Photoshop CC / Windows 8.1 HiDPI / Retina scaling support

Hi,  I am currently running the latest CC apps on a Windows 7 machine and am currently looking to upgrade my PC hardware, I have my eye on either the new Dell XPS15 with Haswell CPU/HiDPI screen (3200x1800 resolution) or the equivalent new Dell Precision m3800 when available in November with identical specs.  After testing a number Windows 8/8.1 systems over the last few days with Photoshop CC (14.1.2) It appears that Adobe has still yet to implement retina style UI scaling for any of it's CC apps for the Windows platform. They all seem to default to a predefined pixel font size. Potentially making Photoshop and other apps unusable on a 3200x1800 15.6" laptop screen if they do not scale like their Mac counterparts.  Can anyone confirm or elaborate on whether this feature exists for Adobe products on Windows yet, if it ever will or when it will become available in the near future?  Thanks

I concur with what has been said, it is a disgrace on the part of Adobe to invest so little for such a pressing matter.
Many applications scale very well with Windows 8.1, including a few of Adobe.
In addition, not having vector UI elements that scale is so 1990 and highly distasteful from the market leader in vector tools.
It simply shows how many years Adobe has been living on super fat upgrade prices for very little additional features and next to no in-depth improvements.
My experience with the new Dell XPS 15 3200x1800, which is truly an outstanding laptop in its own right, for CS6 work:
don't bother for Illustrator, after effects, premiere.
It isn't optimal for Photoshop but I personnally use much less dialogbox based addons.
Knowing all keyboard shortcuts becomes almost mandatory.
InDesign scales perfectly, as well as Lightroom 5.2
So my advice is to pressure Adobe into giving a timetable of when the situation will be resolved and plan purchasing a laptop at this time.
My advice for Adobe would be to start taking the Indesign/Lightroom team to teach the old guard how things are done.
If you want to buy a laptop with super high resolution now, and again many applications work very well as is under Windows 8.1, be prepared to work with a non super high resolution external monitor for Adobe work. If you don't like this solution I recommend postponing the laptop purchase, as you would be disappointed for what are in effet amazing laptops. Or purchase them with a 1920x1080 resolution and with the sparred money buy a high res external monitor when the time comes.
Update
There is a potential mitigating workaround, but you'll have to test it to see if it's for you or not.
Use the Windows magnifier ( 'Windows Key' + 'plus key') to zoom in, set it on magnifying glass mode (not full screen mode) in the drop down or with ctrl-alt-L
Optionally, you may want to adjust the size of the zoomed window to taste with ctrl-alt-R, then move the mouse to resize and click to set. I find that a wide rectange works well fo rme.
When not needed any more either use Windows key + minus key to zoom out or press Windows + Esc to close the Windows magnifier.
Note that Windows+ minus doesn't work on my laptop, it works only with the minus of the numeric keypad. But Win + Esc is a working alternative.
I find the magnifier of tremendous help with Adobe's tiny ui elements.

  • I found a solution to Photoshop CS6, Windows 8.1 HiDPI, Small UI problem

I found a solution and here it is - I have been struggling to find a solution to the small UI on Photoshop and Illustrator CS6 issue since May 2014 when I purchased a Dell XPS15 with high resolution.  Like many, I've spent countless hours searching for a solution and reading Adobe's weak answers and everyone's growing frustrations.  Finally a found a post that solved the issue for me.  The UI is now fine for both Photoshop and Illustrator.
Here is the link - it worked for me and was really very easy to do.
Hack makes Photoshop and Illustrator readable on Surface Pro — Surface Pro Artist

I have never fully understood Microsoft windows desktop scaling and usually just stay with Microsoft default settings.  I have played with it some,  I know if I scale fonts way up in size  the may not fit in in son applications UI areas and have also observed the some application seem to honor Microsoft scaling and others do not.  So I never set a custom scaling factor.  I stick with the few presets Microsoft set up. Normally stick with Microsoft default setting. The seems to be for the most machines 100%.  When  I set up my surface Pro 3 I notices that Microsoft default for the machine 150%.   Microsoft presets are 100%  2160x1440,  125%  1728x1152,  the 150% default 1440x960 and 200%  1080x720.     Applications like Web browsers saw the screen at the 150% size resolution  1440x960 Pixe's and display was very useable.   Application like Adobe Photoshop  saw the display 100% setting 2160x1440 and the UI was in the small useable you need to add a mouse.  If I use CC 2014 Preference 2x UI Photoshop would use the 200% setting  1080x720 and Photoshop UI was so large it did not fit on screen. the display was not 768 pixel high.  So I thought I would try the registry hack and the external Photoshop.exe.manifest file to see how 150% scale looked. 1440x960 meets Photoshop display size requirement.  The result is quite nice.  Here are three screen captures  one with PS UI and tool bat a second wit UI, Tool bar and some Pallets and a third in full screen mode without UI, Tool Bar and Palettes.  All have my touchkey UI.  It is like having a display with an 144 ppi resolution.  John thank you for posting what you found. Its looking good.

  • How can I install Windows 7 on a Retina MBP with no optical drive?

I'd like to install Windows 7 on a Retina MacBook Pro via Boot Camp.
However, the only distribution of Windows I'm aware of is on a physical disk.
My MBP doesn't have an optical drive. It can't read disks like that.
I'm hoping there's some kind of workaround here, because I'd hate to spend money on an external optical drive I'm only going to use once.
Does Microsoft offer a way to buy Windows 7 via a download?
If so, can I then copy the downloaded installer that onto an external USB hard drive and install from there?
Or is the only option to buy an external optical drive? (If that's the case, any guidance on which one to buy -- can I get away with a generic one or do I need to shell out $80 for Apple's "Superdrive?")
I actually have another Mac that does have an optical drive. Could that help me out somehow?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

  • Photoshop cs3 + windows vista + intuos 3

I am working with "photoshop cs3" "windows ultimate vista" and an "wacom intuos 3" tablet and I experience heavy lags while drawing like the brush-strokes don't quite follow my moves, and I have to wait for them to catch up.
When I open a large file and I try to apply the first brush stroke on my drawing the cursor screen disappears for a while and photoshop is not responding.
Then Photoshop comes back so the cursor and I can start to work. But as soon as I drag the page using the little Hand tool photoshop stops responding again for few more seconds and when it restarts I can hardly control the direction of my new brush strokes.
Apparently in order to restart the only remedy I found (by chance) is by toggling the layer visibility status (change a layer from visible to not and back to visible again). After this exercise I can draw in photoshop again! But of course same problems again as soon as I will use the hand tool and move on the screen again!!!
Any idea about what could be behind my problems!?
    What should I check?
(These problems started after last week immediately after re installation of vista on my machine, I never had this problem with vista photoshop and intuos on that same machine before!)
    Thanks
    Mario

I have CS3, Vista Ultimate and an Intuos3 tablet. No lags or delays now. But I used to have them and many were reported on the Wacom Users Forum when Vista first came out. I can't remember now what the fix was - have a look on the Wacom Users' Forum. If you had it running ok on your previous Vista installation some software setting must have changed in the new installation. Things that may help are:
get latest Nvidia vga card drivers (if you have an Nvidia card); get the latest Wacom driver; Logitech Setpoint software conflicting - the latest is ok for me; disable/switch off the Vista Pen and Input device.
Sorry, I can't remember the fixes but they should be available if you dig around in the Wacom Users' Forum.

  • I received a psd file created in CS6 for MAC, I am unable to find the layers when I open it in photoshop in Windows. What can i do to edit the files?

I received a psd file created in CS6 for MAC, I am unable to find the layers when I open it in photoshop in Windows. What can i do to edit the files? What can be done so that I can either open and see the layers or how can the sender save it in a way that it doesn't "merge" the layers in some way to just one?

Could try saving as tiff provided layers and transparency are chosen at the time of saving. But it's hard to give a definitive answer as it depends on the final usage. For example PSD's tend to work better in applications like In Design in comparison with tiff.

    Welcome to Apple Communities
PowerPC applications are unsupported in newer versions. You can upgrade Photoshop or you can install Snow Leopard in a partition.
    1. Open Disk Utility (Applications > Utilities) and select your drive
    2. Go to Partitions tab, press + button, create a new partition and press Apply
    3. Insert the Snow Leopard install DVD and reboot pressing C key
    4. Install it in the new partition
    5. If you want to change boot, go to System Preferences > Startup Disk and select 10.7

  • Photoshop CS4 Window Stays In Background

When I drag an image file into Photoshop CS4, the file opens but Photoshop remains in the background – i.e., in the window behind the one that I dragged the file from.
For example - I open Photoshop, then open Bridge, with the Bridge window mostly covering Photoshop’s window. Drag a file from Bridge to PS. The file opens in PS, but the PS window is still behind Bridge’s window. I have to either ALT-Tab or click on the PS Window to bring it to the front.
On prior editions of PS, it would come to the front automatically when a new file was opened. I still have CS3 on my computer, and verified this.
This happens whether the file is dragged from Bridge, Windows Explorer, or Thumbs Plus. It happens in both the 64 and 32 bit versions of CS4. I looked through the preferences and don’t see anything that seems to relate to this behavior. Is this how CS4 is meant to work? Is there any setting I can tweak to change this?
    Thanks in advance –
    TR

    It doesn't happen here.
Sometimes I have to use the Arrange Documents menu to float the image.
However, I normally jut "Open" them from Bridge with a double click or right-click, rather than dragging.

  • Invalid Serial Number Photoshop Elements (Windows) download

Can you help out?  I have received an invalid serial number when installing the Photoshop Elements (Windows) 12.  I have the serial number from the Adobe website for this product.  What can be done to complete the installation?
    Thanks!

If the serial number is from Adobe website then all you need to do is to copy and paste it in your PSE so that there isn't any error in copying the serial number and inserting it manually in PSE.
    Are you doping this?
If you are then you need to contact Adobe Customer Service to help you because this is a public forum where volunteers try to help each other;  Adobe staff  rarely visit here and if they do, they spend very little time.
    Good luck.

A creative Cloud membership provides you with the ability to have installations on different platforms, Windows and Mac.  And since you are allowed to have two working installations, you can have one of each.

You could try using the DNG converter 8.7 on Windows vista:

  • How to enable shortcut for menubar in MAC OS, Here in Photoshop on Windows OS we can see the letter underlined for shortcut.

Here in Photoshop on Windows OS we can see the letter underlined for shortcut.
    In Menu bar
    F for File
    E for Edit
    and I for Image
We can press alt+F to list file menu
and alt+E to list Edit menu
Is there any option like this to enable shortcuts for menu bar in "MAC OC"

The closest I know is assigning "Move focus to the menu bar" in the Preferences a keyboard shortcut and then navigating with the arrow keys (letters may also work to highlight, but not to expand in and of themselves once the focus is on the menu bar).
