Photoshop CC locking up saying "Reading Camera Raw Format" when opening file from Lightroom

When I open a file from Lightroom, CC opens and asks about sending data to Adobe, and no matter what answer you give the program locks up at the "Reading Camera Raw Format" prompt.

What files from which camera do you use? Where are they stored? What system? Are Lightroom and Photoshop properly updated and use the same RAW settings? Provide more info.

  • Reading Camera Raw Format

I'm a user of Lightroom 5 and Photoshop CS6 runiing the current version of each.  I signed up for Creative Cloud and have downloaded and installed Photoshop CC.  I have not downloaded and installed Lightroom from CC as I understand it is the exact same product as the standalone version.
My question is - everytime I take a photo (DNG) from Lightroom and click to edit it in Photoshop CC - Photoshop CC opens a dialog box that says 'Reading Camera Raw Format'  That didn't happen when I opened images in CS6.  What causes this and how do I fix it?
I have checked with a friend who also converted to Photoshop CC and he does not get that dialog (he is running Windows and I'm on a Mac)?

Since you say you are up-to-date with LR an PS, this suggests you are using LR 5.2 and PS-CC/ACR 8.2.
Whenever the versions of LR and ACR are compatible, then LR tells PS to open the raw file using LR’s settings, and PS uses the ACR plug-in to open the raw file with those settings.
The message occurs when the time it takes to render the raw file on the way into PS longer than a certain amount of time.
If your LR and CS6-ACR were up-to-date and you weren’t seeing the message, then perhaps something was slightly faster with those two products, and the message wasn’t displayed, or perhaps PS-CC’s time-limit for showing that message was made a shorter amount of time.
If your LR and CS6-ACR weren’t synchronized in their versions (e.g. LR 5.2 and CS6-ACF 7.1) then LR could have been rendering the file as a TIF or PSD so PS isn’t using ACR to render the file.
As far as LR-non-CC and LR-CC being the same.  They operate on images files the same, the real difference will occur with LR 6, which you won’t have to pay extra for if you’re using the CC version.
There isn’t any reason to download and install LR-CC 5.2 when you already have the regular LR 5.2, but once LR 5.3 comes out, you might as well let CC download and install it, so you won’t have to worry about it, later.  It may be that you’ll have to uninstall LR non-CC 5.2, but perhaps that has been changed in recent updates of the CC Manager app or will be when LR 5.3 is release in the next few weeks.

  • Photoshop CS5 64 bit crashes at launch, save as, and when opening photos from Lightroom.

I have had this problem intermittently for years with different versions and different computers, but this time it is not going away.  I need to use the 64 bit version for large files, but it keeps crashing in several different ways.
1- I open the program from the desktop.  It shows the spash screen, shows the workspace for a couple of seconds, and then crashes with the message:

I am using the latest version.
My video card drivers are totally up to date.
I am using a decent computer with 16 gig of ram.
I am opening the program as an administrator.
I have reset the prefrences too many times to count by deleting the prefrences and holding down ctrl+alt+shift at startup.
2- If by some wild stretch of the imagination I get the program to start with totally cleared prefrences and running as administrator then the program will crash about 75% of the time when using "Save As".
If I try to do anything special like create a new folder to put the file into then the chances of a crash increase greatly.
3- If I try to open up a file from Lightroom, even if the files are opening every other way, Photoshop will crash very often.
What is going on here?  I have made no changes to my computer, have not installed any new programs, and, as I stated earlier, have everything updated.  I even stopped using plugins a long time ago because I did not want to take the chance that it was going to cause this fragile program to crash, so all plugins are uninstalled.  Why does this keep happening?  When this has happened before everything will work fine for months and then suddenly I cannot get the program to open.  When it does open again, for seemingly as unknown a reason as when it stopped, it will work anywhere from a few minutes to another couple of months.
This seems to be a problem that tons of people have, but I have not been able to find any answer other than "Delete Settings" or "Run as Administrator" or "Update *****."
What can I do to keep this from happening and to fix it when it happens?

    Update - Problem Solved.
The problem turned out to be with with Avast.  I found other people that were having the same problem with Outlook and they pointed to this problem.  The live scripts protection seems to have been causing the crash on startup.  Why it was intermittant at first and got worse I have no idea, but since disabling Avast temporarily while starting I have not had the problem again.  Now I am just going to have to start shopping for more Photoshop friendly antivirus software.
Thank you for the advice Mylenium, unfortunately (or actually fortunately for me) I did not have any 64 bit conflicts.
The other action that I took was to remove all programs installed since the problem started.  This did not fix the problem but it certainly cannot hurt to keep everything that I am not using off the computer anyways.

  • Photoshop CS3 lauches but does not open files from Lightroom 2.7

These programs have been on my computer since the dawn of time and have always worked. Now all of a sudden I can't open files from LR into PS. PS launches, but the files don't open. I get that message Photoshop could not be lauched, which is ironic since the program is now open.
I haven't done anything to the programs so it makes no sense. IN the past I have had issues with PS and the tech had me create a new login on my computer and it fixed things. Tried that. No help.
Does anyone ahve any suggestions. I have repaired both programs to no avail.
    Thanks for you help.

Something has gone wrong with how Lightroom finds and communicates with Photoshop.
That could be a registry string, or some preference within Lightroom.
The Lightroom forum is more likely to be able to help you solve this.

  • Problem with 9.3 Reader when opening files from internet

I keep receiving the message 'There is a problem with Adobe/Acrobat Reader.  Please exit Adobe Acrobat/Reader and try again' when trying to open come files on the internet.  I am able to open files from my hard drive and some files from the internet.  I have uninstalled and re-installed Reader, but get same result.  Any ideas?

As I posted on Feb. 19 this is what works for me.  OS is Windows 7 64-bit, AdoveReader 9.3.1., IE8.
    Open Adobe Reader,
                go to edit menu,
                under Preferences
go to Internet, uncheck "Display pdf in browser"
The pdf files then open, but not in the browser
or if you have Google tool bar installed:
    On the Google tool bar
click on the options icon (a wrench)
                            go to Tools
                            scroll down to the bottom
                            uncheck Translate
Or uninstall the Google tool bar.
Pdf files open without a problem in Firefox.
All of these solutions are easy.
    Good luck,

  • Camera Raw changes dimensions of file from 3:4 to 2:3!

    Hi,
I take photos in raw and jpeg. My raw files have the dimensions 3:4 and jpeg have 2:3. However when I use camera raw, the dimension of the raw file is changed to2:3 which causes me to loose part of the picture. If I save the raw file to tif and open in elements I get 3:4 but then I can not edit in Camera raw!
Has anyone got the same issue? I have a canon powershot g12 and photoshop elements 11.
    Lisa

I’ve not come across this but if you are shooting Raw+jpeg try an experiment by switching to RAW only. See if that makes a difference.
Raw files contain an embedded jpeg in order that they may be viewed on the camera LCD screen and if you are using a different aspect ratio for the jpegs; this may be causing some conflict in the RAW header.

  • Photoshop CS4 error since Mavericks when open file from Server: "file is empty"

Since I upgraded to Mavericks I can't open files directly from a Server (smb://..), it says "file is empty". When I copy the PSD file to my local drive I can open it though. I tried already to remove the server and reconnect. I'm using the CS4. Any idea how to fix that?

    My solution from another thread:-
Hello - I recently upgraded to Mavericks and have experienced a number of problems, one of which matches yours, and after some experimentation found a solution.
Like you, whenever I tried to open a file held on the server in any Adobe software, I would get an error that the file is empty. However, if I copied the file to my desktop, it would open without issue. i then noticed that the server name, which has a space in it, had %20 instead of a space, which drew me to the conclusion that Mavericks was reading the server incorrectly. I ejected the mounted server icons, and then click 'Go', 'Connect to Server', and reconnected. The server reconnected (and this time that space was restored) and I could open all of my files without issue.
    Hope this helps

  • Photoshop CS5 - win 7 - 8.1 64 bit - Lag to open files from lan

    Hello,
we have got a problem with photoshop. If we open a file from lan, photoshop wait some seconds before open it, even with very little pics. It has a lag of some seconds before start to open it. With local files is the same.
If I erase the recent files list and then I try to open a local file, it opens immediately. If I open a lan file and then I open a local file, the problem returns.
It looks like a recent file list problem. I tried to set it to 0 but nothing changes, because it save the recent list anyway but simply it doesn't show it.
I tried to disable the suitcase extensis plug-in (the only plug-in we have added), I tried to disable kaspersky antivirus, but nothing.
We have this problem with all 3 workstations, 2 with win 7 64bit and one with win 8.1 64 bit. With the older station the lag is bigger (5-10 seconds for every image). With the newest station 1 sec.
    Is there any solution?
Is there anything to do for stop the recent file list to work?
    Thanks a lot
    Nicola

Are they on the same router are there different OS,  adapter speeds file system involved.  On my home network where my windows machine are connected to the same router with 1GHz ethernet a 20MB CR2 file takes only a second or two open in ACR.

  • Troubles opening files from Lightroom 5.3 to Photoshop sinds update.

I did the update to Lightroom 5.3 and i use Photoshop 13.0.6.
When i open an image from lightroom into Photoshop i always get the undeveloped image. How can i get the developped image into photoshop?

    I have the same problem.
    Further symptoms:
    - When opening the image as SmartObject in PS CC the slide for e.g. brightness can be moved. When moving the focus to an other slider, the previous changed values (brightness) is reset to 0.
    - it seems that the auto lens correction in LR5 causes the problem sometimes
I found out a workaround which seems to work:
    - close an app:
First I thought it was "Parallels" running. I quit Parallels and everything works fine. Next time the problem occured "Parallels" was not running. So I quit the app "Textwrangler". It solved the problem again. Yesterday I solved it quitting the MacOs-build in "Mail" app, because it was the only other app that was running.
If someone can tell me how the files are exactly taken to Photoshop CC from Lightroom I probably can search for reasons of this behavior.
    Any ideas?
Hope my workaround helps you too.
    Regards,
    Knut

  • Why no Read Only / Edit prompt when opening document from a hyperlink (link)?

I have a page that I've added hyperlinks to that point to documents in a document library.
If I click on a link to an Excel file, it doesn't give me the Read Only / Edit option. Instead, I get Open/Save/Cancel, and if I open it, I can't save it to the doc library, because it's
    opened as Read Only.
On the same page, I have a link to a Word file to the SAME doc library. I still only get Open/Save/Cancel, but I can save - and it can overwrite the existing file on SharePoint. This is not ideal, but works.
What I'd like is to be able to link to a document from anywhere and have it open the Read Only / Edit prompt.
I've read elsewhere that this is a client issue, but I can't find the resolution.

    Hi Ben,
    Try this:
Quit all Office programs that are running.
    Click
    Start, click
    Run, type regedit in the
    Open box, and then click
    OK.
Locate and then right-click the following registry subkey:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\<version_number>\Common\Internet
Note In this subkey, <version_number> corresponds to 10-15 for the specific Office version that is installed.
    Point to
    New, and then click
    DWORD Value.
Type OpenDocumentsReadWriteWhileBrowsing, and then press ENTER.
    Right-click
    OpenDocumentsReadWriteWhileBrowsing, and then click
    Modify.
    In the
Value data box, type 1, and then click
    OK.
    On the
    File menu, click
    Exit to quit Registry Editor.
It will force to open all office files from Internet in Edit mode

  • Photoshop CS6 not opening files from Lightroom 5.6

On my mac I updated to Lightroom 5.6. Now it will not open the file in Photoshop CS6 using the "Edit it Photoshop" option. Anyone know how to work around this? I do not want to "render in lightroom" each time. Thanks!

There used to be a weird bug where this didn't work when there was an accented character (like ø, ä, etc.) somewhere in the path to the file, in the filename itself or in the metadata, the file simply wouldn't open in CS3. Don't know if that ever was fixed, but might be something to check.

  • Reading Camera raw progress

I have two computers - 1 a MAcBook Pro running CS5, the other a PC on Windows 7 running CS4.  IN BOTH CASES I am having trouble processing Raw
photogrpahs, once they have been touched once, the first time I opena file it seems OK.  What happens is a notice comes up saying Reading Camera Raw Preferences, and from then on everything runs slowly or not at all.  I have tried resetting the preferences and re installing Photoshop CS5 on the Masc - all to no avail.

Ah, thanks for that info, Jeff.
It seems possible, ajheddfan50, that you had somehow specified a huge image size in the Custom Crop menu, then the image upon cropping would be upsampled to that huge size.
An overall Photoshop preferences reset would clear such a condition, I think.

  • Why does my photo look normal in Adobe RAW, but when opened in CS6 it becomes strongly color banded

Had this problem once before, but uninstalled all my Nikon viewing etc software and it cleared up. Haven't changed anything since then, but it just started doing it again. Photo looks normal in Adobe camera raw, but when opened from there into CS6 it becomes highly color banded and cartoonish looking. On some pictures it's only happening in the brighter, highlight areas, in others the whole picture is affected. I'm using a high end Alienware computer and didn't have any issues for about the first year, my graphics card drivers are up to date, will check on monitor drivers next I guess.

    What are your Color Settings?
Please provide screenshots to illustrate the issue and set the Status Bar or Info Panel to display the Document Profile.

  • I re-downloaded my Photoshop recently and Adobe Bridge no longer displays my Nikon NEF files and Camera Raw will not open them.

I re-downloaded my Photoshop recently and Adobe Bridge no longer displays my Nikon NEF files and Camera Raw will not open them.  I get a message saying that Camera Raw does not support my camera type but it always has in the past.  The bridge no longer shows the picture view of my NEF files.  These are Nikon NEF files from the Nikon 5100 DSLR camera.  How do I fix this?

I re-downloaded my Photoshop recently and Adobe Bridge no longer displays my Nikon NEF files and Camera Raw will not open them.  I get a message saying that Camera Raw does not support my camera type but it always has in the past.
When you re-installed Photoshop, you also re-installed the version of Camera Raw which shipped with Photoshop - in other words you reverted to an older version of Camera Raw which does not support the D5100.
Camera Raw plug-in | Supported cameras
The D5100 was first supported in Camera Raw version 6.4.
In Photoshop, click Help > Updates to update Camera Raw.

  • Since installing Photoshop CC I can't access Camera Raw from the program Bridge.

Since installing Photoshop CC I can't access Camera Raw from the program Bridge.  When I try, I get a message that says, "Camera Raw editing is not enabled. Camera Raw editing requires that a qualifying product has been launched at least once to enable this feature."  Is Photoshop CC a qualifying product?  It has been opened a number of times, but it doesn't solve this problem.

I am having this exact same problem and just upgraded to Windows 7...many people are saying to update the Plug In for Camera Raw to 4.6, but that is not working for me to see it in Bridge or Camera Raw.
