Photoshop CC reports out of memory using Smart Sharpen

When I try to use Smart Sharpen PS reports out of memory even though I have 32GB of RAM, 25GB available and PS is allowed to use 76%. Increasing amount PS is allowed to use doesn't change anything.

You are definitely using the 64bit version?
Have you tried restarting Photoshop?
What are your Preferences > Performance settings?
Smart Sharpen was one of the items addressed in 14.2 and should be making more use of GPU acceleration.  I get almost zero lag with it now.

  • Photoshop CS6 on W7 platform crashing recently using smart sharpen filter.

Been working on a project moving files from Lightroom 4 to Photoshop CS6 for final edits and experiencing recent files crashing PS CS6 when using the smart sharpen filter. I've processed hundreds of files in CS6 and never had this issue till lately. All other filters work fine, including other sharpen options, it's just the smart sharpen interface. I over-installed/re-installed Photoshop CS6 thinking a driver might have corrupted for that filter, then installed all available upgrades but the problem persists. I can't figure it out, and it's a problem - I use smart sharpen a lot for final output. Am I overlooking something simple? Or, do I need to just uninstall PS CS6 and do a total re-install or is there another option? Thanks.

You should provide more detailed info, like who is your VPN provider, what VPN protocol (PPTP, L2TP, IPSec,) whether you're on home Wi-Fi, public Wi-Fi, 3G and if public Wi-Fi or 3G, then geographical location. (i.e.: Starbucks on 5th & Broadstreet, Detroit.)

  • Merging layers then using smart sharpening

I have been trying to apply smart sharpening to multi layers by creating copies of the layers, merging the copies then using smart sharpening on the merge. The change shows in the smart sharpening dialogue and I can see the change in the merged layer thumbnail but when I press OK the sharpening change disappears. The funny thing is that this method works pefectly with unsharp mask or any other image adjustment I apply to the copied/merged layer, it's just smart sharpening that doesn't work.
    Any ideas?
    Tony

Thank you for the quick reply
I normally do use 100% view when sharpening and as you suggested, this solves the problem.
I am still slightly puzzled why unsharp mask seemed to handle a less than 100% view better than smart sharpening but that doesn't really matter as long as I remember to always use 100%.
    Thanks

  • HELP! Photoshop CC 2014 Out Of Memory

I cannot for the life of me figure out what is going on here.  I am running a decent rig (i7 4790k, GTX 970) yet any time I start a new project in Photoshop, I immediately receive an "Out of Memory" notification.  I have posted my system information below.  Any help would be greatly appreciated as I rely on Photoshop daily for my work.

  • Out of memory using Windows Server 2003 and Oracle 9.2.0.3

    Hi,
I just installed both Windows Server 2003 and Oracle 9.2.0.3. The server I am using has 4 gigabytes of memory installed, and windows shows that to be the actual physical memory on the server. The paging file is 8 gigabytes for a total of 12 gigabytes of virtual memory.
Using the Oracle Database Configuration Assistant, I create a new database using default values. After verifying the installation worked OK (database started, queries ran), I attempted to change some of the memory parameters and was able to start the database using about 1.4 gigabytes of total SGA, with the O/S using about .3 gigabytes for a total of 1.7 gigabytes. I then attempted to change the buffer cache + 1 gigabyte for a total of 2 gigabytes. Now the database will not start and I get an out of memory error ora-27102 with an additional O/S memory error of "O/S Error: (OS 8) Not enough storage is available to process this command".
    So, I have two problems:
    1) With 4 gigabytes installed, and the O/S using only about 300 megabytes, why isn't Oracle able to take advantage of the memory on this machine past the 1.7 gigabytes (as reported by Windows task manager).
    2) How do I change the spfile memory parameters so the database will start using spfile? I can start the database pointing to a pfile with lesser memory parameters, but I don't know how to effect change on the spfile, since I cannot start with the spfile.
Both these technologies (9.2.0.3 and Server 2003) are new to me, so any insight would be appreciated!
HERE ARE THE SPFILE PARAMETERS THAT WORKED:
    SGA (M)
    Shared Pool=104
    Buffer Cache=960 ***
    Large Pool=0
    Java Pool=64
    Total SGA=1128

    Aggregate PGA Target=1500
    Current PGA Allocated=22868KB
WINDOWS MEMORY INFO FROM TASK MANAGER SHOW:

    Thank you.

    CREATE SPFILE
    Purpose
Use the CREATE SPFILE statement to create a server parameter file from a client-side initialization parameter file. Server parameter files are binary files that exist only on the server and are called from client locations to start up the database.
Server parameter files let you make persistent changes to individual parameters. When you use a server parameter file, you can specify in an ALTER SYSTEM SET parameter statement that the new parameter value should be persistent. This means that the new value applies not only in the current instance, but also to any instances that are started up subsequently. Traditional client-side parameter files do not let you make persistent changes to parameter values. Because they are located on the server, these files allow for automatic database tuning by Oracle and for backup by Recovery Manager (RMAN).
To use a server parameter file when starting up the database, you must create it from a traditional text initialization parameter file using the CREATE SPFILE statement.
All instances in an Real Application Clusters environment must use the same server parameter file. However, when otherwise permitted, individual instances can have different settings of the same parameter within this one file. Instance-specific parameter definitions are specified as SID.parameter = value, where SID is the instance identifier.
The method of starting up the database with a server parameter file depends on whether you create a default or nondefault server parameter file. Please refer to "Creating a Server Parameter File: Examples" for examples of how to use server parameter files.

CREATE PFILE for information on creating a regular text parameter file from a binary server parameter file
Oracle9i Database Administrator's Guide for information on pre-Oracle9i initialization parameter files and Oracle9i server parameter files
Oracle9i Real Application Clusters Administration for information on using server parameter files in a Real Application Clusters environment
    Prerequisites
You must have the SYSDBA or the SYSOPER system privilege to execute this statement. You can execute this statement before or after instance startup. However, if you have already started an instance using spfile_name, you cannot specify the same spfile_name in this statement.
    Syntax
    create_spfile::=
    Text description of create_spfile
    Semantics
    spfile_name
This clause lets you specify a name for the server parameter file you are creating.
If you do not specify spfile_name, Oracle uses the platform-specific default server parameter filename. If spfile_name already exists on the server, this statement will overwrite it. When using a default server parameter file, you start up the database without referring to the file by name.
If you do specify spfile_name, you are creating a nondefault server parameter file. In this case, to start up the database, you must first create a single-line traditional parameter file that points to the server parameter file, and then name the single-line file in your STARTUP command.
    See Also:
"Creating a Server Parameter File: Examples" for information on starting up the database with default and nondefault server parameter files
Oracle9i Database Administrator's Guide for Windows (or other appropriate operating system specific documentation) for default parameter file names
    pfile_name
Specify the traditional initialization parameter file from which you want to create a server parameter file.
If you specify pfile_name, the parameter file must reside on the server. If it does not reside in the default directory for parameter files on your operating system, you must specify the full path.
If you do not specify pfile_name, Oracle looks in the default directory for parameter files on your operating system for the default parameter filename, and uses that file. If that file does not exist in the expected directory, Oracle returns an error.
    Note:
In a Real Application Clusters environment, you must first combine all instance parameter files into one file before specifying it in this statement to create a server parameter file. For information on accomplishing this step, see Oracle9i Real Application Clusters Setup and Configuration.
    Examples
Creating a Server Parameter File: Examples
The following example creates a default server parameter file from a client initialization parameter file named t_init1.ora:
    CREATE SPFILE
    FROM PFILE = '$ORACLE_HOME/work/t_init1.ora';
    Note:
Typically you will need to specify the full path and filename for parameter files on your operating system. Please refer to your Oracle operating system documentation for path information.
When you create a default server parameter file, you subsequently start up the database using that server parameter file by using the SQL*Plus command STARTUP without the PFILE parameter, as follows:
    STARTUP
The following example creates a nondefault server parameter file s_params.ora from a client initialization file named t_init1.ora:
    CREATE SPFILE = 's_params.ora'
    FROM PFILE = '$ORACLE_HOME/work/t_init1.ora';
When you create a nondefault server parameter file, you subsequently start up the database by first creating a traditional parameter file containing the following single line:
    spfile = 's_params.ora'
The name of this parameter file must comply with the naming conventions of your operating system. You then use the single-line parameter file in the STARTUP command. The following example shows how to start up the database, assuming that the single-line parameter file is named new_param.ora:
    STARTUP PFILE=new_param.ora

  • Photoshop CS6 has out of memory errors under Mac OS X 10.7.4

Has anyone who has a 2008 MacBoo Pro with the NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT 512 MB graphics card tried running Photoshop CS6 under Mac OS X 10.7.4?
On my MacBook Pro, PS CS6 launches; however, any action results in an out of memory error.  The CS6 versions of After Effects, Premiere Pro and Illustrator all launch and run as expected under 10.7.4.
If I switch to my Mac OS X 10.6.8 startup volume, Photoshop CS6 runs as expected.
I have support cases open with Adobe, NVidia and Apple.  Adobe thinks I need to update the display drivers.  NVidia says display drivers must be provided by Apple.  Apple says that the display drivers are current.  The Apple support agent said that he can escalate the case if the issue can be reproduced on more than one computer.
I'd love to keep my MacBook Pro running another year or so without having to reboot in 10.6.8 every time I need to use Photoshop.  I'd stay with 10.6.8, but of course iCloud requires 10.7.4.
I have not tried 10.8 yet, but it's on my troubleshooting list.
Also, PS CS6 runs fine under Mac OS X 10.7.4 on my 2010 iMac.
Thanks in advance for any feedback.
    - Warren

It looks like it was indeed the display driver for the NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT 512 MB graphics card inside my 2008 MacBook Pro.
It seems that this driver only gets installed if you upgrade from Mac OS X 10.6.7 to 10.7.4 while the startup drive is connected to the MacBook Pro itself.  I had updated while the startup drive was connected to my 2010 iMac. Accordingly, I could have reinstalled Photoshop 100 times without it ever launching as expected.  Having used the external startup drive with three other Apple computers (all 2010 or newer machines) with Photoshop CS6 launching as expected, I had just assumed (mistakenly) that it would work as expected with my 2008 computer.
So, this was simple enough to resolve by upgrading the OS on the external startup drive while having it connected to the MacBook Pro.   In hindsight, this makes perfect sense.

  • Photoshop CS6: Pros and Cons of Using Smart Objects

I haven't had Photoshop CS6 for that long, and have only just got past feeling uncomfortable with using Curves, now I've learnt how to use them properly.
My concern is - I am currently learning about Smart Objects. The concept, at first, seemed like 'the best thing since sliced bread', being able to non-destructively use filters, Shadows/Highlights command, Unsharp Mask, endlessly scale using Free-Transform etc etc, without harming pixels at all.
However, the more articles I read about their use in Photoshop, the more I am afraid to start using them in my workflow.
I understand that when you convert to a Smart Object, this process is non-destructive, i.e. I can perform as many readjustments to a filter, for example, and Photoshop will always work from the embedded container file (which has had no filter adjustment made to it) to adjust the filter to your most recently adjusted settings. If you later decide you don't want to use a filter at all, and rasterize the Smart Object back into a regular layer again, is this process non-destructive as well?
Then there is this article, which I struggle to understand properly:
    http://bjango.com/articles/smartobjects/
Please see the part 'Smart Objects Created in Photoshop'. It seems to say I can't scale with a Smart Object without causing interpolation and blurry edges. Please can somebody clarify what the writer of this article is trying to get across, because it is well documented that Smart Objects can be endlessly rescaled non-destructively.
Please understand I use Photoshop primarily for editing photographs.

There is much modern focus on "non-destructive" editing, but keep in mind if you don't overwrite or destroy the original file there is no destruction at the highest level.  Put in layman's terms, you could always start over with the raw file.
That thought segways into my next one:  Non-destructive editing makes sense if you need to use the same information for a variety of somewhat related purposes, or if the work product may need to change (e.g., to suit the whims of a fickle client).
But at another extreme, if you're editing for a particular purpose - say creating the best possible print from an exposure - sprinting right for the finish line by changing pixel values directly and being done with it can be an extremely effective approach.  This requires that you get things right the first time, and that takes practice.
Some folks do their Photoshop work by building up layer after layer and using smart objects, smart filters, etc., and this can be effective but no computer has yet been built that can composite all that stuff in real time with a big image.  So there IS a cost to doing it.  What you might gain by being able to re-do things, you might not have needed to gain if your control responses were instantaneous and you could tweak the intermediate result at every step very easily.  Note the number of posts about how slow Photoshop CS6 is/was at editing deep documents, some by people using 2012 computers.
As with most things, it's horses for courses.  It's good that Photoshop gives us rich tools and choices for how to work.
Regarding your specific question, bear in mind that what's communicated to the parent document from each of its embedded Smart Objects is a flat, rasterized image.  Think of the embedded smart object kind of like going off and opening another document, making the changes you want, saving the document, then flattening it and pasting the pixels into your parent document.
In the very first example in the linked article, they show how the smart-object-rasterized image of a vector circle, subsequently scaled by resampling the parent document in which the Smart Object is used, becomes fuzzy as it is scaled up.  Once you understand this you realize that of course you could scale up the smart object itself, e.g., to a size equal to or larger than what's ultimately needed by the parent document, and then it could be crisp in the parent document where it's used.
Of course, having all your smart objects at a size larger than you need takes up even more resources.

  • Photoshop bug report site is broken (using wrong site)

I have a pretty serious Photoshop bug to report -- something that was supposedly fixed in 14.2.1.
I took the time to go to  https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform  as usual when reporting bugs.
I wrote out the nature of the bug, and all the steps to reproduce it.
But the CONTINUE button is non-functional. At the moment it is IMPOSSIBLE to report bugs to Adobe.

    Hi,
We ask that bugs for Photoshop get reported here now:

I'll take a look at your other thread about pasted AI files.

  • HFR Reports imported into ppt using smart view

    Hi All,
    Hyperion financial reporting version:11.1.2.334
ORACLE smart view version for office :11.1.2.5.210(Build 042)
    Microsoft power point version 2007
Hyperion financial reporting  reports imported into Microsoft power point presentation  using smart view, total 55 HFR reports are imported into power point presentation.
The  entire ppt file with 60 slides ,55 reports+5 textual commentary slides ,total size of the pptx file is 21 mb,
We have tried using the compress picture option available in power point, reducing the file size to 3.5 MB after compression(96 ppi ,see attached image),but image quality is lost, numbers in some images not readable at all.
Also tried the compression options with 220ppi,150ppi,but not seen any change in the file size reduction.
We are looking at reducing the size of ppt file as 20 mb file is difficult to transfer by email or to download, is there any workaround or other best solutions to reduce the size of an image ,we are ok to lose the quality of an image if the numbers and labels are readable.
Thanks in advance for your valuable suggestion.
    Regards,
    Ashok

    Hi Joshi,
Thanks a lot for your valuable time and inputs,i have tried with winzip and as well 7 zip,but not reduced the size.
if i see my users existing ppt file size is 4 mb (60 slides),but these reports designed in excel sheet (not in HFR) and then copied to  PPT.
Tabular reports copied from excel to ppt as windows metafile and graphs and charts are as image file.
is there any possibility to change the image format before or after importing the HFR report into ppt using any SDK in smart view?
thanks in advance for your valuable inputs,it will be a great help.
    Regards,

  • How to find out total memory used by each database ?

I have two databases in one unix server.
    1) I need to know total memory used by each database.
    2) secondly, I want to know the detail used in each database.
    thanks

For a database using dedicated shared servers, we can say total memory = 1 * SGA + sum (PGA) for all dedicated server processes (this excludes the size of the Oracle binary)
    For SGA, see
    http://download-uk.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14231/create.htm#sthref401
    or
ipcs -mob | grep <oracle account> gives the SGA sizes for the 2 databases.
    for PGA,
    see PGA_USED_MEM column http://download-uk.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14237/dynviews_2022.htm#sthref3837
it's difficult to rely on Unix top/ps command because some Unix will add the shared memory to each dedicated server connection, some not.

  • Photoshop CS5 (Mac) How to load custom Smart Sharpen filter?

Yesterday I was working with a collection of photos, and saved my Smart Sharpen settings. As I moved from one photo to another, I was able to choose my saved settings in the dropdown menu. Today, however, all that is available is "default" -- how can I load yesterday's saved settings?

If you don't exit Photoshop gracefully, it doesn't write settings changes out to disk.
It's not something one should have to worry about, but it's always a good idea after you make a Photoshop configuration change (or create named settings, or similar) to just exit Photoshop right away.

  • Financial Reports import into excel using Smart View - error

    All,
I have encountered an error message when trying to use R&A Import.
    The message is
Oracle Hyperion Smart View for Office, Fusion Edition
"Excel cannot insert the sheets into the destination workbook, because it contains fewer rows and columns than the source workbook. To move or copy the data to the destination workbook, you can select the data, and then use the Copy and Paste commands to insert it into the sheets of another workbook."
This only affects some users and then they are able to reimport the reports no problem in the same workbook after the error is posted.
Does anybody know how to fix this issue?
We are using Excel 2007, Oracle Hyperion Smart View 11.1.13, Financial Reporting Studio, Hyperion Planning 11.1.13.

Answer appears to be users were using Excel 2007 in compatibility mode. Switching from compatibility mode to saving in Excel 2007 removed the errors.
