Photoshop CS 5 Workspace

At some point during my session, the workspace icons get greyed out and I unable to change workspaces. The entries under Window/Workspace are similiarly greyed out too. I'm bever sure what caused it to happen. What can I do to resiolve this ?
Thanks
Tonyu

Thanks Charles,
That was the answer. I'd love to know their though process was in coming up with that decision. Perhaps they assumed when a user was in full screen, a decision about workspace had been made and would not be altered.

Where are Photoshop User Customized Workspaces Saved?

not right in front of me right now, but in documents and settings\yourusername\application data\adobe.... somewhere in there is a folder called something like "workspace settings". you need to have view hidden files and folders and view system files turned on in explorer's tools menu to view the application data folder structure.

  • How do I get my workspace to snap onto the side of my screen in Photoshop 6?

I'm not even sure how to really ask this, but here goes.  When I first installed Photoshop 6, my Workspace was snapped into the right side of the screen; it was attached to that side.  Somehow I have managed to pull it off there, and I would really like to put it back, but I can't figure out how.  I'm including a screen shot, since I'm sure I'm not describing the problem well at all.  Thanks for any help!

You can also click on the the Essentials and choose Reset Essentials from the drop-down list.
Then once you customize your workspace, you can click on the drop-down again and choose New Workspace to save your panel locations.
If that ever happens again, then simiply choose your saved workspace or reset your workspace.

  • Photoshop CS2, after normal quitting, "Unexpectedly Quit" window appears

I use Photoshop CS2 on a PPC G4 Dual MDD with 1GB RAM and MacOSX 10.4.11. For the past 2 months, every time I normally quit Photoshop CS2, with the app disappearing from the dock and it seems to have finished, in about 6 seconds, a window pops up saying "The application Photoshop has unexpectedly quit" with three buttons: restart, report or close. I have clicked on the "Report" button and sent the report to Apple several times, with what I was doing at the time, but have not received any messages from Apple. I don't know why this window pops up now, all of a sudden, as it never occurred before. Now, I usually just click on the "Close" button in that window and go about my business.
Can anyone explain what might be causing this window to appear, after normally quitting Photoshop, and how to fix it to stop it from happening? And, should I copy the report, generated and sent to Apple, and send it on to Adobe for their look-see? Who would I send it to?
    Thank you

  • Photoshop elements editor does not open

I had photoshop elements 12 for windows working fine on windows 7 professional 64 bit .   Then recently attempted to  install the12.1 upgrade which failed with the usual lack of any useful information.
I removed elements, rebooted, reinstalled, rebooted, ran the update successfully, rebooted and now, as has been since the upgrade attempt, the editor won't start.  If I right click a photo in the organizer and pick edit, I get a message "Loading the Adobe Photoshop Elements Editor Workspace..." for a couple of minutes, the message disappears, and no editor appears.
How do I diagnose and fix?

Before anybody asks, no the editor won't open from the startup screen nor from the right click menu when displaying a folder with pictures.

  • How do I migrate my workspaces?

The word from Adobe last year: "The Photoshop CC Sync Settings feature does not currently support workspaces. It is on our list of feature requests to include at high priority."
Too bad about anything that was medium or low priority then if high priority doesn't even get a look in.
I spent ages recreating my workspaces when I updated from CS6 to CC. And now it looks like I'm going to have to do it all over again for 2014.
This is not at all what I would have expected when Adobe announced that one of the "four key areas of the Creative Cloud" they would be focusing on is "workflow efficiency".
    So, any workarounds?

Thanks. Not very straightforward though. I had to update them on one machine then copy the files from Users/[me]/AppData/Roaming/Adobe/Adobe Photoshop CC/Adobe Photoshop CC Settings/Workspaces to the other machine because they won't sync.

  • Workspace missing

I created a Workspace in PsCC on my desktop
I have PsCC on my Laptop as well but that Workspace is not on it; and I don't remember how I created it.  Is  there a way to import a workspace from a PsCC on another computer.
Isn't PsCC always be in sync with copies on other machines, on the same network.

Workspaces are saved in you Photoshop Preferences.  You may want to sync the activated Photoshop with the workspace to the cloud the sync the activated photoshop without the workspace  from the cloud.

  • PS CC won't save a custom workspace.

PS CC won't save a custom workspace. Nothing happens. In addition, I get a "Can't apply workspace because of a system error" when i try to view the What's New workspace. Just downloaded the CC today. Mac 10.7.5, 3.4 GHz processor, 16GB RAM. Thanks for any help!

I have the same problem, each time I open Photoshop CC my workspace from last time is not saved.
Very annoying beacuse I have to reload my swatches etc.

  • Painting Workspace issue

We are using Photoshop CS5 on macbookpros running snow leapard and recently we have noticed an odd issue.  When we start up photoshop the Painting workspace tab (on the top where the control panel and application bar are) is momentarily corrupted, scrambled, and pixelated (a bunch of different colored scrambled pixels--looks like a corrupt image).  Eventually, a clear painting workspace tab loads but it takes a while.  Is this normal?
The other things we noticed is that this only happens when we switch to the painting workspace or when we start photoshop with the painting workspace loaded as the default.  It does not happen when the other workspaces (design, photography, etc. are loaded).
We also tried deleting the preferences files and rebuilding them but this did not fix the problem.  Just wondering if this is normal thing or if there is some kind of file corruption or something wrong with the program.
    THanks

    Thanks for the response:
    The Video Card Specs:
AMD Radeon HD 6750M Graphics processor with 1GB of GDDR5 memory and
Intel HD Graphics 300 with 384MB of DDR3 SDRAM shared with main memory
There is Automatic Graphic Switching between these two
    The Software Details:
    OSX 10.6 Snow Leopard
    Photoshop CS5
After doing research I am not sure if this issue is caused by:
    1. upgrading the drivers of the graphics cards
    2. upgrading photoshop to the 12.04 update
    3. upgrading OSX snow Leopard to 10.6.5
I basically have to do this on multiple computers so I am trying to pinpoint the cause so that I don't cause stress or work delays for others.

  • CS4 Workspace issue

The biggest, most annoying glitch I live with daily in Photoshop CS4 is the fact that my workspace will not stay the way I want it.  I have it set up as follows:  navigator & Info at the top, color & swatches next, Character & Paragraph next, History & Actions next, and Layers, Channels, & Paths at the bottom -- all lined up evenly on the right hand side of Photoshop.
Every time I "minimize" Photoshop, then open it up again, the Color/Swatches and History/Actions windows have stretched out much longer than I want them, and the Layers window has shrunk way down.  This really sucks because I use the Layers windows the MOST, and rarely the History & Color Swatches windows.  So every time I bring Photoshop back to open position from "minimized" position, I have to re-adjust my workspace windows.
Adobe recently released a Photoshop update, and I can't believe they didn't fix this.  It happens on both my work computer, and my home computers.
Does anyone else have this problem?
My main question is, DOES ANYONE KNOW IF THIS HAS BEEN FIXED IN PHOTOSHOP CS5?
Coz if CS5 has the same problem, I'm definitely not going to buy the upgrade.
    Thanks!!!

Just to add to the good advice above:  Adobe doesn't need to fix anything because nothing's broken in the general case.  Most people do find that Photoshop DOES remember their palette locations, etc. all the time.  I haven't had Photoshop 'forget" my workspace for many versions now (I think CS was the last time I saw that happen).  You either have some settings wrong or problems with your particular system or you're doing something specific that is causing this.  Are you changing screen resolutions at any time?
Try dragging your palettes off of the "docked" position and see if that helps them stick.
Make sure once you have your workspace set up, and saved as a named workspace, that you close down Photoshop so that it remembers where everything is.  Then restart Photoshop and hopefully it will remember from then on.
Make sure your operating system and video drivers are up to date with the latest updates.

  • How do i disable menu items in Help manu, Photoshop cs6?

How do i disable menu items in Help manu, Photoshop cs6?
    I packaged Photoshop cs6  using AAMEE CS6.
I need to some menu items to disable.
can any one please tell the process of doing , or which registries or files need to edit.
    Appreciate the immediate response.
    thanks in advance.

    Hello8
Given the fact that you speak about AAMEE, it's not clear if you search for an automated and remote way to do it on multiple machines or not.
(and therefore if this thread should be moved to the relevant forum, http://forums.adobe.com/community/download_install_setup/creative_suite_enterprise_deploym ent )
To disable menu items, simply go to Edit>Menus and click on the eyeball next to the menus you do not want.
It is then possible to save it in a workspace that by default will be located there: Documents and Settings/[user name]/Application Data/Adobe/Adobe Photoshop CS6/Adobe Photoshop CS5 Settings/Workspaces (Modified)
I'm not sure if Photoshop will start if the default workspaces are removed, as there is an option to restore them in the preferences.
Also, this is not customer support, but a forum fielded by volunteers that answer when they can, so inviting for an"immediate response" has no bearing; and might even have the opposite effect, but thanks for doing it in a polite and non too demanding way!

  • Export/Import Photoshop preferences, plugins, etc.?

I need to wipe my computer clean and reinstall windows.
re-installing Photoshop is not a big deal, but I have several preferences, plugins, saved layer styles, actions, etc. That I do not want to loose and will not be retained.
Is there a way I can back all this up, and so when i reinstall photoshop its the same as it is now?
I also will want to do this with Dreamweaver, After Effects, and Illustrator.
    Thanks!

    1: Give Them A Home:
First, decide where you’ll be backing up your settings. Be it a folder on your hard drive, a CD/DVD or an offsite storage service. Wherever it is find a consistent place that will be separate up from your main computer should you have a total crash.
    2: Archive your actions:
Photoshop is not a place to store actions. When you download a new action don’t just load it in the actions palette and expect it to stay there. PS will retain the actions so long as the preference to keep it loaded remains. Also deleting an action in PS does not actually delete the file, it just removes it from the action palette. As long as you have your action files safely stored you’re good. But, if you load an action, and then delete the file expecting PS to retain it forever, your doom is sealed.
I like to make a “favorite actions” set that I store with my other actions. This way all my commonly used actions are in one set that I can load fast. I keep it in PS all the time, but it’s backed up should I have a crash. My other actions are nearby as well, but I load them only occasionally since all my favorites are in one set. You can do this by making a new action set (folder) within PS, then drag your favorite actions into it from other sets, then save your favorites set in a safe place.
2: Saving Brushes & More With Preset Manger.
In PS go to Edit/Preset Manager. A window will pop up that contains a dropdown to select your brushes, swatches, gradients, styles, contours, patterns, custom shapes or tools. If you have any custom settings for any of these it’s as simple as going to the manger, selecting what you want to manage and saving the set to your backup location.
    http://www.prophotoshow.net/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/11/file-preset-manager.jpg
    3: Backing Up Keyboard Shortcuts:
Keyboard shortcuts can save a ton of time, and once you set up custom ones you’ll want them to be there.  I for example set CMD+F to flatten since I use it so often. If I get on a machine that does not have the setting, I quickly miss it. All you need do is go to up to the menu and choose Edit/Keyboard Shortcuts. Slick the save icon, and save the current shortcuts in a file. Now you can easily load it on any machine by simply loading the saved file.
    Power User Tricks:
There’s more you can backup than what’s on the surface of PS. Workspaces  for example control the location of your palette’s and menus. Most know that you can save workspace by simply going to Window/Worskpaces. Thing is, there’s not really a built in method of exporting those workspaces for backup. To do this we have to talk about the Power User method.
Outside of Photoshop, go to your application (programs) folder and find Photoshop. We’re using CS3 for this, but it should be similar with other versions. Inside the PS folder look for the Presets folder, and inside that you’ll find stuff like Workspaces, and all kinds of other settings. You can just copy and paste things from here, to your backup and be good to go.
    Photoshop CS4 Notes: (UPDATE)
Most locations are the same in CS4. At the moment it looks like the only differnce if the Workspaces location. Rather than being inside the folder that contains Photoshop it’s found in these locations. Loaction information for other settings in CS4 can be found here.
    Mac… Users/[Username]/Library/Preferences/Adobe Photoshop CS4 Settings/WorkSpaces
    Vista… Users/[Username]/AppData/Roaming/Adobe/Adobe Photoshop CS4/Adobe Photoshop CS4 Settings/Workspaces

  • Photoshop prefs, colorsync monior profiles and multiple users.

How can I make custom application preferences and color settings available to all users when my computer labs are set up on a domain environment and students log in as individual users. Right now Photoshop CS 3 prefs and monitor calibration profiles that were set at the admin level are not accessible to all users. When a user logs on to his or her account/environment none of the prefs (such as Photoshop color settings and prefs) show up in that user account. How can a make such custom settings the default for all users.
    Thanks.

By default, Photoshop CS3 places any calibration files into the active user account. You just need to copy it to a location where everyone can see it.
Login to the user account that has the color settings and preference files you need. Then go to the ~/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Color/Settings/ folder. Copy the settings file to a location where all users can access it. Each user can then navigate to that location to load the settings file from within Photoshop.
If you want all users to have the exact same menu, keyboard and palette layouts, open Photoshop and set up everything to your preferences. Then choose Window > Workspace > Save Workspace. Give it a name and make sure all three check boxes are on. The file is saved in the ~/Library/Preferences/Adobe Photoshop CS3 Settings/WorkSpaces/ folder. This file cannot be accessed globally. It needs to copied into the same folder location of each user account. Once there, it can be loaded within Photoshop.

  • Workspace settings?

How do I make sure Photoshop saves my workspace settings? It seems like everytime I open it back up, it goes back to the default.

Un-maximize (restore) Photoshop so that it is in a Window.  Then close it.  Some things are not remembered properly if Photoshop is maximized when you close it.

  • Essentials workspace missing

PSCS5 64bit, Windows 7, 8 gig, essentials workspace missing, no error messages; it's just not there.  I have the latest patches/updates.  Was there before.  I had been doing some Deke tutorials on Lynda.com changing keyboard shortcuts but I don't know how/if that would affect workspace.  Any ideas?

Missing from the screen?  Hard drive?  Both?
If you're just not seeing the name on the screen, have you tried the Window - Workspace submenu?  Is it missing from there?
This page lists where the files should be:
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/828/cpsid_82893.html
The specific table row in the above page that seems pertinent is:

    Users/[Username]/AppData/Roaming/Adobe/Adobe Photoshop CS5/Adobe Photoshop CS5 Settings/Workspaces
    Users/[Username]/AppData/Roaming/Adobe/Adobe Photoshop CS5/Adobe Photoshop CS5 Settings/Workspaces (Modified)
On my system, in the latter folder I find Essentials (among other workspaces).
