Photoshop CC on Ativ Book 8

I recently purchased a Samsung Ativ Book 8 which features a Radeon HD 8770M GPU. I'm getting quite a bit of lag with OpenGL rendering turned on in Photoshop CC (without it runs fine), so I am wondering if anyone else has good or bad experiences with this GPU or similar Radeon mobile GPUs. I'm using the latest drivers on Windows 8 64 bit.

Hi Rfrazao,
To begin with, can you please try and disable the Graphics Card that you have. This should transfer the display to onboard graphics and your font size would become big. Post this, can you please try and launch Photoshop again?
If it works fine, that would mean that there is an issue with the Graphics card driver and that needs to be updated.

Each version of Adobe products builds upon the previous ones. Some things like filters and advanced features may evolve or become deprecated over time, but the basic tools have remained pretty much the same for decades. As long as you know there are subtle differences between versions, I think you will still get a great deal of value from C in a B for CS6.

Samsung Ativ Book 9 Plus 8GB i7 Core ultrabook, when?

When will Best Buy offer the Samsung Ativ Book 9 Plus with 8GB Memory, 256 SSD, i7 Core processor?
Samsung released it not too long ago, but I only see the one with 4GB, 128 SSD, and i5 Core processor on the Best Buy website.

There is not that much activity here..
I had some more time today to try fix the problem, I got some more data from dmesg that can be seen here:

I am not sure that it is wise to disable ehci_hcd, but I found in the comment that one had a problem whit his webcam that is loaded by both ehci_hcd and uhci_hcd and therefore is switching between connected and disconnected, I am not sure about what is going on with my problem so some tips or help would be great
UPDATE:
If I run
# modprobe -r xhci_hcd
then the messages stop

Photoshop Elements 7 tutorial book recommendation

Hi - I'm looking for a recommendation for a practical, how-to book for Photoshop Elements 7. I am new to the software and have purchased a book which is pretty good but it's still too much like a technical manual. Two books by Avi Muchnick, "When Pancakes Go Bad: Optical Delusions with Adobe Photoshop" and "I've Got a Human in My Throat: MORE Optical Delusions with Adobe Photoshop" teach how to use the software in a practical fashion using fun projects - not just telling me what each function does as most technical manuals do. The sample images are also included so that the user can work along with the book making it a truly a hands-on experience which is what I want. I'm told that most of what is in these books applies to PE7. I have two questions:
1. If anyone has used either of these books, how well did you think they related to PE7?
2. What other book would someone recommend as a good hands-on PE7 tutorial? I do not have a very fast internet connection so, for now, I would prefer to learn using a book with software if possible. However, I know there is a wealth of good on-line tutorials out there so any recommendations for those would also be appreciated.

I have used "How to Cheat in Photoshop Elements 7" and found it interesting.
But you can find lot of stuff online specific to your requirement.... Usually I prefer to read PSE blogs or online tutorials whenever I have any specific requirement in terms of Editing....

hello. newby here. can anyone recommend a good Photoshop Elements online "tutorial" or "book" that I can purchase to learn the "ins & outs" of PSE5.0? I'm not that tech savvy, but I do have enough knowledge to tool around PSE making fixes here and there using clone, brush, etc. I just can not find an efficient way to learn all about file specs, batching, converting to, etc. any help would be greatly appreciated. thank you!

You should take a look at www.lynda.com. They made al lot of courses also about photoshop elements. I don't know if PSE 5.0 is still available, but you can always check. If i am right you can also see what the content is of the course. I watched a few of these courses and i think it's very good.

Photoshop "Classroom In a Book"

I have finished all the lessons in this book. I would like to start over from the beginning. Can I delete the PSE11 CIB file under my documents
and will that get rid of all the lessons and pictures. Then can I reinstall the PSE11CIB cd that came with the book?

the book i have does not state which edition it is. But as you can see, i found the file, it was just mislabeled. i osted this just in case someone else has the same problem.

"Photoshop classroom in a book" chapter 12 wine glass disappears after 3D layer merging. the object didnt disappear it is just smaller, it is labeled objmesh is the 3D panel.

you can select the objmesh layer in the 3D panel and scale the image up to see the wine glass. It took me a wfhile to think of this because the book does not tell you to rename the wine glass file when you import it. So if you are looking or the words Wine, or Glass, or both you will not find them. Once again the Wine Glass layer is labled "objmesh"

Can't make photoshop droplets w/ Mac Book Pro.

I was going to re-do my actions and droplet sets for my MacBook Pro yesterday since it has a new destination disk and got a big surprise. While I could do my actions OK, all I get when I build a droplet off of it is the icon and grey and white circle slash on it, no working droplet. If I try to put the image into it, it just plops on the desktop. This is w/ CS2. I tried saving them in various places and no go.

Problem solved. When naming the droplet in the where to save dialog, make you you put a .app at the end of it.
Now works perfect.

Photoshop Elements 9 -Contact Book does not allow me to add new contacts.

I am using PS Elements 9. I added 17 new contacts when I first used it but now it won't save any new contact information. So any new people I want to email from within PS9 I can't. Anyone know why this happens and how can it be fixed. Any help appreciated.

It should be working, how are you trying to do it?
On the top menu of Organizer click on Edit >>Contact Book
Click New Contact
Enter details and click OK
Select photos, click Share >>Photomail
Your new contact should show up in the list and you can add a checkmark and click next etc.

How do I take my Photoshop Elements 11 photo book and get it printed at Shutterfly or similar?

I have just spend 40 hours working on a beautiful photo book and I cannot find how to send it to Shutterfly for printing. I selected the Shutterfly option when i started the book, and thought there would be a simple "upload and print" command somewhere. I can't find any help for this on line.

While you are in the edit mode of your photobook, you should see three buttons along the bottom: Order, Save, and Close. Clicking Order will send the book to Shutterfly for printing.

CS4 Photoshop Classroom in a book Question.

Hello, Could someone please explain this to me as am having trouble understanding this. I have bought the above and I am on pages 19 - 21 of the book. I have followed instructions accordingly with reference selecting the headlight - and then inverting the selection so that everything is selected apart from the headlight.
The book wants me to spotlight the headlight and as its says "you'll want to darken the rest of the image, not the area inside," which would be my current selection using the instructions the book gave me above to select the headlight and then invert it.
I then have to go to the curves panel and then drag the control point from the upper right corner to the the left so the values read input - 204 output -255.
The book then says that the highlights are brightened in the selected area which to me would be everything outside the headlight as the selection is inverted, and I can see this when I do as requested this is the case.
I know I am probably being silly but I thought the point was to "darken the rest of the image," not the headlight in order to highlight it. What am I not understanding or am I overthinking it. Can someone please explain this to me?

Depending on which print run of the book, there may be errors in the documentation, or in the supplied files.
Look in the book for a link to the book's site at the publisher, and when you get there, look for errata, corrections, and new downloadable files.
One other cause of your text shifting problems may be that your fonts are not the exact same ones used in the sample files - perhaps an older version with the same name and identifiers.

ATIV Book 9 Plus no longer seeing HDMI output -

So I booted up my laptop today after the weekend, plugged in my HDMI cable, and the monitor wasn't getting recognized. I've tried unplugging it and plugging it in again, booting up with the cable plugged in, downgrading both xorg-server and xf86-video-intel, all to no avail - no matter what I do, there's no HDMI1 output in xrandr.

Have you been able to use the Mac Mini directly attached to the plasma/LCD/projector with out going through the Denon AVR? Even with 10.9.3 installed?
I have a Pioneer AVR and I have the Mac attached via a HDMI to HDMI and all is working for me. Can your Denon do some upscaling? Some AVR, like my VSX-53 can change the scaling of the input video. Meaning if I still had my Apple TV 2 which outputs 720P only, can be upscaled in my AVR to 1080i or 1080P or even 24fps. Heck, I could even plug in an old style Red, White, Yellow cable and upscale it to 1080P and output it HDMI.
I am wondering if your Denon is able to do that and it might be set wrong. Check the owners manual for such settings. Even the plasma/LCD/project could be doing the upscaling too. So check that too.

This may be preaching to the choir but here are some tips on using PS or PSE from within iPhoto as the external editor:
Using Photoshop or Photoshop Elements as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop or Photoshop Elememts as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop. When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window
that indicates that PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file. You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
NOTE: With Photoshop Elements the Saving File preferences should be configured as shown:
I also suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always. In PSE’s General preference pane set the Color Picker to Apple as shown:

Note: to switch between iPhoto and PS or PSE as the editor of choice Control (right)-click on the thumbnail and select either Edit in iPhoto or Edit in External Editor from the contextual menu. If you use iPhoto to edit more than PSE re-select iPhoto in the iPhoto General preference pane. Then iPhoto will be the default editor and you can use the contextual menu to select PSE for your editor when desired.
