Photoshop cs 5 brushes

hi there
after a reinstall due to computer mucking up, im having a strange action happen when i save my brushes.
when ever i save a brush instead of automatcially going to c:/program fils/adobe/photoshop cs5/presets/brushes ( etc...)
they want to save in
"C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS5\Presets\Brushes"
wich is NOT the right folder (as their are no brushes there- and if i save them their they dont load in photoshop next time its started) and i have to manualy go to program folder/adobe/ etc etc etc...
ahhh HELP! why are they saving in the wrong folder and how do i get them to save where they are meant to with out manually entering them

That is the correct folder for the default, and they will load the next time you launch if you save them there.
Basically, Microsoft no longer wants files written into the application folder, but wants them under your user data (USERNAME/AppData/Roaming/...), and only wants the applicaiton folder modifiable by the system administrator.
Yes, it's not very convenient, but that's how the Microsoft guidelines currently read.  (Apple is doing something similar, just without so much useful guidelines)

  • Photoshop CS5.1 brush scroll panel issue

    Hello everyone,
Since last week I've been getting problems with photoshop. The brush panel has problems with scrolling, I have tried to fix it by doing a system restore, downgrading my video drivers and reinstalling photoshop. I also have tried to search for other people with the same problems. Unfortunatly, nobody seems to deal with this issue. I am suspecting that it is a problem within windows that is preventing photoshop from working normally... But I am not sure.
I also recorded the problem and posted it on youtube, here is the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g9LZgYjDGAI
    Now, onto discribing the problem:
When I open photoshop this problem occurs right away, however... one panel always will work properly, this tends to switch constantly... When I try to switch between the two panels they start showing problems...
It happens every time that I open photoshop, but there are times where somehow, they work normally. It is very rare though.
I also tried to try and use Photoshop CS5 x64bit, but it crashes the moment it finishes loading.
I am using an:  ASUS K73SV-TY081V notebook
OS:                     64-bit Windows 7 home premium
    Processor:           Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2630QM CPU @ 2.00GHz
    RAM:                   4 GB
Graphics Card:     Nvidia Geforce GT 540M
Is there anybody who deals or has dealt with the same or similar problems?

    Hello Noel,
Thank you for the help, It gave me an idea of how I could test it, so I switched the graphics to my omboard card and photoshop works fine now.
It is indeed the drivers of the Nvidia card, I tested the last two driver up-dates which didn't seem to work so I will keep looking.
Thank you again for the help!

  • Is it possible to soften photoshops built in brushes

With Photoshops default round brush the user can adjust the hardness / softness of the brush.
Is there a way to soften any of the many other brush shapes that come in the brush pane.
There are lots of great brush shapes, but if they can only be used at 100% hardness, well, doesn't that severaly limit the scope of the brushes usefullness?
    Thx - JeffN

Using a gau-blur after each stroke is a slow process.

Sounds like you know the program better than some of the regulars here.  Best I can think of off the top of my head, is to use Gausian blur at a level slightly less than needed fpr the brush sizes you typically work with, then asign a single Function key to an Action that either does a Cmd f (You have to be a Mac use to go back that far) to repeat the last filter, so you could build with repeated hits of that Function key.  But that is less than ideal, because it operates on the whole layer.
I tried to make Fade work to soften the last brush stroke, but I couldn't make it do anything other than Opacity, and none of the blend options help.
How about asking in the Scripting forum?  There some really clever people over there who might at least provide a means to blur just the last stroke and not the entire layer.  It's an interesting problem though, and I'll keep on thinking about it.
Check out some of the Wacom airbrush presets.  Some of them do have a 'hardness' slider, but I don't think it's what you want.  But you can adjust spatter size and amount, plus granularity, to get a lot of control of the texture you lay down, and get more control with brush pressure.  We are all having to second guess exactly what look you are trying to achieve.  Perhaps you could upload a non client example?
[EDIT]  I should have added to have the brush panel open and the Tip Shape tab selected.

  • Photoshop Elements 9 Brush / Color Picker Problem

    Hello,
I have been using Photoshop Elements 9 for more than a year, and recently I have been experiencing a glitch/malfunction of some sort with the color picker and hard mechanical brush tool.
As you can see in my example above, there are two things wrong: 1.) When the brush is painted, little grey crescents appear between the individual strokes of the brush. These appear even when I do not release the mouse button when painting. However, it only happens on a specific layer, and not on any other layer - in this case the layer entitled 'skin'.
The second malfunction is the color picker/foreground and background colors. As you can see, the foreground color selected in the example does not match the last color I painted (color splotch to the far left). The color that was actually painted was a far more saturated version of the selected color. Again, this only occurs on the 'skin' layer as well.
(My brush settings are: Fade: 0 Hue Jitter: 0 Scatter: 0 Spacing: 1 Hardness: 100)
Though these "glitches" are occurring often recently, I have found a temporary solution. Switching to another layer, then painting on it, then switching back to the malfunctioning layer seems to temporarily rid me of this issue. Yet and still, I would appreciate any permanent solution suggestions.
    Thanks,
    - Illustrator

Delete the editor's preferences: quit it, then restart it (use the button in the welcome screen or organizer) while holding down ctrl+alt+shift. Keep the keys down till you see a window asking if you want to delete the settings file. You do.

  • Photoshop Elements 7 brush help is needed.

I still need help with this problem:
My photoshop brush is messed up as shown in these pictures:
As you see my brush seems bumpy especially when in a bigger px.
When in a smaller px (like 1) it's still bumpy but before it was spacing/ it still does it now. (only for 1 px does it space)
Before this started happening I added brushes and some other things to it (could this be the problem?)
I deleted all the brushes (one may still be their?) Should I delete the other things to?
This is my secound post for this problem (the first one I accidentally put assumed answer)
    Also some other things:
I already have resetted Pse 7/ deleted prefference about 6 different times.
I have resetted the tools + messed around with the additional tools options.
As you see in this Image it seems that the brush is faded (hence the spaces for 1 px?) but I do not have the fade on.
(Btw, this is for the default brush while the other one (on top, right) is for basic brush)
I have also mesed with the size of image but when it's zoomed out or in it looks better but still slightly bumpy.
I need the picture size to be 10 x 8 in especially for school work.
(The two first pics aren't 10 x 8 but different since I had resseted Pse (Even in 10x8 it's still bumpy/ odd)
Anyway if anyone can help please reply as soon as quickly and Thanks.

    Hi Seki,
Actually the brush stroke is not actually spacing as you see it in the preview. You can check it out by zooming into the image. When you will zoom in you will actually see that the strokes are not spaced. It looks like as though the brush stroke is space because  you have set  brush size to very less 1 pixel and your image resolution is too high . That is why the brush stroke looks spaced but  actually it is not.
Do reply if you face any other issues.
    Thanks,

  • Photoshop CS5.5 Brush Transfer / Opacity won't Disable

Now, I assure you, I have tried to disable this feature several times in a row, but as soon as I change the Opacity Jitter to "Off" and start painting, it turns on again.  I tried unchecking "Transfer" all together without any luck.  Even the brush preview on the pallet show opacity linked to pressure.  Attached is a picture of my pallet.
How do I fix this?  Can I submit this as a bug?
    Stats:
    Photoshop CS5.5 v12.1 x64 , Windows 7 x64, Cintiq 21UX  with 6.1.6-7 driver.

Make sure you don't have The override for brush opacity enabled in the tool options bar.

  • Photoshop CS5 Dual brushes

It seems that Photoshop CS5 doesn't display the dual brush that is selected when you select a brush from the libraries. It indicates there should be a dual brush by a tick but no brush tip is selected.
Am I missing something or is this just a bug that needs sorting out still?
    Thanks

    SSprengel's right.
What kind of video card do you have?  It's always a good idea to check the web site of the maker of your video card to see if they have released updated drivers.
I run Photoshop CS5 across two 1600 x 1200 monitors, by the way, without problems.

  • Photoshop CS5 strange brush jumping bug

Strange brush bug with Photoshop CS5 Extended English (Updated to 12.0.2 latest).
Youtube link of my screen recording
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UxwUi35TMYo
When  I first start (quick) brushing on top right, the strokes appear at bottom  right.... No shape dynamics, no scattering, just plain soft round brush  in black. If I stroke slowly, the behavior is OK.
This is very frustrating and appears very often for me if stroke quickly, so I can't use smudge which is often done quickly.
Windows 7 (Simplified Chinese). Nvidia GTS 450 but OpenGL has been disabled. Graphic driver updated to latest. No brush scattering, no shape dynamics.
    Please help, thanks in advance.

This subject shows up here from time to time.
Unfortunately, I don't recall reading about any specific fix that works.
Usually the advice is update video drivers, check all other software running on the system for possible interference, change wireless mouse batteries, try a wired mouse, completely remove mouse or tablet drivers and reinstall, make sure nothing is moving over an unused trackpad, etc.
Perhaps it would help if you listed your OS and what input device you're using.

  • Clicking on Photoshop CS5 preset brushes closes down Photoshop. Help!

Whilst I am working in Photoshop, if I click on the preset brushes toggle or open the brushes and click on one of the preset brushes a message appears saying that there has been a problem with Photoshop and very promptly the application closes causing me to loose my work. Is this happening to anyone else? Is there an update or a 'bug-zapper' (my own technical term!) I can use?!  Thanks for your help.

Update your graphics driver and/or turn off OpenGl in the prefs.

  • Photoshop CS4 Windows Brush Image Distortion

I have an old version of Photoshop 6 and have downloaded a trial version of CS4 but when I make the brush larger the full circle turns into a small arc. Does anyone know what is going on here? It is very annoying and so much so, I may not purchase. I have plenty of RAM... 2 gig and an Nvidia GeForce Go 7900 GS graphics card with 256mg.

Yes, update your graphic card drivers. The latest for the 7900GS is 178.24.
If that does not resolve the problem you will have to contact NVIDIA for a fix.

  • Photoshop Elements 9 brushes all messed up again

I am Not on the pencil tool that has nothing to do with it. Resetting my photoshop settings completely did not help. Thank you very much.
Normally when I'm using photoshop with my tablet my brush preview is shaped like a sideways diamond so basically it is really thick in the middle and wisps off at the ends on the preview. It's a normal brush that came with the photoshop and I've been using it ever since. Now it is a flat line with rounded edges for a preview and the brush is totally different. I don't really know how to explain the difference between the brushes but they are....and it's not that I'm on a different brush ALL of my brushes has this diamond preview and now NONE of them do and they are driving me crazy because I want my old brush back and I don't know how to get it back. If anybody else has had this problem please let me know how to fix it!

    Hey ,
Are you still finding the issue then try choosing a different brush preset. A new brush preset you would find in  the option bar of the tool you are using. Please tell  the tool with which you face the problem. If you can attach the snapshot of the brush preview then it would be easier to resolve.
    Thanks,

  • Photoshop CS smudge brush no longer smudges

    Version of Photoshop: CS (8)
    OS: Vista home
    RAM: 2 gigs
    Free Space: 29.7 gigs
    Video card: Nvidia
The problem I am having is my smudge brush will no long smudge, all it does is color with whatever color I currently have selected. I ran into this problem last night when switching between brushes (from a soft brush to a shaped brush), and as soon as I switched, the smudge brush no longer worked as it was supposed to. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling photoshop (including restarting my system), and it reinstall with everything as it was even if everything was completely removed.
I am confused as to the original issue, as well as how to fix the problem of it installing with everything as it was before I uninstalled Photoshop.
If anyone has a fix for either of these issues, I would be very grateful!

Have you tried resetting the tool?

  • Photoshop CS 5 - Brushes have unwanted pixels they never had before

    Hi there
Since a few days, most of my brushes have ugly pixels they never had before.
The pixels show up outside the contours of the brushes.
I'll give you some examples here:
On the screenshot you'll see that some of the thumbnails already show the extra squares I mean...
    How can I solve this?

    So guys,
Today the problem showed up again, and I know what causes it now!
After importing a large .psd-file in my poster .psd-file, some other layers in the file turned quite black and with countable pixels.
After "undo place image" and closing the file (without saving), it looked like there were parts of layers missing when I opened it again.
Afterwards I opened my Photoshop again and noticed that in the VIEW menu, I could click "monitor RGB", this solved the whole thing.
    Have a nice weekend!
