Photoshop Color Conversion (not batching)
Is there a way to have Photoshop (CS5.1) automatically convert photos from RGB to CMYK when I open them? I convert maybe 50 photos per day, but there is no way to batch convert without disrupting my workflow. Best solution would be if there's a default setting for Photoshop so that whenever I open a photo, it is converted to CMYK automatically. Any ideas? Thanks so much!!!
Thank you, Pfaffenbichler. I'll look into developing a script.
I don't really "edit" images at all. I have to convert them from RGB to CMYK, and also check their resolution. But because I need to convert/check quickly, I can't simply hold and batch them. Most of the time I'm converting/checking perhaps 1-5 photos at a time, nothing more.

Photoshop Color Picker not popping up?
Whenever I click on the color picker in Photoshop CS5, it is defaulting to opening up the eyedropper tool instead of the color chooser option. The eyedropper tool is not working correctly either. Does anybody know what setting might be causing the issue?
You can right click on the tool to open the flyout which contains the other tools.
Try a tool reset:

Photoshop color field not working in color picker
My color field is not working properly in my color picker. How do you fix this?
WRONG (what my color picking is doing) :
CORRECT (how it should work) :The catchall first step in correction is to reset the tool which, in this case, is the Eyedropper.
With the Eyedropper chosen, right click here:
If that doesn't solve the problem, a logical next step would be to reset your Preferences.
To reset Preferences:
If Photoshop is already open on your screen, close it (Quit). Then hold down Shift+Ctrl+Alt (Win) / Shift+Command+Option (Mac) on your keyboard and start Photoshop.
A dialog box will pop up asking if you want to delete the existing Preferences file (the "Settings"). Click Yes in the dialog box. The existing Preferences file will be scrapped and a new one will be created. -
Color Conversion Problems between Illustrator and Photoshop (and Mac and PC)
Hi guys (and gals) Hope someone can help me here.
Got an issue working with a web design companywho when opening my eps logo file from Illustrator (I'm running all CS5.5 they're running CS4) into their version of Photoshop the color values are different. I'm not talking about 'not looking the same' but when clicking on the colors they have different numeric values. I'm running Mac OS X ad they're running a Windows based OS.
My Illustrator file is in RGB mode. It has an Adobe RGB profile attached to it. I've set the web design company's PC version of Photoshop color settings to Adobe RGB and preseve embedded profiles as a setting.
However the conversion issue still happens. Tried exporting my color palatte as a .ase swatch file and imorting a new swatch set into their Photoshop and still getting the different color values.
Anyone experienced this issue before? Am I missing changing a color/profile setting on one of the machines/software packages?
Any advice greatly appreciated.
Cheers

... my eps logo ..
Why are you using EPS? It is kind of outdated format these days.
EPS does not support color profiles. The default Save as EPS options in Illustrator include CMYK conversion which changes the values. To avoid this uncheck "Include CMYK Post Script" in the save options. Then when you open the file in Photoshop the RGB values will be the same and if you want it displayed the same, in Photoshop choose Edit > Assign Profile and choose the same profile - Adobe RGB in your case. The color settings in Photoshop will have no effect and can remain unchanged.
If you do that using the same computer the colors will be identical in values and appearance. If you do it on different computers the values will be the same and the color appearance will depend on if both computers have been calibrated to display colors accurately. -

Photoshop CS6 will not open any graphics files
Photoshop cs6 will not open graphic files, i have reset the settings. I get to see all the files in preview but when I try to open a file nothing happens, no error messages, no file opens, nothing.
When I use bridge I try to open the file with open in photoshop cs6 but again nothing happens. I found that if I reboot my PC photoshop will work correctly until I shut photoshop down but if I reopen it later before rebooting my pc now graphics files will open.Hi Sorry, getting my 2 machines confused. Photoshop works perfectly on the Mac, it is the PC with problem.

CMYK to RGB color conversion?
Hi,
I have to convert CMYK color array in the RGB color space and vice versa.
I am using the following code;-
UID colorUID = iDrawing->GetColorUID(kFalse);
UIDRef colourUIDRef(iDrawing->GetDataBase(), colorUID);
InterfacePtr<IColorData> colorData(colourUIDRef, UseDefaultIID());
char
strColor[16]={0};
if(colorData->GetColorSpace() == kPMCsCalRGB)
ColorArray rgbColor = Utils<IUIColorUtils>()->GetRGBColorValue(m_DB, colorUID);
sprintf(strColor,
"#%.2x%.2x%.2x", ToInt32(rgbColor[0] * 255), ToInt32(rgbColor[1] * 255), ToInt32(rgbColor[2] * 255));
else
ErrorCode errStatus = GetRGBColorStr(colourUIDRef, strColor);

}while(kFalse);

}while(kFalse);
return status;I did some experiments with Illustrator CS6 and the MacBeth RGB test chart and verified my results with Photoshop CS6. I discovered Illustrator is (mostly) doing what it should be doing, within a 1% error (probably rounding) on the output CMYK values. Here's a summary, in case anyone else needs this info:
Assuming the source file's elements are all untagged, when a mixed RGB/CMYK PDF is opened in Illustrator and CMYK mode is
chosen, Illustrator will use the profiles and rendering intent defined in
Color Settings to make the color conversions from RGB to CMYK. Thus, we
have control over the profiles used for this conversion.
If the RGB elements in the PDF file have embedded ICC profiles,
Illustrator will use the embedded ICC profile instead of the RGB profile
defined in Color Settings. This ONLY happens, however, if the PDF file
also includes the correct CMYK output intent profile.
If the PDF doesn't contain a CMYK output intent, Illustrator will fall
back on the Color Settings RGB profile for RGB->CMYK conversion. I believe it
would be more correct for Illustrator to use the embedded RGB profile and
the CMYK profile defined in Color Settings, but that's not how it seems to work.
If the PDF contains the incorrect CMYK output intent, Illustrator will
ignore the Color Settings and respect the embedded RGB and CMYK profiles
for the conversion, as might be expected. -
Photoshop Color Settings for Wide Gamut Monitor
Hey guys,
I have a wide gamut monitor (HP LP2475w) which has already been calibrated. My question isn't so much about that, but the settings I should be using inside of Photoshop (CS5). As far as color settings (ctrl+shift+k) goes, what am I supposed to use? I have sRGB as the rgb working space right now. (never use CMYK), Gray % Spot = dot gain 20%, and preserve profiles are ticked on for all 3. Am I supposed to be using Adobe RGB in RGB working space to get the most out of my monitor? I'm asking because it would be embarrassing if I had a wide gamut monitor and am working within a sRGB color cap. Please enlighten me with the proper photoshop color settings, so that it works well across the board (browser compatibility, etc)
As a FYI, I am a professional digital artist who specialize in illustrations for print campaigns. So far from what I've seen, whatever's been printed out of what I produce from this monitor has come out pretty much looking the same, so I'm not worried about that. Again, I just want to make sure I'm not careless and am using settings which doesn't make use of a wide gamut monitor.
Thanks for your input in advance!I think a lot of users believe that the Color Settings have much bigger role than what they actually do most of the time.
When working with images you have to be always aware about the color space the image is currently displayed in.
In Photoshop the displayed color space of an image is obtained in the following order of priority:
1. from the choice in View > Proof Setup menu when the View > Proof Colors is checked.
2. when the Proof Colors is off, from the embedded profile.
3. when the Proof Colors is off and when the image is without a color profile (untagged) from the Working Color space selected in the Color Settings.
This image shows how to check the color profile of an image - I keep it permanently on.
As you can see, the color spaces selected for working spaces in the Color settings affect the display of images only when they are untagged (without color profiles). The color settings also set the default choice of a color space when you create a new document but you can always select another color space form the Advance section of the dialog that appears when you choose File > New. You can also assign a color space to any image by using Edit > Assign Profile. So, if you never work with untagged images, you really don't need to care at all what your working spaces in your Color Settings are set to. You can use the Color Management Polices in the Color settings as a tool that will ask you what to do when you have profile mismatch when you paste. Personally I never use these because I'm always aware of the color space of the pasted content. Also the conversion method set in the Color Settings will be used when pasting. If you want different conversion method paste the content in a new document created with the color space of the clipboard content and then choose Edit > Convert to Profile and after that copy and paste in the desired document with the same color space. -
CS4 color management not working
Running under WinXP, 4GB RAM, nVIDIA GeForce 7600 GT with latest drivers:
The image display in CS4 is acting as if it were not color-aware.
Example: I open a file in which is in the ProPhoto RGB color space (and has that profile embedded) and the colors are not displayed correctly (muted and low contrast) -- the same appearance as opening such a file in a non-ICC-aware app like a browser.
Soft-proofing to sRGB does not change the appearance: colors are still wrong.
Converting to sRGB does not change the appearance while still in the dialog box -- even with Preview toggled on.
But upon executing the conversion to sRGB, the colors then appear correct -- again, as would be expected from a non-ICC-aware app.
CS3 running on the same system does not have this problem.to Chris Cox:
>"Tony - then you'll need to contact NVidia and ask them to fix the driver.."
I'll be happy to do so -- but to be effective in getting nVIDIA to accept responsibility for this problem, may I ask where you believe nVIDIA has done something which needs fixing?
a) Is there a relevant industry standard to which you believe nVIDIA is failing to comply?
b) Is there some specification published by nVIDIA to which you believe nVIDIA is failing to comply?
c) Is there any documentation published by Adobe (e.g., design guidelines for graphics cards manufacturers to assist them in making Photoshop-compatible products) to which you believe nVIDIA is failing to comply?
d) Are there specific generally-accepted good software engineering practices to which you believe nVIDIA is failing to comply?
>"As for your display color management: we haven't seen that. That sounds a lot like your display profile is wrong, but I'm not sure why it differs from CS3. Could you check your color settings in Photoshop and for the display again?"
These look right to me. Are there any specific settings you'd like me to report? -
Choosing profiles for forced RGB to CMYK color conversion
When a mixed RGB/CMYK PDF is opened in Illustrator CS6, Illustrator forces a conversion to one color space or the other. See this screenshot: http://imgur.com/sK8iEdn
I assume this is a limitation of Illustrator and there's no way to keep both color spaces. Under that assumption, Is it possible to choose the profiles used for the conversion from RGB to CMYK? Can Illustrator be made to use the RGB and CMYK profiles defined in its Color Settings to make this conversion?I did some experiments with Illustrator CS6 and the MacBeth RGB test chart and verified my results with Photoshop CS6. I discovered Illustrator is (mostly) doing what it should be doing, within a 1% error (probably rounding) on the output CMYK values. Here's a summary, in case anyone else needs this info:

RIP with same color conversion as Adobe
Hi
for the color conversion of our images and pdfs we use Photoshop and Idesign (What I´m talking about here is to put an input profile, a rendering intent, and a output profile).
99,99% of the time we use relative colorimetric with black point compensation to do the conversion. So we use those 2 applications as if they were rips.
I must say that we are very happy with the results.
What we are looking for right now is trying to automate that process.
We have been using a rip called Colorgate Productionserver 7. This rip have hot folder workflow (wich is what we want) BUT the color conversion is not the same as the one that Photoshop and Indesign have (using the same input profile, rendering intents and output profile).
We have been doing much testing with rgb images and we don´t like how this rip converts the images to the output profile.
It leaves the pure blacks a little bit more washed out than what the Adobe conversion would do and also if you send the image as a tiff file the rip respects the rendering intent of that queue and converts the image accordingly but when you send that SAME image inside a pdf (whether is cmyk or rgb) the rip WILL ALWAYS use the relative colorimetric conversion (without black point compensation) to do the color conversion regardless of the rendering intent that you have in that queue. Indesign honors embedded profiles, rendering intents and output profiles perfectly.
So what we are looking for is a hot folder-queue based rip that have a color conversion really similar (or the same if possible) as the one of Photoshop or Indesign and have the black point composition option in the rendering intent menu.
I don´t know if Adobe has a similar product or if it has licensed it´s color management to anyone.
Thank you
PalodislowHello Palo,
Colorgate has announced, that Productionserver 8 'utilizes the latest Adobe PDF Print
Engine (APPE) by default':
http://www.colorgate.com/en/rip-software/rip-software/productionserver-8.html?aktPos=20
May be you'll get then the desired 100% compatibility...
I am using version 6. I could stabilize my processes by simplifying the workflows for PDFs.:
Just one color space for RGB images, just one color space for CMYK components,
explicit assignment of the two profiles, explicit assignment of the two rendering intents.
No use of embedded profiles and hopefully no use of InDesign's general color settings,
which may be in contradiction to the settings in Productionserver. My InDesign PDFs
are generally made for Leave Colors Unchanged.
I had discussed some issues with Colorgate: printing of Lab components and printing
of images by K-only (black and gray inks). The company is cooperative, but it's obviously
impossible to clarify the extremely complex workflows just by post and e-mail.
My experiences, which are as well based on two other RIPs (years ago), are laid down
here, a preliminary version finished just now:
http://docs-hoffmann.de/cmsflow03072013.pdf
Please contact me eventually by private e-mail (last page of doc).

Photoshop cs5 is not appending file extensions
in previous versions, photoshop appended to the file extension in the fiel save/save as dialog box. it no longer does this and when you save a file it does not append the file extension to the file name, resulting in unknown fiel type.
i am running windows 7 64-bit with photoshp cs5.
it does not make any since to have the option of appending the file extension if the program is not going to do it.

The operating system has no problems with the filenames ... it is Photoshop that is not handling the names correctly.
Just tried this out on my Windows 7 64 bit system, and I get the same results using Photoshop.
When I save a file in Photoshop CS5 64 bit with the name 047. Crayon - Abstract the file is saved as 047. Crayon - Abstract without a file extension, no matter what document type I select in the drop-down.
In Word I get the expected result:
When I save a file in Word with the name 047. Crayon - Abstract the extension is automatically added (047. Crayon - Abstract.docx) -
Creative cloud photoshop blur tool not work as it should be
creative cloud photoshop blur tool not work as it should be !
I go to blur a painting i am doing and it does not blur enough and I am using wacom Intuos 5 med pen tablet.
and I even set the tablets sensitivty for pressure lower then default and still not getting the blur tool to do its job.
I even adjusted the brush settings too to be able to blur even more on hard settings, still nothing.
at least it not bluring enough to see any major changes.
the only way i can blur anything is by using the fliters blur or the brushes ( mixer brush ) settings to mix colors and do it that way.
(note) I will not post my systems specs sorry I don't do that and even the tech from adobe said I do not have to. and so I wont !
just need advise not to share system specs.
and thats what this forums board is for getting advice and read what others say about the issue at hand.
it's not to post or share system specs !!!
so with that out of the way I need advice only please ?Hi,
It might be your image is too big in terms of pixel dimensions for the blur tool to work well.
If you zoom to 100% do you see any change when using the blur tool?
What are the pixel dimensions of the image?
(Image>Image Size)
If you try a small image, does the blur tool work?
What about when you use the mouse instead of your tablet?
Can you at least tell us what operating system and version of photoshop your using? -
