Photoshop CC only detects Intel GPU instead of AMD Radeon (Win8)
Hi,
I am running a pc with Win 8 and Intel i7-3630QM CPU.
On my system I am running 2 Video Cards, both Intel HD Graphics 4000 and AMD Radeon HD 7670M.
I set my switchable cards to high performance when using photoshop.exe, but when I check in PS Preferences, the detected Graphic Processor is Intel HD 4000.
How can I set my AMD radeon for higher performances?
Thanks
Cecilia
With dual-GPU's, it is often necessary to disable the Intel GPU, usually in the computer's BIOS.
Many laptops have dual GPU's, to allow them to run with low power consumption (on the Intel), and then they automatically switch to the AMD/ATI, or nVidia GPU, depending on which chip is installed, for more graphically intensive work. That often works well, but not in all cases. In most of those anomaly instances, the switching in the BIOS takes care of the issue - inconvenient? Yes, but often necessary. Some users have had good results by disabling the Intel in the OS's Control Panel, rather than at the hardware level with the BIOS.
Good luck,
Hunt

Photoshop CS6 only utilize Intel Graphics after NVIDIA upgrade
Hey
After I upgraded the NVIDIA drivers (320.49) on a laptop with a geforce GT540M card,
photoshop now only displays the graphic device built in on the mainboard, the default
intel 3000. (im in preferences>performance>graphics processor settings)
How to get this to work and have PS utilize the proper graphics card?
Please don't reply "contact nvidia" because they say contact adobe. And
PS is the only software having problems after the upgrade, so I consider
this a PS problem.
Windows 8 + Photoshop Cs6 x64If anyone have the same problem:
I finally figured this out, I had to right click on the PS icon and select
Run with graphics processor>High Performance NVIDIA
And set this as the default card to use. Now it works as it should again, thank god! -
New Machine in Mar 2011. OS version 10.6.8
All software updates installed via Automatic update.
Screen has a 'solarized' look on start up, which disappears after about 30 mins, suggesting a 'warm up' issue?
Am aware of Nvidia issues with Macbook pro but this machine has the following graphics/display on logic board.
Does anyone have a view on this matter and a way of resolving it? Still under extended warranty.

After Effects and enabling GPU with the AMD Radeon R9 M295X
I have the new 27in iMac with an AMD Radeon R9 M295x. As far as I can tell, I am limited to CPU rendering in After Effects.
I keep reading that GPU is available as long as I don't need CUDA and nVidia for Ray Tracing.
As it is, I'm only seeing CPU available. GPU is grayed out.Show a screenshot of exactly what you're seeing that has you concerned. From your brief description, it seems that everything is functioning normally.

HP Pavilion p7-1534 Desktop, OS windows 8, My problem is that i can not play games with out them blurring and or freezing and going. And i updated the drivers to see if that would solve the problem but it did not. I did diagnostic on the GPU but it said it was OK. I tried lower game settings it still does it. I am using the onboard GPU to play games and it is AMD Radeon HD 7560D Graphics. My CPU is AMD A8-5500 APU.

Is it possible to crossfire intel HD graphics with amd radeon?
Hi,
I installed Win 8.1 on my Lenovo G510, after installing drivers i noticed that there are 2 graphic cards in the "Device Manager" (see below). I want to know is it possible to crossfire these 2 cards, if yes, how? And if no, do I need to uninstall my intel HD driver?
Also, I seem to be unable to find drivers for 3.0 USB that are compatible with Win 8.1, so if you can help me with that, it would be awsome
Best regards,
epitsHello zaiplanet
As I understand it you need your graphics drivers for your HP ENVY Ultrabook 4 - 1114tx. I am linking you here to your drivers for Windows 8 64-bit. I would suggest that you start with the Chipset drivers and ensure that ALL the drivers and software is up to date.
I hope this helps resolve your Switchable Graphics issue. Thank you for posting your issue on the HP Forums. Have a great day!
Please click the "Thumbs Up" on the bottom right of this post to say thank you if you appreciate the support I provide!
Also be sure to mark my post as “Accept as Solution" if you feel my post solved your issue, it will help others who face the same challenge find the same solution.

Photoshop cs5-no video card detected in GPU settings
Running photoshop cs5 on a new iMac 27in with NVIDIA GeForce GTX 775M video card. Under performance preferences GPU settings is not detecting the card. What do i need to fix??
Same issue here.
Running the same system here with the Geforce GTX 775m. Currently running OS 10.9.5. Photoshop CC 2014 shows no GPU detected under Preferences and all video card related options are disabled. I've tried installing nVidia's web driver, but it's not compatible, unfortunately. The 10.9.5 update hasn't helped either and I haven't found any further driver update from Apple.
Is there a way to force detection or manually specify video card specs?

I bought a macbook pro non-retina with NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M, but it doesn't appear on the system profiler "About This Mac". It only shows the Intel HD Graphics 4000. How will I make NVIDIA work?
Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Your MacBook Pro switches automatically between both GPUs, and for normal use, you will see only the Intel HD Graphics 4000. When you use heavy applications, it will switch automatically to the NVIDIA GPU, so you don't have to worry about it.
If you want to check that your NVIDIA GPU is working, open System Preferences > Energy Saver, and disable the graphic card switching, so your Mac will use the NVIDIA GPU. Then, open > About this Mac > More Info, and you will see the NVIDIA GPU. Note that this GPU consumes more battery -
Photoshop cs6 has detected problem with gpu
my photoshop says it detected a problem with the GPU..However, my card seems to be working perfectly with other software and games..Should i be worried or jus ignored the message?
thank you in advanceUpdate your video card driver from the GPU maker's website to pick up all the bug fixes.

Hi, I am helping someone with getting a new laptop for PhotoShop work, and am very confused about a couple of things.
Hoping that the pros on this forum can help.
1. Dedicated Graphics card - needed or not?
If needed, AMD Radeon/FirePro (difficult to find on laptops) or Nvidia GeForce GTX 6xxM/7xxM or Quadro?
2. Suggestions on laptops with an IPS panel and wide color gamut.
Re. 1 - this is very confusing. From what I researched, the new Photoshop versions (CS6 and above) do use the GPU very effectively, and are using OpenCL rather than CUDA. Yet there are people on some forums that say that a GPU is not needed unless editing video.
My friend is not editing video - he is using Photoshop to create Digital Art. He does use all of the Photoshop features in his work. No 3D work, no video editing. The end result is Printed artwork - sometimes large prints 3 ft x 4 ft printed with geeclee on canvas/high quality paper.
Is a GPU needed, and if so is it better to get the AMD cards (Radeon most likely) that seem to completely outperform the GeForce cards in OpenCL at least?
Most of the laptops available seem to have the GTX 6xxM or 7xxM cards, and I read on one forum that the OpenCL functions are disabled on these cards. Read on another forum that it can be re-enabled with a hack. Thorougly confused. Please help.
Re. 2 - This too is confusing. Seems like an IPS panel has the best color rendition, but then they do not cover the entire color spectrum - or at least not as widely as the TN panels. If this will be the only monitor for work, is an IPS panel the best way to go or is it better to get a TN with wide gamut? Are there laptops with both - an IPS panel and a wide color gamut - without breaking the bank?
Currently the Sager/Clevo machines, and some MSI models, and ASUS models seem to be the best candidates. Had to rule out Dell Precision 6700/4700 and HP Elitebook 8770W/8570W due to price, but considering refurbished ones.
I am working with a $1200 budget with maybe some stretchability. Any advice/suggestions will be much appreciated. At the potential risk of your pretending to kick me off what you misguidedly perceive as your thread—which by the way you would have no right to do, since you do not own a thread just because you started it—I'll have a couple of comments on your original thoughts.
There's no reason to be "confused" here.
1.— Utilization of the GPU is indeed always beneficial to using recent versions of Photoshop, regardless of whether you work with video or not. Whether you "need it or not" is a different discussion.
2.— Of course it's absolutely necessary to be able to work with a monitor that has a narrower gamut than your working space or even your output target profile. In my case, for example, as I'm 99.9% concerned with high quality prints, I work exclusively in ProPhoto RGB. I'd be in a pickle if I were to restrict my work to just what I can see on any monitor regardless of how wide its gamut were.
One just has to learn how to work in Photoshop. That's what Gamut Warning and Soft Proofing are there, for example. Printers are capable of printing some colors that are not visible on any monitor.
3.— If both the video card and/or its driver fail to support Open GL and Shader Model, no "hack" on Earth can make up for it.
4.— If someone came to me for advice on a laptop on which to run Photoshop well, my main and perhaps only goal would be to dissuade that person from wasting his or her money.
I know there might be flak from some laptop users for that immediately preceding paragraph, but hopefully not as much as you're likely to get—and deservedly so—from Mac Pro users for your astonishingly uninformed comments on those machines.
One thing is having a laptop as a second machine on which to show your Photoshop work to clients and prospective clients when forced to, and another one is trying to use a laptop as one's main, working Photoshop machine.
Going to a laptop publication (which I gather the obscure, niche-market "NBR" you cite is) for information on whether to use one or not is like seeking theological religious advice about world religions from the Pope in the Vatican or the Ayatollah in Tehran.
5.— In the past I had run Photoshop on a variety of different nVidia GeForce cards with up to 512 MB of VRAM, but with Photoshop CS6's more advanced utilization of the GPU I have moved to a mutant, factory-overclocked, flashed ATI Radeon HD 5770 with 1 GB of VRAM driving side-by-side dual 22" monitors in my current desktop Mac Pro 2.66 GHz under OS X Lion 10.7.5 and I couldn't possibly be happier.
I do run my second copy of Photoshop on my Mac Book (not "Pro") laptop with its stock Intel GMA 950 video circuitry and its paltry 64 MB of shared system memory, and it works just fine for the aforementioned purposes of showing Photoshop work to others. I wouldn't want to do any editing in Photoshop on that machine other than for minor touch-ups in an emergency, however.
Lastly, I feel compelled to add that, in my opinion, basic human decency would dictate that you offer Trevor some sort of apology for your presumptuousness in asking him to leave this thread. If I hadn't already begun typing this post before you posted your #6, I might have just ignored your thread. Considering the overall anti-laptop tenor of this post, you may well wish I had. -
Error when running Stellarium with Intel GPU
I'm trying to run Stellarium on a 2009 desktop computer with an Intel GPU, but I get the following error message:

I also get extremely slow performances when running 3D game Xonotic, but I don't know if it's due to the same problem. Any suggestion? It seems that my GPU (Intel GMA 3100) is not supported anymore. See https://answers.launchpad.net/stellarium/+faq/2570: "Graphics cards which are no longer supported by Stellarium 0.13 and later include early ATI/AMD Radeon cards up to and including the Xxxx series (built 2004/05), NVidia up to GeForce FXxxx (2003/04), and Intel GMA before X3000, unfortunately also including the popular Atom-based netbooks of 2010."

can I run adobe master collection in a windows partition on a basic mbp 13" with only the intel chipset?
I want to install 16 gb ram but I don't think I can change the lack of video card. I wanted this basic machine because it has fairly long battery life. I don't need or want retina at this time. My model is the mid 2012 model. I am running the adobe collection for mac, I want to run the windows versions. Is it possible? What is the most ram I could access using something like fusion 5, assuming I could get fusion 5 to work? would it refuse to run because of the intel chipset and lack of video card?
If I'm wrong and there is a way to add a video card to this model, could some version of fusion and windows 7 access more than 2 gb operating ram?
What cost would I be incurring, and would it be cheaper to buy a windows laptop with more ram than I could access via a virtual machine?
I want to work on a client's work in the windows versions of the creative suite, with occasional usage of after effects for windows, and to use some web plug-ins only available in windows versions, and to try some windows-only video and audio software.
thanks for any suggestions. While many people have told me I can run everything on my macbook, I am concerned about what I think is a limited amount of ram that can be accessed over the virtual machine partition softwares, and I don't know if what I want to attempt is actually possible.
My mbp os is 10.8.2 on a 2.5 GHz intel core i5 4 gb 1600MHz DDR3 with 500 hard drive. the basic 13" mid 2012 machine.
I'm hoping to install 16 G of opertating ram to allow more adobe programs to run concurrently- just when I am working on the mac side.
also, off track but, for years I have wanted a small machine that is more easily portable than my 15" machines. I have only had this used machine for a few weeks, but already I have been very satisfied and used it for presentations at clients. I don't want an air because I really want the dvd burner and player. No matter what apple says about wireless, there are decades of legacy work stored on optical discs all over the world, and I don't want to be unable to open something at a client's office because I don't have a dvd drive. Additionally, I have very large files I want to transfer via ethernet or firewire so that the transfer will take less time and be more secure than wifi. I resist apple's trend to make every machine a disposable toy that is viable only a year or so. I have read reviews that label the mbp it a poor value compared to the air. If all you need to do is text and communicate via wifi, many devices will sufice, and an air is certainly the most elegant. But what about the cost of large ssd's and protecting the drive against damage from shock? I want to be able to move this thing around and the small size is much safer inside my padded bag when I sit in narrow airplane seats, crowded trains and other congested spaces. I am much more likely to be able to borrow a large screen in a client's office ( with the use of one of the three adapters I had to buy) than to be able to borrow a dvd drive that has drivers for mac os 10.8.2. I suspect this may be the last generation of machines that have optical drives and ethernet, and that was why I purchased it so that I could continue to do work into the next few years. I am impressed by the retina display, but I need long battery life. And as beautiful as the retina display is, it is even more of a problem when trying to cross platform with the windows world. I wish I could infuence apple to do a trial product flow for a machine designed to work with 80% of the business world that uses windows. How spectacular that would be. With all their expertise and adept hardware design, to create a machine that cross platforms better than a windows machine itself works? Now that would be an accomplishment. Instead of 8 or 9 percent of the total computer sales, why not aim for a higher percentage? Smart devices will keep moving toward portable computers in power, anyway.confused, bothered and bewildered wrote:

Fusion should work on your machine and if you put 16 GB of RAM in (see http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/memory/Apple_MacBook_MacBook_Pro/Upgrade/DDR3_160 0MHz_SDRAM), Fusion can access a good portion of that. Also, in a Virtual Machine, the guest OS is presented with Fusion's video card emulation, not what's in hardware on your Mac. Of course, finding Windows 7 now that Win 8 has been released could take some doing and the Win 8 Pro upgrade price is supposed to jump to $200 the end of the month. Add that to the price of Fusion and the extra RAM and you're beginning to get into the realm of low end real PC's.
As to cross platform, I assume you're aware of BootCamp (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1461). -
Is there a way to connect an old Sunflower iMac (OSX 10.4.11) to a new Time Capsule? It used to work with old Airport Extreme network, run from a intel iMac with updates thru Mavericks but now seems to only allow WEP encryption instead of WPA and can't connect to Time Capsule. Airport Extreme Base was controllable from either computer up through Snow Leopard (I didn't do any of the Lion upgrades). Then when I upgraded to Mavericks I lost the ability to use Airport Utility with this hardware on the Sunflower but could still connect wirelessly to network without any problems. But now with the Time Capsule upgrade the Sunflower is blocked from network by a dialogue that requests ony WEP password, not WPA pwd used by Time Capsule. Neither can I use the old airport extreme base to extend the time capsule network since I can't input the correct password/encryption approach to join it. Is there a work around? Would a newer but old Airport Express be able to extend network to Sunflower? Or maybe a third party wireless (such as Netgear, Dlink, etc) that has browser type control rather than special utility?
Another question--before I used MAC addresses to control who could access network. Now on Time Capsule I don't see anything about this--so is it true now that the only access control is via WPA2 pwd now (which appears to be the encryption pwd and not the time capsule pwd)?Is there a way to connect an old Sunflower iMac (OSX 10.4.11) to a new Time Capsule?
I can’t claim to completely grasp the issue(s) you’re describing, but the underlying problem is presumably your iMac’s obsolete AirPort card. Whatever the case, an obvious (if not particularly helpful) answer to your stated question would be to connect your iMac with an ethernet cable, using powerline adapters as an alternative if you don’t want to have wire running all over the place.
My still fully functional clamshell iBook, with an original AirPort card, connects wirelessly to my 4th Generation TC network by means of a cheap 802.11b/g/n USB Wi-Fi adapter. This might be an option for you too.
Another question--before I used MAC addresses to control who could access network. Now on Time Capsule I don't see anything about this
When you edit your TC's settings the access controls appear under the Network tab, don't they? -
