Photoshop CC Properties Panel Live Shape bug

I know this problem was being discussed in the Photoshop forum a few months ago, but I want to put it in CC forum, since it's a CC problem.
I'm having the same issues as these people, where the properties panel doesn't always show you the live shape options and I can't for the life of me figure out why. Is there any movement on this?

Hi,
It ends up being a design decision, based on limitations around multi-layer selection and multi-path selection. There were serious problems activating the Live Shape properties without making a deliberate gesture from users a requirement. That's why we only enable them when paths are targeted with the Path tool or Direct select tool.

SG... Why not make the Live Shape Properties appear when the Move Tool selects a layer, then Free Transform Path is activated? That is a deliberate gesture that is intuitive.
That seems more natural than having to use the Path tool or Direct Select tool, which feels more like an awkward hack than a natural flow.
Just making the Live Shapes selectable in the menu and/or assigning it a shortcut would be a step in the right direction.
Thanks,
Phil

  • Photoshop CC Live Shape Bug

    Running OSX 10.8.4. Photoshop CC
    After creating a group of rounded rectangles.. randomly they will change from having editable Live Shape Properties to just the Masks Properties --- the Live Shape little icon/button in the top of the Properties panel is missing and only shows the Masks icon. Eventually all the rounded rectangles will lose the editable Live Shape Properties. No rhyme or reason.

    Had the same problem. Turns out I needed to use the Path Selection Tool and click the path right on the canvas, not in the layer panel. This re-enables the Live Shape properties.

  • Photoshop CC Live Shapes Properties Window Error

    When I create a rounded corners 'live shape' I don't get the correct Properties Window, it seems to show 'Mask' properties instead? So therefore I can't edit the corner readius. Sure I am doing something dumb - I must be missing something really obvious?

    You need Photoshop CC to use Live Shape properties. Just remember to use the Path Selection Tool and select the path right on the canvas, not in the layer panel, to see the Live Shape properties again. This re-enables the Live Shape properties.

  • Photoshop CC Live Shapes Properties Bug

    Checking out the corner radii controls on vector shapes and it looked to be working, until I created a couple of other shapes. The Properties box inconsistently changes for the same kind of shapes.

    Looks like I can't go back to edit the shape for some reason. What would cause this? It's like the shape has suddenly stopped being a Live Shape.
    Cheers!

    Hello,
    As a couple of people have mentioned in this thread, the Live Shapes Properties panel displays based on which subpaths are currently targeted. By targeted, I mean that the anchor points on the path are visible and at least one is filled. Clicking on the shape with the Path Selection tool is the easiest way to target a subpath. You can add to the targeted subpaths by Shift-clicking additional shapes with the Path Selection tool (or Shift-dragging around the shapes you want to select). Using the Move tool won't work for this, since it only selects the layer and not the path(s).
    We implemented it this way because now that Photoshop has multiple path selection and there are so many combinations of ways to select different kinds of paths, it can get really buggy when Photoshop has to make assumptions about exactly what the user meant to select. This way, it's obvious which subpaths are targeted.
    We are continuing to look into ways to improve the way the Properties panel works for live shapes. I see that a couple of bugs are mentioned here in addition to the issue with accessing the Live Shape Properties panel.
    Not only does it forget that you have a live shape, you can not create a new live shape if the you have a shape layer selected.
    This should be possible. Could you post the list of steps you're using when you run into this problem?
    This bug goes a lot further than what you have stated, if you select the live shape from the tool menu on the left it removes the properties and the width becomes the width of the space.
    I'm not sure what you mean by this -- could you also post a list of steps?
    Thanks!

  • Missing Live Shapes function when closing and reopening Photoshop CC

    When I create a LIVE SHAPE in Photoshop CC edit the corners etc, close the file and then reopen at another stage, the ability to change the LIVE SHAPE properties has dissapeared.
    Is it a bug or am I missing something.
    Thanks in advance.

    Best way I have found so far is to use the direct select tool (A).  It gives you the properties on some of the shapes again.  It doesn't always work though. Half of my shapes work and half don't

  • Disable Properties Panel Popping up When Making Shape?

    As title says, can you Disable Properties Panel Popping up When Making Shape?
    Sorry if this is a silly question, I can't seem to find the anwser anywhere. Whenever I make any shape it keeps bringing the panel up.

    As I don't like the way it covers the image, I docked it on top of the layers panel, and made my own workspace. I've read there is a new contextual menu to the panel on Photoshop 14.1

  • Can I turn off the Properties Panel in Photoshop CC?

    Every
    Single
    Time
    I draw a line or a shape or do almost anything it seems in PSCC, the Properties Panel jumps out. Quite rudely, it blocks the upper right of whatever I am working on. Yes, I can simply close it, but it interrupts my workflow, and it pops out constantly. This definitely did not happen in CS6 or any previous version of PS or even in the first version of PS in Creative Cloud.
    I haven't yet come across anywhere that will let me deactivate that automatic pop-out...I was hoping someone else had found it already. I would greatly appreciate some assistance!
    Thanks!!

    You 'instruct' me; I 'should' ... Imperatives, and yet it's me who has the 'attitude'.
    Your point regarding dates on the implementation is noted - apologies to those attempting to find a viable work-around with what they had available to them - but subsequent advice to deal with this by buying an extra monitor makes multiple presumptions.
    Thanks once again for your opinion on what I should do, but I came to the Adobe forum for an answer regarding an Adobe issue, by definition precisely the right place. Not to be given commands as to how I should work or spend my money by a complete stranger. There's very little helpful about the latter two points, irrespective of how you choose to define them.
    To restate my thanks:
    Thank you to Jorge and qerhqrhbwdbs for advice on how to actually deal with the problem.
    I've got more pressing things on the agenda than bickering about this, Noel, I presume you have too.

  • Live shape layer properties illustrator cc is missing

    Dear Sir live shape layer properties illustrator cc is missing advice me Thanks

    asim,
    If no one gives a good reason and a way to conjure up the missing bits, you may start looking at the general list below (and hope you will not need to go too far down that dark road).
    The following is a general list of things you may try when the issue is not in a specific file (you may have tried/done some of them already); 1) and 2) are the easy ones for temporary strangenesses, and 3) and 4) are specifically aimed at possibly corrupt preferences):
    1) Close down Illy and open again;
    2) Restart the computer (you may do that up to 3 times);
    3) Close down Illy and press Ctrl+Alt+Shift/Cmd+Option+Shift during startup (easy but irreversible);
    4) Move the folder (follow the link with that name) with Illy closed (more tedious but also more thorough and reversible);
    5) Look through and try out the relevant among the Other options (follow the link with that name, Item 7) is a list of usual suspects among other applications that may disturb and confuse Illy, Item 15) applies to CC, CS6, and maybe CS5);
    Even more seriously, you may:
    6) Uninstall, run the Cleaner Tool (if you have CS3/CS4/CS5/CS6/CC), and reinstall.

  • Live Shape Layer Properties illustrator cc

    Dear Sir i am not able to find the Live Shape Layer Properties illustrator cc please advice me Thanks

    Sorry Asim, this is the Lightroom forum, not the Illustrator forum.
    I'm sure a moderator will move your question to the right place very soon.

  • Is live shape properties only available on CC?

    I am using adobe CS6 and can't find an easier way to manipulate shapes.  Wondering if this feature is only in CC.

    Live Shapes is a new feature in Photoshop CC.  It actual a new interfaces for doing things like rounded corners rectangles you can even change corners independently.  To do that in CS6 you needed to install a script.   Shape are not really hard to edit in CS6.   Shape are basically fill layer with a vector mask.  It is not hard to edit the vector mask Path using Photoshop vector tools like the pen tool path selection tools. In fact you can ever edit rounder corners rectangle corners without the script. But not as easy as with the script.

  • How do I get a basic shape tool (not live shape) in Photoshop CC 2014?

    I seldom use shape tools, but today I needed a rectangle. I clicked on the rectangle tool expecting what I'd used before. Instead I got a live shape, which I'm sure is useful when I have time to learn how to use it. Today I don't. For now I simply need the old basic shape tool to draw a rectangle in my canvas. How can I get to it?

    Yes when you left click, don't drag and the current tool is one of the shape tools other then the line shape tool. You get one of the ridiculous shape dialog.  So don't just click always also drag out the shape.
    When I open PS CC I create a new file, select the rectangle tool, and left click-drag to get a box of whatever size I drag.
    When I open PS CC 2014 I create a new file, select the rectangle tool, and left click-drag. A few days ago that was creating a box of random size, anywhere from 32000 pixels to a side up to 100000 pixels per side and  placing it with the upper left corner in the middle of the screen. Today when I do it, it still creates a rectangle (105264 x 86400) but what shows on screen is coincident with and constrained by the size of the canvas. I thought perhaps since I had many things open, I was encountering peculiarities due to memory issues. However I closed most things, and the behavior did not change.
    I'm wondering if there is a setting that I have different between the two versions?

    I have just started experiencing this problem
    im running xcelsius 2008  vs 5.1.1.0   build number 12 1 1 3 44
    the properties panel all of a sudden no longer comes up when a component is double clicked or right clicked or alt entered

    Are other component property sheets not working either?
    If you want to give re-installing another shot, you can try the steps provided by Javier in this post.
    Best Practice Re-install Process?  (Xcelsius 2008 Engage)
    Also, after uninstalling, delete the folder where Xcelsius was installed to.
    (default would be C:Program FilesBusiness ObjectsXcelsius)
    Other than that, I don't really have much more information to provide.

  • Properties Panel (desperately needed)

    can anyone build a panel for photoshop like the fireworks property panel, or that makes the live shape properties in photoshop permanent and apply to any element. Being able to have a panel to control the size of an element or object, as well as its position of an element is a huge hole in photoshop that never seems to get fixed.

    You mean you want a mapping between each directory and a class that will handle the new data?
    I would recommend that your "new file listener" peruses the upload directory looking for new files regularly and, when it finds one, calculates the directory it is in:
    eg, c:/ftp/dir1/myfile.xml gives dir1
    You can then use a Map to retrieve the class that should process this file.
    public interface ContentHandler
      public void handle(File file) throws ContentException;
    public class ContentHandlerManager
      private Map contentHandlerMap;
      public ContentHandlerManager() throws Exception
        Properties properties = new Properties();
        InputStream in = null;
        try
          in = getClass().getResourceAsStream("content-handler-manager.properties");
          properties.load(in);
        finally
          in.close();
        for(Enumeration e = properties.propertyNames(); e.hasMoreElements(); )
          String dir = (String)e.nextElement();
          String className = properties.getProperty(dir);
          ContentHandler contentHandler = (ContentHandler)Class.forName(className).newInstance();
          contentHandlerMap.put(dir, contentHandler);
      public ContentHandler getContentHandler(String directory)
        return (ContentHandler)contentHandlerMap.get(directory);
    }content-handler-manager.properties:
    # mapping from directory name to class name
    dir1=com.me.content.ContentHandler1
    dir2=com.me.content.ContentHandler2Hopefully some of this is clear.

  • Properties panel still a major issue - so is overall CC interface

    Hi, I have just bought into the whole Adobe CC apps things after years of working with CS4, 5 and 5.5 and remaining compatible with most of my clients, few are taking the leap to CC right now.
    Anyways, I am extremely disappointed in the interface, and completely amazed that the Properties panel in Dreamweaver is still ridiculously underwhelming.
    Case in point, the URL field.
    Why has this field remained limited to just 30 characters when the Property panel extends the full width of the screen and is completely empty from the walfway mark over to the far right?
    Can't remember the last time I had such a simple URL it even fit in there, mostly dealing with enewsletters with externally-hosted content... need hard URLs that are lengthy, this limitation adds too much time to my work and is annoying beyond belief.
    In addition, all CC apps now leave a hideous solid background that covers all other apps, and the Finder, this to me is reverting back to 1998 standards, not Mac OS X standards at all.
    Are the recent Adobe CC apps all Windoze ports? The dialogue boxes look hideous, the progress bars, etc, etc. all hideous, nothing like the slick CS4 look that was a major improvement over previous versions.
    And in any dialogue box you have to tab through every single option in the dialogue box... what?
    I used to love Adobe apps, I use them daily, several hours a day. Now I just don't want to have to deal with them.
    Please Adobe, what happened? Tell me you're working on fixing these issues and making these apps usable again.
    Right now I'd rather become a manager and not have to look at InDesign, Illustrator, PhotoShop, Dreamweaver ever again.
    Thanks.

    Hi David, thanks for the Application Frame tip... although in InDesign [the app I use most] it is also in prefs which was confusing, isn't in DW's prefs, or Ilustrator's or PhotoShop's... but the interface colouring is... the inconsistency here is annoying. There are so many issues leftover from previous versions of these apps which I have pointed out to Adobe that it's disappointing, having "upgraded" to CC and not finding any real improvement. I remember when apps moved a full version they were exciting to use and explore, just not happening any more with so much room for improvement - I could understand if the apps had everything needed and were the absolute best possible... but not the case, truly disappointed, could have stayed with CS5.5. Thanks.
    PS - that form you pointed me to is the one I used to file the request - and they replied it wasn't a bug it was a feature request, even though the title of that forms states "Feature Request/Bug Report Form" Weird.
