Photoshop Compatibility

I am using an iMAC 2.4 GHz Intel and running Photoshop CS3. When I try to use the "Save As" function, the "Save" button is grayed out when using the Adobe Dialog box. When I click on the "Use OS Dialog" button the "Save" button becomes active again.
This is not an issue with the MAC Pro Tower I use at work running the same OS and programs. Only difference is more RAM at work MAC than home iMAC.
Any reason why it works in one and not the other? Do I need more RAM? Using the standard, out of the box, setup.
Thanks!

It's not a RAM problem but if you only have 1GB, more would definitely perform better. I have not come across this problem on any of the iMacs I work on even an old G4 works fine. The only thing I can think of is that the default save location that pops up may be somewhere that you do not have permission to save to. Though that would be weird because on mine the Adobe Dialog and OS Dialog both start off at the same folder location. When it's grayed out can you navigate to any folders and it becomes active?

  • CS5 photoshop compatibility and iMac upgrades to higher than OS 10.6.8.

CS5 photoshop version 12.0 x64 running ok on iMac OS 10.6.8.  How far can I go upgrading my OS and still be compatible with my version of CS5?

    Gene,
Thank for responding, and the information you provided.  I have not yet made a decision regarding whether to upgrade or not, but it is reassuring to know that I can safely go to 10.9.

  • Old version of photoshop compatibility with new Windows 8

Will Photoshop Elements 2 install correctly in Widows 8.1?

Photoshop elements 2 should work on windows 8.1 as long as your hard drive isn't bigger than 1 TB.
Pse 2 can't see hard drives that are bigger and/or have more than 1 TB of free space.
How big is the hard drive on your new computer?

  • PhotoShop compatibility w/Mtn Lion - need input please  =)

PhotoShop compatibilityQuestion for you lovely peeps:  I'm upgrading to the newest MacBook Pro this week and wondered what the Earliest version of PhotoShop is compatible w/Mtn Lion? I'm no longer a gr.designer by trade, and don't need "all" the bells/whistles but Love PS and being an artist !! =)  Just didn't think I needed to drop $700 on the latest greatest when I don't use it like I used to in that business. My current laptop is an older MacBook running an old OS obviously and it's time to upgrade all my favorite software.  Thank you much!

  • Lightroom 3: Edit in Photoshop CS5 no longer saves a copy as TIFF for editing

    Hi,
I have Lightroom 3 (LR3) and Photoshop CS5 (non Extended) and Snow  Leopard on OSX.  Both LR3 and CS5 are filly updated.  CS5 updated with  Camera Raw 6.1.
On one day, when I tell LR3 to "Edit in Photoshop" it would save a copy  of the NEF with current LR3 settings as a TIFF and I can edit it in  Photoshop as a TIFF.  I would see a progress indicator in LR3 that show  it saving a copy as a TIFF.
The next day, this stopped working.  It goes directly to Photoshop and  opens the NEF itself.   It's is completely ignoring the LR3 settings in  External Handling tab.
Strangely, when I "save" this NEF in Photoshop, a TIFF is created back in LR3.  That threw me off completely from LR2.7
Has anybody encountered this?  Does LR3 skip telling you if you want to save as TIFF now if you have the latest LR and CS?
    Thank you.

What you describe as abnormal is how things are supposed to work:
If the RAW engines match (where LR3 and ACR 6.1 do), then LR just tells PS what the "conversion recipe" is and PS tells ACR to silently open it with that "recipe" so it doesn't have to be rendered to TIF or PSD on the way into PS.
If the RAW engine of PS (ACR's version) is too odl to understand all the LR adjustments then LR knows this and will render to an intermediate file on the way into PS.  This also happens if you use some other third-party photo-editor that can't use ACR to open the file.
On Windows, at least, there is a way to make LR render to TIF/PSD on the way into Photoshop, I fyou create a duplicate copy of the EXE and rename it to PhotoshopX.exe or some other name that LR doesn't recognize as Photoshop, then LR thinks it is a third-party editor and renders an intermediate file.
What might have happened is that you updated to ACR 6.1 or maybe PS 12.0.1 which caused LR to re-evaluate the Photoshop compatibility and it determined it was fully compatible and didn't render to an intermediate file on the way in.
Since Photoshop is a bitmap editor, it has to save as something other than the RAW file on the way out, and LR will see that Save occur and import it automatically.
    Does that all make sense?

  • Photoshop frustration!

Hi there, I've just bought my first mac having had pc's for donkeys years and am loving it, except... I bought photoshop 6 for mac and photoshop cs2 upgrade, but ps6 won't install... so now I have an upgrade and nothing to upgrade from. Does photoshop 7 work on intel based macs? I have ps 7 on my pc, but I guess that doesn't count....
If anyone can help me out as far as photoshop compatibility and intel macs is concerned I'd be really grateful. Plus any useful tips...
    Thanks
    20" intel iMac   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

CS-2 does work on Intel Macs, but since it was programmed for the previous PPC processor (not Intel) it runs in an emulation mode called Rosetta, which effectively halves its speed an increases memory requirements by up to 50%.
Adobe have a beta (pre-release) version of PS for Intel which registered users can install. This will run faster and use less memory than the PPC CS-2 version.
Since you own the CS-2 version, you should be able to get the beta Intel version.

  • Photoshop Lightroom Camera Raw Issues

I just purchased Lightroom 5 (not the CC version, I bought mine through Amazon).  I was editing a photo in Lightroom and wanted to open it in Photoshop.  A message said that Camera Raw 8.2 was required and when the photo opened in PS some of the LR editing wasn't there.  So I tried to install the most current Camera Raw (8.7) and my Mac says it's installed, but Photoshop still indicates that the older plugin is there and my issues with Lightroom Photoshop compatibility continue.  I use PS 5.  How can I solve this problem??  I've closed and reopened everything.

"Photoshop 5 doesn't even have ACR."
Well that's odd because the Camera plugin I have says Adobe Photoshop Camera Raw 6.7.  Regardless, I suspected it was because of my PS 5.  Is there no way I can upgrade to PS 6 without going to CC?  Because I think it's pretty ****** to stop selling the software and make Adobe customers pay an ongoing fee.

  • Working with Photoshop files within FCP

Did anybody havinga problem with the psd file? I created some layers (20 to 40) in Photoshop, then import it in FCP. Find out some of the layer's position is shifted just a little bit. Any of you experts know why? Thanks.

Blimey! What a pain in the butt!
Mmm... I really don't know about PC -MAC photoshop compatibility...
Whenever I use photoshop for FCP freeze frames, layers etc, I always crop my final photoshop image to the edge of canvas, even if everything i created is within the screen space... When you reposition a layer in photoshop, even if its just a tiny amount, to get your image looking the way you want it, the alpha channel still exists, which will now be outside of your 720x576 boundery. You could have a tiny image in the centre of the picture, and maybe move it a little bit to get its position just right, but the alpha channel is still part of that whole image... I don't know... i might be leading you down the wrong track here...especially if you have the same problem after rendering!!! that's just bizarre!!!

  • Vector image question

Hi all, I'm doing a brochure and in it I have a long rectangle with gradient in it (railroad rail) and I went to Edit > Convert to Profile > Working CMYK and then rasterized the image to work on it. Given that I've rasterized it now, does that mean I should save it as TIF or PSD or still go ahead and save as PDF? Want to make sure.

You can go ahead and save it as  TIFF or PSD, providing there are no other vector elements in the file.
If there are then save it as a PDF.
TIFF, PSD are raster only formats. Even if you have text layers and vector shapes and masks they are output as raster.
EPS - will output rasters and vector, but if you open that EPS again everything is flattened, layers and all, everything is rasterised (avoid EPS where possible)
PDF - will output vector masks, vector shapes and text layers, along with raster elements as it's in a nice little wrapper. Choosing to save it with Photoshop Compatibility will allow you to open the PDF again in Photoshop to make edits to the vector shapes, vector masks and text layers along with any other raster elements.
I think that's what you were asking?

  • Image group duplication issue

Im running aperture 2.1.3 with an all Aperture managed library.
I have a problem where i have some images in a 'Project' which have 3 versions (one original, one Aperture adjustments, one Photoshop clipped version)
When I moved these images into an 'Album' each image group (master and its 2 versions) get duplicated 3 or 4 times!
So i end up with 3or4 groups of 3. Instead of just the one group of 3.
    Now the really weird bit...
At first I thought Id caught a shortcut key or something but then I realised that the 'extra' images didnt show how many there were in the group until I moused over the image, and '3' would appear and stay there until I exited and reentered the project.
Also when I select an image from the group of three - the same image is selected in these other replica groups.
I have over 18000 images in my library and over 80 projects with a few hundread Album/folders etc. So I do rely on it working accurately and I'm not doing anything unusual to what I normally do (and.. yes photoshop compat is ticked after I clip and save back into ap)
Please can any shed any light on the problem?
    Thanks

    Ok found a quick fix.
Create a new project folder, then drag all the images into it.
    This fixed it for me.
After that i deleted the old folder and quit aperture. Finally I just changed the project name back to what it originally should have been.

  • CS4 Saving to PDF destroys layers

In CS3, there was an 'export to pdf' which just converted the PSD to PDF.
Now in CS4, the option is under 'save as'. The problem is when I am doing a job and want to get approval, I like to generate a low res PDF WITHOUT the option of 'preserving photoshop editing capabilities'. Otherwise, I get aa huge file.
The problem is, the document in Photoshop is now a PDF and although the layers are still showing in the layers pallet, if at that point, I do any more editing or just try to save it as a PSD, the image is automatically flattened, without any warning. I managed to lose all my work by saving AFTER I created the small PDF.
why has adobe chosen to change the working document to PDF? If I save as a jpg, the document remains as a PSD file. This is very frustrating. I much prefer the export to PDF in the CS3 version.
If CS4 is doing this, it should at least generate a warning that all layers will be merged at that time.

As far as I remember PDF has always been a save feature in Photoshop and
if you take the time to look at all the options you'll see a save with
    Photoshop compatibility.
I usually just use the save a copy command.

  • Photoshop CC compatibility macbook pro 10.6.8

    Hello
I have a macbook pro mid 2010 (originally 10.6.8 - now mavericks) which means that I only have 256 of VRAM on my NVIDIA graphic card and 288 on the built in Intel graphic card. I can see on the requirements page (Systemkrav | Photoshop) that Photoshop CC requires at least 512 MB VRAM.
Does this mean that it is useless for me to have Photoshop CC with my graphic card? Or will it work fine with normal image retouching and does this bad compatibility only have a say with 3D images? When I first opened photoshop CC it promted me with something like - the OpenGL has been disabled.. and something about 3D images.
(OR does the 2 graphic cards together make up my available VRAM? that is 256+288 = 544 VRAM? Forgive me if this is a silly question.. I don't know much about grpahic cards!)
Hope someone with more computer skills than me can answer my question

You can use Photoshop CC on that system, but you won't have access to the 3D tools, or all the advanced GPU features.
No, VRAM is not additive across multiple cards.

  • Is adobe photoshop cs2 compatable with windows 8?

Is adobe photoshop CS2 compatable with windows 8?

I have removed and re-installed CS2 twice now and still get the same library application error.
DO NOT INSTALL WINDOWS 8 ONTO YOUR COMPUTER IF YOU WANT TO KEEP CS2!
Telling us to spend more money to upgrade our software to meet OS does not show trust to the users. CS2 should be able to work with new OS systems and if not users should be allowed to update their current program for free to be able to use it on the new OS.
    Thank you,
    Eric
