Photoshop CS 8.0 shuts down

I have Photoshop CS 8.0 on Windows ..has worked fine for years recently I tried to open an image and the program completely shuts down and returns me to my desk top. Cant open anything now.. I recently installed Microsoft Excel 2010 ..Is that the problem ???   Whats the problem??? Heeeelp   Dave

If trashing the Prefs does not work for you, I would manually create a System Restore Point (for now), and then boot to Safe Mode, and choose an earlier Restore Point, probably before the installation of the MS program. Test.
When something works one day, but not the next, then something has changed, and the task is to find out what changes occurred.
Good luck,
Hunt
PS - the Prefs reset will very likely get you going.

Without proper system information and other details nobody can tell you anything. If the program shuts down after a while then presumably it fails to verify your activation, so refer to this:

  • Photoshop Elements 12 Editor Shuts Down Without Saving for Web

    Hi
I have a mac version of Photoshop Elements 12 Editor. I have been using the products for a few months with no problems until recently when I try to save for web (after the preview is shown), the program will shut down by itself when I click the "Save" button.
    Mac version OS X 10.9.5

Oh, and while you're in there delete:
    com.adobe.PhotoshopElements.plist
    Adobe Photoshop Elements 12 paths
    Adobe Photoshop Elements 12 settings
There's a saved application states folder at the same level as the Preferences folder. Delete anything in there for PSE.

  • Photoshop CS4 crashes and shuts down without warning.

I have installed the new CS4 upgrade, and I have disabled the GPU. I have just upgraded to 2MB of RAM. However, PSD CS4 will suddenly shut down without warning at unpredictable times - yesterday it happened when I zoomed in past 200% - today it happened when I hit Save For Web. Really annoying. Any ideas?
    Thanks
    Charles

Look in the Photoshop forum. This is for Premiere Pro.

  • Photoshop & Illustrator CS6 randomly shuts down

    Photoshop cs6 32bit
    Illustrator cs6 32bit & 64bit
when I working in these programs randomly shuts down. I don't know why.
I tried remove, install and update. but still randomly shuts down.
    I have 2 computers
    - photoshop
    1. OS : windows 7 pro 32bit
    memory : 4 GB
    VGM : GeForce 330
    - illustrator
    2. OS  : windows 7 pro 64 bit
    memory : 8 GB
    VGM : GeForce 310
    I tried these solutions
    1. removed any special fonts.
    2. removed plug-ins
    3. start -> %appdata% -> roaming -> Adobe -> Adobe photoshop(illustrator) CS6 -> end process all of adobe
    -> renamed Adobe photoshop(illustrator) CS6 settings to Adobe photoshop(illustrator) CS6 settingsold -> restart the CS6

"Random" doesn't exist in the computer world. There's always a specific cause. Find the exact crash info:

  • Photoshop Elements 9 keeps shutting down.

I have created a slide show in PSE 9, but whenever I try and preview it in full-screen mode I get an error that the program is experiencing a problem and it shuts down.  Can anyone suggest a fix?

Make your re-sized jpegs first then start over by adding them to a slideshow. Finally add the transitions and music and re-save.
    File >> Process Multiple Files
Choose your source folder (e.g. the one containing the 200 images)
Create a new folder and select it as the destination.
Under Image Size check the box: resize images then enter 1500 pixels and 1000 pixels into the width and height boxes and set resolution to 72.
If your originals are raw files, PSD or another format, check the box for jpeg conversion and choose high quality.
Then click OK and when PSE finishes go to the new folder.

  • After installing Photoshop, it opens but shuts down when files are opened.

Photoshop installed from CS5. After opening new document or opening an image it closes with a message saying "Adobe CS 5 has stopped working"
It has been uninstalled and re installed several times.

try resetting preferences by holding down shift-ctrl-alt (win) or shift-cmd-alt (mac) while starting ps.  you'll see a confirmation dialog if done correctly.
if that fails uninstall, clean and reinstall per, Use the CC Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems | CC, CS3-CS6

  • After installing Photoshop Elements 10, it shuts down

After the first time this happened, I deleted and then reinstalled Photoshop Elements 10.  But, the problem persists.
After it the program opens and I select Edit, the program opens completely and then, immediately appears an error message from Windows 7, saying that Adobe Photoshop Elements 10 no longer works. I'm asked to click on the button to close the program.
    What should I try next?

Unfortunately, the document you suggested does not cover my situation.  After I have downloaded, installed and registered Photoshop Elements 10, my problem only occurs when I have opened the program, and I’m presented the option to ‘organize’ or ‘edit’.  I click on ‘edit’ and immediately after the program loads and opens, I get a system error message that “Adobe Photoshop Elements 10 no longer is working.” I’m requested to shut the program off.   I do see that my ESET Smart Security 4 software scans for a moment before the error message appears, it that says anything to you.  However, installing Photoshop on my other computer, with the same ESET software, had no problem.

  • Launching Photoshop CS6 shuts down my Mac?

Every time I try to launch Photoshop CS 6 it shuts down my Mac OS X  Version 10.6.8.
I have reloaded Photoshop and reloaded OS X  Version 10.6.8. and nothing helps.
I also ran a hardware test which found no problems.
I made sure their are no extra plugins.  Any one have any idea what is happening?  I need Help!

what routine system maintenance have you performed (Repair Disk, Repair Permissions, Cocktail OSX clear caches)
what specific CS6 version of Photoshop are you running
have you ran all the available Adobe updates
    what is your font situation
i would trash the Photoshop preferences and see if that works -- no, try setting up a New User and test -- still no joy, uninstall CS6, reboot and reinstall CS6 and all Adobe updaters...

  • CC software shuts down after 1/3 of a second - launches entire interface, quits with NO error messae

Can anyone help on the specified problem?
I have wasted hours talking to people on the Adobe chat now.
I signed up for Student Creative Cloud yesterday. Started downloading and installing InDesign and Photoshop. Both programs shut down about 1/3 of a second after launching. The software launches with full interface and then shuts WITHOUT any error message.
I also tried to open InDesign projects that I copied from another computer. It will load them perfectly fine, but directly asks to save them and upon doing so it shuts down.
It this a technical issue? Account issue? Please help - deadlines are coming up.

UPDATE: I also downloaded and installed Muse and Premiere.
Muse works, Premiere, Photoshop and InDesign do not.
There were older CS6 trial versions of Premiere, Photoshop and InDesign installed on this computer. I deleted everything before I installed my subscription software.
Could that be related to something?

  • When is the revel service shutting down?

the photoshop elements page in youtube has a video stating that the revel service with photoshop elements will be shutting down. is this true? when? will elements be added to creative cloud?

It's sad because I love Revel.  I am currently testing out Lightroom Mobile but the aesthetics and interface on Revel are hands down better.  Let's hope the team from Revel are moved over to LR mobile because right now it's ugly.   I started trying Apple's new Photos app yesterday and it's good but Revel still looks better.  I love Revel's Explore feature.

  • Photoshop CS4  shuts down only when creating new project.

I've had CS4 web premium since nov. 08 and everything worked fine until the most recent update from adobe.
I ONLY have this problem with Photoshop cs4: when creating a new project after selecting the aspects (name, width, hight, etc.) when you press ok it shuts down and no error is given as to why it shut down, it just does.
opening documents that had been created prior to the last update isn't a problem, I'm able to do everything Photoshop cs4 has to offer.
I can also open a file started in another program and edit them in PS CS4 (ie: fireworks , or AI).
but for some reason if I want to start a project in photoshop it just shuts down, never used to happen. any clues? any one else have a similar problem and know how to fix this?
    running on windows XP

I think you mean a new docuement - Photoshop doesn't have "projects".
Photoshop shouldn't "shut down" - there should be some message about a crash.
And the most likely causes at that point are OpenGL (try turning it off in prefs) and your default printer driver (try changing default printers).

  • Photoshop 10 shuts down by itself.

When I launch photoshop or Premiere for that matter, everything looks normal. When I move on to open the organizer it opens...for a few seconds, then shut down completely (photoshop that is) I can open the edit secion, but after the shut down, I need to reeboot the PC in order for me to start it again, but only to see the same thing happend again...I changed the setting so photoshop would by default open in the organizer, but since it shuts down, now I can't evenm change back the setting so I can access the edit section, as it shuts down on me before I can blink !  I am running on Windows 7, and it has not previously given me problems. I am afraid to reinstall the whole thing as I am worried I will loose my pictures. Any bright ideas anyone ?

ohh, I am such an idiot whit this. Not sure what you mean. I created a shortcut from the editor (cant find the organizer) and when I open that through the new shortcut, I can select by doubble clicking the organize in the top right corner. The screen answer is "Loading the organizer workspace". hereafter I get a nano second view of the organizer page, but nothing more than that..., second time I double click, it gives me the organizer and then everything from there is normal. If I on the organizer in the editor view only click once, I stil get the brief glimpse of the organizer screen, but second time, I only get the drop down bar whater I click once or twice !!
At least I can work with it now, but I have no idea how this is working, or whats wrong...
I recently added 3 movies to the organizer, that I worked with in premier, incl a few pictures as cover photos that I took of the net. All avbl. in the organizer.

Hello, I have met a problem with Photoshop CS3 (Windows XP SP2, no network printer) - after opening a PSD file with layers (saved with CS2) Photoshop shuts down. No error message.
Can some of you help me? (The only software that I have installed after Creative Suite CS3 is Corel X4. I have installed no upgrades of CS3.)
