    If the OP's information is correct (Snow Leopard), there is no autosave.
    Otherwise, the idea that you must save once before autosave kicks in seems to be one of those bits of misinformation that gets repeated so many times that everyone starts to believe it. I never used Lion or Yosemite, but certainly with Mountain Lion and Mavericks, autosave does save documents before they are saved to a real file. Since that is essential to the ability to restore open windows on relaunch, I am pretty sure it also applies to the systems that I haven't used.
    I think the system may not keep versions until a document is explicitly saved.
    Closing an unsaved document will discard the autosave information in any case, but, at least with the way I've had my preferences set, it does throw up a dialog asking you to confirm that you want to discard the data.

  • Edit in Adobe Photoshop CS without saving the file

    When I do "Edit in Adobe Photoshop CS" of a RAW file, LR saves a TIFF or PSD file first, then opens it with PS CS. LR should give an option to forward the picture to PS CS through some in-memory inter-process communication, as opposed to saving the photo from LR and re-open it from PS CS. It might be much faster.
    In case, I understand LR would not give the option to stack the edited file with the RAW file.

    Then turn it into a droplet (you do know how to do that?) and put it in the Exprt Actions Folder and call for it in a Export Preset set for the JPEG you want.
    LR will then on Export run the droplet and save to the folder of your choice.

  • Programs Crashing when Closing without Saving

    Everytime I cose a document (no matter what Program I am using), when the Save/Don't Save/Cancel dialog box pops up the Program crashes. It also happens when I try to Log Out and the countdown timer pops up.
    I mostly use Photoshop, but ths happens with other apps like Textedit.

    Aouto recovery is not really the same as an auto-save, either. You don't necessarily get the last state before the program closed (a force quit would do an auto-recovery, too, on restart) because the the recovery data is not updated in real time.

  • There used to be a special feature on the previouse versions of Firefox. when you close the firefox with multiple tabs opened it displays an option of saving it or closing without saving. but this version specially the 7th doesnot have that.

    specially version 3.6 is good on saving the tabs before closing the firefox. but the latest versions should have had more that just this but it doesnt support the saving tabs or may be i didnt see it there. please if it has this feature let me know.
    the other thing is the norton toolbar 2011.7.1.3 is incompatible with firefox 7.

    Firefox 4 and later versions save the previous session automatically, so there is no longer need for the dialog asking if you want to save the current session.<br />
    Use "File > Exit" or "Firefox > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit Firefox") if you want to restore multiple windows.<br />
    You can use "History > Restore Previous Session" to get the previous session at any time.<br />
    You may need to click the orange/gray Firefox button to see History.<br />
    There is also a "Restore Previous Session" button on the default <b>about:home</b> Home page.
    Using the "Show my windows and tabs from last time" setting is a more reliable way to restore session data.

  • How can I recover a document I closed without saving?

    I was working in a recovered photo on photoshop CC and then I close the image before save it. How can I open again that image without losing any process ?

    Then that file is still on your hard drive. Photoshop lists it as recovered because it was open when your computer shut off by itself. PS does that automatically. Do you remember the name of the image? Look in the folder you keep your images, it should be in there.

    Accidently closed a Acrobat X Standard file without saving it, autosave is on, set for 5 minutes, but where do I find it?

    Hi Michael,
    That is not how the autosave feature works. Autosave helps in situations where program crashes/freezes or power goes out (basically, in situations where user have no control over the system). Closing the file without saving is not considered as unexpected interruption; it is intentional for most of the users.
    When you close, save manually, or revert to the last-saved version of a file, the autosave file is deleted. Adobe Acrobat X Pro * Saving PDFs

    You can also search this forum for more info. Yvan Koenig has created an Applescript that auto-saves in Pages.
    In fact, it autosaves in Pges, Numbers and Keynote.
    More, it saves also dateTime stamped zipped copy so you may recover old works in case of problems with a recent file.

  • Conversion from CS3 to CS4 - closing files without saving

    One more issue...
    I'm making temporary changes to a book and a document so I want to close the documents without saving. This is what I'm currently using.
                    myBook.close(SaveOptions.NO);
                    myDocument.close(SaveOptions.NO);
    What seems to be happening is that the file is saved anyway. No Save As window opens. I've looked in the Object Model and it looks like CS4 uses the same syntax as for CS3. Any suggestions?
    B

    It looks like you're trying to add an existing CS3 document to a new CS4 book. InDesign wants to save the CS3 document in CS4 and so gives you the Save As dialog. You can either go through all the existing CS3 documents you'll be adding and save them out from CS4, or add a few lines to the script that will do it. (Change the variable name I used if it's used somewhere else in your script.)
    // Creating book
    var myBookFileName = myPath+"Personalized Modules/PW.indd";
    myBookFile = new File( myBookFileName );
    myBook = app.open( myBookFile );
    myBook = app.books.add( myBookFile );
    // Add the front cover
    myFilename = myPath+"Personalized Modules/PW_Cover.indd";
    myFile = File(myFilename);
    // Save cover document in current version
    myDoc = app.open(myFile,false);
    myDoc.save(myFile)); // will overwrite CS3 file with CS4 file
    myDoc.close();
    myBook.bookContents.add(myFile);
    // Add the rest of the individual files
    I didn't test this code. Let me know if you have problems.

  • Close Excel com object without saving changes?

    Hi, I am trying to write a script which opens each of 31 excel workbooks, retrieves a value from a cell, and closes each workbook after retrieving.
    My code so far:
    $day=1
    $excel = New-Object -ComObject Excel.Application
    $excel.Visible=$True
    $workbook= $excel.Workbooks.Open("C:\Path|to\File\1_"+$day+"_14.xlsx")
    $workbook.sheets.item(1).activate()
    $WorkbookTotal=$workbook.Worksheets.item(1)
    $value = $WorkbookTotal.Cells.Item(7,13)
    $value.Text #this should give you back the Value in that Cell
    $excel.close()
    My problem is that when the code hits the $excel.close() method, the file stays open, and prompts for saving changes.  I don't know why it thinks there are changes, but what I want is to close the workbook without saving changes.
    I've just closed 44 open browser tabs, and have tried many things over the last hour, but can't seem to get this one.
    If anyone has any advice on how to do this, it would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Kevin

    Hi,
    Please replace below code:
    $excel.close()
    with
    $workbook.close($false)
    $excel.quit()
    Hope this helps.

  • How do I print Mail attachment without saving it first

    I'm new to Mavericks.  With Mail in Lion, I could scroll to the bottom of an email and double click on the icon for the Word doc or pdf attachment to open it, then hit command P to print it. With Mavericks, it appears that I have to first "save" the document somewhere and then open it and print it. Is this correct?
    In most cases, this is an extra step that is unnecessary.
    Right now, the attachment displays (opened) within the email, but I don't want to print several pages of an email when all I want is to print the attached doc, for instance, an attached invoice. Also, I can't tell what kind of document it is without saving it, which I don't like. I've tried to find a way around this in preferences but no luck.
    I guess what I'd really prefer is to go back to the old Lion version of Mail, or something that approximates it more closely. Do I need to just get over it and realize that I'm going to have to save every attachment if I want to print it or is there a workaround of some sort?

    Hi tbirdvet. Even though the content of the attachment now displays as part of the email message, I tried clicking on that portion of the email and, sure enough, the "attachment" popped up in Preview, just like you said. (I kept looking for a Word doc icon or a pdf icon to double click on, but they're no longer found at the bottom of the email or selectable from a drop down menu.)
    I'm so glad this worked. Thanks.

  • How do I prevent Lightroom from creating duplicates if the edit in photoshop is not saved?

    Hello!
    How do I prevent Lightroom from creating duplicates if the edit in photoshop is not saved?
    So... Quite often I choose to 'Edit in photoshop' from Lightroom but then end up not saving the result. (for example, because I just wanted to experiment with the photo, or I'm not satisfied with the results)
    However, Lightroom always creates a copy of the original photo, which stays in the catalog even if the photoshop changes aren't saved.
    Is there a way to stop this, and only add a photo if it has been edited in PS?
    Using LR5 with PS CS6 on a Mac 10.9
    THANK YOU!

    Select 'Open the Image in PS as a Smart Object'. The image will be rendered by ACR in memory without being written to disc until you save it from within PS.

  • Safari closing without warning-MacBookAir

    Recently I upgraded to lion and also to cloud. The new cloud tabs at the top of the screen show top sites,recent documents and current page.
    Today, I have had repeted cases of Safari closing without warning.I restarted my MacBookAir but the problem is continuning .How can I fix it?

    Look at the logs.
    If the app is crashing it's likely saving a crash log that pinpoints the cause of the crash. It might not make much sense to you, but posting the first few lines might provide some hints to more seasoned users.
    Start off with /var/log/system.log
    (you can use /Applications/Utilities/Console.app to view it). You should see a timestamped message at the time of the crash indicating that a crash log was saved, along with the path to that log.
    You can then examine that log file for hints, or post it online for others to comment.

  • How can I close a document without saving changes?

    I'm using Pages 4.3 with OS10.9.1.
    Before I upgraded to OS10.9.1, when I closed a document (Command W) it asked me first if I want to save the changes I'd made to the document. I had the option of saving or not saving.
    Sometimes I want to close a document without saving the changes, for example if I edit a text, then decide I prefer the unedited version.
    But now that I'm using OS10.9.1, when I close a document, it automatically saves any changes I've made.
    How can I get back to the original option of saving or not saving changes when I close a document? This option was available with the same version of Pages, when used with an earlier OS.
    I've searched the Pages Users Guide, but can't find any answer, or default settings. Pages Preferences doesn't seem to address this.
    I'm not using track changes, so I don't think that's the problem.
    Any solutions would be greatly appreciated!

    [Viking: I am using v4.3. ... See my orginal post.]
    But I found the solution, for anyone else who is having the same problem....
    Open your computer's System Preferences > General, and click the box "Ask to keep changes when closing documents."
    Now, when you close a document in Pages, a window will open giving you the option of saving changes or not.
    (I don't know whether this works in Pagesv.5., buty it works with v.4.3)

  • Photoshop changes not saving in Aperture

    Greetings,
    I'm having a frequent but inconsistent problem that when I open images in Photoshop. After saving the changes and closing the PS file, the copy is still there in Aperture but it remains a copy of the original, it does not record any changes made in PS. When I quit out of Aperture and restart, I get the stacked images thumbnail but with only one image in it, and only marked as one image in the corner (whereas it said two and there were two images in it before quitting Aperture).
    any ideas?

    Hmm! hadn't done that yet (this happens both ins PS CS3 & CS4 by the way, saved as either 8 or 16 bit TIFFs) and maybe this is a piece of the puzzle--went to show package contents and found the original files, including all the copies, which were each given individual folders with successive numbers. For example, the original files is "Bottega_432" and can be found in its folder names as such. Each PS saved version was given its own folder with the same name but numbered successively in brackets after the folder name. Should these be going into the same folder and are not for some reason? The images themselves seem to be fine. I'm guessing it has something to do with Aperture not seeing the new folder it created for the new version? directories? this is beyond me.
