Photoshop CC - keyboard shortcut unit increments

Hi everyone. InDesign and Illustrator both have the options in their preferences to set unit increments that relate to altering type attributes such as font size, kerning, tracking, leading with keyboard shortcuts. For instance I like to be able to adjust tracking by 1/1000 em, leading by 1pt etc.
However, I can't find any way to set Photoshop up to do a similar thing. It defaults to 20/1000 em tracking increment. Anybody know a way to change that I don't?
Cheers
Keith

Have you tried a different keyboard to exclude a defective Option key?
How did you delete the Photoshop preferences.  If you did that manually (very bad idea) try it the proper way:
Preference filenames and locations in Photoshop CC
To re-create the preferences files for Photoshop, start the application while holding down Ctrl+Alt+Shift (Windows) or Command+Option+Shift (Mac OS). Then, click Yes to the message, "Delete the Adobe Photoshop Settings file?"

  • Photoshop CS6 keyboard shortcuts in PSE 12

Has the structure of the .kys file changed in CS6?  I used to be able to use the keyboard shortcuts from CS5 with my wife's laptop.  We recently went to CS6 on my desktop and PSE 12 on her laptop, and now the keyboard shortcuts that I try to copy from CS6 to PSE not only don't work, but are deleted by PSE as it exits.  I've put an old keyboard shortcuts.psp file that I had from CS5, and it works fine and doesn't get deleted.
If my conclusion that the shortcuts are different and incompatible is correct, is there any workaround?
    I'm using Windows 7.  Thanks!

It looks like the shortcuts from cs6 won't work in pse 12 and they don't work in photoshop cs5 either, so adobe must have changed something.
Anyway, it's probably best to use the keyboard shortcuts from photoshop cs5, since pse 12 is mostly based on the photoshop cs5 code.
This the message one gets in photoshop cs5 when trying to load a keyboard shortcuts file saved out of photoshop cs6.

  • Another "edit in photoshop" and keyboard shortcut question

I have both PSCS6 32 bit and 64 bit installed on my computer (usual default installation). When I next installed LR4, it automatically picked PSCS6 64 bit as the default external editor without asking my preference.
I always use PSCS6 32 bit and not the 64 bit version.
While I can add the PSCS6 32 bit program as an "additional external editor" and access it from a right click contextual menu for editing an image from LR4, I cannot use the convenient Ctrl + E keyboard shortcut since that will always launch the unwanted PSCS6 64 bit program.
Is there a way to reestablish this keyboard shortcut convenience for my 32 bit program?
    Thanks in advance!
    OS: Windows 7 professional

    Scott,
There is a registry hack you could try:
    http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/multi/edit-photoshop-command-missing-photoshop.html
That's for making PS show up when it doesn't show up at all, but there's a place to add the path to the executable that you could modify to point to the 32-bit version. You might want to do a checkpoint for System Restore before you start.

  • Photoshop CS5 Keyboard shortcut for 2up view?

In older version, window > arange > tile, gave me side by side tile of windows. In CS5 it defaults to above and below. I know I can simply click the Arange Documents and then 2up but I use this very frequent and would like to have a simple keyboard shortcut for it. Can this default be changed if not...? I can not find the 2up layout item in the keyboard shortcuts and have tried setting up a action but can not seem to get that to work. Can anyone help? I use this all day to compare images and all of my images fit best side by side. Help?

i dont want to use the application frame either just to get 2-up functionality. I dont think users should be forced to use a differnt workspace. the app frame takes up space and doesnt even really work correctly when you move panels around. either way it would be great to have the same view optoins in the menus that are now exclusive to the app frame. if you feel strongly about it - post a request on adobe's new feedback site. this is wehre they are mostly listening to users requests now.

  • Photoshop CS6 keyboard shortcut not working -- what is this red bar tool?

I want Ctrl+Shift+S to do SAVE AS.  I set it as such in the keyboard shortcuts, but when I do that key combo, all I get is this:
What is this thing?  The mouse pointer changes to this.  I can move it around and draw a box (in the background of PS, outside any open images).  I have no idea what it is, but I want it to go away and do SAVE AS instead.  Can anyone help?  Thanks.

Hi Globe199, PS already has this shortcut for Save As by default as shown below.
Have you changed something in Keyboard Shortcuts ?

  • Can't use the keyboard shortcuts in Photoshop CS6 when updating Mavericks

Can't use the keyboard shortcuts in Photoshop CS6 when updating Mavericks

Thanks everyone. What worked for me was a version of the suggestions above. I had the problem with the ≠ character appearing in all my Photoshop CS6 keyboard shortcuts and rendering them largely unusable. However, I don't have any other keyboards besides US English enabled on my Mac. I do have Spell Catcher installed, which works through the keyboard input method. So, I switched from Spell Catcher back to English (with the US flag), launched Photoshop and presto, my keyboard shortcuts were restored, absent that obnoxious ≠ symbol. Once in Photoshop, if I reselect Spell Catcher, the ≠ symbol returns so I have to run Photoshop without the help of Spell Catcher - or forego the use of keyboard shortcuts while it's on. Since the developer of Spell Catcher passed away last year there will be no more updates to the otherwise very useful utility. Apparently this keyboard shortcut problem in the various guises reported here is linked to some element of the OS X input method in Mavericks, as Photoshop seems to manifest the issue in relation to one specific input source or another. This is the first application in my experience to have a problem with Spell Catcher in OS X 10.9. So I will continue to use it, except in Photoshop. Spell Catcher was never updated for Mountain Lion or Mavericks so people like me will have to use it "at our own risk" as the saying goes. Be that as it may, it does appear to be a bug in Photoshop that's at the root of this matter as different people have somewhat different problems with the OS X input method - not that I expect either Adobe or Apple to do anything about it.

  • Learn Photoshop Keyboard Shortcuts with this Web App

    Hi all,
Here's an intuitive way to learn Photoshop CS5 and CS6 keyboard shortcuts, for Mac and PC:
    http://photoshopkeyboardshortcuts.com/adobe-photoshop-cs6-keyboard-shortcuts/
    have fun!

    Haven't seen that in CS5 or CS6.
Is your keyboard wired or wireless, and if it's wireless is it USB or BlueTooth?
    Have your reset your PRAM?
    Shut the Mac down completely.
Holding the Cmd+Opt+P+R keys (⌘+⌥+P+R), press the power button.
Listen for the "Startup chime" to sound three times.
    Release the keys.

  • Keyboard shortcut for cycling through open images

hi guys, i am working in a PC Photoshop now. Which is the Keyboard Shortcut for cycling through open images? Where i can change it if i want it? I mean clying through open images and not applications which is Control+TAB.

Actually Ctrl+Tab is the photoshop windows keyboard shortcut for cycling through open images.
Does that not work for you?

  • Step Backward keyboard shortcut not working, infurating!

Running the latest Photoshop CS6 on Mac and the Step Backward keyboard shorcut does not work at all. Command-Z works fine; Command-Option-Z does nothing. I don't believe I'm running any custom keyboard apps that would interfere, and when I check Photoshop's Keyboard Shortcuts it's right there (correctly set as the default). Has anyone else run into this problem before? Thanks for any insights!

    Hi Noel,
More than just about anyone else, you're the guy who walked me kicking and screaming into digital sensibilities via the once excellent and much lamented Rob Galbraith forums. Thanks!
I used to do as you suggested, but having two identically specced PC's has  important functions in my studio. An assistant can work right next to me to speed through a project, I can roll to my left to PC-2 when PC-1 is doing a long, resourse intensive batch process. Vitally, if one system goes down, I can just roll across and keep working with very little lost work as all work is being saved pretty much on the fly to a very fast & secure Synology NAS. This setup saved my backside just one week ago. I've learned the hard way that major system crashes are not just a possibility, they're a certainty. Thus, my insurance...

  • PS CS6 keyboard shortcuts aren't!

The shortcuts work to an extent. That is, for instance if I hit M for marquee I get the marquee. BUT if I hit M again it won't change to the next one. And it's the same for all shortcuts. I have to mouse to the icon to change it. What gives? Is there a setting I'm missing?

For a reference to Adobe Photoshop's keyboard shortcuts, take a look at the new Photoshop CS6 Quick Reference Guide. It is in its beta form, but it is a great way to find shortcuts, as well as find a menu location that might have changed from CS5. We are looking for your feedback, which you can contribute on the site as well.

  • Keyboard Shortcuts Stop Working

When using Photoshop CC, my keyboard shortcuts are not working properly. For example, I will be cruising along on a painting and then my command-z will stop working. I then have to open the history tab and manually undo my last mark. Or I will attempt to switch from brush to eraser by hitting the E key and it doesn't switch. I ended up marking instead of erasing and am just doubling my work. I should mention I am using a Wacom Intiuos 3 tablet.
This problem is crippling my work flow and is making the program near obsolete for my purposes. Please help!

I'm having a similar issue. After a short while working, my shortcuts stop working.  I notice usually first with "undo" (cmd+z) then can't switch to simple tools like "eraser" (e) and feel like I'm suddenly imagining things...
The workaround I've found so far is that I need to click on Photoshop with my mouse pointer, like the the top window bar, to kind of get my mac focused on photoshop again, then a keyboard shortcut will work, then sometime shortly after, while working, my keyboard shortcuts will stop registering again.  I hope this is helpful for elihalpert.  I hope this is the same issue so that there's better hope of it being found, duplicated, and resolved.
This is really aggravating.  I haven't changed my equipment or workflow.  I have updated to Yosemite since the last time I recall working trouble-free.  But I'm fairly certain I'm not accidentally clicking out of photoshop or keyboard shortcutting to another program in any way.  I really hope someone sees this and can get to the bottom of it!

  • PS, OS X and Norwegian Apple keyboard, shortcut problems

I have searched high and low (forums, google etc) for a solution to my problem. I am becoming quite desperate and thought it wise to post. It might be an odd problem that only a few of us have, since it relies on a non-US keyboard. I might share my problem with more people than I realise.
My problem is Photoshop and keyboard shortcuts.
E.g. I am using Magentic Lasso Tool and want to increase or decrease the tolerance level or I am using a brush and I want to increase or decrease brush size. These commands rely on [,],{,} and similar keys. Especially when using Magentic Lasso Tool (I use that and brush a lot for masking) I need to increase and decrease contrast.
On a Norwegian Apple keyboard [,],{,} and similar keys are mapped with pressing the ALT + 8 and 9 or ALT + SHIFT 8 and 9 accordingly. Photoshop doesn't recognize ALT + or ALT + SHIFT modifiers. It just doesn't work and I can't access the shortcuts.
I can't use the mouse to navigate to Tolerance either, as with Magentic Lasso Tool it will create a path upwards in the canvas towards the toolbar and when I click the value box to change it will complete the current path to selection.
I thought I'd be smart and change the shortcut in Tools from [,] to ALT + 8 and 9, but Photoshop denies me this with the message "Opt+8 is an invalid shortcut. You can only use a single character for tool shortcuts."
I can map the keys to something else and sacrifice another important shortcut of course. This would just cause more problems down the line.
I know there are users or lurkers in this forum with a similar problem. Anyone up for giving me my sanity back?

Exactly. Bad translations and the lack of application-updates were the main reasons I originally switched to US English versions years and versions ago. Unfortunately I need to use Swedish localized versions at work so I still see the lousy translations.
For those of you who are only using English and living in English speaking countries, note that the problem is that keyboards that come with the machines are localized to your area and if you change keyboard layout the layout of the keys do not match what is under them. Does make it hard to work unles you glue something to the keys or create an overlay (remember those?) for the keyboard. That means that for isntance you cannot reach the tilde key (just an example, there are other ones too) but by using yet other keys to get there. That's what breaks the shortcut.
Editing keyboard shortcuts in each and every version of the applications is usally also not an option (and in some apps those shortcuts - if they can be called shortcuts when they contain around 4 keys...) as the shortcuts do not even reside in a selfcontained file that you can move to other machines, but is embedded into other settings. Or hardcoded into the application an unreachable. And not portable between versions.
Changing keyboard layout in Internationl is not an option either.
The only application that is semi-smart is actually Bridge where you can set your keyboard prefs to another keyboard layout than the one you use for the application itself (Bridge is multi-lingual like OS X) and then the shortcuts follow with that setting. On the other hand you cannot edit shortcuts in Bridge. Bridge is also a limited application when it comes to features and shortcuts which makes this esier from an engeneering view I would guess. The other Adobe apps are far more complex in that regard (and if a short-cut would be changed in favour of the international users in for instance Illustrator, you would hear a roar you wouldn't believe from those Illustrator users....those are a conservative bunch).
The only solution that would be a good one would be if there would be no hardcoded shortcuts at all that are tied to one keyboard layout only, the US English one, but would use keys that can be used regardless of keyboard layout used at user end. I've fought for this for many years but so far only with limited success.

  • Adobe Photoshop CS5.1 Keyboard Shortcuts Help

Hey! Not sure if I am posting this in the right location, but anyway...
I use a Wacom Cintiq with my Photoshop Cs5.1 package and have had some troubles when it comes to a particular keyboard shortcut.
The scroll wheel on the Cintiq when it's set to brush size is using the default "[ and ]" which scales up and down the brush size in Photoshop and is how I want it to be. Though when I am painting I use the eyedropper tool a lot which is the "Option" key. I don't really want to change this as I am used to it being in that location and am not sure where else to set it on my keyboard.
So the problem here is that when I am using the scroll wheel for brush size I am sometimes holding down the Option key so the keyboard shortcut "Opt + [ and ]" is being used which cycles through the different layers I have made. This can be very annoying when I am happily painting my illustration and suddenly I'm on a different layer without realising it.
So how do you remove this keyboard shortcut "Opt + [ and ]" as I don't want it to cycle through the layers with this, I'd rather it be deleted. I have looked through keyboard shortcuts and can't find anything, I've also checked online and cannot locate a way of disabling it, thanks!
P.S You may be thinking why don't I just change the keyboard shortcut to the brush size scroll wheel. Well I have tried that and it seems to be a little bit laggy if it doesn't use "[ and ]".

    nobody know?
