Photoshop CC opens - but hangs indefinitely

Photoshop starts up great, but then goes into a permanent hang, the perpetual spinning beach ball.  Have to force quit every single time.
Firstly: I have the latest version of CC and Photoshop CC installed
Secondly: I have already tried - and lost count - how many times I have uninstalled, reinstalled, used the cleaner tool, restarted....
I am at a loss and beyond frustated.  This really puts a damper productivity.
Anything else I can try?
Also have problems with After Effects, but thats for another forum...

Ha!  I would understand how that might be a slight problem! Silly me. Sorry about that.
I'm running MbPro Retina, 2.6 i7, 16GB RAM, with OSX  Mav 10.9.2.
I have stuck solely to the the Adobe installers and instructions per the CC website, etc.  Every other CC program operates as it should - it is only Photoshop that does this.
I have also not added any 3rd party items as of yet.
I can say that the stall doesn't happen until you try to use the app. So long as you don't use it, and let it sit, its fine. But something as simple as going to the menu bar screws it up.

    Hi
I actually dont think its Lion (sorry i put that as couldn't remember) as not on that computer at the moment, its at home, I am at work. I know CS2 is compatable with whatever OS I am using because I can using CS2 indesign etc and I was able to use CS2 photoshop until I updated the Camino browser (I believe this is when it stopped working). I have CS5 but it wont work at all on my Powerbook G4.
I can send a message later with the OS I am using and maybe you can suggest other help? They told me in the MAC shop to try and get the installation discs. They also said I would be able to get these via Apple's 'media replacement programme' which I cannot find anyway! To be honest, I am not even sure getting the install discs will work but I'll try whatever I need to try and get Photoshop working on it again!
    Thanks

I am having problems launching the standalone version of Lightroom 6 after I have gone through the install and activation process? Lightroom starts to open but "hangs" before any photos in the catalgue are displayed. I have contacted the chat support twice but they have not been able to fix the problem.

I went through the activation process yesterday and shut down my PC when I went to bed last evening. When I got up this morning and turned my PC on and then started Lightrom 6 (I upgraded from version 5) it started to launch but then just hung and became "not responsive". I I then uninstalled and then reinstalled the product today but the same thing happened. What is weird is that when I install from the standalone file I downloaded when I purchased the upgrade it looks like it's downloading the software again over the Internet? I have been having these problems for the last four or five days. I have contacted the chat support folks twice and they were able to get it working but whatever they did did not last as the problem reappeared again once the PC was shut down and then started up again.

  • Photoshop cc opens but then freezes!

When I run Photoshop cc it opens but once open it freezes. This is the 64bit version on Windows Vusta proffesional. I can not even quit out of it using the task manager so I have to re-start. All the other cc applications seem to be fine it is just Photoshop. The old version of Photoshop cs5 also seems to be working fine. Any ideas would be welcome. I tried the resetting mt preferences in CC by signing out and back in but this did not solve the problem.

I had my CS3 freezing this morning on startup.
What helped me was restarting Photoshop with the internet cable pulled out.
Apperently it was freezing on the registerscreen, and by removing the internet cable I surpassed that screen, to see another screen.
after that i could start it up again with the internet cable plugged in again.

  • Photoshop CS3 opens but immediately freezes every time- Windows

I'm attempting to use CS3 on a Dell laptop- 64 bit- Windows 7.
When first installed it worked fine, then suddenly it was non-functional.  It will open, but ANY request at all will cause it to freeze.  I have to close it through Task Manager.  I get no error messages, and when I went in to view the event viewer there is nothing there under Applications.
I've changed the default printer to a non-network but haven't done much else as I don't have administrative priviledges on this (work) computer and our IT guy is uninterested in helping me figure out the problem.  We tried uninstalling and reinstalling and that did nothing.
    Any help appreciated!

Run Sysinternals System Monitor and watch registry and file access as well as the various DLL hookups. Use filtering set to Photoshop.exe and Error or Failure operation to find the culprit amongst those hundreds of thousands operations. I'm sure your IT guy can help you with that if he's halfway smart...

  • Photoshop CS5 opens but without the chosen picture

After choosing a picture (jpg) in Bridge CS5 to be opened in Photoshop CS5 Photoshop is being started but keeps empty. The picture isn't opened. If I choose 5 pictures there will be opened 5 empty instances of Photoshop but no picture will be opened. I notice this behaviour since having updated to Raw 6.4.
    Any ideas? Thank you Hans-Georg

    Hi Noel,
i just tried to see a rule in what Photoshop does, but it is not always the same that happens.
First I marked 5 jpgs in Explorer an tried to open with rightclicking an choosing "open". --> Photoshop was opened and all pictures were shown. I closed Photoshop.
Second I opened Bridge and marked five jpgs and tried to open them with rightclicking and choosing open with Photoshop. --> Photoshop opened but without any picture. Photoshop keeps open...
Third I tried to open one single picture via dubbleclick in explorer.--> another Photoshop opened but without the picture.
Fourth I tried to open two PSD-files via marking and rightclicking and choosing "open". --> two other instances of Photoshop opened without pictures.
At last I tried to open 5 jpgs  via marking and rightclicking and choosing "open" (in Explorer). --> five other instances of Photoshop opened without pictures.
    so this looks strange:
    what I'm wondering about:
normally if Photoshop is already opened, every additionally clicked picture will be opened in this one Photoshop-instance.
Why does Photoshop open without opening the picture?
It drives me crazy because I have to edit a lot of pictures during the day and the usual workflow doesn't work...
Any other ideas? Thanks in advance Hans-Georg

  • Using Lightroom 5.5 When I merge to Panorama Photoshop 2014 opens but images don't load

Running on iMac running Mavericks.  Was working... sadly can't remember last time I did this.  But this is a feature I use all the time.  Have the same issue if I just try to edit in Photoshop CC.  It launches, but no image in Photoshop.  Not sure I used it since I updated Photoshop to 2014 CC.
    Any ideas would be appreciated.

I have the same issue in Windows 7.
I have tried re-installing and it does not work.
Dave Merchant's suggestion did not help because I am already up to date.
I am able to open the images via Bridge and photo merge from there.
Update:  Bridge was opening CS6. I have removed CS6 and then removed and re-installed CC 2014. This still does not work.
I also tried to use the Photomerge tool in Photoshop directly and the result is the same. Nothing happens after the files are selected.

  • Photoshop cs6 opens but is unresponsive

I can open photoshop but it does not respond to anything, not even the Ctrl key. I have a new pheonix envy and windows 8. I have only used this photoshop program for one editing project. I have tried to reset the preferences with the keyboard shortcuts but nothing happens. I cannot quit the program or close the window. The program is completely frozen everytime I open it and all I can do it restart the computer. What could be causing this? It was working before I edited some photos....

Hmmm  It's a bit tricky when you can't try anything after opening CS5.  Like disabling GPU acceleration.  It worked for a short while you say?  If Photoshop will run in Safe Mode, you'd be able to turn off GPU acceleration
    http://www.redmondpie.com/how-to-boot-into-windows-8-safe-mode/
I say this because there seem to be a lot of video driver issues with Photoshop and Windows 8. A quick Google tells me that your system has an nVidia GT640.  Go to the nVidia site and see if you have the most upto date driver.

  • Old project re-opens, but hangs system on save

When saving a project file in CS 5.0 the software hangs at the saving screen. this project was fine 2 months ago.
Using an external USB 3.0 drive for both project and media.
    HELP!!!

Ok thanks so maybe hundreds is a bit over the top, but given the time I have spent trying to resolve this issue, and if it has to be done again form scratch, yes it will probabaly clock that...
Back to the solutions you suggested:
    2) Tried to open the project inside another and even sequences but it wont locate the media, I direct them to the files then it just sits there and does nothing.
    3) I am not familiar at all with transcoding, can you suggest a workflow.
    4) re-cutting isnt an option, it worked fine one day then not the next, its a bug I ned to fix.....
I am convinced its a problem with storing the media and working from my external drives...? Again never had a problem and others work fine but not this project ?

  • After installing Photoshop, it opens but shuts down when files are opened.

Photoshop installed from CS5. After opening new document or opening an image it closes with a message saying "Adobe CS 5 has stopped working"
It has been uninstalled and re installed several times.

try resetting preferences by holding down shift-ctrl-alt (win) or shift-cmd-alt (mac) while starting ps.  you'll see a confirmation dialog if done correctly.
if that fails uninstall, clean and reinstall per, Use the CC Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems | CC, CS3-CS6

  • Safari, iTunes & Skype Opens But Hangs Then Crashes Without Notification.

When I click Safari, iTunes or Skype on the dock of my MacBook, it opens, very slowly. But when I click on anything in-app, be it a bookmark, a song or a contact name, the spinning beachball appears. It spins for a minute or so and then the application quits by itself. Both Safari and iTunes quit without showing a crash report or the "unexpectedly crashed" dialogue, although Skype did show up with one.
Infact, most of the applications installed in my MacBook opens very slowly, much slower than before.
This problem started when I opened iTunes about a week and a half ago. When I clicked on a song to play it, then I opened another application (Safari), the song stopped and the spinning beachball appeared. Then more problems followed after that. I tried removing all the songs in my iTunes library and then installing them back again, all 31 GB of songs. It didn't work.
I read in another forum that it may be due to the amount of free space on the hard drive. I only have 6 GB left out of 180 GB. Is that the case?

This could be the case. Mac OS X 10 likes to have 10-15GB free to use as virtual memory and to store information temporarily while RAM is busy doing other things.
Your options include installing a larger hard drive (they are pretty cheap these days and it's a 10-minute DIY job) or moving your 31GB iTunes library to an external drive: http://www.tuaw.com/2006/09/19/how-to-keep-your-itunes-library-on-an-external-ha rd-drive/

  • Photoshop CS6 opens quickly- must wait 2-3 minutes to use program.

Greetings.  New to the forum.  I've found several references to my problem online, but none of the suggestions seems to work.  I have a brand new iMac running 10.9.4 Mavericks.  It has a 2.7 GHz Intel Core i5 processor and 16 GB of RAM.  I also have the 1TB Fusion Hard Drive.
When I open Photoshop it snaps open almost immediately.  If I click on a photo file and "open with" Photo shop, photoshop snaps open almost immediately and the photo opens about as quickly.  BUT... then I get the spinning beach ball for anywhere from 2-3 minutes before I can actually use the program.  Before I updated CS6 today, Photoshop would open and hang for 2-4 minutes on the "measuring memory" message.  Sometimes it would open, sometimes it would not open.  I just got CS6 today- and yes, it's a legal copy with valid serial number purchased from the university.
I've tried a few other programs in the suite (Premiere, Encore, Illustrator...and gave up waiting for them to load.  I've tried changing the performance settings in Photoshop.  I've deleted bad fonts.  I unchecked the "use graphics processor."  I've made sure that Photoshop can get through the iMac firewall.
Once the program finally loads, I can work with it and it seems "normal."  Ive have CS6 on my work iMac and it is very fast- but that machine is running Mountain Lion.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

This is because PS turned off the GPU when I opened it in safe mode.

This is not new.  The fact that Mac OS no longer supports PowerPC applications starting with OS X Lion has been known for over a year now.  You'll need to upgrade to the latest version of Photoshop
