Photoshop CC / Nikon Coolscan V ED compatibility in Windows 7 64 bit.

I managed to install a Nikon Coolscan V ED slide scanner in Windows 7 64 bit by first installing Vuescan, then Nikon Scan, but disallowing the installation of Nikon Scan drivers. Photoshop 7 sees the scanner in the file/import menu and previews, scans, and imports properly. Photoshop CC does not see the scanner. What is going on here, and is it possible to employ Photoshop CC with this scanner?  (Both Photoshop 7 and Photoshop CC see another Mustek flatbed scanner attached to the system,)

Thank you for your response. Don't know exactly what the Vuescan installation did other than install a Vuescan driver for the scanner. Photoshop 7 shows the file/import entries: PDF Image..., Vuescan, SE A3 USB 1200 Pro..., SE A3 USB 1200 Pro_Network..., Nikon Scan 4.0..., Vuescan TWAIN..., WIA-ScanExpess A3 USB 600/1200 P..., and WIA Support.... Photoshop CC shows the entries: Frames to Layers..., Vuescan, and WIA Support.... I don't know how to interpret all these entries.
I take it that I could be running a 32 bit version of Photoshop CC instead of a 64 bit version, and that that might render the scanner visible. How does one download the 32 bit version? What practical disadvantages, if any, would there be in running  a 32 bit version in preference to the 64 bit version?

  • Does Photoshop CS5, Elements 8 and Lightroom 3 support Windows 7 64 bit Home Edition?

Does Photoshop CS5, Elements 8 and Lightroom 3 support Windows 7 64 bit Home Edition?  Any issue installing these products on a new PC when I already have it installed on another PC?  I am getting a new PC to replace XP machine I already have.

Yes, Photoshop runs on all editions of Windows 7 as far as I know.
And the Photoshop EULA does give you the option to install and activate the software on a second machine.  Once you no longer need the XP system, assuming it's still functional, just deactivate the Adobe software on it and you'll be able to have the same flexibility again in the future.
If ever you have a licensing agreement question, all the EULAs are online here:
    http://www.adobe.com/products/eulas/
A side note:  Windows Home Premium may do all you need for now, but keep in mind there is a Windows Anytime Upgrade you can buy in the future that will allow you to move up to a higher edition of Windows 7 later if you should feel you need more features.
This page has some information on that, and also describes the edition differences pretty thoroughly.  I especially like the nice table they've built:

  • Can PhotoShop Elements Version 1 be installed on a Windows 7 64-bit computer?

I have been running Photoshop Elements Version 1 on a Windows XP machine.  I have a new Acer desktop pc running Windows 7 64-bit.  I am trying to install this old PhotoShop Elements V1 program from the original installation CD and as soon as I select "US English" and click "Next" I get a brief hourglass as if it is proceeding with the installation, but nothing happens and no message about failure comes back ... it is just as if I never put in the CD.   Is this ancient version of PE even compatible?

Its very old version of PSE, Its not compatible with Win 7.

    Hi All,
Can some one please let me know whether Adobe PhotoShop 7.0 of version 7 is compatible on Windows 7 64bit Operating System.

    Hi,
Ps 7 should work on windows 7 as long as your hard drive free space is under 1TB.

  • Premier pro 5.5 not compatable with windows 7 64 bit

I have recently spent over 3.5 hours on the phone live only to be told they can't fix the problem of Premier pro shutting down in Windows 7 64bit every time I try to open it.
I was told to install Pro 4.  I have pro 4 and that is why I bought 5.5  Now I can't get pro 4 to work either it also is shutting down.  Has anyone had the problem.  I believe Adobe has left me hanging after spending 495.

I was finally luckey enough to get a tech on the phone.  To get the tech I had to call sales and explain what was happening , that the 800-833 6687 would get me to choice 2 for tech help and then hang  up.  This happened yesterday 10-28-2011 roughly 18 times.  The sales person was kind enough to stay on the phone and verify what I was saying and go through the connections and get me to a tech who knew what he was doing and take the time to do it.  It took roughly 1hour and 30 minutes to determine that the video card was the problem.  The adobe site lists my card and compatable with the suite.  I took the machine to Best Buy tech
and tried to show him the problem and the system worked.  I recreated the scene at home and found the difference was that BB was using only one monitor.  Premier Pro 5.5 is the only part of the suite that will not work with dual monitors.  For 3 days I have spent countless hours and exausted patience only to solve the problem myself.  So much for Adobe tech help.

  • Is Flash Player 11.7.700.224 really compatable with Windows Vista 64-bit?

I ask this question because under System Requirements, Window Vista 64-bit isn't listed.  I've inserted the link for the system requirements below...
    http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/tech-specs.html
I'm trying to figure why my Flash Player disappears from time to time when I'm watching a clip/video and then my Internet Explorer 9 typically stops working, it closes down, and then it opens up and asks me if I want to restore the browsing session.  I'm thinking that this has to do with having both Internet Explorer 9 32-bit and 64-bit.  I read online that Internet Explorer 9 has both and this is why I'm questioning whether Flash Player 11.7.700.224 might be contributing to this issue or was Window Vista 64-bit left off the system requirements in error?
    Thanks!

  • Captivate 5.5 compatibility with Windows 7 64 bit

My laptop's operating system is being changed from Windows XP to Windows 7.  Prior to performing this upgrade, I confirmed with adobe that Captivate 5.5 is compatible with windows 7.  My tech is now having issues getting it installed.  It shows that it is installed, however it does not show up as a program available for me to choose.  Is 5.5 really compatible with Windows 7, and if so does it only work with 32 bit or does it work with both 32 and 64?  If it works with both, are there any suggestions on how to resolve this issue?

I can personally verify that Captivate 5.5 DOES definitely work on Windows 7 64bit OS.  I have it on my own PC laptop, and I have a colleague with it on his 64bit laptop as well.  I had it on a 32 bit desktop Win7 PC at my last client.
So your issue is probably due to something else.
My suggestion would be to ask your Tech person whether they have followed the recommended installation instructions for Captivate on Win7.
Setting up your computer to work with Captivate | Infosemantics Pty Ltd
It's quite possible that he's trying to install it with default locations pointing to virtual server folders or using roaming profiles etc, which Captivate does not like.  You also need to launch Captivate with Run As Administrator privileges on Win7.

  • Photoshop cs6 install administrator error - Windows 7 64-bit

I have attempted installation of Photoshop CS6 repeatedly following a fresh installation of Windows 7 64-bit.  Initially running into the error stating Administrator Rights is required to run this upgrade image, I forced it to Run as Administrator.
I forced the installer to verify my Adobe ID at the "Sign In Required" page by selecting "Not your Adobe ID?), then entering my email address and password.
Following selection of both Adobe Photoshop CS6 (64Bit) and Adobe Photoshop CS6 (32Bit), and clicking Install, I receive the error:
    Setup.exe - Application Error
The application was unable to start correctly (0xc000007b).  Click OK to close the application
Once I click OK, the persistent Administrator error appears:
"Administrator privileges are required in install.  Please log in as an administrator."  I already am logged in as an administrator on this system.
Any solutions to these errors?  I have successfully installed, and ran, Photoshop CS6 on this system (as recently as 3 days ago, before the need to perform the total system wipe, and Windows 7 reinstall)

that's a microsoft error message which can have a number of causes and solutions.

  • ELEMENTS 10 & NIKON COOLSCAN V

Will Photoshop Elements 10 download images from a Nikon Coolscan V scanner?

In Elements 10, you’ll need to copy the Adobe TWAIN driver (Twain_32.8ba), if your scanner requires it, from the optional plug-ins folder to the Import-Export folder in the main plug-ins folder.
You will need to copy the plug-in Twain_32.8ba
    Copy from:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 10\Optional Plug-Ins\Import-Export
    Copy to:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 10\Locales\en_US\Plug-Ins\Import-Export.
N.B. on Windows 32 bit navigate to Program Files. Replace en_US with your own system location if necessary.

  • Nikon Coolscan 4000

I am using PS CS5 Extended 64 bit  with WIN 7 64 bit and would like to be able to import scans from a Nikon Coolscan 4000. The scanner works in WIN 7 independently of CS5 however it does not appear in CS5's import panel of devices under WIA. Is there a way to make the scanner known to CS5?

I'll just add that I believe the optional TWAIN plug-in is only available for Photoshop 32 bit, so you'll have to use the 32 bit version if you do go this route.
Both 32 and 64 bit versions of Photoshop are typically installed on a 64 bit Windows system.

  • Nikon Coolscan  5000 slide scanner - not supported since 10.5.5

Shortly after buying my Mac Pro and installing 10.5.5 my Nikon Coolscan 5000 slide and film scanner won't scan and save files. Apple have said it's a Nikon problem and Nikon have no plan to produce an update. I was just told to buy SilverFast instead which may work, but will cost £400 first to buy.
Any other work arounds with Photoshop Elements or another program? I have a slide feeder which will take up to 50 slides at a time. Any software suggestions which will allow this. My PC is much slower than my Mac, so would save me hours of time doing it on my Mac
    Many thanks

    HI,
You posted in the Leopard forum but you installed 10.5.5 and your profile indicates you are running 10.6.2 That's a might confusing....
In any case, try reinstalling the drivers (sofware) that came with your scanner then repair disk permissions.
Quit any open applications/programs. Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.

  • Reference: Elements 10 / Nikon Coolscan V ED

It is with interest that I have read the recent discussion.  I purchased a new PC with Windows 7, only to find Nikon are not supporting Coolscan V ED anymore, so I have not bothered to install the drivers.  Asking around, it is not recommended to install any of the third party software, as they are no better than using the original Nikon driver.  Any views?  Perhaps I will then start looking to install software, so that I can use what is still an excellent piece of equipment, with my not so excellent negatives and slides.

    Hi,
As you have pointed out, unfortunately, the Nikon Coolscan V ED is not compatible with Windows 7 32-bit or 64-bit as we can see from the Windows 7 Compatibility Center.
However, for your convenience, I have done some research and you may want to defer to the following thread from the Microsoft TechNet Forums as a few members within the thread did seem to find a workable solution by utilizing a virtual environment via Windows XP Mode and Windows Virtual PC. The thread can be found here.
Windows XP Mode creates a virtual computer system inside Windows 7 which runs a full version of Windows XP Professional 32 bit. This 32 bit environment, in some cases, can be used to directly access hardware which would otherwise be incompatible with Windows 7. You can accomplish this by directly connecting a USB device to Windows XP using the attach function found in the options for the Windows XP virtual machine.
Upon configuring Windows XP Mode with Windows Virtual PC, you will likely have to click the USB tab on the XP menu bar, and then click ATTACH.

  • Nikon Coolscan LS 2000 won't be recognized bij Classic

When I want to work in Classic the Nikon LS 2000 scanner won't be recognized under Photoshop 6.(it has a SCSI-connection; the Umax-scanner has a USB and is recognized for sure). Is there any solution for this problem(Nikon says not, but I wont give up) I tried Vuescan but I don't like the program because its totally different. Anyone??

Take a look at the Nikon Coolscan User's Group Discussion
    http://www.flickr.com/groups/74221125@N00/discuss/72157624196874277
Two options that you might find useful are Silverfast http://www.silverfast.com/show/scanners-nikon/en.html and VueScan http://www.hamrick.com/
    Silverfast will handle dust removal.
Silverfast is somewhat expensive, and VueScan is under $100.
