Photoshop colors.

When I print from Photoshop, CS6, the colors print correct but are dull and matted looking.  If I open the same document in Adobe Reader it prints perfect.  I have drastically changed the settings in Photoshop to just try and get a change and its appears nothing really changes.  Please help!!!!

Thank you for the demeaning tone.  It's a w7 32bit system printer is a xerox color cube 9301.  I have tried changing the settings, when I say that I am assuming one would understand I have chosen cmyk and rbg neither really makes a difference.  I have allowed the printer to make the decision vs photoshop.  I have tried the various profiles in PS.  I would expect with such drastic changes, from one end of the spectrum to the other, to get more of a change besides A very very small change in the glossiness of the colors. Is there a setting that I have not come across in my reading that directly effects the appearance such as matte or glossiness.  Another machine with the identical setup prints the same picture exactly how it appears on the screen.  Could a display driver be the culprit?  I am not asking what settings I should have because I know the forum readers can't see my screen, what could cause such a difference between 2 machines and wouldn't one expect more of a change between profiles?

  • Edit With - Photoshop color shift

When using Edit With -> Photoshop with my 12 and 14-bit NEF files, the resulting file (after editing in PS) has a color shift. Same happens when I export a Version as 16-bit TIFF or PSD and then re-import it into Aperture.
I have tried it with 8-bit JPGs from camera, and the shift does not occur. Has anyone come across this problem and have a remedy? Your help would be greatly appreciated guys, thanks!

Ah, thanks for the tip. I've changed my Photoshop color settings to warn me when opening files with embedded color profiles. I simply choose to work in the embedded profile and upon saving and returning to Aperture, no longer notice any color shift. Thanks again!

  • Photoshop Color Settings for Wide Gamut Monitor

    Hey guys,
I have a wide gamut monitor (HP LP2475w) which has already been calibrated. My question isn't so much about that, but the settings I should be using inside of Photoshop (CS5). As far as color settings (ctrl+shift+k) goes, what am I supposed to use? I have sRGB as the rgb working space right now. (never use CMYK), Gray % Spot = dot gain 20%, and preserve profiles are ticked on for all 3. Am I supposed to be using Adobe RGB in RGB working space to get the most out of my monitor? I'm asking because it would be embarrassing if I had a wide gamut monitor and am working within a sRGB color cap. Please enlighten me with the proper photoshop color settings, so that it works well across the board (browser compatibility, etc)
As a FYI, I am a professional digital artist who specialize in illustrations for print campaigns. So far from what I've seen, whatever's been printed out of what I produce from this monitor has come out pretty much looking the same, so I'm not worried about that. Again, I just want to make sure I'm not careless and am using settings which doesn't make use of a wide gamut monitor.
Thanks for your input in advance!

I think a lot of users believe that the Color Settings have much bigger role than what they actually do most of the time.
When working with images you have to be always aware about the color space the image is currently displayed in.
In Photoshop the displayed color space of an image is obtained in  the following order of priority:
    1. from the choice in View > Proof Setup  menu when the View > Proof Colors is checked.
    2. when the Proof Colors is off,  from the embedded profile.
    3. when the Proof Colors is off and when  the image is without a  color   profile (untagged)  from the Working  Color space selected in  the  Color  Settings.
This image  shows how to check the color profile of an image - I keep it permanently on.
As you can see, the color spaces selected for working spaces in the  Color settings affect the display of images only when they are untagged (without color profiles). The color settings also set the default choice of a color space when you create a new document but you can always select another color space form the Advance section of the dialog that appears when you choose File > New. You can also assign a color space to any image by using Edit > Assign Profile. So, if you never work with untagged images, you really don't need to care at all what your working spaces in your Color Settings are set to. You can use the Color Management Polices in the Color settings as a tool that will ask you what to do when you have profile mismatch when you paste. Personally I never use these because I'm always aware of the color space of the pasted content. Also the conversion method set in the Color Settings will be used when pasting. If you want different conversion method paste the content in a new document created with the color space of the clipboard content and then choose Edit > Convert to Profile and after that copy and paste in the desired document with the same color space.

  • Photoshop color variables or text heading styles? are they possible?

I am desigining a template which I would like to make in 15-20 different colors. Is there a way to set a color as a variable say "color1" and then set color1 equal to some value, say "#334f74" and then any instance of "color1" would be updated when I changed the value. For example if I have 10 layers each with a color overlay in the blending options they would all be updated to match the new color.
Also, is there some sort of photoshop "heading" system similar to Word, where I can select font size color, aliasing, weight, spacing, etc and save it as a "heading", then assign that heading to my text boxes? So if I change the "heading" then anything using that heading type would be updated.
This all seems like it should be basic functionality for a professional tool like photoshop, but I have been playing around with the variable settings and whatnot and cannot figure it out.
    Thanks!

    Mylenium is right.
Not only is Photoshop an image editor, it is already bloated with additional features that are not needed if somebody has the correct application for the job.
We don't need more features, we need improvements on problem areas!

  • Bridge color & Photoshop color is wrong after calibration

    Hi guys...
I just can't figure this out...
    Here is what happen...
I am using iMac and CS3. I have been using Eye1Display2  to calibrate the iMac.
I have been doing that for a few years and there is no problem at all until about recently (2 weeks now). After I have calibrated the iMac, the color in Bridge and Photoshop is very wrong... all looks green after calibration (only on Adobe software and everything else looks ok). I try re-calibrate again for 5 times and restart the mac before I redo it and the result still the same.
    So any idea?
    Bad profile? spoilt calibrator?
    Regards,
    Hart

    * At the time this release note was written, the issue was not fully understood. As it happens, the issue with version 4 profiles was caused by a bug in ColorSync in the initial release of Snow Leopard. Apple responded quickly to the issue which was addressed in the OSX 10.6.2 update. i1Match does indeed build good version 4 ICC profiles on OSX 10.6.2 and 10.6.3, with preferences set to LUT (large) or matrix (small).
The issue was not an X Rite issue.  If the system was making good profiles before and then stopped, it could be a series of bad profiles or something as simple as a bad USB cable. The sensor could be toast in the puck. At any rate, OP should be able to find an old profile and make it current. That might tell them whether or not it's a hardware issue or a software glitch. I have the i1 pro, which has a diagnostic program. i1 display does too?
Or could it be something as simple as VIEW has switched Softproof?  What were you doing in Bridge or PS that you might have changed a setting?

  • Photoshop color settings - what is Photoshop doing?

Hello, I'm trying to understand how converting to different color profiles within Photoshop works.
What I'm trying to understand is why, when I have a document saved in with an embedded color profile of "Adobe RGB (1998)", when I *convert* the color profile to "Adobe RGB (1998)" (the same profile) the colors change dramatically. If I am converting to the same color profile, shouldn't the colors remain the same, and not change?
Please note, I'm not having any problems, just trying understand what Photoshop is doing. Thanks for any help!

This is what I'm seeing, the original image is on the left, the preview image is on the right. Once I click ok, I'm left with the original image. This happens consistently whenever I convert a color profile to itself. Thanks for all your help!

  • CS5 photoshop color shift problem

When I open or copy any image into photoshop, for some reason it changes the colors.  For example if I have an image that has blue text, when I open it in photoshop the text becomes purple.  Has anyone heard of this problem before?

What version of Windows are you running?
Let us know and I or someone can give you instructions for setting the color profile to Windows default (sRGB IEC61966-2.1) to test to see if the problem goes away.
    For example, in Windows 7:
Click Start, enter color management in the search box.
Click Color Management when it comes up.
    Click the Devices tab.
Check [ ] Use My Settings for this device.
Add sRGB IEC61966-2.1 and set it as the default profile.
Close out then log off Windows and on again.

  • HELP with sRGB in Photoshop Color Management Winows Vista

    Greetings beautiful Windows people!
I am stumped with a Windows Vista problem — it is not displaying sRGB properly.
I posted bigger files here if this is easier to follow
    http://www.gballard.net/windows_srgb/
    But here goes:
First, my main question is HOW Windows Vista deals with sRGB because I am seeing inconsistant sRGB color on a client's workflow.
    The first clue is:
How Photoshop is displaying Tagged sRGB on the two machines:
The original sRGB tagged file opens as above on my Mac.
Note: In the lower screen shots, Firefox has color-management enabled — and Photoshop's Working RGB is set to sRGB (it is using the sRGB embedded profile).
In the above Windows screenshot — Photoshop and Firefox look yellow — Explorer displays TAGGED sRGB correct — FireFox incorrectly matches Photoshop.
In the above Windows screenshot — Photoshop looks yellow — Explorer 8 and Firefox display UNTAGGED sRGB correct.
BECAUSE THIS IS CONTRARY TO THE THEORY, I suspected a bad profile so we loaded sRGB as the Monitor profile in the Windows Color Management setting.
Setting Windows Vista> Control Panel> Color Management: to sRGB fixed the problem (above, Photoshop is displaying the file correctly now, and sRGB is behaving as expected in both managed and unmanaged Web browsers).
However, I am clueless about two things:
Is Vista's "Color Management" Control Panel setting its Monitor RGB, or
Is Vista's "Color Management" Control Panel setting a DEFAULT RGB for the system?
I suspect the client has a bad hardware puck and/or buggy profiling package that needs an update because it appears to be even causing Photoshop to display sRGB improperly using the custom profile (and this is happening on eight of the client's Windows boxes).
He is using a glossy screen on the laptop I saw if his package can't handle it).
Can someone please clue me here as to what's going on (and how Vista should be set up to display sRGB consistantly in Photoshop and WEB BROWSERS)?

    Thank you Chris,
When I did windows update I must have checked to download new display drivers I'm using (Dell with Dell Screens).  It was loaded into the color settings as a profile, I hit delete and now all is well.

  • Printing from InDesign and Photoshop - colors don't match

I'm printing the same CMYK image from Photoshop and from InDesign, to a HP desktop color printer. I'm using CS3, all the color settings are identical in both programs, but the printed colors don't match. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    (cross-posted in InDesign forum)

I have had the same problem: an image printed from PS differs from the same image printed from ID. However, I can't very well print as bitmap from ID since the image is part of a spread, including text. I have tried various combinations of settings. I made the PS image to 100% of the ID final size (in the layout). I tried various print dialogue settings (high transparency flattener, medium transparency flattener, color managed, not color managed, CMYK output and leave unchanged ... every combination I could think of). ID does something on printer output. My understanding (at least from CS2) was that ID output to printer uses a PDF format of some sort. I had the idea maybe the ID output did some sort of resampling or re-rendering of the image, but have not prooved that out. I did get some slight improvement in the ID output when the image in the ID layout was put in at 100% (whereas it had been 88% (the original image being bigger than the ID layout size). What I am getting now in CS3 is a clean looking photo in PS, but in ID, skin tones look somewhat blotchy and a bit more saturated. The PS image is better than ID, and while ID is not bad, why is it not as clean as PS? I can definitely see the difference between PS and ID output and know it will show on press, too. Any suggestions?

  • Photoshop Color Picker Problem ... please read!

    Hi
I just installed Photoshop. When I try to choose a color, the colors are all messed up. I set the color mode to RGB and it still happens. The problem is that white appears light green. In the color picker, I see green fading to red fading to black.
It is not a monitor problem. All shades of grey (including white) show up in every other program - including the actual Photoshop application. It just happens in the color picker, and any shape or object I draw that is white, grey, or black.
    Here is an image:
    http://img138.imageshack.us/img138/6057/colorpickerrk3.png
    How can I fix this?
    Thanks
    Elliott

It's not a monitor problem, it's a monitor profile problem. The other mentioned apps are not color managed and do not use the monitor profile. Recalibrate but if you're using an eyeball type calibrator, do not use your existing profile as a starting point. Use a different monitor profile or even sRGB as a starting point. Harware calibration devices and programs do not need to do this as they clear the existing profile automatically.

  • Photoshop Color Picker not popping up?

Whenever I click on the color picker in Photoshop CS5, it is defaulting to opening up the eyedropper tool instead of the color chooser option. The eyedropper tool is not working correctly either. Does anybody know what setting might be causing the issue?

You can right click on the tool to open the flyout which contains the other tools.
    Try a tool reset:

  • Photoshop color field not working in color picker

My color field is not working properly in my color picker. How do you fix this?
WRONG (what my color picking is doing) :
CORRECT (how it should work) :

The catchall first step in correction is to reset the tool which, in this case, is the Eyedropper.
With the Eyedropper chosen, right click here:
If that doesn't solve the problem, a logical next step would be to reset your Preferences.
    To reset Preferences:
If Photoshop is already open on your screen, close it (Quit). Then hold down Shift+Ctrl+Alt (Win) / Shift+Command+Option (Mac) on your keyboard and start Photoshop.
A dialog box will pop up asking if you want to delete the existing Preferences file (the "Settings"). Click Yes in the dialog box. The existing Preferences file will be scrapped and a new one will be created.

  • Photoshop color profiles

When saving files in photoshop, should you embed a color profile and if so, which profile is recommended for printing 4 color process printing?

When saving files in photoshop, should you embed a color profile
typically, yes, (saving for the Internet is a different set of rules)
which profile is recommended for printing 4 color process printing?
it depends if you are talking about a final destination space: CMYK
or an inkjet printer workflow that the print utility converts to a specific print/paper/ink profile...

  • Photoshop coloring and layer group issue

Hello there this is my very first post but I really need some advice here.
I am using WIndows 7, I have Photoshop CS5.5 and am improving a bit in my digital illustration/coloring. I was experimenting with organization by using layer groups. When I did this and began to work on the colors, I noticed them behaving very poorly. For one thing, they always came out brighter than I intended. No matter how I tried to darken the colors, they always either fixed to a certain tint or just got brighter when I tried to darken them. I noticed them interacting with the colors on all of the other layers, even with layers outside of the group. So to get around that I tried erasing wherever colors overlapped. This did not help, it only removed the mixing of colors, I still have really bright colors on everything I paint. I did notice though that when outside of a layer group, all of the colors behaved normally! Yes I know I can just keep the colors out of the group folder to fix the problem, but I want to learn from this experience. Why do the colors misbehave within layer groups? Why do they respond with a transparent nature(for lack of a better term)? And is there a way around that?
I did check the opacity of everything and everything was at 100%. I did checkk the blending mode of the group and the individual layers, I had them all set to normal.

    Hi CorbinWells
It sounds like your brush mode may have been changed to screen or brighten. It sould be set to normal to get your desired results.
I understand that you said all your layers and groups are set to normal. So I the above solution might help. If not, please attach some screenshots so we can understand more what's going on.

  • Photoshop Color Management

    Hi all,
I've noticed a small issue (that is probably my fault).  My color settings for some reason are all off.
When I open a document in my OS preview the colors are as they should be.  When I open that same document in Photoshop the colors are all de-saturated and muted.  When I use "Save for web" which gives me a preview the colors go back to and save as correctly as they looked in the OS preview.
What's going on here and how can I make Photoshop open the images as they should be with no color alteration.  In my color profile settings the only one that comes close is if i change it to "Monitor Colors"
    Thanks again in advance!
    -Patrick

    Thank you Chris,
When I did windows update I must have checked to download new display drivers I'm using (Dell with Dell Screens).  It was loaded into the color settings as a profile, I hit delete and now all is well.

  • Photoshop Colors doesn't work..:(

    Hi,
I'm using Photoshop CS6 Extended version. I'm unable to use the colors. When I select any color, it defaults to the Grey for both foreground and the background. I have tried to use the brush as well as the font with not success. Please help!! Below is the screen shot.
    Thanks in advance.

Oh! Nevermind. I was able to resolve it myself.
I just closed and re-opened the applications couple of times and now I'm able to select the color which I wished..:)
    Thanks anyway, Chris.
