PHOTOSHOP CS and iMAC...

Hi Guys
Quick question:
It looks weird that when I check "Get Info" on FINDER to see a PSD file size, it tells me a much smaller file than the actual file is, when I check it on Photoshop...
Most of my 25 MB files are shown 5 MB on FINDER.... WHY???
Can't FINDER really see the size of my PSD files???
Cheers!

Hi... Question(almost)Solved!!!
A very "tricky" issue here... I realized why my personal photos were showing the correct file size while my animation frames weren't...
The mistaken file size happens when I delete the background around the main character using the WAND tool on Photoshop CS (leaving that "chessboard-like" NO background pattern)and resave the file...
As I said before, I scan a 11 x 8 1/2 inches acetate frame, it has a blue background that I select and erase it, leaving only the main character on stage to work with later on FLASH...
If I decide to save the whole frame with the blue background, both PS CS and Finder read the same file size... no matter if I resize it or change the resolution... they both read the same...
...but when I delete the background and save it... Photoshop still reads a huge file, maybe because I didn't crop the image and the stage is still 2000 x 1600 even if the character takes less than 10% of the stage. But Finder sees a MUCH smaller file size in this case...
I think that's it... now i know why and when it happens but I still can't figure out how much space is being used by the file itself...
Cheers!

  • Photoshop CS4 and iMac(ATI 4850) Open GL problem?

Hi: My problem is; when I click full screen mode with menu bar options(Shortcut is F) my workshop background grey area has a colorfull noise and lines(Randomly). My machine and graphic card compatible with Open GL. Anyone know why did happen like that? Buy the way I did all updates. My guess this problem happened after Mac OSX(10.5.7) updates. How can I fix this?
Ps: My machine 2009 iMac 2.93 Ghz with ATI 4850....
    Like that;
    http://i42.tinypic.com/s2yv5y.png

yeah, short term test deems keeping both cards in.
So, here are the results: Notes: I have 2 monitors, an Apple 30" and Apple 23". The 30" can only be used in the dual link dvi port and NOT the Mini Display port. Second: The ATI 4870 seems to have an issue with the Mini Display port, it does not work, alone or in tandem with the dual link dvi port being used. Apple is replacing the card (heretofore, I had no cause to use the Mini Display port on the 4870 at all) Third: Only Photoshop CS4 extended was used to see if the card was detected and if it had enabled Open GL
ATI 4870 - dual link used, Mini Display NOT used: Photoshop sees the card and enables Open GL
ATI 4870 - dual link used, MIni Display used: didn't test because Mini Display port did not work.
ATI 4870 - dual link NOT used, Mini Display used: didn't test because Mini Display port did not work
Nvidia GT120 - dual link used, Mini Display NOT used: Photoshop sees the card and enables Open GL
Nvidia GT120 - dual link used, Mini Display used: Photoshop does not see the card and thus Open GL is NOT enabled.
Nvidia GT120 - dual link NOT used, Mini Display used: Photoshop does see the card and Open GL is enabled

  • Photoshop CS3 and  iMac

Before buying my iMac I used Photoshop CS3 on my PC lap top. Now having bought the iMac which is brilliant I cannot really afford to purchase another copy of Photoshop CS3 at the moment. I have VMFusion on my iMac so is it feasable that I can load my Windows version of CS3 onto the PC side of my iMac through VMFusion. Will it work properly? Also I have 4GB ram on my iMac which automatically allocates 2GB of ram when I am running it in PC mode. Is there anyway of getting more ram allocated to the PC side as 2GB to run CS3 isn't very much.
Many thanks in advance if anyone can answer my question.

There are several things you can try, first is to call Adobe back and see if you can get to someone willing to help, being pleasantly pursistent helps. Don't take a no the first time keep trying, next is after you have exhaused all efforts there is to ask about an upgrade to CS3 for Mac. Yes that will cost some money but at least it keeps you in the OS X enviorment.
Last yes CS3 will work fine on Fusion albeit you still haven't transitioned to OS X. However regarding your original question about memory allocation that I don't know.

  • CS5 photoshop compatibility and iMac upgrades to higher than OS 10.6.8.

CS5 photoshop version 12.0 x64 running ok on iMac OS 10.6.8.  How far can I go upgrading my OS and still be compatible with my version of CS5?

    Gene,
Thank for responding, and the information you provided.  I have not yet made a decision regarding whether to upgrade or not, but it is reassuring to know that I can safely go to 10.9.

  • Which iMac for use with Photoshop CS5 and Lightroom

Any opinions on which iMac is best for use with Photoshop CS5 and Lightroom. Not sure if the 2.7 i5 with 512 graphics card is Plenty of power or if upgrading to the 3.1 i5 or 3.4 i7 is a wiser choice given the price differences. Appreciate the help

So I was reading over your post, and even though this is older and has to do with CS5, I have some information for CS6 that will be relevant to your question now that it is time to upgade the software. In general Photoshop has always been more about RAM than Processing power, though that is important too. Until CS5 it could never quite take advantage of what multi-core processors really had to offer, and even the graphics card didn't really effect much of it outside of certain features and the 3D optio
Now that is no longer true and Adobe can effeciently use all aspects of the computer to give you much better performance.
So much so that I was able to buy a brand New ASUS with the following specs:
    Dual Core 2.2GHz Processors
8GB of RAM (4GB original to the machine)
Windows 7 Home Premium 64Bit OS
    320GB HDD w/ 5400RPM
This machine not only runs photoshop CS6 and Launches in less than 5 Seconds... it can run Premier and After Effects as well, and this Laptop cost me less than $400 (on sale at Best Buy 2 Weeks Ago. You don't have to buy something this cheap, but isn't it great that you can and still run Master Collection effectively?
You can read my details on how to buy a Photoshop CS6 Laptop, what specs you need, comparison between Mac and PC and watch the video of my Photoshop Speed Test by reading this article:

Thanks, I was thinking so. I installed my CS4 from a CD in 2008, and it looks like Adobe has taken another approach to selling their products. I'll be downloading CC Photoshop a little later today.

  • Which Mac should I upgrade to if I am a Photoshop, Illustrator, and Indesign user, with a little iMovie thrown in?

I've been using a 24" iMac (originally purchased in mid-2006) to do graphic design with Adobe Creative Cloud, primarily Photoshop, Indesign, and Illustrator. I am also starting to do some very ametuer video prep (like iMovie) etc. With just Photoshop and Indesign alone, what is the minimum Mac I should upgrade to, if I am still concerned about performance, but budget and mobility could come into play too? For instance would the 13.3" Mac Book Pro with Intel Graphics be sufficient for doing my usual print design, with a little iMovie thrown in? At that price, I could afford a big display to plug into when I am at my office desk.
I like the idea of mobility (which I haven't had before with the big iMac), but don't want to notice a horrible lag in performance if I get a weaker machine. The guy at PeachMac said that when it came to display the Retina (in the Macbook Pro, 13.3 in edition) made a high difference despite the lack of a dedicated graphics processor. I don't do heavy-duty, memory-intensive graphics work but about once every two years anyway, and my iMac only has 2GB of RAM to begin with. I just want to make sure that true designers who have switched from older iMac machines to Macbook Pro's (not the most expensive models) didn't regret it when trying to run Photoshop, et al.
(My absolute budget is "no more than $2,000" which is why I am considering the new iMac vs. the MacBook Pro 13.3" and getting a nice external display.)
    Thanks!

To run the new Studio you need Leopard and it will not spec'd to run on Tiger (Leopard 10.5.6 [specs here|http://www.apple.com/finalcutstudio/specs>) I have run it in Leopard and Snow Leopard, and both seem fairly similar, though I generally like my Leopard machines a bit more. Still breaking in the Snow Leopard and getting various kinks out of it. It seems I have some more little things go wrong in Snow Leopard.
Overall I like the upgrades in the Studio and you may just want to make another boot drive with clean Snow Leopard and the new Studio to work with until you feel you are happy with how it is performing. Bascially that is what I do until I am fully comfortable with the system and always have my rollback plan in place in case something goes awry and I need to get things done....

  • Problems installing Photoshop CS2 on iMac

I have my brand new iMac 20" Intel Core Duo, and I have recently purchased Photoshop CS2 and I can not get it to install. I saw in some places about the SU 2006-003 patch, but I have not installed that. I also saw about VC2 in the startup items, but that is not on my hard drive.
The problem that I am having is that it gets so far into the Running Installer Script and then everything just freezes. I'm not sure what could be wrong.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Todd

    Hi all,
I have had some luck with CS2 and my iMac Intel. But this is only after i spent a week of trouble shooting. A WEEK, on a brand new computer?... this to me is laughable. I am a die-hard Mac user but i have to say i am thouroughly disappointed in my new iMac. After 6 great years on my reliable G4 550Mhz 768RAM i upgraded to an iMac Intel and I just don't see the stability that i used to have with my G4.
Anyway, on the iMac, I did ALL the updates (including the security update and QT 7.1) and was running os x 10.4.6 and when i tried to install CS2, when i got to the second disc, installation froze, computer froze and i had to force a shutdown with the power button. When restarting, the iMac booted to the desktop, but nothing else loaded (no dock, no finder bar at the top, and no desktop icons; mouse didn't function as well) Called AppleCare and ended up having to trash my preferences and trash all that was installed by CS2. Well, that got my iMac working again but was nervous about trying to install CS2 again. Reading somewhere on these boards i came across a thread that mentioned installing Stuffit Expander, saying that some files on the installation discs needed decompression and since stuffit didn't come with OS X 10.4.6 i went ahead and downloaded the free stuffit expander. Heck at that point, i was ready to try anything. After installing stuffit, i tried installing CS2 again and this time the installation did work but seemed to freeze at the end. No message saying installation was succesful, just froze after CS2 finished installing from disc 4. I force restarted with the power button again, but this time the desktop, icons, mouse and dock were working as normal. I was able to run illustrator, photoshop, indesign, golive, bridge and acrobat pro simultaneously, but i wasn't doing any "real" graphics work. I do notice a lag when switching between apps. For example when i switch from illustrator to photoshop, it takes a few seconds for all the tool bars and palettes to load. I should also mention i have 1 gig of RAM. Read somewhere it's better to have 2 gigs, but come on... 2 gigs of RAM just to have functioning software? (another disappointing work around) Not sure if stuffit helped, or just a coincidence. I'm no expert so I'm wondering if anyone else tried that and had success like i did.
I am sorry about this rant, but you figure if you pay so much for a computer, that it should work correctly and that it was tested realistically for bugs. Not with a supercomputer with infinate RAM. I know i bought an apple, but this computer is running like a lemon and to be honest, i'm nervous about installing any updates or additional applications. Being a freelance designer, i don't have the option of pushing back deadlines... and the troubleshooting and time on-hold that i have to waste is crippling my workflow and losing clients for me. Wondering if i would be able to exchange my iMac for a G5 PowerMac with no restocking fees. I have no problem paying the difference in price between the machines but refuse to pay restocking fee for a machine that simply does not cut it.
Well, hope everyone else has luck and let me and the discussions boards know if the stuffit thing is a fix, workaround, or just coincidence and i got lucky installing CS2
    good luck to all

  • Installing Photoshop CS6 and Lightroom 4

I currently have Photoshop CS6 and Lightroom 4 on my MacBook Pro. However I am considering a purchase of an iMac

Yes you can install on up to two computers.  You can find additional details in the End User License Agreement at http://www.adobe.com/products/eulas/#desktop.

  • Photoshop CS and Acrobat 6.0 stopped working in Snow Leopard

Hello.  "Photoshop CS" and "Acrobat 6.0 Standard" suddenly stopped working in my iMac, apparently after I upgraded it to MacOS 10.6.8 (the latest version of Snow Leopard).  Both programs had worked normally until that OS upgrade.  I deleted Photoshop CS and tried to re-install it from the original CD, but the installation never proceeds because I get an error message entitled: "Install Adobe Photoshop CS quit unexpectedly".  This is the full error message:

**  Why can't I re-install Photoshop CS or open Acrobat 6.0 Standard in my MacOS 10.6.8 iMac?  **

    Thank you,

You need to fix your Rosetta emulation. (Re-)install it from your OSX install DVD or download it from Apple.

  • Font Knockout not appearing in Photoshop CS5 on IMac SnowLeop

    Hello all,
I am new to posting here and would really appreciate any help or advice anyone could give.
Recently our Design department upgraded to IMacs and to the Snow Leopard OS. We also bought an Adobe creative Suite including Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign. We have specific fonts we have to use for our publications, Knockout is one in particular. Of the 8 new machines we received and loaded our fonts on to, 2 machines are having the Knockout font family not be available in the font choices in Photoshop CS4, CS5 and Illustrator CS4 and CS5. We received a Adobe suite and use InDesign CS4 and CS5 daily and have no problem using the same Knockout font family with this program.
On all of the machines we loaded the fonts to the following path. Users>User Name> Library> Fonts. So that the fonts would be the same for each user.
We also had to create and alias to place in the Adobe Indesign Fonts folder so that InDesign would use our necessary design fonts. This we read from the Adobe Help and it has.
The Knockout Font Family we use is a PostScript Type 1 outline. KnockHTF26JunFly for example.
We have tried to use the same technique of placing an alias in each programs application folder to no avail, and have tried to search online for any solutions possible. We use FontBook as our font manager which show no conflicts with the Knockout font family with any fonts elsewhere and we are quite stumped why the other fonts we use from the same path work fine and the other 6 IMacs have no issues with the programs not having Knockout available.
Thanks in advance for any help or tips.
    Justin

It would have been easier to put things in the Library->Fonts folder, but it should work where you put it. Can you see the fonts using Font Book? Can you see the fonts using TextEdit?
