last upgrade. Can I disable this new 'help' feature that is taking more time than the old version?

Current Firefox versions remember the download directory based upon the URL, so if the URL changes then the default folder may be chosen if there hasn't been selected a download folder before for that server.

  • I am always notified when redirecting to another page and I now want to disable that feature and how can I ALLOW all the time?

I always get a warning notice that Firefox can "Allow" or "Don't Allow" the redirection to another page. I am now SICK of that feature and want to know how to turn it off, please.

    Try this instead:
    Drive Partition and Format
    1. Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
    2. Select the backup volume from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
    3. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.)
    4. Click on the Erase button.
You will need to reconfigure Time Machine preferences for the backup.
FYI: Never remove Time Machine backup data except through the Time Machine application. If you aren't sure about using Time Machine then visit Pondini's Time Machine FAQ for help with all things related to Time Machine.

  • Internet Explorer 11 doesn't allow downloads and intermittantly crashes when I try.

    Hello,
I have Windows 7, 32 bit on a Dell laptop with 4Gb of RAM.  I've been primarily an IE user all along but I am now using Chrome and Firefox due to problems with IE 10 and 11.  Around the first of the year IE stopped letting me download anything
and sometimes crashes after the download bar says "filename could not be downloaded".  I have googled my fingers off and tried every remedy suggested, up to and including booting in safe mode with networking and running IE with no add-ons.
My only assumption is that one of the MS updates is the underlying cause as I haven't made any hardware or software changes.  Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.  Below is the text of one of the crashes from the technical details of the

    Hi Mikem,
This is typically due to incompatible add-ons or toolbars or an incompatible display adapter. Internet Explorer uses the graphics chipset for hardware acceleration and these issues might happen due to an older and/or incompatible driver.
Since you mentioned that you have tested under safe mode with no add-ons mode, we wonder if the problem still persists under safe mode. And when Internet Explorer not crash, did you get any message, error or the download just prompt won’t popup.
We suggest you remove all third party add-ons and temporarily stop Anti-Spyware, update your display driver then reset Internet Explorer Settings for good measure.
If resetting IE or removing Add-ons does not resolve the issue for you then it could be a compatibility issue with the Graphics card.
Under Internet Options, click the advanced tab. Under 'Accelerated Graphics', click on the checkbox next to 'Use software rendering instead of GPU rendering*'. Ensuring that it is checked, click on OK. Close Internet options.

  • Why does a new firefox version disable common features and hide them completely from use

When a new version of Firefox comes out of late, all to often when it has new features or a programmer has a different idea of what they like compared to the previous release, the features are enabled by default and things are rearranged without user choice. A case in point is that when I installed Firefox 24 on my wife's computer it disabled the menu bar and put the tabs on top. To add insult to injury there was no settings option to put the tabs back underneath!!! I don't care how much someone likes tabs on top, the proper way to handle these sorts of feature upgrades is to leave everything as it was in terms of settings and display a web page that has a button that says what each change is with a yes and no button so the user can try if they WANT or not, not just say (effectively) "we are the overlords and want you to use this and we know better". If this method is too difficult then just DON'T change the settings and leave it up to a "what's new" page. I know this is free SW and a lot of dedicated people contribute, but to do your darnedest to confuse or annoy your users is not the way to do it. Imagine if you took your car into have a new radio fitted and when you got it back the brake pedal was in the backseat and the guy said "we like it better that way"
BTW, to have the tabs immediately above the web pages you are viewing makes way more sense than having them 3 lines away.

    Hi,
I certainly agree that there were considerable changes made in Firefox v4 when it was released in March 2011. I was not a volunteer on this forum back then but looking back through the history there were quite a few support requests asking about how to make Firefox look like it used to. It was a big change to the UI.
From the support volunteers' perspective all we can do is to try to provide clear, and easy to follow, answers when users ask about changes made in new versions.
From Mozilla's perspective I believe one of the motivations behind introducing the [https://blog.mozilla.org/channels/2011/07/18/every-six-weeks/ rapid release calendar] was to ensure that updates were more incremental and less intrusive to users (i.e. only a few changes made with each release).
The Firefox UI continues to evolve (for example a new logo was recently adopted) but since the update to v4 updates have been more continuous and each release has been more minor.
My experience as a support volunteer is that this is an improvement for the users. The changes are made gradually and people have time to adapt.
Having said that the next release of Firefox (v25) will introduce the first major redesign since v4 ([http://techcrunch.com/2013/06/01/mozilla-readies-major-firefox-redesign-as-it-ponders-what-the-browser-of-the-future-should-look-like/ Australis]).
Those that prefer not to install feature updates and instead to just get security updates tend to use Firefox's Extended Support Release (ESR) versions. See here for more information:

    I hope this helps.

  • Photoshop CS5 "Drag&Drop Place" feature disable?

Photoshop CS5 now allows you to Drag and Drop files into your currently open document and place them as a "Smart" layer. This is quite a nifty feature, and I use it all the time for indesign, but i have grown so use to having Drag and Drop in photoshop simply open the dropped document, that i just cant shake the habit, and am constantly placing files that i simply wanted to open. Now Drag and Drop to open still works if you don't have any documents open or if you drag and drop over the menu bar area, but it's slightly less convenient.
I'd really like to just disable the Drag and Drop to Place, feature, but it would be nice if only placed a dropped file if you were holding down the control or alt key, otherwise it would just open it as normal.

    Hi Nick,
I understand your issue, I got the same when upgraded to PS CS5 too, now I just got used to drag the files around the PS UI.
One thing (nor sure if you already know) is that you don't have to drag the file exactly in the menubar to open it instead of place,
you can drag anywhere in the UI that not inside a open doc tab, I drag mine into my layers panel, or any pter panel that is open
    at the moment.

    Dan

  • HT4847 My sons iPhone is under my apple id. He completed a software update earlier and now receives my text messages I send and receive- how do I disable this feature??

My sons iPhone is under my apple id. He completed a software update earlier and now receives my text messages I send and receive- how do I disable this feature??

This happens when you both use the same Apple ID for iMessage.  You can continue to share the same ID for pruchasing from the iTunes & App stores, but you should be using a different ID for iMessage.  To fix this you have two choices:
On one of the phones go to Settings>Messages>Send & Receive, tap the ID, sign out, then sign back in with a different ID (so you are both using a different ID for iMessage); or
On both phones go to Settings>Messages>Send & Receive and uncheck the email address(es) shown under "You can be reached by iMessage at".  Also uncheck anyone else's phone number, if present.

  • Is it possible and legal  to disable home button and the screenshot feature in an ipad app?

I am being asked to develop an iPad app that can't be closed until some actions are done, also it must prevent the use of screenshot feature and the home button. Is this possible? Is this legal? In case of this not being legal what would happen (in legal terms) if I do develop it?

It's impossible to develop an iPad app that can't be closed until some actions are done.  The iPad programmer cannot override what happens when the user presses the 'Home' button.  The 'Home' button will always tell the front application to go to the background, and if that application doesn't cooperate within a reasonable time it will be terminated.
Bear in mind that an iPad is an overgrown iPhone.  It's always possible that someone will phone you up when you're running an app, and the app must release control and let you answer that phonecall.
I suggest you discuss the design philosophy with whoever wants the application, remembering that computers are meant to help us do what we want to do, not boss us about.

  • I want a new and more powerful (non-Apple) wireless router but I still want to use my existing Time Capsule to continue with my Time Machine backups and I still need the Time Capsule's Network Attached Storage (NAS) features and capabilities

    THE SHORTER STORY
My goal is to successfully use my existing Time Capsule (TC) with a new and more powerful wireless router. I need a new and more powerful wireless router in order to reach a distant Denon a/v receiver that is physically located in a master bedroom some 50 feet away from my modem. I need to provide this Denon a/v receiver with an Internet connection so that it can obtain its firmware updates and I need to connect this Denon a/v receiver to my network in order to use its AirPlay feature. I believe l still need the TC's Network Attached Storage (NAS) features because I am not sure if the new wireless router will provide me with the NAS like features / capabilities I need to share files between my two Apple laptops with OS X 10.8.2. And I know that I absolutely need my TC's seamless integration with Apple's Time Machine (TM) application in order to continue to make effortless backups of my two Apple laptops. To my knowledge nothing works with TM like Apple's TC. I also need the hard disk storage space built into the TC.
I cannot use a long wired Ethernet cable connection in this apartment and I cannot use power-line adapters. I have read that wireless range extenders and repeaters are difficult to successfully set-up and that they will reduce data speeds, especially so when incorrectly set-up. I cannot relocate my modem and/or primary base station wireless router.
In short, I want to use my TC with my new and more powerful wireless router. I need to stop using the TC to connect to the modem. However, I still need the TC for seamless TM backups. I also need to use the TC's built in hard drive for storage. And I may still need the TC's NAS capabilities to share files wirelessly between laptops because I am assuming the new wireless router will not provide NAS capabilities for OS X 10.8.2 (products like this/non-Apple products rarely seem to work with OS X 10.8.2/Macs to provide NAS features and capabilities). Finally, I want to continue to use my Apple laptop and AirPlay to wirelessly access and play my iTunes music collection stored on the TC's hard drive. I also want to continue to use my Apple laptop, AirPlay and Apple TV to wirelessly watch movies and TV shows stored on the additional external hard drive connected to the TC via USB. Can someone please advise on how to set-up my new Asus wireless router with my existing TC in such a way to accomplish all of this?
What is the best configuration or set-up to accomplish my above goals?
Thank you in advance for your assistance!!!
    THE FULL STORY
I live in an apartment building where my existing Time Capsule (TC) is located in my living room and serves many purposes. Specially, my TC is at least all of the following:
    (1) Wi-Fi router connected to Comcast Internet service via Motorola SB6121 cable modem - currently the TC is the Wi-Fi base station that connects to the modem and has the gateway address to the Internet. The TC now provides the DHCP service for the Wi-Fi network.
    (2) Wireless router providing Internet and Wi-Fi network access to several Wi-Fi clients - two Apple laptop computers, an iPod touch, an iPad and an iPhone all connect wirelessly to the Internet via the TC.
    (3) Wired Ethernet router providing Internet and Wi-Fi network access to three different devices - a Panasonic TV, LG Blu-Ray player and an Apple TV each use one of the three LAN ports on the back of the TC to gain access to the Internet.
    (4) Primary base station in my attempt to extend my wireless network to a distant (located far away) Denon a/v receiver requiring a wired Ethernet connection - In addition to the TC, which is my primary base station, I am also using a second extended Wi-Fi base station (a Netgear branded product) to wirelessly extend my WiFi network to a Denon receiver located in the master bedroom and requiring a wired Ethernet connection. I cannot use a wired Ethernet connection to continuously travel from the living room to the master bedroom. The distance is too great as I cannot effectively hide the Ethernet cable in this apartment.
    (5) Time Machine (TM) backup facilitator - I use my TC to wirelessly back-up two Apple laptops using Apple's Time Machine (TM) application. However, I ran out of storage space on my TC and therefore added external storage to it. Specifically, I added an external hard drive to my TC via the USB port on the back of the TC. I now use this added external hard drive connected to the TC via USB as the destination storage drive for my TM back-ups. I have partitioned the added external hard drive, and each of the several partitions all have enough storage space (e.g., each of the two partitions used by TM are sized at three times the hard drive space of each laptop, etc.). Everything works flawlessly.
    (6) Network Attached Storage (NAS) - In addition to using the TC's Network Attached Storage (NAS) capabilities to wirelessly back-up two Apple laptops via TM, I also store other additional files on both (A) the hard drive built into the TC and (B) the additional external hard drive connected to the TC via USB (there are additional separate partitions on this drive for these other additional and non-TM backup files).
I use the TC's NAS feature with my Apple laptop and AirPlay to wirelessly access and play my iTunes music collection stored on the TC's hard drive. I also use my Apple laptop, AirPlay and Apple TV to wirelessly watch movies and TV shows stored on the additional external hard drive connected to the TC via USB. Again, everything works wirelessly and flawlessly. (Note: the Apple TV is connected to the network via Ethernet and a LAN port on the back of the TC).
The issue I am having is when I try to listen to music via Apple's AirPlay in the master bedroom. This master bedroom is located at a distance of two rooms away from the TC's current location in the living room, which is a distance of about 50 feet. This apartment has a long rectangular floor plan where each room is connected to the next in a straight line. In order to use AirPlay in the master bedroom I am using a second extended Wi-Fi base station (a Netgear branded product) to wirelessly extend my WiFi network to a Denon receiver located in the master bedroom and requiring a wired Ethernet connection. This additional base station connects wirelessly to the WiFi network provided by my TC and then gives my Denon receiver the wired Ethernet connection it needs to use AirPlay. I have tried moving my iTunes music directly onto my laptop's hard drive, and then I used AirPlay on this same laptop to connect to the Denon receiver. I always get a successful connection and the song plays, but the problem is that the connection inevitably drops.
I live in an apartment building and all of the many wireless routers in this building create a great deal of WiFi interference on both the 2.4 GHz and 5GHz bands. I have tried connecting the Netgear product to each the 2.4 and 5 GHz bands, but neither band can successfully maintain a wireless connection between the TC and the Netgear product. I also attempted to maintain a wireless connection to an iPod touch using the 2.4 GHz band and AirPlay on this iPod touch to play music on the Denon receiver. Again, I was able to establish a connection and successfully play music, but after a few minutes the connection dropped and the music stopped playing. I therefore have concluded that I have a poor wireless connection in the master bedroom. I can establish a connection, but it is intermittent with frequent drops. I have verified this with both laptops by working in the master bedroom for an entire day on both laptops. The Internet connection in this master bedroom proved to drop out frequently - about once an hour with the laptops. The wireless connection and the frequency of its dropout are far worse with the iPod touch and an iPhone.
I cannot relocate the TC. Also, this is an apartment and I therefore cannot extend the range of my network with Ethernet cable (I cannot drill through walls/ceilings, etc.). It is an old building with antiquated wiring and power-line adapters are not likely to function properly, nor can I spare the direct power outlet required with a power-line adapter. I simply need every outlet I can get and cannot afford to block any direct outlet.
My solution is to use a more powerful wireless router. I found the ASUS RT-AC66U Dual-Band Wireless-AC1750 Gigabit Router which will likely provide a better connection to my wireless Internet in the master bedroom than the TC. The 802.11ac band of this Asus wireless router is totally useless to me, but based on what I have read I believe this router will provide a stronger connection at greater distances then my TC. And I will be ready for 802.11ac when it becomes more widely available.
However, I still need to maintain the TC's ability to work seamlessly with TM to backup my two laptops. Also, I doubt the new Asus router will provide OS X 10.8.2 with NAS like features and capabilities. Therefore, I still would like to use the TC's NAS capabilities to share files on my network wirelessly assuming the Asus wireless router fails to provide this feature. I need a new and more powerful wireless router, but I need to maintain the TC's NAS features and seamless integration with TM. Can someone advise on how to set-up my existing TC with this new Asus wireless router in such a way to accomplish all of this?

In regards to a Plan B, I hear ya brother. I am already on what feels like Plan Z. Getting WiFi to a far off room in an apartment building crowded with WiFi routers is a major pain.
I am basing my thoughts on the potential of a new and more powerful router reaching the far off master bedroom based on positive reviews on cnet.com, pcmag.com and pcworld.com. All 3 of these web sites have reviewed the Asus RT-AC66U 802.11AC wireless router as well as its virtual twin cousin 802.11n router. What impressed me is that all 3 sites rated this router #1 overall in terms of both range and speed (in both the 802.11n and 802.11AC flavors). They tested the router in real world scenarios where the router needed to compete with a lot of other wireless routers. One of the sites even buried this Asus router in a media room with thick walls and inside a media cabinet. This Asus router should be able to serve my 2.4 GHz band wireless clients (iPod Touch and iPhone 4) with a 2.4GHz Wireless-N band offering some 50 feet of dependable range and a 60 Mbps throughput at that range. I am hoping that works, but it's borderline for my master bedroom. My 5 GHz wireless clients (laptops) will enjoy a 5GHz Wireless-N band offering 150 feet of range and a 200 Mbps throughput at that range. I have no idea what most of that stuff means, but I did also read that Asus could reach 300 feet and I got really excited. My mileage may vary of course and I'm sure I'm making some mistakes in my interpretation of their data. However, my Winter 2009 Time Capsule was rated by cnet.com to deliver real world performance of less than that, and 802.11AC may or may not be useful to me someday. But when this Asus arrives and provides anything other than an excellent and consistent wireless signal without drops in the master bedroom it's going right back!
Your solution sounds great, but I have some questions. I'm using OS X 10.8.2 and Airport Utility (version 6.1 610.31) and on its third tab labeled "Wireless" the top option enables you to set "Network Mode" to either:
    Create a wireless network
    Extend a wireless network
    Off
Given your advice to "Turn off the wireless on the TC," should I set Network Mode to Off? Sorry, I'm clueless in regards to how to turn off the wireless on the TC any other way. Can you provide specific steps on how to turn off the wireless on the TC? If what I wrote is correct then what should the rest of this Wireless tab look like, or perhaps it is irrelevant when wireless is off?
Next, what do you mean by "Configure the TC in Bridge Mode?" Under Airports Utility's fourth tab labeled "Network" the top option "Router Mode" allows for either:
    DHCP and Nat
    DHCP Only
    Off (Bridge Mode)
Is your advice to Configure the TC in Bridge Mode as simple as setting Router Mode to Off (Bridge Mode)? If yes, then what should the rest of this "Network" tab look like? Anything else involved in configuring the TC in Bridge Mode or is it really as simple as setting the Router Mode to "Off (Bridge Mode)"?
How about the other tabs in Airport Utility, can they all stay as is assuming I use the same network name and password for the new Asus wireless router? Or do I need to make any other changes to the TC via Airport Utility?
Finally, in regards to your Plan B suggestion. I agree. But do you have a Plan B for me? I would greatly appreciate any alternative you could provide. Specifically, if you needed a TC's Internet connection to reach a far off corner of your home how would you do it? In the master bedroom I need both a wired Ethernet connection for the Denon a/v receiver and wireless Internet connection for the iPhone and iPod Touch.
Power-Line Adapters - High Cost, Blocks at Least One Wall Outlet and Does Not Solve the Wireless Need
I actually like exactly one power-line adapter, which is the D-Link DHP-540 PowerLine AV 500 4-Port Gigabit Switch. This D-Link power-line adapter plugs into your wall outlet with a normal sized plug (regular standard power cord much like any other electronic device) instead of all of the other recommended power-line adapters that not only use at least one wall outlet but also often block the second outlet. You cannot use a power strip with a power-line adapter which is very impractical for me. And everything about my home is strange and upside down. The wiring here is a disaster and I don't have faith in its ability to carry Internet access from the living room to the master bedroom. And this D-Link power-line adapter costs $90 each and I need at least two to make the connection to the Denon A/V receiver. So, $180 on this solution and I still don't have a dependable drop free wireless connection in the master bedroom. The Denon might get its Ethernet Internet connection from the power-line adapter, but if I want to use an iPhone 4 or iPod Touch to stream AirPlay music to the Denon wirelessly (Pandora/iTunes, etc.) from the master bedroom the wireless connection will not be stable in there and I've already spent $190 on just the two power-line adapters needed.
Extenders / Repeaters / Wirelessly Extending the Wireless Network
I have also read great things about the Amped Wireless High Power Wireless-N 600mW Gigabit Dual Band Range Extender (Repeater) SR20000G and the My Net Wi-Fi Range Extender. The former is very powerful and the latter is easier to install. Both cost about $150 ish so similar to a new Asus router. However, everything I read about Range Extenders points to them not being very effective for a far off corner of your house wherein it's apparently hard to place the range extender in the sweet spot where it both gets a strong enough signal to actually effectively extend the wireless signal and otherwise does not reduce network throughput speeds to unacceptable speeds.
Creating a Roaming Network By Hard Wiring with Ethernet Cable - Wife Would Say, "**** No!"
Even Apple seems to warn against wirelessly extending your network (see: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4145#) and otherwise strongly recommends a roaming network where Ethernet cable is used to connect two wireless base stations. However, I am in an apartment where stringing together two wireless base stations with Ethernet cable would have an extremely low wife acceptance factor (WAF). I cannot (both contractually and from a skill prospective) hide Ethernet wire in the walls or ceiling. And having visible Ethernet cable running from room-to-room would be unacceptable, especially to the wife.
So what is left? Do you have a Plan B for me? Thanks in advance for your help!

  • How can I diagnose an intermittent crash when saving in Photoshop CS5 in Windows 7 (64bit)?

    Hello,
I have been experiencing an intermittent crash of Photoshop CS5 in Windows 7 when saving. I cannot effectively reproduce the problem and am having difficulty diagnosing the cause of the it. I have updated Photoshop to 12.0.4.0 and still experience the crash. Can someone offer advice as to how to resolve this issue? It is troublesome since I lose all my work without any means of recovery when it happens.
    Hardware:
    AMD Phenom II X4 965 3.4GHz
    8GB RAM
    AMD Radeon HD 5450
    Software:
Windows 7 Home Premium Version 6.1 (Build 7601: Service Pack 1)
    Photoshop CS5 12.0.4 x64
    Thanks in advance.
    Susan

    Hunt,
Thanks for the advice. Here is what I have done so far which has not alleviated the crashes while saving:
Only run the application as administrator
    Clear the preferences file
Disabled virus checking on files I am using
Disabled virus checking on file writes (just in case the above was not enough)
Looking at the Event Viewer, these are 3 events logged around the time of the crash (I created a view to include all events within 10 minutes of the crash). Details below (pardon the xml - it is how the event is copied out):

  • I entered my passcode incorrectly too many times and now my iPod Touch is diasbled.

I enterd my passcode incorrectly too many times and now my iPod Touch is disabled. Currently, my laptop is being fixed so I cannot connect it to iTunes without losing everything on my iPod. Is there any way I can regain acces to it?

Place the iPod in Recovery Mode and restore via iTunes.
iOS: Wrong passcode results in red disabled screen
That is the only way ands the iPod will be erased. The screen-lock is a very good security feature.

  • Latency and Intermittent connection since 24th of July.

There is a large tree branch leaning on the cable wire in the back rinning from the main box to the pole. The wire looks intertwined in smaller branches and a larger branch leaning heavily on it making like a v effect.  This would cause noise frequency and an intermmittent connection according to what I read online. Accordingly any weight on a cable wire would cause for an signal interference. The area was affected by several outages in the last 2 weeks, which appeared to be resolved, one which was a lightning strike on one of the Nodes. I believe there still be something wrong because others in the area are getting intermittency and weak signals at certain times and not others.  Since I use the internet for work purposes I need the connection to provide over 100mbps of download at least 99 percent of the time. This is what I am paying for. I am getting 30 at times and 100 at others causing it to be difficult to do my job.  I have had the service checked several times and they keep reporting yellow signal of high noise frequency comming to the co-axle from somewhere. There were not able to pin point it, but the large tree branch may be the issue.  After speaking to several reps. over the last 2 weeks and reporting the need to free the drop wire from the tree branch at least a dozen times to reps in technical support, I found out yesterday that there is no NOTES taken anywhere on the account reporting a tree branch issue. This convinced me that comcast is falsifying/modifying the support call notes for some reason. In fact since the 29th of July when a technician took pictures of the issue and allegedly reported this to maintenance, NOTHING has been done about the tree branch or the latency and intermittent connection I still have.  I also had a major CREEPY experience with the technician that came out here that day.  I now have an appointment for Monday which was rescheduled again from Thursday without notice and I waited hour on Thursday for someone to show up, but no one did and they rescheduled it until Monday without an explanation. Supervisor said it might be because they needed a bigger team to come out on Monday. If this is not taken care of on Monday Corporate will be hearing more of me.

  • One More Rant as to Fios features and "improvements"

What kind of marketers does fios have that force their programmers to do such a horrid job?
my wife and i got up this morning. beautiful sunny morning, warm for the first time. we turned on the tv, and saw a show we wanted, so i hit record... as she was getting ready for the day, i saw one that we could watch with breakfast. so i paused the movie, and we went to make breakfast... made it, came back, went to watch the movie, fast forward to its start.
my wife then aks for the description of the movie... so you hit play, the menu comes up.. .
it goes away too fast and so she asked me to display it again.
i hit it, and now, for some screwed up reason, it throws me to on demand
i dont want on demand. on demand cant pause, the play back is bad, when its bad you cant restart and move to where you were, you cant skip, and the list goes on on how horrible its implemented.
but you dont have a choice.. your watching a movie from the beginig with full features, and now fios things you want to go to on demand to watch what your watching with reduced features... screwed up
but, when we get back to the channel to see the movie... its now fast forwarded to current time, and fios has deleted the lead time so you cant go back
in fact, fios does this alot... unlike directv, which says, if you save some movie time, dont delete it.
fios says, if you save some movie time too bad, we know better, we will delete it, and peeve you off, then force you to a free on demand of the same movie wiht fewer features.
but now... you go to the movie on demand, click the hd like you had and go to try to watch and what do you get? a completely unwatchable scrambled mess that cant play no matter how many times you try.
so isnt that great... we have a wonderful morning.  save a bit of time to cook a great breakfast, sit down happy to watch, and voila... the fios programming is so horrid it ruins your morning...  you dont get to watch what you want, you lose what you have, your now **bleep** off at the DVR and you know that as long as your stuck on crap city dvr programming, your going to hae to deal with this oer and over
the new feature to go watch what your already watching is insanely stupid and horrid..
why does fios think that you want to stop what you are watching with longer pause time, ability to go back wards and forwards.. .which is critical to be able to get rid of the audio artifacts that constantly come up and scramble the voice.
this is one reason my wife and i try to avoid watchnig on demand. it not only wont let you back up to get rid of the audio crud, but will lose your location... want to really have fun? watch a movie for an hour and a half be on the last 15 minutes, get audio artifacts scrambling the sound, and now you have to watch 1 and a half hours with commercials to get back to what you were just watching..
    oh joy
not to mention another issue is that you pay for 75megs... and then fios takes the time to slowly move your speed down farther and farter unless you watch it and call and spend an hour getting what you paid for.... ie, their norm is to cheat you from what you pay for, to some lower rate and pocket the money.
right now, i pay for 75, i get 50, and sometimes it drops to 30...
why pay for 75, if you only get 50..
why have to keep calling to stop them from cheating you? i earn money when not calling fios.. .
and i know its a cheat as they never make a mistake in your favor.
you never ever subscribe to 50 and accidently get 75.
    what a freaking mess..
my wife and i are disussion paying more to get away from this horrid thing.
and its been horrid this way for two years of our subscription
the idea that the DVR delete time you have saved sucks big time.
the fact your disk drive is too small to record everything so this doesnt happen sucks
the fact that they replace commercials with stuff that is connected to google and facebook really sucks
[i went online looked up some stuff and for months had to see the same commercial over and over for some scam options trading book i dont want, never wanted, was never interested in, etc... but i could not shut it off to see other commercials. even worse, they will do this after you buy the product in other cases. i was at work, needed to search for something, now that something my company purchased is unundating me with ads for something i already purchased!!!!]
the idea that fios changes the operation of the DVR then blames you for not knowing the changes, or being used to how it is and you been using it for years...
all that stuff is completely annoying... as is having to get a pin number to log in every time as passwords dont work right. i had to create a diferent forum id, as the system would not let me log in with the one i have... so i have to reregeister to post most times...
they would be the best company in the world if it wasnt for the idea that they leverage the great tech to mistreat their customers, give bad service, program the dvr with substandard choices of operation, cheat them out of bandwidth stealing time from their lives they wont get back to tell them to up it again..  (sorry, i am a programmer in researxh computing, its not hard to know how much bandwitth your delivering and compare that with the contract rate.  if i didnt pay my bill, you would harm my credit, my family, and future... but you get to cheat the customer out of bandwith they pay for, and what happens? nothing...
of ourse this rant will go nowhere...   why should it?
its not like they will refud me the money for bandwidth they didnt deliver (as i dont have the time to have some person who can barely program tell me to reboot hundred times and waste an hour before saying, its on our side. etc).
its not like they will change dvr programming to presere what you want, and not dump it cause they want to
the way i see it, the only reason for them to dump what your watching to see what your watching is so that they can fluff up the numbers on the on demand services when reporting growth to shareholders... ie. scamming the investors.
there is no other real reason to have that other than scamming or incompetence. and neither are good... are they?
dumping what people are watching for the same thing with less features cant be spun into a postive.. can it?
    thats it for now...
rather than watch a movie this morning and being happy, we did not get to have that
in fact, we are thinking why bother with a service that constistently changes a good day into a bad day as a NORMALcourse of business?
[i have been a customer since their bell atlantic days... their tech is great, but this stuff really stinks and with their money and so forth, they could do a lot better... switching back to directv may be the only way to go as that dvr does not do the stupid horrid stuff that fios does, it preserves your shows, and overall, the software is much better, without any artifacts or scrambling all the time...
i suspect that i will lose this online name again... why not?  they lost the other one and locked me out of that...

There are settings you can change or disable for some of the issues you mention. you should go into the menu's settings and explore. Turn off promotions, etc..
